RESUMO

In view of the future of our profession it is required urgently to improve the education, continue studies and special training in the field of veterinarian environmental hygiene energetically. At this the both subjects "Animal hygiene" and "Foodstuffs hygiene" combined with the epidemiology are the central nucleus. To make plain the veterinarian engagement in this field it is proposed to introduce, a lecture in ecology and to designate the subject "Animal hygiene" in future as "Environment and animal hygiene".

RESUMO

The content of airborne dust and germs in animal houses is described qualitatively and quantitatively. After having left the animal house by way of the exhaust air the microorganisms suffer a decay which is caused by dispersion and death-rate. The dispersion can be demonstrated by models. The boundary of the dispersion of germs and dust is about 200 m from source under normal conditions. Epidemiologic studies indicate that some virus particles can be transported over several miles by way of the air. Control of airborne dust and germ levels in animal houses is still poor.

RESUMO

Samples of drinking water were taken from different sites of two laying hen battery cage barns at 10 days during four months. The result of the bacteriological investigation showed large differences. Up to 5000 CFU/ml were found in the water of the pressure supply vessel. Samples taken from the nipple drinkers even showed higher numbers. It seems that the heterogeneous results are not primarily caused by the methods used. It is assumed that there are still unknown factors present in the drinking water supply system of laying hen battery cage barns which influence the germ content in the drinking water.
