In this study, the chemical decomposition of a polyimide-film (i.e., a PI-film)-surface into a soft-film-surface containing negatively charged pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and neutral 4,4'-oxydianiline (ODA) was successfully performed. The chemical decomposition was conducted by designing the slurry containing 350 nm colloidal silica abrasive and small molecules with amine functional groups (i.e., ethylenediamine: EDA) for chemical-mechanical planarization (CMP). This chemical decomposition was performed through two types of hydrolysis reactions, that is, a hydrolysis reaction between OH- ions or R-NH3+ (i.e., EDA with a positively charged amine groups) and oxygen atoms covalently bonded with pyromellitimide on the PI-film-surface. In particular, the degree of slurry adsorption of the PI-film-surface was determined by the EDA concentration in the slurry because of the presence of R-NH3+, that is, a higher EDA concentration resulted in a higher degree of slurry adsorption. In addition, during CMP, the chemical decomposition degree of the PI-film-surface was principally determined by the EDA concentration; that is, the degree of chemical composition was increased noticeably and linearly with the EDA concentration. Thus, the polishing-rate of the PI-film-surface increased notably with the EDA concentration in the CMP slurry.

Face-centered-cubic crystallized super-fine (~ 2 nm in size) wet-ceria-abrasives are synthesized using a novel wet precipitation process that comprises a Ce4+ precursor, C3H4N2 catalyst, and NaOH titrant for a synthesized termination process at temperature of at temperature of 25 °C. This process overcomes the limitations of chemical-mechanical-planarization (CMP)-induced scratches from conventional dry ceria abrasives with irregular surfaces or wet ceria abrasives with crystalline facets in nanoscale semiconductor devices. The chemical composition of super-fine wet ceria abrasives depends on the synthesis termination pH, that is, Ce(OH)4 abrasives at a pH of 4.0-5.0 and a mixture of CeO2 and Ce(OH)4 abrasives at a pH of 5.5-6.5. The Ce(OH)4 abrasives demonstrate better abrasive stability in the SiO2-film CMP slurry than the CeO2 abrasives and produce a minimum abrasive zeta potential (~ 12 mV) and a minimum secondary abrasive size (~ 130 nm) at the synthesis termination pH of 5.0. Additionally, the abrasive stability of the SiO2-film CMP slurry that includes super-fine wet ceria abrasives is notably sensitive to the CMP slurry pH; the best abrasive stability (i.e., a minimum secondary abrasive size of ~ 130 nm) is observed at a specific pH (6.0). As a result, a maximum SiO2-film polishing rate (~ 524 nm/min) is achieved at pH 6.0, and the surface is free of stick-and-slip type scratches.

The small abalone, Haliotis diversicolor supertexta, of the family Haliotidae, is one of the most important species of marine shellfish in eastern Asia. Over the past few decades, this species has drastically declined in Korea. Thus, hatchery-bred seeds have been released into natural coastal areas to compensate for the reduced fishery resources. However, information on the genetic background of the small abalone is scarce. In this study, 20 polymorphic microsatellite DNA markers were identified using next-generation sequencing techniques and used to compare allelic variation between wild and released abalone populations in Korea. Using high-throughput genomic sequencing, a total of 1516 (2.26%; average length of 385 bp) reads containing simple sequence repeats were obtained from 86,011 raw reads. Among the 99 loci screened, 28 amplified successfully, and 20 were polymorphic. When comparing allelic variation between wild and released abalone populations, a total of 243 different alleles were observed, with 18.7 alleles per locus. High genetic diversity (mean heterozygosity = 0.81; mean allelic number = 15.5) was observed in both populations. A statistical analysis of the fixation index (F(ST)) and analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) indicated limited genetic differences between the two populations (F(ST) = 0.002, p > 0.05). Although no significant reductions in the genetic diversity were found in the released population compared with the wild population (p > 0.05), the genetic diversity parameters revealed that the seeds released for stock abundance had a different genetic composition. These differences are likely a result of hatchery selection and inbreeding. Additionally, all the primer pair sets were effectively amplified in another congeneric species, H. diversicolor diversicolor, indicating that these primers are useful for both abalone species. These microsatellite loci may be valuable for future aquaculture and population genetic studies aimed at developing conservation and management plans for these two abalone species.

BACKGROUND: The objective of the present study was to describe the relative frequency of myocardial bridging and dynamic compression of the coronary arteries as assessed by CT angiography and conventional angiography. METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 311 patients (208 men, 103 women; mean age 63 years) who received both 64-section CT angiography and conventional angiography were reviewed retrospectively for myocardial bridging of the left anterior descending coronary artery. Myocardial bridging was considered when the left anterior descending coronary artery was within the interventricular gorge and was classified as either myocardial bridging with partial encasement or myocardial bridging with full encasement, according to the extent of vessel encasement by the myocardium. The length, location, and depth of myocardial bridging were correlated with the presence, length, and degree of dynamic compression observed at conventional angiography. Among the 300 patients studied (11 were excluded), myocardial bridging was observed at CT angiography in 174 (58%) as partial encasement (n=57) or full encasement (n=117). Conventional angiography revealed dynamic compression in 40 patients (13.3%; partial encasement in 1 patient and full encasement in 39). The length of the dynamic compression was considerably longer than the respective tunneled segment in all patients. Total length correlated (P=0.003) with the dynamic compression, but depth did not (P=0.283). CONCLUSIONS: The frequency of myocardial bridging observed by CT angiography was 58%, and conventional angiography revealed dynamic compression in 13.3% of total patients. Dynamic compression occurred almost exclusively (97.5% of the time) in patients with full encasement of the left anterior descending coronary artery, regardless of the presence of overlying muscle.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of our study was to evaluate whether the SD of CT attenuation values obtained from unenhanced scans of the left atrium is a reliable parameter for the individual modulation of tube current to achieve uniform image quality in coronary CT angiography (CTA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred patients (59 men and 41 women) who were suspected to have coronary artery disease underwent coronary CTA using a 64-MDCT scanner. In addition to clinical studies, we also performed measurements on water phantoms. Tube current was modulated by the SD of the CT attenuation values measured from the left atrium on unenhanced images scanned at 300 mA. A modulation table was created from data obtained from the studies of water phantoms scanned at various tube currents. Other scanning parameters were identical to those used to obtain unenhanced and contrast-enhanced studies of the 100 patients. The SD values were measured from images scanned at an adjusted tube current, and the images of normal coronary and internal mammary arteries were graded. Radiation doses measured using the volume CT dose index (CTDI(vol)) were compared between the SD of the CT attenuation values and the modulation parameters suggested by the manufacturer of the scanner. RESULTS: Image quality was rated as grade 3 (low mottle) on a 4-grade scale by four observers for 92-94 of the 100 patients (average, 92.5%). The mean SD value at an adjusted tube current was 12.1 H with an SD of 0.758 H (target SD = 12 H). A radiation dose reduction of 9-45% was achieved in patients grouped by weight who weighed less than 70 kg, and a reduction of up to 71% was seen in individual cases. CONCLUSION: Modulating tube current using the SD of CT attenuation values from the left atrium is a highly reliable method of achieving uniform image quality in coronary CTA.
