RESUMO

Albumin and prealbumin serve as vital markers reflecting hepatic synthesis activity and overall body nutrient status. Hypoproteinemia can result from various etiological factors, with reduced blood inflow into the liver due to portal vein thrombosis being one such cause. However, literature addressing this specific association remains limited. This report presents an atypical case of malnutrition involving a patient who experienced prolonged hypoproteinemia attributable to a gradual decline in hepatic blood perfusion caused by progressive portal thrombosis and cavernous transformation of the portal vein (CTPV). The case encompasses an in-depth analysis of the factors contributing to undernutrition, the etiology and diagnosis of hypoproteinemia, and its clinical implications. Vigilance for the presence of hypoproteinemia is essential in the management of patients afflicted by progressive portal vein thrombosis complicated by CTPV. Timely and effective interventions aimed at rectifying hypoproteinemia can significantly enhance clinical outcomes. Moreover, reduced hepatic blood flow should be considered a plausible underlying cause in cases of unexplained hypoproteinemia, warranting thorough evaluation. This case underscores the importance of recognizing the intricate interplay between hepatic vascular pathology and protein homeostasis in clinical practice.

RESUMO

Supervised learning algorithms are a recent trend for the prediction of mechanical properties of concrete. This paper presents AdaBoost, random forest (RF), and decision tree (DT) models for predicting the compressive strength of concrete at high temperature, based on the experimental data of 207 tests. The cement content, water, fine and coarse aggregates, silica fume, nano silica, fly ash, super plasticizer, and temperature were used as inputs for the models' development. The performance of the AdaBoost, RF, and DT models are assessed using statistical indices, including the coefficient of determination (R2), root mean squared error-observations standard deviation ratio (RSR), mean absolute percentage error, and relative root mean square error. The applications of the above-mentioned approach for predicting the compressive strength of concrete at high temperature are compared with each other, and also to the artificial neural network and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system models described in the literature, to demonstrate the suitability of using the supervised learning methods for modeling to predict the compressive strength at high temperature. The results indicated a strong correlation between experimental and predicted values, with R2 above 0.9 and RSR lower than 0.5 during the learning and testing phases for the AdaBoost model. Moreover, the cement content in the mix was revealed as the most sensitive parameter by sensitivity analysis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of conjugated trienoic fatty acids on the growth inhibition, apoptosis in rat glioblastoma cells and to elucidate its mechanism of activity. METHODS: Rat glioblastoma cells were tested in vitro cytotoxicity, colony formation inhibition, Brdu incorporation after treatment with TCLA. Its effect of apoptosis induction was detected through Hoechst 33342 staining, cell cycle analysis. The expressions of ADPRTL1, CYP1A1 and PPAR-gamma genes were detected through RT-PCR. RESULTS: After TCLA treatment, the proliferation of C6 cells were inhibited (40 micrommol/L, 72 h, viability 56.71% +/- 0.98%), this action acted as dose-time-dependent relations; colony formation decreased significantly (40 micrommol/L, 0) and BrdU labeling index of cancer cells decreased (63.1% +/- 1.0% vs 95.6 % +/- 1.4%); apoptotic cells increased; By FCM analysis, the apoptotic indices increased, the cells increased in G0/G1 phase, decreased in S phase, which have signigicant difference; RT-RCR showed that TCLA signigicantly increased the level of ADPRTL1, CYP1A1, and PPAR-gamma mRNA expression. CONCLUSION: The findings in this experimental study suggested that TCLA has potent cytotoxicity and induction apoptosis in human and rat glioblastoma cells, its mechanism of activity might be associated with the inhibition of DNA synthesis, cell cycle arrest, up-regulation the expression of apoptosis related genes ADPRTL, CYP1A1, PPAR-gamma.
