RESUMO

Glucose holds significant importance in disease diagnosis as well as beverage quality monitoring. The high-efficiency electrochemical sensor plays a crucial role in the electrochemical conversion technology. Ni(OH)2 nanosheets are provided with high specific surface area and redox activity that are widely used in electrochemistry. Conductive metal-organic frameworks (cMOFs) perfectly combine the structural controllability of organic materials with the long-range ordering of inorganic materials that possess the characteristic of high electron mobility. Based on the above considerations, the combination of Ni(OH)2 and Ni-HHTP (HHTP=2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene) as an electrode modification material is designed to enhance electrochemical performance. In this work, to improve glucose detection, a sequence of Ni(OH)2@NiCo-HHTP and NiM-LDH@Ni-HHTP (M=Co2+, Mn2+, Cu2+, LDH=layered double hydroxide) are successfully synthesised by doping metals into Ni-HHTP and Ni(OH)2, respectively. As a result, NiCu-LDH@Ni-HHTP showed the best excellent glucose detection sensitivity.

The design and synthesis of efficient electrochemical sensors are crucial transformation technologies in electrochemistry. We successfully synthesize a three-dimensional Ni-metal-organic framework (MOF) nanostructured material with a superior architecture using benzimidazole and nickel nitrate as precursors at room temperature which is being applied in glucose electrochemical sensors. The reaction mechanism of M-6 during glucose detection is thoroughly studied using various characterization techniques, such as in situ Raman spectroscopy, in situ ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry, synchrotron radiography, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The research findings demonstrate that the M-6 material exhibits high sensitivity for glucose detection, with a sensitivity of 2199.88 mA M-1 cm-2. This study provides an important reference for designing more efficient electrochemical reaction systems and optimizing material performance. Furthermore, the superstructural design offers new ideas and possibilities for the development and application of similar materials.

Vanadium oxides have aroused attention as cathode materials in aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) due to their low cost and high safety. However, low ion diffusion and vanadium dissolution often lead to capacity decay and deteriorating stability during cycling. Herein, vanadium dioxides (VO2 ) nanobelts are coated with a single-atom cobalt dispersed N-doped carbon (Co-N-C) layer via a facile calcination strategy to form Co-N-C layer coated VO2 nanobelts (VO2 @Co-N-C NBs) for cathodes in AZIBs. Various in-/ex situ characterizations demonstrate the interfaces between VO2 layers and Co-N-C layers can protect the VO2 NBs from collapsing, increase ion diffusion, and enhance the Zn2+ storage performance. Additional density functional theory (DFT) simulations demonstrate that Co─O─V bonds between VO2 and Co-N-C layers can enhance interfacial Zn2+ storage. Moreover, the VO2 @Co-N-C NBs provided an ultrahigh capacity (418.7 mAh g-1 at 1 A g-1 ), outstanding long-term stability (over 8000 cycles at 20 A g-1 ), and superior rate performance.

The integration of electronic effects into complexes for the construction of novel materials has not yet attracted significant attention in the field of energy storage. In the current study, eight one-dimensional (1D) nickel-based salicylic acid  complexes (Ni-XSAs, X = pH, pMe, pMeO, mMe, pBr, pCl, pF, and pCF3 ), are prepared by ligand engineering. The coordination environments in the Ni-XSAs are explored using X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy. The charge transfer of the complexes is modulated according to the difference in the electron-donating ability of the substituents, in combination with frontier orbital theory. Furthermore, density functional theory is used to investigate the effect of the substituent position on the electronic properties of the complexes. Ni-mMeSA exhibits better electrical conductivity than Ni-pMeSA. The electrochemical performance of Ni-mMeSA as an aqueous battery cathode is remarkably improved with a maximum energy density of 0.30 mWh cm-2 (125 Wh kg-1 ) and a peak power density of 33.72 mW cm-2 (14.03 kW kg-1 ). This study provides ideas for the application of new coordination chemistry in the field of energy materials science.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine the clinical capability of township healthcare centres (THCs), the main primary care providers in rural China, as a basis for rural health service planning. DESIGN: Observational study of quantitative analysis using administrative data. SETTING: Three counties with low, middle and high social economic development level, respectively, in Sichuan province western China. PARTICIPANTS: 9 THCs and 6 county hospitals (CHs) were purposively selected in the three counties. Summary of electronic medical records of 31 633 admissions from 1 January 2015 to 30 December 2015 of these selected health institutions was obtained from the Health Information Centre of Sichuan province. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Six indicators in scope of inpatient services related to diseases and surgeries in the THCs as proxy of clinical capability, were compared against national standard of capability building of THCs, among counties, and between THCs and CHs of each county. RESULTS: The clinical capability of THCs was suboptimal against the national standard, though that of the middle-developed county was better than that in the rich and the poor counties. THCs mainly provided services of infectious or inflammatory diseases, of respiratory and digestive systems, but lacked clinical services related to injuries, poisoning, pregnancy, childbirth and surgeries. A large proportion of the top 20 diseases of inpatients were potentially avoidable hospitalisations (PAHs) and were overlapped between THCs and CHs. CONCLUSIONS: The clinical capability of THCs was generally suboptimal against national standard. It may be affected by the economics, population size, facilities, workforce and the share of services of THCs in local health systems. Identification of absent services and PAHs may help to identify development priorities of local THCs. Clarification of the roles of THCs and CHs in the tiered rural health system in China is warranted to develop a better integrated health system.

Background: Meteorological factors can affect the emergence of scrub typhus for a period lasting days to weeks after their occurrence. Furthermore, the relationship between meteorological factors and scrub typhus is complicated because of lagged and non-linear patterns. Investigating the lagged correlation patterns between meteorological variables and scrub typhus may promote an understanding of this association and be beneficial for preventing disease outbreaks. Methods: We extracted data on scrub typhus cases in rural areas of Panzhihua in Southwest China every week from 2008 to 2017 from the China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention. The distributed lag non-linear model (DLNM) was used to study the temporal lagged correlation between weekly meteorological factors and weekly scrub typhus. Results: There were obvious lagged associations between some weather factors (rainfall, relative humidity, and air temperature) and scrub typhus with the same overall effect trend, an inverse-U shape; moreover, different meteorological factors had different significant delayed contributions compared with reference values in many cases. In addition, at the same lag time, the relative risk increased with the increase of exposure level for all weather variables when presenting a positive association. Conclusions: The results found that different meteorological factors have different patterns and magnitudes for the lagged correlation between weather factors and scrub typhus. The lag shape and association for meteorological information is applicable for developing an early warning system for scrub typhus.

BACKGROUND: The Child Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (Child HCAHPS) is a standard instrument to measure pediatric inpatients' experience of care. Currently, no Chinese version of the Child HCAHPS exists for Chinese patients. Therefore, this study aimed to create a Chinese version of the Child HCAHPS and investigate its validity and reliability in a Chinese setting. METHODS: Using the approach recommended in guidelines from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality for translating HCAHPS surveys, we produced a Chinese version of the Child HCAHPS. A two-month field test with seven hospitals across five provinces in China was performed to assess its validity. Construct validity was assessed using confirmatory factor analysis. We evaluated convergent validity by factor loading, average variance extracted (AVE), and construct reliability (CR). Cronbach's alpha and corrected item-total correlation (CITC) were used to reflect hospital-level unit reliabilities for the survey's item composites. The correlation of the measure score with the overall rating was calculated to evaluate criterion validity. RESULTS: An overall response rate of 63% was achieved, and 2,258 respondents completed the questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis showed a comparative fit index (CFI) of 0.905, a non-normed fix index of 0.886, and a root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) of 0.089. Most items had factor loadings over 0.7. Cronbach's alpha coefficient on the overall level was 0.981, and all measures' CITC exceeded 0.6, demonstrating good to excellent hospital-level reliability of the composite and single-item measures. All composite measures had good to excellent internal consistency reliability (0.716 to 0.994). Item-to-composite correlation ranged from 0.510 to 0.997. Composite-to-composite correlations ranged from 0.488 to 0.997. According to the survey result, for all the 18 composite or single-item measures, mean top-box scores ranged from 56% ("Involving teens in care") to 87% ("Informed in Emergency Room"). CONCLUSIONS: The Chinese version of the Child HCAHPS demonstrated acceptable validity and reliability. The application of this tool can help benchmark ongoing healthcare improvement initiatives in China.

The present study attempted to analyse human papillomavirus (HPV) genotype distribution and its association with cervical cytology results in women in western China. The present retrospective analysis was performed in 1089 female outpatients with a positive HPV test result who had undergone a cervical cytology test at the gynaecological clinic, West China Second Hospital, Sichuan University, China, between January 2014 and December 2016. Of the 1089 patients with HPV infection, multiple HPV genotypes were detected in 220 patients (20.20%). Among the 1368 HPV genotypes detected, 1145 (83.70%) were high-risk subtypes. The most common genotypes were HPV-52 (18.64%), HPV-16 (16.59%), HPV-58 (13.23%), HPV-18 (6.80%), HPV-56 (5.56%) and HPV-59 (5.56%). Cervical cytology revealed abnormal cells in 430 (39.49%) patients. The most common diagnoses were atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US; 236 cases, 54.88%), low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL; 151 cases, 35.12%), high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL; 63 cases, 14.65%) and atypical glandular cells (AGC; 21 cases, 4.88%). HPV-66 was significantly associated (P = 0.037) with ASC; HPV-52 and HPV-56 were significantly associated with LSIL (P = 0.009 and 0.026, respectively); HPV-16 (P < 0.001), HPV-33 (P = 0.014) and HPV-58 (P = 0.003) were significantly associated with HSIL; and HPV-16 (P = 0.005) was significantly associated with AGC. HPV-16, HPV-52 and HPV-58 are associated with different diagnoses in patients with positive cervical cytological findings.

BACKGROUND: Chronic venous disease is a debilitating condition involving great saphenous vein (GSV) incompetence. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy and effectiveness of cyanoacrylate embolization (CAE) versus radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in patients with incompetent GSVs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane library were searched. The primary outcomes were the Venous Clinical Severity Score (VCSS), Aberdeen Varicose Vein Questionnaire (AVVQ), closure rate, and visual analog scale (VAS) for pain. RESULTS: This meta-analysis included 378 and 590 patients who underwent CAE and RFA, respectively. Cyanoacrylate embolization was comparable with RFA in VCSS (weighted mean difference [WMD] = -0.03, 95% confidence interval [CI]: -0.18 to 0.12, p = .686), AVVQ (WMD = -0.08, 95% CI: -0.38 to 0.21, p = .570), closure rate (odds ratio [OR] = 0.61, 95% CI: 0.18-2.01, p = .414), and VAS (standardized mean difference [SMD] = 0.24, 95% CI: -0.59 to 1.06, p = .523). There were no significant differences between CAE and RFA regarding the occurrence of phlebitis (OR = 1.22, 95% CI: 0.70-2.13, p = .479) and pigmentation (OR = 0.48, 95% CI: 0.18-1.31, p = .153), but CAE had a lower risk of ecchymosis (OR = 0.45, 95% CI: 0.25-0.81, p = .007) and paresthesia (OR = 0.16, 95% CI: 0.03-0.99, p = .049). CONCLUSION: Cyanoacrylate embolization and RFA demonstrated no significant differences in VCSS, AVVQ, closure rate, and pain score for patients with incompetent GSVs. Patients in the CAE group had a lower risk of ecchymosis and paresthesia compared with the RFA group.

Tuberculosis (TB) an infectious disease with very high mortality claims approximately 1.5 million lives and infects 2 billion people annually. The present study evaluated anti-tuberculosis activity of benzo(c)thiophene-1,3-dione against Mycobacterial tuberculosis H37RV in vitro and in vivo in tuberculosis mice model. The MIC of benzo(c)thiophene-1,3-dione, rifampicin and isoniazid were found to be 4.0, 2.0 and 1.0 µg/ml, respectively. Benzo(c)thiophene-1,3-dione showed MIC in the range of 8-14 µg/ml against four drug-resistant isolates of M. tuberculosis and MBC 14 µg/ml against M. tuberculosis H37RV. Interaction of benzo(c)thiophene-1,3-dione with rifampicin led to 2-fold increase in anti-TB activity whereas with isoniazid improvement showed 4-fold enhancement. Fractional inhibitor concentration index suggested additive interaction with rifampicin and synergism with isoniazid. Treatment with benzo(c)thiophene-1,3-dione at 1X MIC indicated bacteriostatic activity whereas at 2X, 4X and 4X MIC doses significant reduction in M. tuberculosis load was observed. The benzo(c)thiophene-1,3-dione administration to mice at doses of 5000 and 1000 mg/kg caused no changes in behaviour nor any death. Benzo(c)thiophene-1,3-dione treatment of tuberculosis mice model effectively inhibited pulmonary CFU compared to model group. Data obtained from MTT assay showed negligible cytotoxicity of benzo(c)thiophene-1,3-dione against CMMT, MB 157, CL-S1, normal breast cells in 5-320 µg/ml concentration range. Thus, benzo(c)thiophene-1,3-dione exhibits promising anti-mycobacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37RV and other drug resistant strains. In Mycobacterium tuberculosis mice model benzo(c)thiophene-1,3-dione significantly suppressed bacterial load and showed synergism with isoniazid. Therefore, benzo(c)thiophene-1,3-dione has potential to be evaluated further for development of anti-tuberculosis treatment.

Whispering gallery mode (WGM) microresonators have been used as optical sensors in fundamental research and practical applications. The majority of WGM sensors are passive resonators that require complex systems, thereby limiting their practicality. Active resonators enable the remote excitation and collection of WGM-modulated fluorescence spectra, without requiring complex systems, and can be used as alternatives to passive microresonators. This paper demonstrates an active microresonator, which is a microdisk laser in a hyperboloid-drum (HD) shape. The HD microdisk lasers are a combination of a rhodamine B-doped photoresist and a silica microdisk. These HD microdisk lasers can be utilized for the detection of label-free biomolecules. The biomolecule concentration can be as low as 1 ag mL-1 , whereas the theoretical detection limit of the biosensor for human IgG in phosphate buffer saline is 9 ag mL-1 (0.06 aM ). Additionally, the biosensors are able to detect biomolecules in an artificial serum, with a theoretical detection limit of 9 ag mL-1 (0.06 aM ). These results are approximately four orders of magnitude more sensitive than those for the typical active WGM biosensors. The proposed HD microdisk laser biosensors show enormous detection potential for biomarkers in protein secretions or body fluids.

OBJECTIVES: Asymptomatic infection of SARS-CoV-2 has become a concern worldwide. This study aims to compare the epidemiology and the clinical characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 infection in asymptomatic and symptomatic individuals. METHODS: A total of 511 confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection cases, including 100 asymptomatic (by the time of the pathogenic tests) and 411 symptomatic individuals were consecutively enrolled from January 25 to February 20, 2020 from hospitals in 21 cities and 47 counties or districts in Sichuan Province. Epidemiological and clinical characteristics were compared. RESULTS: Compared to the symptomatic patients, the asymptomatic cases were younger (P < 0.001), had similar co-morbidity percentages (P = 0.609), and came from higher altitude areas with lower population mobility (P < 0.001) with better defined epidemiological history (P < 0.001). 27.4% of well-documented asymptomatic cases developed delayed symptoms after the pathogenic diagnosis. 60% of asymptomatic cases demonstrated findings of pneumonia on the initial chest CT, including well-recognized features of coronavirus disease-19. None of the asymptomatic individuals died. Two elderly individuals with initially asymptomatic infection developed severe symptoms during hospitalization. One case of possible virus transmission by a patient during the incubation period was highly suspected. CONCLUSIONS: The epidemiological and clinical findings highlight the significance of asymptomatic infection with SARS-CoV-2. Inspecting the epidemiological history would facilitate the identification of asymptomatic cases. Evidence supports the chest CT scans for confirmed asymptomatic cases to evaluate the extent of lung involvement.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer cell function is influence by ER. Therefore, in this study, ER stress senser-ATF6, was selected for detailed research in cervical cancer. METHODS: ATF6 mRNA was assessed through RT-qPCR assays. Cell transfection was to regulate ATF6 and thereafter the differential ATF6 cancer cells were divided into two groups for further functional assays. Cell viabilities were analyzed by CCK-8 and migration by Scratch. RT-qPCR examined cell death biomarkers Caspas-3 and Bcl-2. 4-PBA was utilized to inhibit ER stress. After that, ATF6, viability, migration and apoptotic proteins were scrutinized after ER inhibition. Proteins signifying EMT, autophagy and MAPK signaling pathway were checked by western bolt. Last, we inactivated the MAPK signaling to investigate into the changes in cell functions. RESULTS: ATF6 presented higher expression in cervical cancer cells. Inhibited ATF6 could reduce cell viabilities and migration but promote apoptosis through suppressing Bcl-2 and increasing caspase-3. ER stress antagonist witnessed a drop in ATF6 expression, cell viability, migration and Bcl-2 but a rise in caspase-3 activation, suggesting apoptosis increase. Cell autophagy was hindered in CC cells. Knockdown of ATF6 promoted autophagy and restrained EMT and MAPK signaling pathway. Suppressed ERK1/2 obstructed cell viabilities, migration, EMT and autophagy but promoted apoptosis. CONCLUSION: ATF6 might promote cell growth, migration, autophagy through ER stress and MAPK signaling in cervical cancer in vitro, indicating a potential regulatory gene in cervical cancer. However, in-depth researches are requested to enrich the knowledge of ATF6 in cervical cancer in vivo and in clinical in the future.

We present the spectral modulation of an optofluidic microdisk device and investigate the mechanism and characteristics of the microdisk laser in aqueous media. The optofluidic microdisk device combines a solid-state dye-doped polymer microdisk with a microfluidic channel device, whose optical field can interact with the aqueous media. Interesting phenomena, such as mode splitting and single-mode lasing in the laser spectrum, can be observed in two coupled microdisks under the pump laser. We modulated the spectra by changing the gap of the two coupled microdisks, the refractive indices of the aqueous media, and the position of a pump light, namely, selective pumping schemes. This optofluidic microlaser provides a method to modulate the laser spectra precisely and flexibly, which will help to further understand spectral properties of coupled microcavity laser systems and develop potential applications in photobiology and photomedicine.

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of treatments for Kashin-Beck disease (KBD). METHOD: We searched PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Embase, Web of Science, SinoMed, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, reference lists and published systematic reviews and registries of ongoing trials through May 2015 for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of treatments for KBD. Outcomes of interest were pain, function, stiffness, overall clinical improvement, radiographic improvement (X-ray) and adverse events. Frequentist network meta-analyses were conducted using random-effects consistency model to assess the efficacy of treatments for KBD. RESULTS: Forty-four RCTs with 9815 participants were included in the review. In children or adolescents, selenium (risk ratio 1.88, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.51-2.33), vitamin C (2.03, 1.40-2.95) and aspirin (2.14, 1.12-4.08) were effective for radiographic structure improvement. In adults, chondroitin plus glucosamine was the best for pain (standardised mean difference 1.46, 95% CI 1.07-1.85), followed by intra-articular injection of hyaluronic acid (IAH) (1.09, 0.70-1.48), chondroitin (0.84, 0.47-1.21), diclofenac (0.63, 1.18-1.08), naproxen (0.55, 0.12-0.98), meloxicam (0.52, 0.03-1.01) and glucosamine (0.40, 0.13-0.67) compared to placebo, with similar results for other clinical outcomes in adults. However, the strength of most evidence was limited by the small number of trials with low to moderate quality. CONCLUSIONS: Selenium supplement has demonstrated some benefits for structural improvement of the disease in children. Chondroitin, glucosamine, IAH and nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs are effective for symptom improvements of KBD in adults. Evidence of surgical and complementary treatments for symptoms and aspirin and vitamin C for structure has yet to be established.Key Points• There were 23 nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals and surgical and complementary treatments assessed for Kashin-Beck disease (KBD) in randomised trials.• Among the 23 treatments, chondroitin, glucosamine, IAH and non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs are more effective than placebo to relieve symptoms for adults with KBD.• Selenium supplement is more effective than placebo for radiographic improvement in children or adolescents.• The efficacy of surgeries, aspirin, vitamin C and complementary treatments for KBD has not been established yet.

We report on a novel optical microcavity sensing scheme by using the orthogonal demodulation Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) technique. We found that larger sensitivity in a broad range of cavity quality factor (Q) could be obtained. Taking microbubble resonator (MBR) pressure sensing as an example, a lower detection limit than the conventional wavelength shift detection method was achieved. When the MBR cavity Q is about 105-106, the technique can decrease the detection limit by one or two orders of magnitude. The pressure-frequency sensitivity is 11.6 GHz/bar at wavelength of 850 nm, and its detection limit can approach 0.0515 mbar. This technique can also be applied to other kinds of microcavity sensors to improve sensing performance.

Background: The southeastern coastal area of China has a high prevalence of HTLV-1 infection among blood donors. However, the estimation of HTLV-1 prevalence on a national and regional level is little known. The aim of this study is to understand and explore the estimation of HTLV-1 infection prevalence among blood donors on a national and regional level in mainland China by using a systematic review and meta-analysis. Study design and methods: All relevant publications of the past two decades (1998-2017), which were reported in both English and Chinese languages, were adopted and systematically assessed. The estimation of prevalence and its 95% confidence interval (CI) at the level of provinces/municipalities and overall were estimated using meta-analysis method. Results: From the 327 studies searched, 60 met the inclusion criteria. These were from 18 provinces and four municipalities and included 1,420,079 blood donors. The overall estimation of the HTLV-1 prevalence in blood donors was 0.169‰, and its 95% CI was 0.121‰-0.240‰. Conclusion: A disproportionate distribution of HTLV-1 infection among blood donors in different provinces/municipalities regarding its prevalence has been reported. This study recommends developing appropriate HTLV-1 screening strategies of blood donors in various regions of China considering regional prevalence, and cost-effectiveness.

Discotic mesogens P/n-M (n=12, 16, 18, M=2 H, Zn and Cu) bearing a porphyrin core, triazole linkages and peripheral 3,4,5-trialkoxybenzyl units have been synthesized by a click-chemistry approach. The thermal behavior, photophysical properties and morphologies of these compounds were investigated by polarized optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), XRD, UV and PL, SEM and TEM. These compounds can self-assemble into hexagonal columnar phases in their pure states and form organogels in 1,4-dioxane with unusually flower-like sphere morphology. The supramolecular complexes of P/18-Zn with C70 or 4,7-di-4-pydriyl-2,1,3-benzothadiazole can display hexagonal columnar phases too. Additionally, zinc porphyrin compounds P/n-Zn show binding selectivity to Cu2+ among a series of cations in THF/H2 O.

The long capillary and shear-cell techniques are traditionally used for diffusion measurements in liquid metals. Inspired by the idea of the shear-cell method, we have built a multi-slice sliding cell device for inter-diffusion measurements in liquid metals. The device is designed based on a linear sliding movement rather than a rotational shearing as used in the traditional shear-cell method. Compared with the normal shear-cell method, the present device is a more compact setup thus easier to handle. Also, it is expected to be easier to monitor with X-rays or neutrons if used in in situ experiments. A series of benchmark time-dependent diffusion experiments in Al-Cu melts carried out with the present technique reveal that accurate diffusion constants can be achieved only after a sufficient time. For short annealing times, the initial shearing process causing convective flow dominates the measurement and leads to an increase of the measured diffusion coefficient by a factor three. The diffusion data obtained for Al-Cu liquids are consistent with the most accurate data measured by the in situ X-ray radiography method under well controlled conditions of no temperature gradient or other perturbation. High accuracy and easy handling as well as superior adaptability make the present technique suitable for diffusion studies in liquid metals.

PURPOSE: To conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the association of the human8-oxoguanine glycosylase 1 (hOGG1) gene polymorphism rs1052133 with gastric cancer (GC) through a systematic review and meta-analysis of genetic association study. RESULTS: A total of 15 articles from published papers were included in our analysis. The meta-analyses for hOGG1 rs1052133, composed of 4024GC patients and 6022controls, showed low heterogeneity for the included populations in all the genetic models, except for the Caucasian population under allelic genetic model, the Asian population under addictive model and Caucasian population under dominant model. The analyses of all the genetic models in overall pooled populations did not identify any significant association between GC and hOGG1 rs1052133 (Allelic model: C vs. G , p = 0.746; Addictive model: CC vs. GG, p = 0.888; Recessive model: CC +GC vs. GG, p = 0.628; Dominant model: CC vs. GG+GC, p = 0.147), even though stratified analyses were conducted in different ethnicities under each genetic model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: All case-control association studies on hOGG1 and GC reported up to December 15, 2016 in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Chinese Biomedical Database were retrieved. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated for single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) using fixed- and random- effects models according to between-study heterogeneity. Publication bias analyses were conducted using Begg test. CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis showed there was no association between hOGG1 rs1052133 and GC. Given the limited sample size, further investigations including more ethnic groups are required to validate the association.
