RESUMO

Nuclear-absorption spectrometry was used to measure concentration of some metals in cerebrospinal liquid (CSL) of 70 patients with bacterial meningoencephalitis and in different brain compartments of 10 dead patients. Estimation of the difference between dry and wet tissue mass provided the picture of watering for different brain parts. A correlation analysis demonstrated a quantitative relationship between metals and water in different brain compartments. Quantitative determination of CSL metals (potassium, sodium, magnesium, manganese, copper, zinc) enables diagnosis of brain swelling and prognosis of the inflammation outcome.

RESUMO

Nuclear absorption spectrometry was used to quantify concentrations of some metals in the liquor from 70 patients with bacterial meningoencephalitis and in different portions of the brain in 10 deceased patients. By calculation of the difference between dry and wet tissue mass after its drying the authors assessed watering of the brain compartments. The correlation analysis demonstrated a relationship between content of metals and later in the brain. Determination of metal (K, Na, Mg, Cu, Zn, Mn) concentrations in the liquor correlating with water content in the brain followed by calculation of the diagnostic coefficients is indicative of the brain edema and swelling degree that helps prognosticate the outcome of the inflammation.

RESUMO

Two cases of cerebral aneurysm rupture with repeat subarachnoidal haemorrhage are reported in patients with pneumococcal infection confirmed bacteriologically. It is concluded that in pathogenesis of the aneurysmal rupture in pneumococcal infection a significant role is played not only by pneumococcal tropism to the meninges, but also by affection of the endothelium and cerebral vascular membranes, hemostasis defects, arterial hypertension as manifestations of a general adaptation syndrome.

RESUMO

A correlation analysis of the content of metals in the cerebrospinal fluid in 70 patients with bacterial meningoencephalitis showed that an increase of permeability of microvessel walls for macro- and microelements is accompanied by a reduction of the regulating activity of barrier structures. Pathomorphological examination of the brain by the method of scanning electron microscopy revealed structural changes of the microvessel walls as the basis of disorders of the barrier-transport function.

RESUMO

Atomic-absorption spectrophotometry was used to measure the concentration of certain metals in the blood and CSF in 70 patients suffering from bacterial meningoencephalitis depending on the gravity and stage of the inflammatory process. Probability statistical and correlation analysis of the content of metals in the blood and CSF made in possible to depict the status of permeability and different transformations that regulate the functions of the blood-brain barrier in patients seen over time.

RESUMO

A study was made of blood-brain barrier permeability for metals in 50 patients depending on the period and gravity of bacterial meningoencephalitis. Selective permeability of the blood-brain barrier for metals is aimed in different periods of the inflammatory process at the retention of the mineral composition of the cerebrospinal fluid within the limits required for normal function of the central nervous system.

RESUMO

The authors studied the blood-brain barrier permeability in 70 patients depending on the severity and terms of bacterial meningoencephalitis. It was shown that employment of the probability-statistical analysis of quantitative content of metal in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid allows to evaluate the working regimen of the blood-brain barrier from initial manifestations of functional insufficiency to failure of barrier compensation systems.

RESUMO

The author studied the quantitative content of metals in the cerebrospinal fluid of 80 patients depending on the terms and severity of bacterial meningoencephalitis. It was established that examination of the concentration of macro- and microelements in the cerebrospinal fluid reflects the state of mineral homeostasis and may be an objective test in the diagnosis of the disease.

RESUMO

Concentration of a large group of metals in the blood and liquor of 70 patients with bacterial encephalitis is studied by atomic-absorption spectrometry. Correlation analysis showed that in patients with brain edema microvessels behave in relation to metals as a linear dynamic system. Postmortem light microscopic and scanning electron microscopic study of 3 brains found a predominant damage to endothelial cells and argyrophilic component of the microvessel basal membrane in the brain and cerebellum cortex and basal nuclei. Various degree of the structural changes of the microcirculation and the state of the permeability results in a nonhomogeneous accumulation of metals in the brain tissue.

RESUMO

Based on clinical and immunological examinations of 60 patients with MME and 30 normal persons, the dynamics of the blood CIC content was studied depending on the time and gravity of the disease. The discovered changes in argyrophilic membranes of the vascular walls are determined to a considerable measure by the pathogenic action of CIC on microvessels, which entails the derangement of blood-brain barrier function and contributes to the development of acute purulent meningitis.

RESUMO

A study is presented of the quantitative content of blood metals in 60 patients depending on the duration and severity of bacterial meningoencephalitis. It was established that examination of the concentration of macro- and microelements in their dynamics reflects the state of mineral blood homeostasis and can be used as supplementary criterion in the diagnosis of bacterial meningoencephalitis.

RESUMO

The authors made a clinical analysis of outcomes of meningococcal meningoencephalitis in 100 patients with consciousness disturbances. It was established that the outcome of the disease depended on the time of hospitalization and degree of disturbed consciousness. The dynamics of neurological symptoms and echoencephalography of brain edema is of importance in evaluation of the prognosis of meningoencephalitis.

RESUMO

A biochemical study of the level of sialic acids in the blood of 60 patients and pathomorphological examination of autopsy material in 32 cases of meningoencephalitis of different etiology allowed to establish a certain relationship between the state of noncellular substance of vessel walls and the level of sialic acids in the blood playing a certain role in the pathogenesis of edema-swelling of the brain.

RESUMO

Combined investigation was performed in 370 patients with meningoencephalitis caused by different etiological factors. This comprised the clinical, laboratory, pathological (in 20 deceased patients) studies aimed at elucidating the role of cerebral microcirculation (CM) disorders in the pathogenesis of its inflammatory lesions. Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) was detected in meningoencephalitides of various etiologies with all homeostatic links inflicted: blood vessels, platelets, coagulation. DIC had a major impact on the initiation, course and outcome of the disease. Severe microcirculatory disorders boosted the cerebral edema, promoted hemorrhagies. A close link was established between stage-by-stage nature of CM disorders development and clinical features of meningoencephalitis.
