[Etiology and pathogenesis of inguinal hernias]. / Etiologiia i patogenez pakhovykh gryzh.

The article deals with the most debatable problems of etiopathogenesis of inguinal hernias. The principal role of pathology of the vaginal process of the peritoneum in the etiology of oblique inguinal hernias is shown and the frequency of this pathological condition is determined. On the basis of the study the authors substantiate the need for the etiopathogenetic principle in the choice of the method of herniotomy.

In operative treatment of inguinal hernias by conventional methods, the incidence of recurrences was 12.4%. The analysis of causes was carried out, and factors of risk for the development of hernia recurrence were distinguished. A classification of inguinal hernias is suggested with indication of the pathogenetically substantiated methods of operation.
