[Molecular analysis of the Y chromosome in XX sex-reversed patients].

Molecular genetic analysis was performed for 26 phenotypically male patients lacking the Y chromosome in the karyotype. The sex-determining region Y (SRY) gene was found in 77% of the patients. PCR analysis of Y-specific loci in the 17 SRY-positive patients revealed Yp fragments varying in size in 16 cases and cryptic mosaicism (or chimerism) for the Y chromosome in one case. The frequencies of class I, II, and III (Yp+)XX sex reversals were 18.75, 25.25, and 56%, respectively. All of the class III (Yp+)XX sex-reversed patients had a 3.5-Mb paracentric inversion flanked by inverted repeats 3 (IR3) on the short arm of the Y chromosome.

Morphofunctional peculiarities of the effects of electric coagulator on thyroid tissue.

Morphological changes in the thyroid tissue after exposure to coagulators were studied. Application of a monopolar coagulator resulted in the formation of narrow marginal coagulation necrosis on day 3, with a fibrous capsule of different thickness, and marginal sclerosis of the glandular parenchyma; inflammatory changes in the connective tissue in the resection edge persisted for 14 days. Bipolar coagulator produced the most pronounced damaging effect leaving septae up to 10 mm long penetrating into the depth of the gland and causing stubborn persistent deep and marginal sclerosis of the gland.

Mechanisms of extraribosomal protein biosynthesis in eukaryotes.

The appearance of newly synthesized proteins in the total protein fraction of a cell-free protein-synthesizing system not containing ribosomes and mRNA and enriched with polyenzyme complexes of aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases and corresponding proteins is proved experimentally. For modeling of extraribosomal protein biosynthesis we proposed a molecular polyenzyme mechanism of protein biosynthesis on a protein matrix.

[Pathomorphological study in craniocerebral injury]. / Patomorfologicheskie izmeneniia pri cherpno-mozgovoi travme.

Time course of the posttraumatic process in craniocerebral injuries is analyzed. Pathomorphological picture of changes in soft tissues of the head, meninx, and brain matter are described. Several periods are distinguished. Factors affecting the course of the posttraumatic process in the above-mentioned structures are discussed.

[Trends in the development of research in the field of liposomes (review of patent literature)]. / Tendentsii v razvitii issledovanii v oblasti liposom (obzor patentnoi literatury).

The review embraces major trends and tendencies in liposome studies and is based on the statistical and qualitative analysis of patent information issued in the period 1970-1988. Special attention is devoted to the analysis of patents in liposome production techniques, their lipid composition, and application in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries and also for the diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Liposomal preparations are shown to be superior to common drugs as concerns, in particular, liposomes containing medicinal agents for prolonged use (including hormones, antibiotics, cytostatics, and immunostimulants) and liposomes used in dermatological practice. Liposome-based assessment of application prospects is given.

Enzyme immobilization on heparin.

We describe the preparation and some of the properties of heparin-bound alpha-chymotrypsin that were obtained via activation of heparin with water-soluble carbodiimide. Immobilized enzyme has unchanged kinetic characteristics toward low-molecular- weight and macromolecular substrates. The heparin-bound enzymes could have a wide range of medical applications.

[New approach to the deposition of biologically active compounds in the body: an experimental study of the intracoronary administration of modified Sephadex]. / Novyi podkhod k deponirovaniiu biologicheski aktivnykh soedinenii v organizme: izuchenie intrakoronarnogo vvedeniia modifitsirovannogo sefadeksa v éksperiemnte.

The possibility of depositing in the myocardium drugs immobilized on modified Sephadex was studied. The method makes it possible to produce optimum local concentration of the drug with a predetermined rate of its detachment and has significant advantages over the commonly used methods for introducing drugs. Appraisal of a complex of data, including the findings of morphologic examination and analysis of the ECG and the curves of changes in the activity of CPK and hypoxanthine, has shown that intracoronary administration of 0.02 mg of Sephadex microspheres (approximately 20 000 microparticles) 20--40 mc in diameter per 1 g of dog myocardium has no harmful microembolic effect.
