Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) is one of the additive manufacturing (AM) techniques that have emerged as the most feasible and prevalent approach for generating functional parts due to its ability to produce neat and intricate parts. FDM mainly utilises one of the widely used polymers, polylactic acid, also known as polylactide (PLA). It is an aliphatic polyester material and biocompatible thermoplastic, with the best design prospects due to its eco-friendly properties; when PLA degrades, it breaks down into water and carbon dioxide, neither of which are hazardous to the environment. However, PLA has its limitations of poor mechanical properties. Therefore, a filler reinforcement may enhance the characteristics of PLA and produce higher-quality FDM-printed parts. The processing parameters also play a significant role in the final result of the printed parts. This review aims to study and discover the properties of PLA and the optimum processing parameters. This review covers PLA in FDM, encompassing its mechanical properties, processing parameters, characterisation, and applications. A comprehensive description of FDM processing parameters is outlined as it plays a vital role in determining the quality of a printed product. In addition, PLA polymer is highly desirable for various field industrial applications such as in a medical, automobile, and electronic, given its excellent thermoplastic and biodegradability properties.

Natrox™ topical oxygen therapy (TOT) (Inotec AMD Ltd, Cambridgeshire, UK) employs a small battery-powered "oxygen generator" to concentrate atmospheric oxygen and feeds pure, moist, oxygen through a fine, soft tube to a dressing-like "oxygen distribution system", which is placed over the wound and is held in place by a conventional dressing. The aim was to determine the effectiveness of Natrox™ for non-healing diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) over a 3-month period.Longitudinal, single-arm, open prospective registry study using 12 weeks of TOT using a 4 week run-in period. 20 patients recruited to OTONAL had chronic DFU greater than 3 months duration or minor amputation sites with less than 50% healing in 4 weeks.There were 13 (65%) males and the mean age was 65.7 (±11.6) years. The mean glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) was 6.9 (±1.3) mmol mol-1 and mean wound duration before TOT was 114 (±79.1) days. 18/20 (90.0%) patients had concomitant lower limb revascularization angioplasty for chronic limb threatening ischaemia. The mean size of the foot ulcer at baseline was 11.3 ± 14.8 cm2 and mean transcutaneous oxygen measurement value was 34.1 (±19.6) mm Hg. Wound closure of >75% was observed in 14/20 (70.0%) patients. There was a 91.3% (±14.9%) wound area reduction by 3 months (P = .001) and mean time for 100% closure was 77.6 ± 32.5 days. Mean pain scores reduced from 2.4 (±1.8) at baseline to .5 (±1.0) at 3 months (P = .008). All patients were very satisfied using the ambulatory device. Use of TOT in chronic diabetic foot wounds stimulates a healing state, underpinning the concept that oxygen plays a central role in wound healing. Our results are more compelling if you consider they started with relatively large-sized DFUs and majority of patients were frail with underlying peripheral artery disease. (NCT03863054).

Background and study aims Colonoscopy is the "gold standard" investigation for assessment of the large bowel that detects and prevents colorectal cancer, as well as non-neoplastic conditions. The Joint Advisory Group (JAG) on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy recommends monitoring key performance indicators such as cecal intubation rate (CIR) and adenoma detection rate (ADR). We aimed to investigate the quality of colonoscopies carried out during evening and Saturday lists in our unit and compare them against JAG standards of quality for colonoscopies. Patients and methods We retrospectively collected and analyzed demographical and procedure-related data for non-screening colonoscopies performed between January 2016 and November 2018. Evenings and Saturdays were defined as the out-of-hour (OOH) period. We compared the outcomes of the procedures done in these against the working hours of the weekdays. We also wanted to explore whether the outcomes were different among certain endoscopists. Other factors that could affect the KPIs, such as endoscopist experience and bowel preparation, were also analyzed. Results There were a total of 17634 colonoscopies carried out; 56.9 % of the patients (n = 10041) < 70 years old. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of weekday, evening, and Saturday colonoscopies regarding the CIR and ADR met the JAG standards as they were above 93 % and 24 %, respectively. Advanced colonoscopists had better KPIs when compared to the non-advanced colonoscopists, with CIR at 97.6 % vs. 93.2 % and ADR at 40.8 % vs. 26 %, respectively. Conclusions JAG standards were maintained during colonoscopies done on weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays. Advanced colonoscopists had higher CIR and ADRs.

Metarhizium anisopliae Metchnikoff (Hypocreales: Clavicipitaceae) is a fungal pathogen that causes disease in various insect pests, and it can be exploited and developed as a biological control agent to combat the red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus Olivier (Coleoptera: Dryophthoridae). The study on indigenous isolates is crucial especially for development of bioinsecticides in the future. The M. anisopliae strain called MET-GRA4 was tested for pathogenicity against adult red palm weevil and treated in vitro with different spore viabilities. The isolates exhibited pathogenicity with 100% mortality 21 d postinfection. The median lethal time (LT50) for 85% viable spores was 8.6 d, while 39% viable spores had an LT50 value of 21.37 d, with 92 and 16.6% mycosis, respectively. The species MET-GRA4 strain was molecularly characterized using ITS1 and ITS4 from pure culture (Isolate A), mass-produced spores (Isolate B), and infected red palm weevil cadavers (Isolate C). The DNA sequences obtained matched M. anisopliae sequences, with 99% similarity. This new isolate of M. anisopliae has potential as a targeted bioinsecticide for management of red palm weevil.
