RESUMO

Single-crystalline perovskite LaBaCo2O5.5+δ thin films were grown on a (110) NdGaO3 single-crystal substrate in order to systematically investigate the effect of lattice mismatch on the electrical transport properties in comparison to the films on LaAlO3, SrTiO3, and MgO substrates. Microstructure studies reveal that all of the LaBaCo2O5.5+δ films are of excellent quality with atomically sharp interface structures. The electrical and magnetic transport property studies indicate that the resistivity, magnetoresistance, and magnetic moment of the film are very sensitive to the substrate materials because of the lattice mismatch/interface strain. The Curie temperature, however, is almost independent of the strain imposed by the substrate, probably because of the strong coupling between the nanodomain boundary and interface strain.

RESUMO

A giant magnetoresistance effect (∼46% at 20 K under 7 T) and anomalous magnetic properties were found in a highly epitaxial double perovskite LaBaCo2O5.5+δ (LBCO) thin film on (001) MgO. Aberration-corrected Electron Microscopy and related analytical techniques were employed to understand the nature of these unusual physical properties. The as-grown film is epitaxial with the c-axis of the LBCO structure lying in the film plane and with an interface relationship given by (100)LBCO || (001)MgO and [001]LBCO || [100]MgO or [010]MgO. Orderly oxygen vacancies were observed by line profile electron energy loss spectroscopy and by atomic resolution imaging. Especially, oxygen vacancy and nanodomain structures were found to have a crucial effect on the electronic transport and magnetic properties.

RESUMO

Three novel vanadogermanate cluster anions have been synthesized by hydrothermal reactions. The cluster anions are derived from the (V(18)O(42)) Keggin cluster shell by substitution of V=O(2+) "caps" by Ge(2)O(OH)(2)(4+) species. In Cs(8)[Ge(4)V(16)O(42)(OH)(4)].4.7H(2)O, 1, (monoclinic, space group C2/c (No. 15), Z = 8, a = 44.513(2) A, b = 12.7632(7) A, c = 22.923(1) A, beta = 101.376(1) degrees ) and (pipH(2))(4)(pipH)(4)[Ge(8)V(14)O(50).(H(2)O)] (pip = C(4)N(2)H(10)), 2 (tetragonal, space group P4(2)/nnm (No. 134), Z = 2, a = 14.9950(7) A, c = 18.408(1) A), two and four VO(2+) caps are replaced, respectively, and each cluster anion encapsulates a water molecule. In K(5)H(8)Ge(8)V(12)SO(52).10H(2)O, 3, (tetragonal, space group I4/m (No. 87), Z = 2, a = 15.573(1) A, c = 10.963(1) A), four VO(2+) caps are replaced by Ge(2)O(OH)(2)(4+) species, and an additional two are omitted. The cluster ion in 3 contains a sulfate anion disordered over two positions. The cluster anions are analogous to the vanadoarsenate anions [V(18)(-)(n)()As(2)(n)()O(42)(X)](m)(-) (X = SO(3), SO(4), Cl; n = 3, 4) previously reported.

RESUMO

We demonstrate low-potential intercalation of lithium in a solid-state metal phosphide. A topotactic first-order transition between different but related crystal structures at room temperature takes place by an electrochemical redox process: MnP4 <--> Li7MnP4. The P-P bonds in the MnP4 structure are cleaved at the time of Li insertion (reduction) to produce crystalline Li7MnP4 and are reformed after reoxidation to MnP4, thereby acting as an electron storage reservoir. This is an unusual example of facile covalent bond breaking within the crystalline solid state that can be reversed by the input of electrochemical energy.

RESUMO

The 1/2V2O5-H2C2O4/H3PO4/NH4OH system was investigated using hydrothermal techniques. Four new phases, (NH4)VOPO(4).1.5H2O (1), (NH4)0.5VOPO(4).1.5H2O (2), (NH4)2[VO(H2O)3]2[VO(H2O)][VO(PO4)2]2.3H2O (3), and (NH4)2[VO(HPO4)]2(C2O4).H2O (4), have been prepared and structurally characterized. RESUMO

The first layered vanadium borophosphate (imidazolium)3.8(H3O)1.2[(VO)4(BO)2(PO4)5].0.3H2O (1) has been synthesized hydrothermally and characterized by chemical analysis, infrared and Raman spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric and magnetic measurements. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c, a = 9.4737 (5) A, b = 22.1444 (12) A, c = 17.2192 (13) A, beta = 105.936 (1) degrees, Z = 4. The structure contains a novel borophosphate secondary building unit, [B2P5O22], in which two BP2O10 trimers are linked by an additional PO4 tetrahedron. These units are connected by V(IV)2O8 dimers and V(IV)O5 square pyramids to form layers. The space between the layers is filled by disordered imidazolium and hydronium cations and water molecules that form a complex network of hydrogen bonds. A model for the interlayer disorder is proposed.

RESUMO

Three new strontium vanadium borophosphate compounds, (NH4)2(C2H10N2)6[Sr(H2O)5]2[V2P2BO12]6 10H2O (Sr-VBPO1) (1), (NH4)2(C3H12N2)6[Sr(H2O)4]2[V2P2BO12]6 17H2O (Sr-VBPO2) (2), and (NH4)3(C4H14N2)4.5[Sr(H2O)5]2[Sr(H2O)4][V2P2BO12]6 10H2O (Sr-VBPO3) (3) have been synthesized by interdiffusion methods in the presence of diprotonated ethylenediamine, 1,3-diaminopropane, and 1,4-diaminobutane. Compound 1 has a chain structure, whereas 2 and 3 have layered structures with different arrangements of [(NH4) [symbol: see text] [V2P2BO12]6] cluster anions within the layers. Crystal data: (NH4)2(C2H10N2)6[Sr(H2O)5]2[V2P2BO12]6 10H2O, monoclinic, space group C2/c (no. 15), a = 21.552(1) A, b = 27.694(2) A, c = 20.552(1) A, beta = 113.650(1) degrees, Z = 4; (NH4)2(C3H12N2)6[Sr(H2O)4]2[V2P2BO12]6 17H2O, monoclinic, space group I2/m (no. 12), a = 15.7618(9) A, b = 16.4821(9) A, c = 21.112(1) A, beta = 107.473(1) degrees, Z = 2; (NH4)3(C4H14N2)4.5[Sr(H2O)5]2[Sr(H2O)4] [V2P2BO12]6 10H2O, monoclinic, space group C2/c (no. 15), a = 39.364(2) A, b = 14.0924(7) A, c = 25.342(1) A, beta = 121.259(1) degrees, Z = 4. The differences in the three structures arise from the different steric requirements of the amines that lead to different amine-cluster hydrogen bonds.
