RESUMO

Several studies have focused on the association between the ERCC2 rs13181 polymorphism and glioma risk, but the results were inconclusive. We aimed to conduct a meta-analysis to investigate the role of ERCC2 rs13181 on the risk of glioma. We searched and collated the relevant studies in both Chinese and English through the PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE databases published through June 1, 2014. A total of 11 studies for ERCC2 rs13181 were selected; these included 3456 glioma cases and 4957 controls. Using fixed-effects model analysis, we found that no significant difference could be identified between the ERCC2 rs13181 polymorphism and the risk of glioma. Subgroup analysis showed that the ERCC2 rs13181 GT and TT genotypes were significantly associated with an increased risk of glioma in the Chinese population [odds ratio (OR) = 1.47, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.17-1.85; and OR = 1.50, 95%CI = 1.02-2.22, respectively], but no significant increased risk of glioma was detected with these genotypes in the Caucasian populations. No publication bias was identified in this meta-analysis. Our meta-analysis strongly suggested that ERCC2 rs13181 was associated with a higher susceptibility to glioma in the Chinese population.

RESUMO

The development and characterization of a new tropical marine fish cell line (GS), derived from the spleen of orange spotted grouper, Epinephelus coioides is described. The GS cells grow well in Leibovitz's L-15 medium supplemented with 10% foetal bovine serum, and have been subcultured more than 200 times. The optimal growth temperature was 27 degrees C. The GS cell culture consisted of mostly fibroblastic cells. The modal diploid chromosome number was 48. GS cell cultures showed advanced cytopathic effects after infection with a pathogenic grouper iridovirus (Singapore grouper iridovirus, SGIV) or with a grouper nodavirus (Epinephelus tauvina nervous necrosis virus, ETNNV). Analysis by transmission electron microscopy showed a large number of SGIV and ETNNV particles in the cytoplasm of virus-infected cells, respectively, indicative of high sensitivity to these two viruses. Immunofluorescence microscopy showed that iridovirus-infected GS cells reacted strongly with monoclonal antibody against the grouper iridovirus. It is suggested that the GS cell line has good potential as a diagnostic tool for isolation and propagation of iridovirus and nodavirus. When the GS cells were transfected with pEGFP vector DNA, significant fluorescent signals were observed suggesting that the GS cell line can be used as a useful tool for transgenic and genetic manipulation studies.

RESUMO

Microbial transformation of fraxinellone (1) by Aspergillus niger (AS 3.421) has been carried out. Two converted products, dasycarpol (2) and a new compound fraxinigerllone (3) were obtained. Their structures have been identified on the basis of spectroscopic methods. Dasycarpol shows moderate inhibitory activity on lung cancer cell line A549.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the mechanism of electrothrombosis by copper needle, in order to supply the referential data for clinical treatment of vessel deformity. METHODS: The mechanism and condition of thrombus formation by copper needle were studied in vivo and in vitro using electrophysics, atom absorption spectrophtometry, histological, and histochemical methods. RESULTS: Great deal of copper ion was dissociated, and agglutination of red blood cells(RBC) in blood could be observed in vitro after the current applied by copper needles. Formation of stable thrombus was related to voltage and time of application of electric current. CONCLUSION: Dissociation of copper ion and agglutination of RBC are the basic principle of electrothrombosis with copper needle. A 4V direct current and 17.5 minutes are the safe and effective conditions for thrombus formation in the blood vessels.
