RESUMO

As the forest health care in China is still in the early stage of development, the construction standards of forest health care base are not unified yet, resulting in large differences in the evaluation criterion for the ecological environment of forest health care bases. So, it is urgent to develop a new forest health care ecological environment quality assessment method. Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces of China were selected as the study area, the previous 6 batches of 165 national forest health care pilot construction bases were selected as the main data source. This study explored the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of forest health care bases in the study area using standard deviation ellipses, kernel density estimation method and cold and hot spot analysis. Furthermore, this study evaluated the ecological environment quality of the forest health care bases with a new ecological environment quality evaluation index model, which assembled Fraction Vegetation Coverage (FVC), Wetness (WET), Evapotranspiration (ET), Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Normalized Difference Bare Soil Index (NDBSI). The results are as follows: (1) the forest health bases in the study area are mainly located by the east of the Hu Line with a northeast-southwest distribution direction characteristics, and gradually expanded into a shape of "high in the east and low in the west, multi-point development". (2) the area with ecological environment quality in excellent, good and medium grade accounts for about 87.73 % in the study area, indicating that most of the study area is suitable for the construction of forest health care base. These results can provide a practical guidance for the further rational layout and balanced development of forest health care bases in the study area.

RESUMO

Quantum ghost image technique utilizing position or momentum correlations between entangled photons can realize nonlocal reconstruction of the image of an object. In this work, based on polarization entanglement, we experimentally demonstrate quantum ghost imaging of vector images by using a geometric phase object. We also provide a corresponding theoretical analysis. Additionally, we offer a geometrical optics path explanation of ghost imaging for vector fields. The proposed strategy offers new insights into the fundamental development of ghost imaging and also holds great promise for developing complex structured ghost imaging techniques. Our work expanding the principle of ghost imaging to spatially varying vector beams will lead to interesting developments of this field.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Individuals with refractory ascites in the context of liver cirrhosis typically face an adverse prognosis. The transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) is an efficacious intervention, but there is a lack of reliable tools for postoperative prognosis assessment. Previously utilized clinical biochemical markers, such as the serum albumin concentration (Alb), sodium (Na+) concentration, and serum creatinine (Scr), have limited predictive value. Therefore, the quest for novel, specific biomarkers to evaluate the post-TIPS prognosis in patients with liver cirrhosis and refractory ascites holds significant practical importance. AIM: To investigate the associations between the Child-Pugh score, model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score, and serum cystatin C (Cys C) level and post-TIPS prognosis in patients with liver cirrhosis and refractory ascites. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 75 patients with liver cirrhosis and refractory ascites who underwent TIPS at our institution from August 2019 to August 2021. These patients were followed up regularly for two years, and the death toll was meticulously documented. The patients were allocated into a survival group (n = 45 patients) or a deceased group (n = 30 patients) based on their prognosis status. The clinical data of the two groups were collected, and Child-Pugh scores and MELD scores were calculated for analysis. Spearman correlation analysis was carried out to evaluate the correlation of prognosis with Child-Pugh grade, MELD score, and Cys C level. Additionally, a multiple-factor analysis utilizing the Cox proportional hazard model was used to identify independent risk factors affecting the post-TIPS prognosis of patients with liver cirrhosis and refractory ascites. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) ascertained the predictive value of the Cys C concentration, Child-Pugh grade, and MELD score for the prognosis of liver cirrhosis with refractory ascites in post-TIPS patients. RESULTS: During a 2-year follow-up period, among 75 patients with liver cirrhosis and refractory ascites who underwent TIPS treatment, 30 patients (40.00%) passed away. The deceased cohort exhibited heightened aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, total bilirubin, Scr, prothrombin time, Cys C, international normalized ratio, Child-Pugh, and MELD scores compared to those of the survival cohort, while Alb and Na+ levels were attenuated in the deceased group (P < 0.05). Spearman analysis revealed moderate to high positive correlations between prognosis and Child-Pugh score, MELD score, and Cys C level (r = 0.709, 0.749, 0.671, P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis using the Cox proportional hazard model demonstrated that the independent risk factors for post-TIPS prognosis in patients with liver cirrhosis and refractory ascites were Cys C (HR = 3.802; 95%CI: 1.313-11.015), Child-Pugh (HR = 3.030; 95%CI: 1.858-4.943), and MELD (HR = 1.222; 95%CI: 1.073-1.393) scores. ROC analysis confirmed that, compared to those of the classic prognostic models for Child-Pugh and MELD scores, the predictive accuracy of Cys C for post-TIPS prognosis in patients with liver cirrhosis and refractory ascites was slightly lower. This analysis yielded sensitivity and specificity values of 83.33% and 82.22%, respectively. The area under the curve value at this juncture was 0.883, with an optimal cutoff value set at 1.95 mg/L. CONCLUSION: Monitoring the serum Cys C concentration is valuable for assessing the post-TIPS prognosis in patients with liver cirrhosis and refractory ascites. Predictive models based on serum Cys C levels, as opposed to Scr levels, are more beneficial for evaluating the condition and prognosis of patients with ascites due to cirrhosis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Esophageal-gastric variceal bleeding (EGVB) represents a severe complication among patients with cirrhosis and often culminates in fatal outcomes. Interventional therapy, a rapidly developing treatment modality over the past few years, has found widespread application in clinical practice due to its minimally invasive characteristics. However, whether transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) treatment has an impact on patient prognosis remains controversial. AIM: To probing the efficacy of TIPS for treating cirrhotic EGVB and its influence on the prognosis of patients afflicted by this disease. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on ninety-two patients presenting with cirrhotic EGVB who were admitted to our hospital between September 2020 and September 2022. Based on the different modes of treatment, the patients were assigned to the study group (TIPS received, n = 50) or the control group (percutaneous transhepatic varices embolization received, n = 42). Comparative analyses were performed between the two groups preoperatively and one month postoperatively for the following parameters: Varicosity status; hemodynamic parameters [portal vein flow velocity (PVV) and portal vein diameter (PVD); platelet count (PLT); red blood cell count; white blood cell count (WBC); and hepatic function [albumin (ALB), total bilirubin (TBIL), and aspartate transaminase (AST)]. The Generic Quality of Life Inventory-74 was utilized to assess quality of life in the two groups, and the 1-year postoperative rebleeding and survival rates were compared. RESULTS: Following surgical intervention, there was an improvement in the incidence of varicosity compared to the preoperative status in both cohorts. Notably, the study group exhibited more pronounced enhancements than did the control group (P < 0.05). PVV increased, and PVD decreased compared to the preoperative values, with the study cohort achieving better outcomes (P < 0.05). PLT and WBC counts were elevated postoperatively in the two groups, with the study cohort displaying higher PLT and WBC counts (P < 0.05). No differences were detected between the two groups in terms of serum ALB, TBIL, or AST levels either preoperatively or postoperatively (P < 0.05). Postoperative scores across all dimensions of life quality surpassed preoperative scores, with the study cohort achieving higher scores (P < 0.05). At 22.00%, the one-year postoperative rebleeding rate in the study cohort was significantly lower than that in the control group (42.86%; P < 0.05); conversely, no marked difference was observed in the 1-year postoperative survival rate between the two cohorts (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: TIPS, which has demonstrated robust efficacy in managing cirrhotic EGVB, remarkably alleviates varicosity and improves hemodynamics in patients. This intervention not only results in a safer profile but also contributes significantly to a more favorable prognosis.

RESUMO

In the past decade, the outbreak of Streptococcus agalactiae has caused significant economic losses in tilapia farming. Vaccine immunization methods and strategies have gradually evolved from single-mode to multi-mode overall prevention and control strategies. In this study, an inactivated vaccine of S. agalactiae with a chitosan oligosaccharide (COS) adjuvant was constructed using different administration methods: intraperitoneal injection (Ip), immersion combined with intraperitoneal injection (Im + Ip), immersion combined with oral administration (Im + Or), and oral administration (Or). Safety analysis revealed no adverse effects on tilapia, and the vaccine significantly promoted fish growth and development when administered through Im + Or or Or immunization. Following vaccination, innate immunity parameters including SOD, ACP and CAT activities were all significantly enhanced. Additionally, specific serum IgM antibodies reached their highest level at the 6th week post vaccination. Skin and intestinal mucus IgT antibodies reached peaked at the 6th and 7th week post vaccination, respectively. The relative peak expression values for IL-8, IL-12, MHC-I, MHC-II, IgM, IgT, CD4, CD8, TNFα, IFNγ from Im + Ip group were significantly higher than those in Ip group, Im + Or group and Or group in most cases (p < 0.05). Importantly, the relative protection survival of Im + Ip group was the highest (78.6%), followed by the Ip group (71.4%), the Or group (64.3%) and the Im + Or group (57.1%). In summary, this study encourages further research on multi-channel immunization strategies of other kinds of vaccines in other aquatic economic animals to improve their disease resistance.

RESUMO

In the presence of a thiyl radical species, the catalytic Markovnikov thiol-ene reaction is challenging because it prefers to proceed via a radical pathway, thereby leading to anti-Markovnikov selectivity. In this work, a rare example of thiyl radical engaged in Markovnikov thiol-ene reaction enabled by cobalt catalysis is reported. This protocol features the avoidance of unique oxidants, exclusive regioselectivity, and broad substrate scope. Scalable synthesis and late-stage modification of complex molecules demonstrate the practicability of the protocol.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: To identify anatomic prognostic factors and their potential roles in refining M1 classification for de novo metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (M1-NPC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: All M1-NPC treated with chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy between 2010 and 2019 from two centers (training and validation cohort) were included. The prognostic value of metastatic disease extent and involved organs for overall survival (OS) were assessed by several multivariable analyses (MVA) models. A new M1 classification was proposed and validated in a separate cohort who received immuno-chemotherapy. RESULTS: A total of 197 M1-NPC in the training and 307 in the validation cohorts were included for M1 subdivision study with median follow-up of 46 and 57 months. MVA model with "≤2 organs/≤5 lesions" as the definition of oligometastasis had the highest C-index (0.623) versus others (0.606-0.621). Patients with oligometastasis had better OS versus polymetastasis (hazard ratio [HR] 0.47/0.63) while liver metastases carried worse OS (HR 1.57/1.45) in MVA in the training/validation cohorts, respectively. We proposed to divide M1-NPC into M1a (oligometastasis without liver metastases) and M1b (liver metastases or polymetastasis) with 3-year OS of 66.5%/31.7% and 64.9%/35.0% in the training/validation cohorts, respectively. M1a subset had a better median progress-free survival (not reach vs. 17 months, p < 0.001) in the immuno-chemotherapy cohort (n = 163). CONCLUSION: Oligometastasis (≤2 organs/≤5 lesions) and liver metastasis are prognostic for M1-NPC. Subdivision of M1-NPC into M1a (oligometastasis without liver metastasis) and M1b (liver metastasis or polymetastasis) depicts the prognosis well in M1-NPC patients who received immuno-chemotherapy.

RESUMO

Antibiotics play an essential role in the treatment of various diseases. However, the overuse of antibiotics has led to the pollution of water bodies and food safety, affecting human health. Herein, we report a dual-emission MOF-based flexible sensor for the detection of antibiotics in water, which was prepared by first encapsulating rhodamine B (RhB) by a zeolite imidazolium ester skeleton (ZIF-8) and then blending it with polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF). The luminescent properties, structural tunability, and flexible porosity of the MOF-based composites were combined with the processability and flexibility of polymers to prepare luminescent membranes. The sensor is capable of dual-emission ratiometric fluorescence sensing of nitrofurantoin (NFT) and oxytetracycline (OTC), exhibiting sensitive detection of fluorescence burst and fluorescence enhancement, respectively, with detection limits of 0.012 µM and 8.9 nM. With the advantages of visual detection, high sensitivity, short detection time, and simplicity, the highly sensitive ratiometric fluorescent flexible sensor has great potential for detecting antibiotics in an aqueous environment. It will further stimulate interest in luminescent MOF-based mixed matrix membranes and their sensing applications.

RESUMO

Chemotherapy remains controversial for stage II nasopharyngeal carcinoma because of its considerable prognostic heterogeneity. We aimed to develop an MRI-based deep learning model for predicting distant metastasis and assessing chemotherapy efficacy in stage II nasopharyngeal carcinoma. This multicenter retrospective study enrolled 1072 patients from three Chinese centers for training (Center 1, n = 575) and external validation (Centers 2 and 3, n = 497). The deep learning model significantly predicted the risk of distant metastases for stage II nasopharyngeal carcinoma and was validated in the external validation cohort. In addition, the deep learning model outperformed the clinical and radiomics models in terms of predictive performance. Furthermore, the deep learning model facilitates the identification of high-risk patients who could benefit from chemotherapy, providing useful additional information for individualized treatment decisions.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To compare the acute toxicity of two different induction chemotherapy (IndCT) regimen followed by the same IMRT in patients with advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: From July 2015 to December 2016, 110 NPC patients with stage III-IV diseases were prospectively randomized to receive either a conventional triweekly cisplatin + 5-fluorouracil (PF) for 3 cycles or weekly P-F for 10 doses, followed by the same IMRT to both arms. The primary endpoints of this study were grade 3/4 and any grade acute toxicities during IndCT period. The secondary endpoints included tumor response and various survivals. RESULTS: Baseline patient characteristics were comparable in both groups. Patients who received weekly P-F experienced significant reduction of grade 3/4 acute toxicities, including neutropenia (12.7% vs. 40.0%, P = 0.0012), anorexia (0% vs. 14.6%, P = 0.0059), mucositis (0% vs. 14.6%, P = 0.0059), and hyponatremia (0% vs. 16.4%, P = 0.0027), compared with the triweekly PF group, resulting in fewer IndCT interruptions (1.8% vs. 16.4%, P = 0.0203), emergency room visits (0% vs. 12.7%, P = 0.0128), and additional hospitalizations (0% vs. 9.1%, P = 0.0568). The acute toxicities during IMRT period were similar. Weekly P-F arm had higher complete response rates (83.6% vs. 61.8%, P = 0.0152) and lower relapse rates (16.4% vs. 33.3%, P = 0.0402) after a median follow-up of 67 months. Kaplan-Meier survival analyses revealed a better trend of locoregional failure-free (P = 0.0892), distant metastasis failure-free (P = 0.0775), and progression-free (P = 0.0709) survivals, favoring the weekly P-F arm. CONCLUSION: IndCT of weekly schedule does reduce acute toxicities without compromised tumor response and survivals.

RESUMO

Stronger intrinsic Warburg effect and resistance to chemotherapy are the responses to high mortality of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) plays an important role in this process. Promoting PKM2 conversion from dimer to tetramer is a critical strategy to inhibit Warburg effect and reverse chemotherapy resistance. Herein, a PKM2 allosteric converter (PAC) is constructed based on the "in vivo self-assembly" strategy, which is able to continuously stimulate PKM2 tetramerization. The PAC contains three motifs, a serine site that is protected by enzyme cleavable ß-N-acetylglucosamine, a self-assembly peptide and a AIE motif. Once PAC nanoparticles reach tumor site via the EPR effect, the protective and hydrophilic ß-N-acetylglucosamine will be removed by over-expressed O-GlcNAcase (OGA), causing self-assembled peptides to transform into nanofibers with large serine (PKM2 tetramer activator) exposure and long-term retention, which promotes PKM2 tetramerization continuously. Our results show that PAC-induced PKM2 tetramerization inhibits aberrant metabolism mediated by Warburg effect in cytoplasm. In this way, tumor proliferation and metastasis behavior could be effectively inhibited. Meanwhile, PAC induced PKM2 tetramerization impedes the nuclear translocation of PKM2 dimer, which restores the sensitivity of cancer cells to first-line anticancer drugs. Collectively, the innovative PAC effectively promotes PKM2 conversion from dimer to tetramer, and it might provide a novel approach for suppressing RCC and enhancing chemotherapy sensitivity.

RESUMO

This study examined the effectiveness of a DNA vaccine for S. agalactiae that was delivered by mannose-based polyethyleneimine (Man-PEI). The results showed that Man-PEI/pcDNA-Sip stimulated a higher serum antibody titer compared to control or other vaccine groups (p < 0.05). Additionally, it induced higher expression of immune-related genes, and increased activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), acid phosphatase (ACP) and alkaline phosphatase (AKP). Furthermore, the Man-PEI/pcDNA-Sip group showed an improved relative percent survival (RPS) of 85.71%. These results demonstrate the potential value of Man-PEI as a vaccine delivery vehicle, and suggest that it can be effective in boosting the immune protective rate induced by pcDNA-Sip vaccines.

RESUMO

Here, an efficient Minisci reaction of heteroarenes and unactivated C(sp3)-H alkanes was achieved using an inexpensive FeCl3 as a photocatalyst. The photogenerated chlorine radical contributed to the HAT of C-H and subsequently initiated this reaction. Surprisingly, salt water and even seawater can act as a chlorine radical source, which provided an enlightening idea for future organic synthesis methods.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: This multicenter retrospective study aimed to investigated the prognostic value of unequivocal radiologic extranodal extension (rENE) and the efficacy of chemotherapy for stage T1-2 N1 nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in the IMRT era. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We included 1,082 patients treated in 2005-2017 from three centers. rENE was recorded as G1 (coalescent nodal mass comprising ≥ 2 inseparable nodes) or G2 (invading beyond perinodal fat to frankly infiltrate adjacent structures). Multivariable analysis (MVA) evaluated the prognostic value of rENE. The value of chemotherapy was assessed in rENE-positive (rENE + ) and rENE-negative (rENE - ) subset separately. RESULTS: Centers 1, 2, and 3 had 139/515 (27.0 %), 100/365 (27.4 %), and 43/202 (21.3 %) cN + patients with rENE, respectively. Compared to rENE-, rENE + patients had a worse distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) and overall survival (OS) (all p < 0.001). MVA confirmed the prognostic of both G1-rENE and G2-rENE for distant metastasis [G1: hazard ratio (HR): 2.933, G2: HR: 6.942, all p < 0.001] and death (G1: HR: 1.587, p = 0.040; G2: HR: 6.162, p < 0.001). There was no significant difference for DMFS and OS between chemo-radiotherapy and radiotherapy alone in rENE + and rENE - groups (all p > 0.1). However, rENE + patients with a cumulative cisplatin/nedaplatin dose (CCND) of > 160 mg/m2 had an improved DMFS (p = 0.033) but no OS (p = 0.197). CONCLUSION: Unequivocal rENE is prognostic in patients with T1-2 N1 NPC. Addition of chemotherapy to radiotherapy did not affect DMFS and OS in rENE - patients. Chemotherapy with a CCND of > 160 mg/m2 improved DMFS in rENE + patients.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To assess the clinical significance of serum CA-125 levels in elderly patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 1613 participants-patients (aged ≥60 years) admitted to the Beijing Shijitan Hospital, Beijing, China from February 2015 to January 2021 and healthy participants, divided into 4 groups: PTB (group 1), pulmonary malignancies (group 2), pulmonary non-malignant diseases (group 3), and healthy participants (group 4). Data concerning demographics, physical examination findings, computed tomography, histopathological examination, and laboratory tests for Mycobacterium tuberculosis and serum CA-125 levels were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: There were 720 healthy individuals and 893 patients in the study. The median levels and abnormal rates of CA-125 in groups 1 (42.5, 57.3%) and 2 (34.4, 49.5%) were higher than those in groups 3 (21.1, 29.2%) and 4 (8.6, 0.4%) (p<0.05). The ordinal logistic regression analysis model revealed significant associations between CA-125 levels and PTB (OR and 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.749 (1.876-4.027)), hypoproteinemia [OR and 95% CI: 1.519 (1.114-2.070)], serous effusion [OR and 95% CI: 7.364 (5.346-10.143)], pulmonary malignancy [OR and 95% CI: 2.206 (1.518-3.204)], respiratory failure [OR and 95% CI: 3.216 (2.087-4.956)], and cor pulmonale [OR and 95% CI: 2.990 (1.282-6.973)]. CONCLUSION: Although elevated CA-125 levels may serve as a potential marker for diagnosing PTB in the elderly, they are affected by multiple factors, including serous effusion. Hence, caution is warranted while using this marker.

RESUMO

Here, we realize a regulable cross-coupling reaction using alcohols as alkylating reagents to functionalize benzothiazoles. Two types of cross-coupling products are obtained with the highest isolated yields of up to 99% and 90% for alkyl- and acetyl-derived benzothiazoles, respectively, which opens up a broad research prospect for expanding alcohols as alkylating reagents.

RESUMO

Over the past two decades, visible-light-induced transformations have been regarded as being among the most environmentally benign and powerful strategies for constructing complex molecules and diverse synthetic building blocks in organic synthesis. However, the development of efficient photochemical processes for assembling enantiomerically pure molecules remains a significant challenge. Herein, we describe a simple and efficient visible-light-induced C-P bond forming reaction for the synthesis of P-chiral heteroaryl phosphine oxides in moderate to high yields with excellent ee values (97-99% ee). Even in the absence of transition metal or photoredox catalysts, a variety of P-chiral heteroaryl phosphine oxides, including chiral diphosphine oxide 41, have been directly obtained under air conditions. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have shown that the reaction involves intersystem crossing and single electron transfer to give a diradical intermediate under visible light irradiation.

RESUMO

A new cell line was established from the brain of a cultured fish, tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), designated as TA-02 (Tilapia Astrocyte clone 02 cell line). The TA-02 cells are grown for 300 days in an L-15 medium supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS). This cell line showed excellent proliferative capacity and expressed various neuroglial cell markers, including SOX2, SOX10, Hes1, Notch1, Occludin, E-cadherin, and GFAP. In addition, TA-02 cells were susceptible to Tilapia Lake Virus (TiLV) as demonstrated by the presence of a severe cytopathic effect (CPE), virus particle in a transmission electron microscope (TEM), and PCR positive signal. Bacterial cytotoxicity studies showed that Streptococcus agalactiae was toxic to TA-02 cells. When co-culture with trans-well, TA-02 exhibited prominent barrier properties, manifested by tight intercellular junctions and increased trans-endothelial electrical resistance (TEER). In addition, the barrier is effective against Escherichia coli (non-meningitis pathogenic bacteria). In contrast, S. agalactiae (meningitis pathogenic bacteria) can pass through the membrane comprising the cells in the trans-well insert. The newly established TA-02 cell line provided a valuable tool for virus pathogenesis and a vitro model of the fish blood-brain barrier.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To propose a refined M1 classification in de novo metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) based on pooled data from two academic institutions. METHODS: Previously untreated de novo M1 NPC patients prospectively treated at The University of Hong Kong (N = 69) and Fujian Cancer Hospital (N = 114) between 2007 and 2016 were recruited and randomized in a 2:1 ratio to generate training (N = 120) and validation (N = 63) cohorts, respectively. Multivariable analysis (MVA) was performed for the training and validation cohorts to identify anatomic prognostic factors for overall survival (OS). Recursive partitioning analysis (RPA) was performed which incorporated the anatomic prognostic factors identified in the MVA to derive Anatomic-RPA groups which stratified OS in the training cohort, and were then validated in the validation cohort. RESULTS: Median follow-up for the training and validation cohorts was 27.2 and 30.2 months with 3-year OS of 51.6% and 51.1%, respectively. MVA revealed that co-existing liver-bone metastases was the only factor prognostic for OS in both the training and validation cohorts. Anatomic-RPA separated M1 disease into M1a (no co-existing liver-bone metastases) and M1b (co-existing liver-bone metastases) with median OS 39.5 and 23.7 months, respectively (p = 0.004) in the training cohort. RPA for the validation cohort also confirmed good segregation with co-existing liver-bone metastases with median OS 47.7 and 16.0 months, respectively (p = 0.008). CONCLUSION: Our proposal to subdivide de novo M1 NPC into M1a (no co-existing liver-bone metastases) vs. M1b (co-existing liver-bone metastases) provides better OS segregation.
