Artificial intelligence (AI) has fundamentally changed the way people live and has largely reshaped organizational decision-making processes. Particularly, AI decision making has become involved in almost every aspect of human resource management, including recruiting, selecting, motivating, and retaining employees. However, existing research only considers single-stage decision-making processes and overlooks more common multistage decision-making processes. Drawing upon person-environment fit theory and the algorithm reductionism perceptive, we explore how and when the order of decision makers (i.e., AI-human order vs. human-AI order) affects procedural justice in a multistage decision-making process involving AI and humans. We propose and found that individuals perceived a decision-making process arranged in human-AI order as having less AI ability-power fit (i.e., the fit between the abilities of AI and the power it is granted) than when the process was arranged in AI-human order, which led to less procedural justice. Furthermore, perceived AI ability buffered the indirect effect of the order of decision makers (i.e., AI-human order vs. human-AI order) on procedural justice via AI ability-power fit. Together, our findings suggest that the position of AI in collaborations with humans has profound impacts on individuals' justice perceptions regarding their decision making.

Abusive supervision has long been found to have remarkably negative impacts on individual and organizational outcomes. Accordingly, prior studies have explored many organizational and supervisory predictors of abusive supervision and offered several interventions to reduce it. However, extant research lacks the bottom-up perspective to explore how employees can act to reduce abusive supervision, which is an important factor that enriches abusive supervision literature and helps employees protect themselves from being abused. Drawing on self-disclosure theory, we develop a model of whether and how employee boundary blurring behavior may protect them from being abused by their supervisors. Specifically, we conducted two studies to test the theoretical model, including a scenario-based experimental study and a multi-source, multi-wave field study. The results reveal a negative indirect effect of employee boundary blurring behavior on abusive supervision via supervisor liking toward the employee. By uncovering employee boundary blurring behavior as an antecedent of abusive supervision, we enrich the abusive supervision literature with a bottom-up behavioral strategy for employees to proactively protect themselves from being abused. We hope our findings will encourage future studies to identify boundary conditions and other solutions for employees to minimize the risk of being abused.

Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) is commonly used to measure gene expression to further explore gene function, while suitable reference genes must be stably expressed under different experimental conditions to obtain accurate and reproducible data for relative quantification. Taxol or paclitaxel is an important anticancer compound mainly identified in Taxus spp. The molecular mechanism of the regulation of taxol biosynthesis is current research goal. However, in the case of Taxus spp., few reports were published on screening suitable reference genes as internal controls for qRT-PCR. Here, eight reference genes were selected as candidate reference genes for further study. Common statistical algorithms geNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper, ΔCt, and RefFinder were used to analyze the data from samples collected from a cell line of Taxus × media under various experimental conditions and from tissues of Taxus chinensis var. mairei. The expression patterns of TcMYC under salicylic acid treatment differed significantly, with the best and worst reference genes in the cell line. This study screened out suitable reference genes (GAPDH1 and SAND) under different treatments and tissues for the accurate and reliable normalization of the qRT-PCR expression data of Taxus spp. At the same time, this study will aid future research on taxol biosynthesis-related genes expression in Taxus spp., and can also be directly used to other related species.
