RESUMO

Multi-source functional block-wise missing data arise more commonly in medical care recently with the rapid development of big data and medical technology, hence there is an urgent need to develop efficient dimension reduction to extract important information for classification under such data. However, most existing methods for classification problems consider high-dimensional data as covariates. In the paper, we propose a novel multinomial imputed-factor Logistic regression model with multi-source functional block-wise missing data as covariates. Our main contribution is to establishing two multinomial factor regression models by using the imputed multi-source functional principal component scores and imputed canonical scores as covariates, respectively, where the missing factors are imputed by both the conditional mean imputation and the multiple block-wise imputation approaches. Specifically, the univariate FPCA is carried out for the observable data of each data source firstly to obtain the univariate principal component scores and the eigenfunctions. Then, the block-wise missing univariate principal component scores instead of the block-wise missing functional data are imputed by the conditional mean imputation method and the multiple block-wise imputation method, respectively. After that, based on the imputed univariate factors, the multi-source principal component scores are constructed by using the relationship between the multi-source principal component scores and the univariate principal component scores; and at the same time, the canonical scores are obtained by the multiple-set canonial correlation analysis. Finally, the multinomial imputed-factor Logistic regression model is established with the multi-source principal component scores or the canonical scores as factors. Numerical simulations and real data analysis on ADNI data show the proposed method works well.

RESUMO

Soybean is one of the most important food crops in the world. However, with the environmental change in recent years, many environmental factors like drought, salinity, heavy metal, and disease seriously affected the growth and development of soybean, causing substantial economic losses. In this study, we screened a bZIP transcription factor gene, GmbZIP152, which is significantly induced by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (S. sclerotiorum), phytohormones, salt-, drought-, and heavy metal stresses in soybean. We found that overexpression of GmbZIP152 in Arabidopsis (OE-GmbZIP152) enhances the resistance to S. sclerotiorum and the tolerance of salt, drought, and heavy metal stresses compared to wild-type (WT). The antioxidant enzyme related genes (including AtCAT1, AtSOD, and AtPOD1) and their enzyme activities are induced by S. sclerotiorum, salt, drought, and heavy metal stress in OE-GmbZIP152 compared to WT. Furthermore, we also found that the expression level of biotic- and abiotic-related marker genes (AtLOX6, AtACS6, AtERF1, and AtABI2, etc.) were increased in OE-GmbZIP152 compared to WT under S. sclerotiorum and abiotic stresses. Moreover, we performed a Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assay and found that GmbZIP152 could directly bind to promoters of ABA-, JA-, ETH-, and SA-induced biotic- and abiotic-related genes in soybean. Altogether, GmbZIP152 plays an essential role in soybean response to biotic and abiotic stresses.

RESUMO

A rotary cultivator is a primary cultivating machine in many countries. However, it is always challenged by high operating torque and power requirement. To address this issue, biomimetic rotary tillage blades were designed in this study for reduced torque and energy requirement based on the geometric characteristics (GC) of five fore claws of mole rats, including the contour curves of the five claw tips (GC-1) and the structural characteristics of the multiclaw combination (GC-2). Herein, the optimal blade was selected by considering three factors: (1) the ratio (r) of claw width to lateral spacing, (2) the inclined angle (θ) of the multiclaw combination, and (3) the rotary speed (n) through the soil bin tests. The results showed that the order of influence of factors on torque was n, r, and θ; the optimal combination of factors with the minimal torque was r = 1.25, θ = 60°, and n = 240 rpm. Furthermore, the torque of the optimal blade (BB-1) was studied by comparing with a conventional (CB) and a reported optimal biomimetic blade (BB-2) in the soil bin at the rotary speed from 160 to 320 rpm. Results showed that BB-1 and BB-2 averagely reduced the torque by 13.99% and 3.74% compared with CB, respectively. The field experiment results also showed the excellent soil-cutting performance of BB-1 whose average torques were largely reduced by 17.00%, 16.88%, and 21.80% compared with CB at different rotary speeds, forward velocities, and tillage depths, respectively. It was found that the geometric structure of the five claws of mole rats could not only enhance the penetrating and sliding cutting performance of the cutting edge of BB-1 but also diminish the soil failure wedge for minimizing soil shear resistance of BB-1. Therefore, the GC of five fore claws of mole rats could inspire the development of efficient tillage or digging tools for reducing soil resistance and energy consumption.

RESUMO

There is currently a growing demand for flexible strain sensors with high performance and water repellency for various applications such as human motion monitoring, sweat or humidity detection, and certain underwater tests. Among these strain sensors, paper-based ones have attracted increasing attention because they coincide with the future development trend of environment-friendly electronic products. However, paper-based electronics are easy to fail when they encounter water and are thus unable to be applied to humid or underwater circumstances. Herein, based on a strategy of coupling bionics inspired by lotus leaf and scorpion, which exhibit superhydrophobic characteristics and ultrasensitive vibration-sensing capacity, respectively, a paper-based strain sensor with high sensitivity and water repellency is successfully fabricated. As a result, the strain sensor exhibits a gauge factor of 263.34, a high strain resolution (0.098%), a fast response time (78 ms), excellent stability over 12,000 cycles, and a water contact angle of 164°. Owing to the bioinspired structures and function mechanisms, the paper-based strain sensor is suitable to not only serve as regular wearable electronics to monitor human motions in real-time but also to detect subtle underwater vibrations, demonstrating its great potential for numerous applications like wearable electronics, water environmental protection, and underwater robots.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Deletions in Xq21 cause various congenital defects in males including choroideremia, deafness and mental retardation, depending on their size and gene content. Until now only a limited number of patients with Xq21 deletions has been reported. CASE PRESENTATION: Here we describe a 17-year-old male with choroideremia, deafness, and mental retardation syndrome. Using SNP arrays, an 8.05 Mb deletion in Xq21 was identified inherited from the apparently healthy mother. The deleted region harbors 12 OMIM genes, of which POU3F4, CHM, and ZNF711 might have contributed to the patient's phenotype including hearing loss, poor vision, and intellectual disability. Moreover, the patient's mother exhibits a normal phenotype while carrying the same deletion, which is often observed in previous studies on female carriers in families with this syndrome. CONCLUSIONS: Our study confirms the causative effect between the Xq21 deletion in males and choroideremia, deafness and mental retardation.
