RESUMO

Periungual warts are frequently encountered in the field of dermatology. Here, we describe the case of a 69-year-old individual who presented with hand warts. The wart growth extended to the finger stump, resulting in a soft tissue defect on the fingertip of the right thumb. A treatment approach involving superficial x-ray therapy in combination with tretinoin was employed to address this finding. The warts disappeared after completing 26 days of the treatment regimen. Fingertip soft tissue defects due to periungual warts are a rare occurrence in clinical settings. This report serves as the first documented case of such a problem successfully managed with the treatment approach mentioned above.

BACKGROUND: Liver cancer, the vast majority of cases being hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is now the most malignant tumor in the world. Recurrence and metastasis remain the major obstacles on the way to the successful treatment of HCC. In recent years, the vital function of microRNAs (miRNAs) in human health and disease have been demonstrated. Large amounts of evidence demonstrate that miRNAs play an important role in the occurrence and progression of HCC. OBJECTIVES: To find new targets for improving the early diagnosis, treatment and clinical prognosis of liver cancer. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We used quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) to analyze the expression of miR-29a-5p. A cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay was used to measure the proliferation of liver cancer cells. Wound healing and transwell assays were used to detect migration and invasion in vitro. Western blot was used to detect the expression of the related protein. RESULTS: The miR-29a-5p was identified as a tumor-related miRNA. It is upregulated in HCC. The overexpression of miR-29a-5p contributes to the proliferation, invasion and metastasis of HCC cells. Furthermore, the downregulation of miR-29a-5p inhibited the growth, migration and invasion of HCC cells in vitro. Subsequently, we used bioinformatics methods to predict that AT-rich interaction domain 2 (ARID2) is the downstream target gene of miR-29a-5p. The downregulation of ARID2 could reverse the tumor suppressive effect caused by the knockdown of miR-29a-5p. Similarly, the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related protein epithelial marker E-cadherin expression increased and the mesenchymal marker Vimentin decreased when we downregulated the expression of miR-29a-5p. Interestingly, the knockdown of ARID2 could reverse this phenomenon. CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that miRNA-29a-5p was overexpressed in HCC cells. It promotes the progression of HCC by targeting ARID2 in an EMT manner.

Traditional Chinese medicine classifies psoriasis (Ps) according to clinical manifestations, and its different clinical manifestations imply the pathogenesis and material evolution basis of Ps, especially biomarkers that are meaningful to identification of Ps, treatment response, and elucidation of the pathogenesis of the disease. This study aims to screen differential metabolites in plasma of psoriasis vulgaris (PV) of blood heat syndrome based on a widely targeted metabolomic technique and to analyze syndrome metabolic markers and metabolic pathways. Forty-five PV patients were recruited, including 21 cases of the blood heat syndrome group (BH-PPG), 24 cases of the non-blood-heat syndrome group (NBH-PPG), and 30 healthy cases of the normal control group (NPG). The UPLC-MS/MS detection platform, a self-developed database, and multivariate statistical analysis were applied to investigate the plasma metabolic differences. The biomarkers related to blood heat syndrome were screened using the principal component analysis method. A total of 479 metabolites were detected in the three groups of plasma samples; 72 different metabolites were sorted out in the BH-PPG/NPG group, 82 in the NBH-PPG/NPG group, and 8 in the BH-PPG/NBH-PPG group. Differential metabolites mainly consist of metabolites of organic acids, amino acids, carbohydrates, and nucleotides. Multiple metabolites ginkgolic acid, pyrroloquinoline quinone, L-aspartic acid, and citramalic acid were expected to be the potential biomarkers of blood heat syndrome PV. The formation and evolution processes may be associated with disorders and regulation of metabolic pathways, ferroptosis, carbon metabolism, and purine metabolism.
