RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate the therapeutic effects of doxycycline nano-liposome slow-release gel on the periodontitis in an established rat model. METHODS: The biocompatibility was tested by oral perfusion sample gel for long term observation. Doxycycline nano-gel was used to treat the established rat model of periodontitis. The rats were selected randomly and divided into five groups: blank group, doxycycline nano-gel treated group, minocycline-treated group, matrix group and periodontitis model group. MMP-8 and TIMP-1 in the sulcus fluid were detected by real-time PCR. The data was analysed using SAS13.3 software package for Student's t test. RESULTS: Doxycycline nano-gel had excellent biocompatibility from weight measure and tissue section evaluation. The results in periodontitis rats demonstrated that doxycycline nano-gel could ameliorate periodontitis condition dramatically compared with the control group, the restoration even better than minocycline-treated group. CONCLUSIONS: Doxycycline nano-liposome slow-release gel improves rat periodontitis by decreasing MMP-8 level, which provides valuable evidence to promote doxycycline nano-gel clinical application.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To investigate and analyze the state of periodontal health of 400 adults at their post and risk factors in Shanghai. METHODS: 400 subjects (249 male, 151 female), aged from 25 to 59, were requested to fill a questionnaire. The probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), tooth mobility (TM) and bleeding on probing(BOP) on 6 sites of each indicated tooth were measured and recorded. SAS 6.12 software package was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: OHI-S of Shanghai adults at their post was 2.16 +/- 0.99 and GI = 1.2227, indicating moderate gingivitis. The difference of periodontal disease among the adults at varied occupations in Shanghai municipality was significant. Periodontal destruction of the clerk group was the lightest The difference of periodontal disease among the adults at varied age groups in Shanghai municipality was also significant. Periodontal destruction of the elder group was heavier than of the lower age group. 146 subjects suffered from initial to moderate periodontitis. 140 subjects suffered from advanced periodontitis. 79, 317 and 4 subjects had received college education, high school education and postgraduate school education respectively. There was no relationship between the severity of periodontitis and educational level. 330 out of 400 (82.5%) subjects had never been treated, 70 out of 400 (12.5%) had scaling, and only 3.25% of subjects had received regular periodontal treatment. CONCLUSION: It is very important to develop an education program on oral health for people in Shanghai. RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate the relationship between the calcaneus density and the degree of inflammation in patients with generalized aggressive periodontitis. METHODS: Thirty one volunteers with healthy periodontium (as control group) and 38 patients with generalized aggressive periodontitis (as experimental group) were involved in this study. The average ages of the two groups were 27 and 23 years respectively. The clinical periodontal indexes and panoramic films were measured first. And the broadband ultrasonic attenuation(BUA) and T-score of the calcaneus were then determined using ultrasonic bone densitometer. SAS6.12 software package was used to analyse the data obtained. RESULTS: The BUA values of the two groups were 62.76+/-4.61 and 70.47+/-4.41 respectively, the BUA value of the experimental group was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.001). Moreover, T-score was different between the two groups and the score in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The BUA and T-score in patients with generalized aggressive periodontitis were significantly lower than that in the controls with healthy periodontium, which indicated that patients with generalized aggressive periodontitis had overall bone density decrease.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical effect of a 0.1% cetylpyridinium chloride(CPC) rinse on the treatment of gingivitis and periodontitis. METHODS: A multicenter, randomized, parallel group trial was conducted. The eligible patients were divided randomly into two groups. Subjects were assessed at the beginning and the end of a two-week period during which they rinsed with 0.1% CPC or complex hibitane in addition to their usual oral hygiene procedures. The variation of PLI, SBI, GI, PD, pain, halitosis and adverse effects were observed before and after investigation. RESULTS: After 14 days of treatment, in the CPC group, the decreasing rate of PLI was 63.0%, the effective rate for gingivitis and periodontitis were 83.3%, 36.7% respectively, while those periodontal indices of control group were 49.5%, 50% and 16.7%. After statistical analysis, the CPC group had significantly higher effective rates on gingivitis than the hibitane group (P < 0.01), at the same time, the effective rate was significantly different between two groups on periodontitis (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The use of 0.1% CPC rinse is effective in treating periodontal diseases.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of Doxycycline slow-release on periodontitis therapy. METHODS: 30 patients with chronic periodontitis were chosen and divided into 2 groups randomly, these cases were given Doxycycline slow-release and Zinciodati Comp solution. PLI,GI,SBI,PD,AL,MD and clinical symptoms were observed before and after taking drug. RESULTS: The indose of PLI,GI,SBI,PD,AL,MD were decreased significantly after the use of Doxycycline slow-release gel (P<0.05),the effects of the Doxycycline was better than Zinciodati Comp solution (P<0.01), no adverse drug side effects were found during trial. CONCLUSION: The use of Doxycycline slow-release gel is one of the safe and effective chemotherapy on periodontitis.
