RESUMO

Increasing the carrier density in a Mott insulator by chemical doping gives rise to a generic superconducting dome in high temperature superconductors. An intriguing question is whether a second superconducting dome may exist at higher dopings. Here we heavily overdope La2-xSrxCuO4 (0.45 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) and discover an unprecedented reentrance of interface superconductivity in La2-xSrxCuO4 /La2CuO4 heterostructures. As x increases, the superconductivity is weakened and completely fades away at x = 0.8; but it revives at higher doping and fully recovers at x = 1.0. This is shown to be correlated with the suppression of the interfacial charge transfer around x = 0.8 and the weak-to-strong localization crossover in the La2-xSrxCuO4 layer. We further construct a theoretical model to account for the sophisticated relation between charge localization and interfacial charge transfer. Our work advances both the search for and control of new superconducting heterostructures.

Today, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease remains the most dominant chronic liver disease. Cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monosphosphate synthase (cGAS) is a cytosolic DNA sensor that catalyzes the synthesis of cyclic guanosine monophosphate, activates stimulator of interferon genes (STING), and releases type-I interferon cytokines to trigger immune responses. Exogenous or endogenous DNA acts as a cGAS ligand to activate the cGAS-STING signaling pathway, which plays a role in hepatitis, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, liver cancer and other diseases, and affects liver disease progression and metabolism through mechanisms such as autophagy. This article reviews the activation of cGAS-STING pathway and its molecular immunological role in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease progression.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study is to investigate the differential expression of Beclin1, HMGB1, p62, survivin, ERCC1 and BRCA1 protein in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and to evaluate the relationship between autophagy and platinum resistance of EOC patients during platinum-based chemotherapy with the protein expression. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Expression of Beclin1, HMGB1, p62, survivin, ERCC1 and BRCA1 were detected with immunohistochemistry in 60 patients, including 39 with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), 13 benign epithelial ovarian tumor tissue (BET) and 8 borderline ovarian tumor tissue. RESULTS: Beclin, p62 and ERCC1 expression was significantly higher in the EOC than the BET (p<0.05). No statistical significance was detected with HMGB1 or survivin expression among BET, borderline tumor and EOC (p>0.05). BRCA1 expression was lower in EOC than BET (p<0.05). The expression of Beclin, p62 and survivin significantly correlated with FIGO stage (p<0.05), while the expression of HMGB1 correlated with pathological type. For platinum-sensitive EOC patients, positive expression of Beclin1 and BRCA1 was lower, and positive P62 expression was higher than in platinum-resistant patients (p<0.05). BRCA1 expression was negatively correlated with Beclin1 and p62 expression (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Inhibition of expression of beclin1 may suppress autophagy to enhance the efficiency of platinum-sensitive ovarian cancer. HMGB1, survivin and p62 are implicated in the development of ovarian cancer. ERCC1 might be a potential predictive marker for neoadjuvant treatment in the early stage of ovarian cancer, and BRCA1, Beclin1 and p62 as a biomarker to predict platinum resistance and prognosis of epithelial ovarian cancer.

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between hepatitis B virus (HBV) covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) in the ovary and vertical transmission of HBV. HBV DNA and HBV cccDNA were assayed in the ovaries of 33 pregnant women who were positive for HBV DNA. The HBVM (HBV markers, including HBsAg, HBsAb, HBeAg, HBeAb, HBcAb) level and the HBV DNA content in peripheral blood of infants were measured. The overall positive rate of HBV DNA and HBV cccDNA in samples was 51·52% (17/33). The intrauterine infection rate of the infants was 12·12% (4/33). When HBV DNA and HBV cccDNA were both positive, the intrauterine infection rate of infants was significantly higher than when they were both negative (P<0·05). Levels of HBV cccDNA and the rate of positive samples were significantly higher in mothers with infants with intrauterine infection than in those without (P<0·01 and P<0·05, respectively). HBV can infect the human ovary and may transmit to the filial generation via the ovum.
