RESUMO

UNLABELLED: The authors report their own experience with percutaneous vertebroplasty, one of the so called--minimally invasive methods, used to treat a certain group of spinal lesions affecting the vertebral bodies. The paper contains a brief review of the current literature, basic problems, indications and operative technique. The authors remark, that insertion of the needle into the vertebral body gives an access for biopsy before cement injection. This procedure was realised in the case of diagnostic uncertainty. Technical details of transpedicular biopsy are described. The authors present 2 representative cases. FIRST CASE: a female with pathologic fracture of the Th7 vertebral body of osteoporotic origin. TREATMENT: combination of biopsy and vertebroplasty by percutaneous transpedicular approach. Second case: a female with cancer metastasis in L1 vertebral body, vertebroplasty was performed to support the anterior spinal column. Needle insertion was controlled either by radiofluoroscopy or by CT. The authors confirm pain relief related to vertebroplasty.

RESUMO

On the basis of digital subtractive angiography (DSA) arterial vascularization of lower extremities of six children with congenital hypoplasia of the leg has been studied. Four of our patients had fibular aplasia and anterior bowing of the tibia. One child had congenital bowing of the leg, and one had congenital pseudoarthrosis. An obstacle for contrast agent passage was found in every case at different levels of both anterior and posterior tibial arteries, in one case additionally segmental occlusion of popliteal artery was observed. These vascular anomalies combined with musculoskeletal hypoplasias are suggestive of developmental disturbances from intrauterine life. According to the authors they are responsible for frequent failures in surgical treatment of fibular aplasia with anterior bowing of the tibia and of congenital pseudoarthrosis of the leg.

RESUMO

On the ground of an analysis of 64 patients the authors present their opinion on the clinical usefulness of digital subtraction angiography in the diagnosis of cerebrovascular diseases. It is believed that this method provides in most cases information which are not necessary to be confirmed by other methods. Digital angiography has a lower resolution ability than conventional angiography but is less invasive and may be presently a good screening or control technique.

RESUMO

DSA (digital subtraction angiography) is a new, highly effective method for visualization of kidney vascular system. By means of a digital subtraction angiography unit the image of bones and soft tissues is blotted out, and a subtractive picture of contrasted vessels alone emerges. Intra-arterial DSA is a less invasive and more comfortable method when compared to conventional angiography. Only 2-4 ml of contrast medium is administered, thinner catheters being employed at the same time. The examination can also be performed through intravenous administration of contrast medium. The DSA unit Angiotron CMP was installed at the Department of Radiology, Military Medical Academy of Lódz, in 1984. In the present material a diagnostic DSA investigation was performed in 22 patients with renal tumours. In 21 of them the tumour was correctly diagnosed on grounds of pathological vascularization and the result was dubious in only 1 patient with benign tumour.

RESUMO

After an analysis of cases of tumours situated on the peripheral nerves treated in hospital the authors stress the usefulness of computerized tomography in the diagnosis of these tumours. By demonstrating the internal structure of the tumour, its anatomical relationships to the surrounding tissues the investigation provides many important and practical data in the surgery of peripheral nerves.
