BACKGROUND: Differentiating between intrinsic and prerenal acute kidney injury (AKI) presents a challenge. Here, we assessed the performance of the fractional excretion of urea (FEUrea) and compared it to the fractional excretion of sodium (FENa) in distinguishing intrinsic from prerenal AKI. METHODS: A thorough search was conducted in several databases until January 16, 2024. We included studies evaluating FEUrea, with or without FENa, for differentiating AKI etiologies in adults. We assessed the methodological quality using the QUADAS-2 and QUADAS-C tools. We performed a meta-analysis using the bivariate random effects model, with subgroup analyses to explore the impact of diuretic therapy on FEUrea, and direct statistical comparisons between FEUrea and FENa involving the subgroups with and without diuretics. RESULTS: We included 11 studies with 1108 hospitalized patients. Among eight studies (915 patients) evaluating FEUrea >35% for distinguishing intrinsic from prerenal AKI, the pooled sensitivity and specificity were 66% (95% CI, 49%-79%) and 75% (95% CI, 60%-85%), respectively. In a subset of six studies (302 patients) comparing FEUrea at 35% to FENa at 1% in patients not receiving diuretics, there were no significant differences in sensitivity (77% versus 89%, P=0.410) or specificity (80% versus 79%, P=0.956). In four studies, 244 patients on diuretics, FEUrea demonstrated lower sensitivity (52% versus 92%, P<0.001) but higher specificity (82% versus 44%, P<0.001) compared to FENa for the diagnosis of intrinsic AKI. CONCLUSIONS: FEUrea has limited utility in differentiating intrinsic from prerenal AKI. FEUrea does not provide a superior alternative to FENa, even in patients receiving diuretics.

In this study, we investigated the biological aspects and predation efficiency of 3 aphidophagous ladybird beetles, Coccinella novemnotata, Hippodamia variegata, and Coccinella septempunctata, on the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii, reared on cucumber plants (Cucumis sativus L. cultivar barracuda) under laboratory conditions. The developmental periods of C. novemnotata, H. variegata, and C. septempunctata were observed to be 16.00 ±â€…0.25, 16.00 ±â€…0.25, and 20.58 ±â€…0.40 days, respectively. The larvae of these ladybird beetles consumed an average of 218.93 ±â€…8.86, 254.77 ±â€…8.86, and 537.36 ±â€…10.49 aphids, respectively. Fourth-instar larvae were particularly efficient, consuming 53.68%, 52.68%, and 52.64% of total aphids for C. novemnotata, H. variegata, and C. septempunctata, respectively. Adult emergence rates were promising, with 91.67%, 100.00%, and 92.86%, accompanied by sex ratios of 63.64%, 53.84%, and 61.54%, respectively. Notably, a single female of C. novemnotata, H. variegata, and C. septempunctata consumed an average of 2,215.30, 2,232.00, and 3,364.50 aphids, respectively, over its lifespan. Coccinella septempunctata demonstrated the highest predation efficiency among the 3 species, suggesting its potential for biological control of A. gossypii in both open fields and greenhouses, promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Agricultural nanotechnology has considerable promise for addressing global agricultural production/security, biodiversity, and global warming issues. Current trends in publications and patents demonstrate that biotechnology technologies, particularly for crops, are being developed to improve agricultural productivity and disease management. In the current issue, we strongly advocate for the use of biosynthesized nanoparticles from a variety of sources, including plants, agricultural waste, and microbes, as a prerequisite for significant and in-depth study. Nanomaterials offer a wide range of practical uses in agriculture, including nanofertilizers, nanopesticides, nanoherbicides, nanosensors, and smart delivery systems for controlled agrochemical release. Additionally, nano-tools are employed for plant breeding and genetic manipulation. A thorough examination of the physicochemical soil properties of the agricultural fields where nanoparticles will be used will aid in minimizing their impact on plant and soil biota. Finally, and most importantly, we strongly recommend the inclusion of nanotoxicity, legislation, biosafety, and risk assessment as the top priorities when developing regulatory policies to address biosafety concerns. Starting today, thorough efforts must be carried out to advance and develop futuristic work based on recognized knowledge shortages.

Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGPN) is an uncommon chronic obstructive renal suppuration disease. Histopathologically, XGPN manifests as lipid-laden macrophage infiltration in renal microstructure and inflammation of an engorged non-functional kidney. Nephrectomy is the standard therapeutic treatment, and the overall prognosis is good. Here, we report a case of XGPN presented as flank pain in an otherwise healthy child.

Introduction: Vaccination remains underutilised worldwide with low vaccine uptake rates across the board with many adults remaining unprotected. Across the Arab world, attitudes towards vaccines vary but high rates of vaccine hesitancy have been found. This study aims to explore the adult vaccination attitudes and practices by physicians in the UAE, both before and after the introduction of the COVID-19 vaccines. Methodology: This cross-sectional, descriptive study used convenience and snowball sampling to collect comprehensive data from UAE physicians. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed in two stages: the first (pre-COVID-19 vaccines) between the months of June and October 2020 and the second between the months of November 2022 and March 2023. Results: 1000 responses, 500 from each time period, were collected. Nearly a third were family physicians or internists with more than 70% of the physicians working in governmental hospitals. 95% agreed that vaccines are safe in both cohorts but 74.4% reported not having enough time to advise about vaccines. 80.8% of physicians in the 2022 cohort reported safety concerns as the most common reason for patients to refuse vaccines. The most recommended vaccines were influenza (68.6%), Hepatitis B (66.0%) and HPV (61.4%), with pneumococcal coming in close at 57.8%. Family medicine physicians showed the highest utilisation of preventive practices across both cohorts. Nearly half of all family medicine physicians did not regularly evaluate both the influenza and general immunisation status of their patients. 54.6% of physicians reported having patients with VPDs in the last five years (not including COVID-19) in 2022. Conclusion: Physicians have overly positive attitudes, but their practices reflect a more superficial appreciation of vaccines and lack of initiative. Physicians need to adopt a pro-vaccine stance, armed with the proper tools and the right mentality and beliefs.

Introduction: The most recent American Urological Association (AUA) Guidelines advocated laser enucleation of the prostate (LEP) as a size-independent surgical option for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Despite its endorsement by AUA and the growing body of evidence supporting its safety and efficacy, the utilization of LEP remains limited in the United States. This study aimed to evaluate the utilization trends and perioperative outcomes of LEP compared with other surgical procedures used for BPH management. Methods: A retrospective cohort analysis was performed using American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program data from 2011 to 2020. Patients undergoing prostatectomy for BPH were identified using specific current procedural terminology (CPT) codes. Baseline demographic data, preoperative risk factors, and postoperative outcomes were collected. Multivariable logistic regression was employed to assess predictors of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) utilization and postoperative complications. Results: Out of 8,415,549 patients, 95,144 underwent prostatectomy for BPH. Procedures included HoLEP 5305 cases, transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) 57,803 cases, repeated TURP (re-TURP) 5549 cases, photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP) 23,739 cases, and simple prostatectomy 2748 cases. HoLEP utilization showed a gradual increase, from 4.8% in 2015 to 7.6% in 2020. Multivariable regression revealed that HoLEP selection significantly increased from 2016 to 2020 (odds ratio [OR]: 1.251, p < 0.001), and there was less likelihood of HoLEP selection for African American patients (OR: 0.752, p < 0.001). HoLEP had significantly lower complication rates, including urinary tract infections, blood transfusions, 30-day readmission, and reoperation. Conclusion: Despite underutilization, the adoption of HoLEP has slightly increased since 2015, rising from 4.8% in 2015 to 7.6% in 2020. The underutilization could be attributed to a lack of availability and the steep learning curve.

Background: Hepatitis C affects nearly 58 million people worldwide, the majority of whom live in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. There is limited data about hepatitis C disease or its knowledge in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Aim: This study assessed knowledge about hepatitis C and barriers to screening for it in the UAE. Methods: This exploratory, descriptive, cross-sectional study evaluated 1083 participants using a convenience sampling method. Participants aged 18 and above, literate in English or Arabic, were included in the study. The validated questionnaire was administered online and distributed across social media platforms from November 2020 to February 2021 and responses were analysed using Python. Results: Mean knowledge score was 11.83 (SD = 7.28). Knowledge was average with 57.52% (n = 489 of 850) of respondents achieving a moderate knowledge score, but poor awareness about treatment options were noted. Only 54.12% (n = 460 of 850) were aware that treatment was possible and 24.10% (n = 205 of 850) knew that there was no vaccine for hepatitis C. Field of work (P < 0.001), marital status (P < 0.001) and perceived knowledge (P < 0.001) were statistically significant predictors of knowledge score. Lack of insurance coverage for testing and limited knowledge about hepatitis C were identified as the most common barriers to getting tested. Conclusion: The UAE community has moderate knowledge about hepatitis C but a poor understanding of available preventive and treatment options. Targeted outreach programmes, particularly for high-risk groups, are needed to improve community awareness of hepatitis C.

INTRODUCTION: Prosthetic complications that occur to some implant prosthetics may require removal of the prosthesis for replacement or repair. Therefore, the presence of a technique to identify the type of dental implant is mandatory to provide the suitable components. Hence, the aim of the current study was to evaluate the accuracy of YOLOv8 object detection algorithm in automatic identification of the type of dental implant from digital periapical radiographs. METHODS: YOLOv8m-seg object detection algorithm was used to build a model to automatically identify the type of dental implant. A set of 2573 digital periapical radiographs for six distinct dental implants manufacturers were used to train the model. The outcomes were evaluated using precision, recall, F1 score and mAP. RESULTS: The overall accuracy of the YOLOv8m-seg model in terms of precision, recall, F1 score and mAP revealed values of 0.919, 0.98, 0.95 and 0.972 respectively. The average detection speed of the images was 1.3 seconds. The model was able to detect and identify multiple implants simultaneously on the same image. CONCLUSIONS: YOLOv8m-seg object detection algorithm is promising in identification of dental implants from periapical radiographs with high detection accuracy (97.2%), fast detection results and multi-implant detection from the same image. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This AI system can accurately identify the type of osseointegrated dental implants enabling dentists to provide the appropriate prosthetic components even if different implant systems are used within the same patient. This can save tremendous amounts of time, effort and cost for both the dentist and the patient.

During the COVID-19 pandemic and in the years after, adolescents' and young adults' (AYAs) usage of social media increased. Social media has been shown to influence both the physical and mental behaviour of AYAs. The Emirates' AYAs are among the world's heaviest consumers of social media. This study aims to explore the usage of social media networks by AYAs for sharing and looking up health information, as well as interacting with local health systems, with a special focus on doctors and social media. This cross-sectional, descriptive study was used to collect comprehensive data from Arabic- and English-speaking Emirati students in grades 7 through 12 and university students between the months of December 2022 and April 2023. A total of 876 out of 930 responses were included. Of the responses, 27.71% were university students, with another 46.46% in grades 11 and 12. Three-fourths had a hospital or clinic visit in the last 6 months and 79.11% had good health perception. Smartphones were the most commonly used devices, at 92.12%. A total of 74.7% reported being able to obtain useful health information, with 40% having had a health decision influenced by it. Posting information on social media was not common, with only 32% posting such content (most commonly mood-related). Health information on social media by health authorities was considered the most trustworthy, with celebrities being the least trustworthy. More than half of AYAs searched for a physician before a visit, and the majority would not mind having a rash picture being posted on a public website if consent (verbal or written) was taken. Social media can influence the various health decisions an AYA might take and which doctors they might choose to see. Physicians should consider their presence and the content they present on social media carefully.

One of the most hazardous diseases that influences human health globally is microbial infection. Therefore, bimetallic nanoparticles have received much attention for controlling microbial infections in the current decade. In the present study, bimetallic selenium-silver nanoparticles (Se-Ag NPs) were effectively biosynthesized using watermelon rind WR extract through the green technique for the first time. UV-visible spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) methods were used to characterize the produced NPs. The results indicated that the bimetallic Se-Ag NPs had synergistic antimicrobial activity at low concentrations, which helped to reduce the toxicity of Ag NPs after the bimetallic Se-Ag NPs preparation and increase their great potential. Se-Ag NPs with sizes ranging from 18.3 nm to 49.6 nm were detected by TEM. Se-Ag NP surfaces were uniformly visible in the SEM picture. The cytotoxicity of bimetallic Se-Ag NPs was assessed against the Wi38 normal cell line to check their safety, where the IC50 was 168.42 µg/mL. The results showed that bimetallic Se-Ag NPs had antibacterial action against Candida albicans, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella oxytoca, Bacillus subtilis, and Staphylococcus aureus with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 12.5 to 50 µg/mL. Additionally, bimetallic Se-Ag NPs had promising anticancer activity toward the MCF7 cancerous cell line, where the IC50 was 21.6 µg/mL. In conclusion, bimetallic Se-Ag NPs were biosynthesized for the first time using WR extract, which had strong antibacterial, antifungal and anticancer properties.

Body-contouring surgeries are known to improve the quality of life and body image of patients undergoing bariatric surgery. However, only a small number of patients choose to undergo body-contouring surgeries. This study evaluated the prevalence of body-contouring surgeries among patients who underwent bariatric surgery in Jordan, and identified the limitations encountered. This study is an observational multicentric cross-sectional study. A validated questionnaire was distributed to patients who had undergone bariatric surgeries between July 2017 and June 2021 at the University of Jordan Hospital and a bariatric surgery private center in Amman, Jordan. Inclusion criteria were based on the type of bariatric surgery (Sleeve Gastrectomy or Roux-En-Y gastric bypass) and the surgery date falling within the study period, with participation requiring the completion of an online questionnaire. Collected data was analyzed using various statistical tests, with a predetermined alpha level of 0.05 to determine statistical significance. Of 451 eligible participants, a total of 305 patients completed the validated questionnaire. Of these, 11 responses were excluded due to incomplete data. The analysis focused on remaining 294 participants who underwent bariatric surgery between July 2017 and June 2021, with only 7 participants (2.4%) electing to undergo body-contouring surgeries. The primary barriers to body-contouring surgeries reported by participants were cost (62.7%) and fear of postoperative complications (31.8%). Females exhibited a significantly greater desire for body-contouring surgeries (P = .000), which was also related to the percentage of total weight loss following bariatric surgery (P = .025). However, no significant associations were observed between desiring body-contouring surgeries and marital status (P = .734) or employment status (P = .319). The low rate of body-contouring surgeries in Jordan reflects the importance of strengthening the patient-physician relationship through targeted education efforts that emphasize the expected consequences of bariatric surgery and the available solutions to address them. Additionally, encouraging collaboration among caregivers, healthcare authorities, and insurance providers is necessary to develop more inclusive treatment plans that are tailored to meet the diverse needs and socioeconomic backgrounds of patients.

Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) have gained significant attention in nanotechnology due to their unique properties and potential applications in various fields, including insecticidal and antibacterial activities. The ZnO-NPs were biosynthesized by Eriobotrya japonica leaf extract and characterized by various techniques such as UV-visible (UV-vis) spectrophotometer, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and zeta potential analysis. The results of SEM revealed that NPs were irregular and spherical-shaped, with a diameter between 5 and 27 nm. Meanwhile, DLS supported that the measured size distributions were 202.8 and 94.7 nm at 11.1° and 90.0°, respectively, which supported the polydisperse nature of NPs, and the corresponding zeta potential was -20.4 mV. The insecticidal activity of the produced ZnO-NPs was determined against the adult stage of coleopteran pests, Sitophilus oryzae (Linnaeus) (Curculionidae) and Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Tenebrionidae). The LC50 values of ZnO-NPs against adults of S. oryzae and T. castaneum at 24 h of exposure were 7125.35 and 5642.65 µg/mL, respectively, whereas the LC90 values were 121,824.56 and 66,825.76 µg/mL, respectively. Moreover, the biosynthesized nanoparticles exhibited antibacterial activity against three potato bacterial pathogens, and the size of the inhibition zone was concentration-dependent. The data showed that the inhibition zone size increased with an increase in the concentration of nanoparticles for all bacterial isolates tested. The highest inhibition zone was observed for Ralstonia solanacearum at a concentration of 5 µg/mL, followed by Pectobacterium atrosepticum and P. carotovorum. Eventually, ZnO-NPs could be successfully used as an influential agent in pest management programs against stored-product pests and potato bacterial diseases.

Many stellar configurations, including white dwarfs, neutron stars, black holes, supermassive stars, and star clusters, rely on relativistic effects. The Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equation of the polytropic gas sphere is ultimately a hydrostatic equilibrium equation developed from the general relativity framework. In the modified Riemann Liouville (mRL) frame, we formulate the fractional TOV (FTOV) equations and introduce an analytical solution. Using power series expansions in solving FTOV equations yields a limited physical range to the convergent power series solution. Therefore, combining the two techniques of Euler-Abel transformation and Padé approximation has been applied to improve the convergence of the obtained series solutions. For all possible values of the relativistic parameters ([Formula: see text]), we calculated twenty fractional gas models for the polytropic indexes n = 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2. Investigating the impacts of fractional and relativistic parameters on the models revealed fascinating phenomena; the two effects for n = 0.5 are that the sphere's volume and mass decrease with increasing [Formula: see text] and the fractional parameter ([Formula: see text]). For n = 1, the volume decreases when [Formula: see text] = 0.1 and then increases when [Formula: see text] = 0.2 and 0.3. The volume of the sphere reduces as both [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] increase for n = 1.5 and n = 2. We calculated the maximum mass and the corresponding minimum radius of the white dwarfs modeled with polytropic index n = 3 and several fractional and relativistic parameter values. We obtained a mass limit for the white dwarfs somewhat near the Chandrasekhar limit for the integer models with small relativistic parameters ([Formula: see text], [Formula: see text]). The situation is altered by lowering the fractional parameter; the mass limit increases to Mlimit = 1.63348 M⊙ at [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text].

Diabetes mellitus is a burdensome disease that affects various cellular functions through altered glucose metabolism. Several reports have linked diabetes to cancer development; however, the exact molecular mechanism of how diabetes-related traits contribute to cancer progression is not fully understood. The current study aimed to explore the molecular mechanism underlying the potential effect of hyperglycemia combined with hyperinsulinemia on the progression of breast cancer cells. To this end, gene dysregulation induced by the exposure of MCF7 breast cancer cells to hyperglycemia (HG), or a combination of hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia (HGI), was analyzed using a microarray gene expression assay. Hyperglycemia combined with hyperinsulinemia induced differential expression of 45 genes (greater than or equal to two-fold), which were not shared by other treatments. On the other hand, in silico analysis performed using a publicly available dataset (GEO: GSE150586) revealed differential upregulation of 15 genes in the breast tumor tissues of diabetic patients with breast cancer when compared with breast cancer patients with no diabetes. SLC26A11, ALDH1A3, MED20, PABPC4 and SCP2 were among the top upregulated genes in both microarray data and the in silico analysis. In conclusion, hyperglycemia combined with hyperinsulinemia caused a likely unique signature that contributes to acquiring more carcinogenic traits. Indeed, these findings might potentially add emphasis on how monitoring diabetes-related metabolic alteration as an adjunct to diabetes therapy is important in improving breast cancer outcomes. However, further detailed studies are required to decipher the role of the highlighted genes, in this study, in the pathogenesis of breast cancer in patients with a different glycemic index.

Sustainable bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs) have attracted particular attention in the past decade. However, the efficiency and environmental concerns are associated with their synthesis and properties optimization. We report herein biosynthesis of bimetallic ZnO@SeO NPs based on green and ecofriendly methods using pomegranate peel extract (PPE). Pyrochemical ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy as well as TEM and EDX supported successful synthesis. Antibacterial, antifungal, and cytotoxic activities were indicative of biological worth of sustainable bimetallic ZnO@SeO NPs, exhibiting antibacterial activity compared to monometallic ZnO and SeO NPs. The values of Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of bimetallic ZnO@SeO NPs toward E. coli, P. aeruginosa, B. subtilis and S. aureus were 3.9, 15.62, 3.9 and 7.81 µg ml-1, respectively. Likewise, a promising antifungal activity against Candida albicans, Aspergillus flavus, A. niger and A. fumigatus was achieved (MICs: 31.25, 1.95, 15.62 and 15.62 µg ml-1, respectively). The cytotoxicity results suggest that bimetallic ZnO@SeO NPs are non-toxic and biomedically safe, evidenced by in vitro anticancer activity against human liver carcinoma (Hep-G2) cell line (with a half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) > 71 µg ml-1). The bimetallic ZnO@SeO NPs successfully biosynthesized using PPE showed a high potential for biomedical engineering.

Background: Most of the current stemless implants are using a central neck fixation design. Easytech Stemless replacements (FX Solutions®, Viriat, France) were developed promoting the idea of peripheral fixation of the stemless implant. The aim of this study was to analyze clinical and radiological results of this stemless TSA implanted for osteoarthritis (OA). Methods: A retrospective study of patients who received TSA with the Easytech® Anatomical Shoulder System (FX Solutions®, Viriat, France) for OA was completed at five clinical sites. Preoperative and minimum 2 year follow-up Constant Scores and X-rays were evaluated. Two independent orthopedic surgeons analyzed X-rays to assess anatomy reconstruction and component migration. Revisions and serious adverse effects were reviewed. Results: 129 patients were analyzed with an average follow-up of 37.47 months (24-54). Seven patients had a revision surgery and one of these resulted in the removal of the Anchor Base. The postoperative Constant Scores showed significant improvement with a mean raw Constant Score of 73.78 (38.0-100.0, mean increase 40.96, P < .0001) and mean adjusted Constant Score of 99.14 (42.20-133.30, mean increase 55.68, P < .0001). Radiographic review demonstrated that no modification of the center of rotation (COR) at minimum 24 months was greater than 3 mm and in comparison to preoperative radiographs, restoration of COR was lateralized in 25% of the cases, medialized in 61.5% and 13.5% had no change in COR. The mean value of the cervico-diaphyseal angle was 130.2° (114; 149) at 3 weeks and 129.9° (113.5; 144.0) at 2 years, demonstrating no significant difference (P = .16). 36 patients (35%) had calcar remodeling. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression found no significant factor, which was associated with the variation of the cervico-diaphyseal angle over time, center of rotation, calcar remodeling, or final Constant Score. The Walch B2 and C glenoid subset of patients (n = 13) had overall survival rate of 90.9% [95% CI 75.4-100.0] vs. 98.0% [95% CI 95.3-100.0] in other glenoid types (P < .01). Walch B2/C patients were 4.44 [95% CI 1.13, 17.6] times more likely to have a Constant Score <85 (P = .03). Conclusions: The peripheral fixation of the Easytech® Anatomical Shoulder System for OA provides excellent clinical results and imaging stability at minimum two year follow-up. Elderly age, gender and BMI do not affect the stability.

Metal nanoparticles are assumed to be a new generation of biologically active materials. The integrations between more than one metal are synergetic multifunctional features. In the current study, trimetallic copper-selenium-zinc oxide nanoparticles (Tri-CSZ NPs) were successfully mycosynthesized using Aspergillus niger through an ecofriendly method for the first time. The biosynthesis of the particles was characterized using physiochemical and topographical analysis. The physiochemical analysis included Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), which affirmed that the biosynthesis of Tri-CSZ NPs relies on the functional groups of fungal filtrates. Additionally, the UV-visible and X-ray diffraction patterns were proposed for the formation of Tri-CSZ NPs; moreover, topography analysis confirmed that the micromorphology of the nanoparticles were similar to a stick, with ends having a tetragonal pyramid shape, and with an average nanosize of about 26.3 ± 5.4 nm. Cytotoxicity results reveled that the Tri-CSZ NPs have no cytotoxicity on the human normal cell line Wi 38 at low concentrations, where the IC50 was 521 µg/mL. Furthermore, the antifungal activity of the Tri-CSZ NPs was evaluated. The antifungal results revealed that the Tri-CSZ NPs have promising antifungal activity against Mucor racemosus, Rhizopus microsporus, Lichtheimia corymbifera, and Syncephalastrum racemosum, where the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were 1.95, 7.81, 62.5, and 3.9 µg/mL, and the minimum fungicidal concentrations (MFCs) were 250, 62.5, 125, and 1000 µg/mL, respectively. In conclusion, Tri-CSZ NPs were successfully mycosynthesized using A. niger, which have a promising antifungal activity against fungi causing mucormycosis.

The agricultural industry could undergo significant changes due to the revolutionary potential of nanotechnology. Nanotechnology has a broad range of possible applications and advantages, including insect pest management using treatments based on nanoparticle insecticides. Conventional techniques, such as integrated pest management, are inadequate, and using chemical pesticides has negative consequences. As a result, nanotechnology would provide ecologically beneficial and effective alternatives for insect pest control. Considering the remarkable traits they exhibit, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are recognized as potential prospects in agriculture. Due to their efficiency and great biocompatibility, the utilization of biologically synthesized nanosilver in insect pest control has significantly increased nowadays. Silver nanoparticles have been produced using a wide range of microbes and plants, which is considered an environmentally friendly method. However, among all, entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) have the most potential to be used in the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles with a variety of properties. Therefore, in this review, different ways to get rid of agricultural pests have been discussed, with a focus on the importance and growing popularity of biosynthesized nanosilver, especially silver nanoparticles made from fungi that kill insects. Finally, the review highlights the need for further studies so that the efficiency of bio-nanosilver could be tested for field application and the exact mode of action of silver nanoparticles against pests can be elucidated, which will eventually be a boon to the agricultural industry for putting a check on pest populations.

Fungal nanotechnology provides techniques useful for molecular and cell biology, medicine, biotechnology, agriculture, veterinary physiology, and reproduction. This technology also has exciting potential applications in pathogen identification and treatment, as well as impressive outcomes in the animal and food systems. Myconanotechnology is a viable option for the synthesis of green nanoparticles because it is simple, affordable, and more environmentally friendly to use fungal resources. Mycosynthesis nanoparticles can be used for various purposes, such as pathogen detection and diagnosis, control, wound healing, drug delivery, cosmetics, food preservation, and textile fabrics, among other applications. They can be applied to a variety of industries, such as agriculture, manufacturing, and medicine. Gaining deeper comprehension of the molecular biology and genetic components underlying the fungal nanobiosynthetic processes is becoming increasingly important. This Special Issue aims to showcase recent advancements in invasive fungal diseases caused by human, animal, plant, and entomopathogenic fungi that are being identified, treated, and treated using antifungal nanotherapy. Utilizing fungus in nanotechnology has several benefits, such as their capacity to create nanoparticles with distinctive characteristics. As an illustration, some fungi can create nanoparticles that are highly stable, biocompatible, and have antibacterial capabilities. Fungal nanoparticles may be used in a variety of industries, including biomedicine, environmental cleanup, and food preservation. Fungal nanotechnology is also a sustainable and environmentally beneficial method. Fungi are an appealing alternative to conventional chemical methods of creating nanoparticles because they are simple to cultivate using affordable substrates and may be cultivated under diverse conditions.
