RESUMO

The main objective was to select salt tolerant lines at the cell level of Hatay region's black carrot (Daucus carota L. ssp. sativus var. atrorubens Alef.) using callus and suspension culture techniques combined with gamma rays. Hypocotyl explants of http://www.scialert.net/asci/result.php?searchin = Keywords&cat = &ascicat = ALL&Submit = Search&keyword = in+vitro (in vitro)">in vitro grown plantlets was used for callus induction. Effective mutation dose was determined by gamma radiation treatment at various doses (0, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 Gy) to black carrot calli after in vitro optimization steps. According to regression analysis, the number of plants regenerated from calli was found 8.36 Gy as effective dose. In the ongoing study, calli with 7 Gy, 8 Gy and 9 Gy gamma rays were multiplied by subculture for 5 times. Shoot induction was achieved in medium containing 1 mg L-1 BAP concentration. Average plant height, root length and branching number parameters of plants regenerated from calli were determined. Salt stress was applied to the plants acclimatized from in vitro to the climate chambers. changes in the amount of peroxidase (POD) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities of antioxidant enzymes and the changes in lipid peroxidation were revealed in leaf samples taken from plants that continued to live in a salty environment after the 14 days of the treatment. At the end of the study, salt tolerance increased in mutant plants have the plant number of 8-21, 9-19, 7-9, 9-2 and 9-8 compared to the control, and these were determined as possible mutant plants.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To address the gap in evidence related to molluscum contagiosum in children by focusing on demographic and clinical features as well as risk factors. Methods: The multicentre, prospective, clinical study was conducted at four hospitals in Ankara and Tokat cities of Turkey from August 1, 2014, to August 5, 2019, and comprised patients aged ≤18 years diagnosed with molluscum contagiosum. Data about demographics, day nursery and preschool attendance, the seasons when the disease occurred, any use of Turkish baths and swimming pools, history of personal/familial atopy, coexistence of diseases, disease duration, courses, number of lesions and anatomic localisation. Data was analysed using SPSS 19. RESULTS: Of the 286 patients, 130(45.5%) were girls and 156(54.5%) were boys. The overall mean age was 5.94±3.95 years. The median duration of the disease was 5 weeks (interquartile range: 3.00-12.00 weeks). There was a significant number of cases with family history 18(48.6%) in the 0-3 age group (p=0.027). History of personal atopy was significantly high in the winter season (p<0.05). Patients with >20 lesions had used swimming pools significantly more frequently than the rest (p=0.042). The trunk was the most commonly involved region 162(56.6%). CONCLUSIONS: Providing prospective data about demographics, clinical characteristics and risk factors of molluscum contagiosum in children will lead to appropriate preventive and therapeutic measures.

RESUMO

AIM: There are common findings between Behçet's disease (BD) and celiac disease (CD) based on similar immunological pathogenesis and there is only limited data available investigating the link between these two diseases. Furthermore, documented gastrointestinal (GI) involvement with marked upper GI symptoms in BD has been rarely reported. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of CD and to evaluate endoscopic findings in Turkish BD patients. METHODS: A total of 210 BD patients were included in the study. All patients underwent serological testing for anti-gliadin and tissue transglutaminase antibodies. Endoscopic examinations were performed in 190 patients who accepted upper GI system endoscopy. Multiple biopsies were taken from the second portion of the duodenum in patients with positive serological assessment for CD. RESULTS: A total of 4.2% of patients with BD had positive anti-gliadin and tissue transglutaminase antibody immunoglobulin A (IgA) and IgG antibodies. The prevalence of biopsy-confirmed CD was 1.05% in Turkish BD patients. The most common endoscopic findings of patients with BD were found to be antral gastritis, duodenitis and esophagitis. CONCLUSION: Although BD and CD share many similar clinical manifestations, our results did not support a possible association between these two diseases.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In a random pattern skin flap, distal flap necrosis occurs as a result of inadequate blood flow. Microneedling with a handheld roller device is a new treatment modality, especially for facial rejuvenation. In this study, the authors used microneedling to increase flap viability. METHODS: Forty adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into two groups of 20. The study group was exposed to McFarlane flap elevation and repositioning. The microneedling procedure was performed four times: 3 days before, on the day of, and on the third and sixth days after surgery. The control group was only exposed to surgery. The skin flap necrosis area was measured on the seventh postoperative day topographically by digital imaging and scintigraphy. After determination of necrosis area, the amount of neovascularization and number of vascular structures within the papillary dermal layer were counted histopathologically. RESULTS: The mean percentages of necrosis in the flap area as determined by the Digimizer analysis program were 37.51 ± 5.08 in the control group and 29.42 ± 7.37 in the study group. The mean percentages of flap necrosis of the control group and the study group as determined by radionuclide scintigraphy were 31.4 ± 4.1 and 22.8 ± 5.0, respectively. The comparison of flap necrosis percentages showed that the study group had significantly lower values (p < 0.001). Vessel counts in the study group also showed significant increase (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The authors' study showed that the microneedling method applied directly on the flap could be a faster, safer, and more effective therapy modality to increase flap viability.
