Aim: The aim of the present study is to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practices of parents toward their children's oral health and its influence on the dental caries status of 5-10 years old schoolchildren in Nashik, Maharashtra. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was conducted among parents of 5-10 years old school children who visited our hospital. A total of 504 children and their parents were included in the study. Clinical examination of children was done using DMFT and deft index. A self-designed questionnaire was given to the parents to assess their knowledge, attitude and practices toward their children's oral health. Statistical analysis was performed using EPI INFO version 6.04. ANOVA test was used to test the association between dental caries status and KAP. p -value < 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: The mean DMFT was 1.6 ± 1.5 and mean deft was 6.6 ± 3.4. Majority of the parents (64.9%) showed fair knowledge, attitude, and practices. There was no significant difference between mean DMFT/deft and parental KAP. Conclusion: Overall the parents in the present study had reasonable KAP about oral health of their children. Deficient areas of oral health awareness include importance of milk teeth and their treatment, regular dental visits, and dietary practices. Clinical significance: Oral health awareness programs should be directed toward parents and should emphasize on topics such as importance of milk teeth and their treatment, regular dental visits, and dietary practices. INTRODUCTION: Microleakage is an important consideration in primary dentition because the floor of the cavity preparation may be close to the pulp. The added insult to the pulp caused by seepage of irritants around the restoration and through the thin dentin may produce irreversible pulp damage. AIM: The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the sealing ability of three light cured (LC) resin-modified glass-ionomer cements (RMGICs) in primary anterior teeth. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Class V cavity was prepared on the labial surface of extracted primary anterior teeth which were then grouped and restored with Ketac N100, Fuji II LC, or Vitremer. Dye penetration test with methylene blue stain was used to record the microleakage. Depth of dye penetration was recorded in millimeters at the incisal and gingival margin using computer software. RESULTS: The depth of dye penetration at the incisal margin in the three groups was comparable, but at the gingival margin, Vitremer showed the least dye penetration, followed by Fuji II LC, and Ketac N100. The depth of dye penetration at the gingival margin was higher than the incisal margins in all the three groups. CONCLUSION: Among the three RMGICs, Vitremer can be considered as the material of choice for restoring class V cavities in primary anterior teeth. Periodic recall and recare is necessary when any of the three materials are used in clinical practice. HOW TO CITE THIS ARTICLE: Siddiqui F, Karkare S. RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Enterococcus faecalis are the most resistant and predominant microorganisms recovered from root canals of teeth where previous treatment has failed. Over the past decade, interest in drugs derived from medicinal plants has markedly increased. In dentistry, phytomedicines has been used as an anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, analgesic, sedative, and also as an endodontic irrigant. In endodontics, because of the cytotoxic reactions of most of the commercial intracanal medicaments and their inability to eliminate bacteria completely from dentinal tubules, the trend is shifting toward use of biologic medication extracted from natural plants. AIM: To compare the antimicrobial efficacy of newer irrigating agents which would probably be as effective or more and at the same time less irritating to the tissues than sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). The objective of this study was to compare the antimicrobial activity of saturated and diluted (1:1) hydroalcoholic extract of Aloe vera, garlic, and 5% NaOCl against E. faecalis using the commonly used agar diffusion method. RESULTS: Saturated hydroalcoholic extract of A. vera showed the highest zone of inhibition against E. faecalis. NaOCl, which is considered as gold standard, also showed higher zones of inhibition.
