RESUMO
Clinical specificity and biopsy material from bone foci were studied in 81 children aged from 4 months to 15 years with subacute and primary chronic hematogenic osteomyelitis (PCO). The poorly manifesting course of this pathology is stressed. It is expedient to take into account the morphological alterations in the pathological foci and clinical stages of the disease in diagnosing strategy of treatment of subacute and PCO.

The authors analyze 8 cases of congenital anophthalmia (CA). In all the cases this condition has been a component of multiple congenital developmental abnormalities; in 4 cases the defect has been nosologically diagnosed. Developmental defects of the central nervous system have been revealed in all the cases. Histologic studies have made it possible to single out, with due consideration for the normal embryogenesis of the eye, the following variants of CA: (1) complete anophthalmia, (2) partial anophthalmia--(a) purely neuroectodermal, (b) mixed mesodermal/ectodermal, (3) anophthalmia with cysts, (4) anophthalmia with intracranial synophthalmus. The possible mechanisms of teratogenesis acting in every case of CA are discussed.

The authors describe a rare case of this disease that has clinically manifested in a 12-days-old boy. At the age of 1.5 months a right-side nephrectomy for a supposed Wilms' tumor has been performed. Histologic examination has diagnosed congenital xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis. The authors put forward a hypothesis on the existence of primary forms of this condition not associated with persistent infections or urinary tract obstructions.

An observation of metachromatic leukodystrophy in a child is described indicating the main criteria for macroscopic and histological diagnosis. The authors believe demyelinization and loss of oligodendroglia in this disease to be due to the toxic effect of excess sulphatides and derivatives thereof.

Hyperlipemia was revealed in 3 of 26 patients who died from an acute destructive pancreatitis. The level of lipids was as high as 2000--5000 mg%. Hyperlipemia when combined with destructive pancreatitis should be considered to be a poor prognostic sign.
