RESUMO

Between 1965 and 1974, 1002 patients were treated on an in-patient basis for odontogenous soft-tissue infections. Abcesses were observed in 960 patients; inflammatory infiltrate, in 39 patients; a phlegmon, in 3 patients. The relation of male to female patients was 56:44. The 21- to 30-year-old age group was most frequently affected. Antibiotic therapy was administered over a period of weeks prior to admission in 87% of the patients. Operative procedures prior to admission had been performed on only a few patients.

RESUMO

Myxomata are benign, locally invasive, growing tumours which presumably arise from the connective tissue of dental papillae. They grow slowly and do not give rise to any symptoms. They are therefore of considerable diagnostic importance. They arise in the dentigerous part of the jaws and extend into the ramus of the mandible and from the maxilla into the maxillary sinus. X-ray shows them as mono- or polycystic spaces. The benign nature of myxomata leads to the temptation to operate conservatively. Excochleation and curettage have a recurrence rate of about 25%. Further excision is therefore required which, depending on the extent of the tumours, consists of partial resection of upper or lower jaw. Personal experience of 10 patients is given and discussed.

RESUMO

Catamnestic surveys of 371 children who suffered from abscesses during the past ten years (1965 to 1974) showed that type and location of the abscesses and their incidence in the various age groups are typical and differ from those of abscesses in adults. These results are discussed and compared with the data found in the literature.

RESUMO

In 12 patients with neurofibromatosis of the maxillofacial region distinct changes of the facial skeleton were found, which in localisation and extent largely conformed to the more or less wide soft tissue hyperplasias. In pronounced cases, a combined maxillo-zygomatico-temporo-mandibular hypoplasia was present radiographically. These skeletal changes hardly can be interpreted as pressure atrophy caused by the adjacent neurofibromatous tumours; more likely they are the result of complex developmental disorders. A more detailed explanation possibly will be obtained, when development and skeletal changes are controlled radiographically over a long period of time.

RESUMO

A special form is presented by means of which clinical findings and therapy of fractures of the visceral cranium are documented in such a way that the data can be fed into a computer and be evaluated. Like similar forms for cheilognathopalatoschisis and tumors of the jaw and face area the present form is meant for a special field or specific problems and is not to replace the traditional case history.
