Correction factors for determination of annual average radon concentration in dwellings of Poland resulting from seasonal variability of indoor radon.

The method for the calculation of correction factors is presented, which can be used for the assessment of the mean annual radon concentration on the basis of 1-month or 3-month indoor measurements. Annual radon concentration is an essential value for the determination of the annual dose due to radon inhalation. The measurements have been carried out in 132 houses in Poland over a period of one year. The passive method of track detectors with CR-39 foil was applied. Four thermal-precipitation regions in Poland were established and correction factors were calculated for each region, separately for houses with and without basements.

Types and causes of renal osteodystrophy in chronic (3-12 years, hemodialysed patients are presented. Tissue weakening due to osteodystrophy resulted in 6 extensor mechanism lesions in 4 patients. Two quadriceps tendon avulsions, 1 patellar fracture, 2 patellar tendon avulsions involving the tip of patella and 1 patellar tendon rupture occurred. Pathomorphology and course of surgical treatment has been discussed. Good functional results have been achieved.

[Parasitic arthropods from some species of wild mammals from middle Pomerania]. / Stawonogi pasozytnicze niektórych dzikich ssaków z Pomorza Srodkowego.

A total of 109 mammals belonging to 3 wild species: Cervus elaphus, Capreolus capreolus and Sus scrofa were examined post mortem after delivery by hunters to the warehouses of the "Jägerprodukt" company in Slawno and Osowo, and of the "Las" company in Slawsko (Middle Pomerania, Poland). Three species of ectoparasites were collected: Ixodes ricinus, Lipoptena cervi and Haematopinus apri. The highest frequency and the highest index of infestation with ectoparasites were observed in cause of C. elaphus. Lipoptena cervi was the most abundant species on C. elaphus and C. capreolus, and Haematopinus apri--on Sus scrofa.

The method of the experiment has been presented. It was found, that after 8 weeks of hydrocortisonum hemisuccinatum administration, 20 mg per day in two doses the braking force decreased by 15 per cent. The calculation of the measurements at 150 g of animal body weight proved to be useful.
