RESUMO

In this paper, we present a novel Deep Neural Network-based indoor localization method that estimates the position of a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) transmitter (tag) by using the received signals' characteristics at multiple Anchor Points (APs). We use the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) value and the in-phase and quadrature-phase (IQ) components of the received BLE signals at a single time instance to simultaneously estimate the angle of arrival (AoA) at all APs. Through supervised learning on simulated data, various machine learning (ML) architectures are trained to perform AoA estimation using varying subsets of anchor points. In the final stage of the system, the estimated AoA values are fed to a positioning engine which uses the least squares (LS) algorithm to estimate the position of the tag. The proposed architectures are trained and rigorously tested on several simulated room scenarios and are shown to achieve a localization accuracy of 70 cm. Moreover, the proposed systems possess generalization capabilities by being robust to modifications in the room's content or anchors' configuration. Additionally, some of the proposed architectures have the ability to distribute the computational load over the APs.

RESUMO

In this paper, we introduce a novel methodology for the analysis of task-related fMRI data. In particular, we propose an alternative way for constructing the design matrix, based on the newly suggested Information-Assisted Dictionary Learning (IADL) method. This technique offers an enhanced potential, within the conventional GLM framework, (a) to efficiently cope with uncertainties in the modeling of the hemodynamic response function, (b) to accommodate unmodeled brain-induced sources, beyond the task-related ones, as well as potential interfering scanner-induced artifacts, uncorrected head-motion residuals and other unmodeled physiological signals, and (c) to integrate external knowledge regarding the natural sparsity of the brain activity that is associated with both the experimental design and brain atlases. The capabilities of the proposed methodology are evaluated via a realistic synthetic fMRI-like dataset, and demonstrated using a test case of a challenging fMRI study, which verifies that the proposed approach produces substantially more consistent results compared to the standard design matrix method. A toolbox extension for SPM is also provided, to facilitate the use and reproducibility of the proposed methodology.

RESUMO

In this paper, techniques for time-frequency analysis and investigation of bat echolocation calls are studied. Particularly, enhanced resolution techniques are developed and/or used in this specific context for the first time. When compared to traditional time-frequency representation methods, the proposed techniques are more capable of showing previously unseen features in the structure of bat echolocation calls. It should be emphasized that although the study is focused on bat echolocation recordings, the results are more general and applicable to many other types of signal.
