Structural study of polymer hydrogel contact lenses by means of positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy and UV-vis-NIR methods.

A study has been conducted in order to determine presence of free volume gaps in the structure of structure of polymer hydrogel contact lenses made in phosphoryl choline technology and of the degree of defect of its structure. The study was made by means of positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy. As a result of the conducted measurements, curves were obtained, which described numbers of counts of the acts of annihilation in the time function. The conducted studies revealed existence of three components τ(1), τ(2) and τ(3). The τ(3) component is attributed to the pick-off annihilation of o-Ps orthopositronium trapping by free volume gaps and provides information about geometrical parameters of the volumes. At the same time, the UV-vis-NIR spectrometry examination was conducted on the same samples in the spectral range 200-1,000 nm.

[Analysis of treating strabismus and amblyopia in children older than six years of age for five years]. / Analiza leczenia zeza i niedowidzenia u dzieci powyzej szóstego roku zycia w okresie piecioletnim.

In 58 children aged 6-14, intensive therapy, using contact lenses, pleoptics and orthoptic training, was applied. A significant improvement of visual acuity depended on the systematic treatment and was observed already after 4 weeks.

[Conservative treatment of arterial occlusion with streptokinase administered intra-arterially]. / Zachowawcze leczenie obwodowej niedroznosci tetnic streptokinaza podawana dotetniczo.

The effectiveness of conservative treatment of the occlusion of peripheral arteries with streptokinase administered intra-arterially was assessed in 16 cases. In 11 cases the blood flow in the extremity was returned (68.7%). Good therapeutic results were obtained in properly selected cases.

A rare case is reported of coexistence of aortic abdominal aneurysm with sigmoid tumour. Emergency surgical treatment was instituted.

[Soft contact lens as an obturator in children with amblyopia]. / Soczewka kontaktowa miekka jako obturator u dzieci z niedowidzeniem.

The authors present the results of application of a soft contact lens in 16 children. The lens has been used for obturation of the master-eye in the treatment of amblyopia. Particular attention was committed to the improvement of the visual acuity, retinal fixation and position of the eyes.

[Practical value of intraoperative arterial angioscopy]. / Praktyczna przydatnosc angioskopii sródoperacyjnej tetnic.

Practical value of the angioscopy is discussed. This technique belongs to the currently used diagnostic methods applied during the reparative operations of the arteries. Emphasis has been put on the application of this technique during an operation. Angioscopy is safe and efficiently supplements other techniques.
