RESUMO

We studied the mechanism of action of cytostatics with the addition of lysine acridone acetate to evaluate the possibility of its use for improving the effectiveness of antioncogenic therapy in colorectal cancer. In Nude mouse model, the level of apoptosis (TUNEL) and expression of proteins CD95, p53, Bcl-2, histone H3, and Ki-67 (immunohistochemistry) were assessed in primary tumor biopsy specimens. It has been shown that cytostatic treatment led to stimulation of p53-mediated apoptosis and suppression of proliferation (Ki-67 expression) of tumor cells, and apoptosis level was increased in groups receiving lysine acridone acetate. H3 expression in the experimental groups was changed.

RESUMO

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disease with regular spontaneous seizures associated with neuroinflammatory, autoimmune and neurodegenerative processes. Approximately 40% of patients suffer from drug-resistant epilepsy, which leads to an increased risk of premature death, injury, irreversible brain damage, psychosocial dysfunction, and reduced quality of life. Apoptosis of neurons and glial cells of the brain is of great importance in the pathogenesis of epilepsy, especially drug-resistant epilepsy. Investigation of the mechanisms of apoptosis is necessary for the creation of a new generation of neuroprotective and anticonvulsant drugs, effective, in particular, in the case of drug-resistant epilepsy. The aim of the study was to analyze the mechanisms and role of apoptosis in epileptogenesis and the development of resistance. The review considers current data on the main mechanisms of apoptosis in epilepsy, especially its drug-resistant forms.

The dynamics of electron excitations associated with the initiation of laser-induced damage in hafnia and silica monolayer films are investigated using time-resolved damage testing involving a pair of 0.7 ps pulses with adjustable delay and laser pulse fluences. Results in hafnia indicate that the relaxation profile depends on the pump-pulse fluence (initial excitation), and as a result, it exhibits an effective lifetime that is variable. Analogous experiments in silica form two different types of damage morphologies that are observed on different ranges of delay times.

This paper presents genetic data on the full genome analysis of A/chicken/Tajikistan/2379/2018 H9N2 influenza virus isolated in September 2018 from chicken pathological material received from poultry farms of the Republic of Tajikistan and subtyped as H9N2 by serological and molecular methods. According to the results of hemagglutinin gene sequencing, the amino acid sequence of the cleavage site was RSSR/GLF, which is typical for low-virulent avian influenza virus. Phylogenetic analysis of the nucleotide sequence of a hemagglutinin gene fragment (nt 1-1539 of the open reading frame) showed that the A/chicken/Tajikistan/2379/2018 H9N2 isolate belongs to the Y280 genetic group of low-virulent A/H9 influenza virus, which is widespread in Southeast Asia. The complete nucleotide sequence of the viral genome was determined. Comparative analysis of all genomic segments revealed that the A/chicken/Tajikistan/2379/2018 H9N2 virus is closely related to an A/H9 influenza virus isolated in the Far East of the Russian Federation in 2018. Genetic similarity (97.1-99% identity in four out of eight viral genes) was found to isolates of an H7N9 subtype virus recovered in the Inner Mongolia and Hebei regions of China in 2017. According to the analysis of the predicted amino acid sequence of the studied isolate, the positions of some molecular markers indicate possible adaptation of the virus to mammals. Further genetic analysis showed that this virus belongs to genotype G57.

The modifications of multilayer dielectric (MLD) gratings arising from laser-induced damage using 0.6-ps and 10-ps laser pulses at 1053 nm are investigated to better understand the damage-initiation mechanisms. Upon damage initiation, sections of the affected grating pillars are removed, thereby erasing the signature of the underlying mechanisms of laser damage. To address this issue, we performed paired studies using macroscopic grating-like features that are 5 mm in width to reveal the laser-damage morphology of the different grating sections: pillar side wall, sole, and pillar top. The results suggest that, similarly to MLD coatings, there are two damage-initiation mechanisms corresponding to the different pulse durations.

We investigate the damage resistance of saturated and unsaturated liquid crystals (LC's) under a wide range of laser excitation conditions, including 1053-nm pulse durations between 600 fs and 1.5 ns and nanosecond pulse excitation at 351 nm and 532 nm. This study explores the relationship between the LC's resistance to laser-induced breakdown (damage) and the electronic structure (π-electron delocalization) of the constituent molecules. The laser-induced damage threshold at all wavelengths and pulse durations was consistently higher in saturated materials than in their unsaturated counterparts. The wavelength's dependence in the results suggests that the energy coupling process that leads to laser-induced breakdown is governed by the energy separation between the ground state and the first and second excited states, while the pulse duration's dependence in the results reveals the important role of electron relaxation between the excited states. A qualitative description was developed to interpret the experimental observations.

Owing to their relatively high resistance to laser-induced damage, hafnia and silica are commonly used in multilayered optical coatings in high-power laser facilities as high- and low-refractive-index materials, respectively. Here, we quantify the laser-induced-damage threshold (LIDT) at 1053 nm in the short-pulse regime of hafnia and silica monolayers deposited by different fabrication methods, including electron-beam evaporation, plasma ion-assisted deposition and ion-assisted deposition. The results demonstrate that nominally identical coatings fabricated by different deposition techniques and/or vendors can exhibit significantly different damage thresholds. A correlation of the LIDT performance of each material with its corresponding absorption edge is investigated. Our analysis indicates a weak correlation between intrinsic LIDT and the optical gap of each material (Tauc gap) but a much better correlation when considering the spectral characteristics in the Urbach tail spectral range. Spectrophotometry and photothermal absorption were used to provide evidence of the correlation between the strength of the red-shifted absorption tail and reduced LIDT at 1053 nm.

AIM: To determine the role of simple suturing of perforated duodenal ulcer. MATERIAL AND METHODS: There were 170 patients with perforated duodenal ulcer. Patients were divided into 2 groups: group 1 - 40 patients who underwent simple closure of the ulcer; group 2 - 130 patients who underwent Judd pyloroplasty with ulcerative defect excision. Abdominal effusion nature and severity of peritonitis were comparable in both groups. RESULTS: Mortality was significantly higher in group of simple suturing of ulcerative defect. CONCLUSION: Simple closure of perforated duodenal ulcers should be discarded.

Hafnium oxide thin films with varying oxygen content were investigated with the goal of finding the optical signature of oxygen vacancies in the film structure. It was found that a reduction of oxygen content in the film leads to changes in both, structural and optical characteristics. Optical absorption spectroscopy, using nanoKelvin calorimetry, revealed an enhanced absorption in the near-ultraviolet (near-UV) and visible wavelength ranges for films with reduced oxygen content, which was attributed to mid-gap electronic states of oxygen vacancies. Absorption in the near-infrared was found to originate from structural defects other than oxygen vacancy. Luminescence generated by continuous-wave 355-nm laser excitation in e-beam films showed significant changes in the spectral profile with oxygen reduction and new band formation linked to oxygen vacancies. The luminescence from oxygen-vacancy states was found to have microsecond-scale lifetimes when compared with nanosecond-scale lifetimes of luminescence attributed to other structural film defects. Laser-damage testing using ultraviolet nanosecond and infrared femtosecond pulses showed a reduction of the damage threshold with increasing number of oxygen vacancies in hafnium oxide films.

Stigmatization of people with drug and alcohol use disorders, its types and main causes of stigmatization have been analyzed. Main symptoms, types and consequences of stigmatization as for people with drug and alcohol abuse as well for society in whole have been described. Based on the complex of traits studied, the key causes and factors of stigma were analyzed and the variants of destigmatization of patients were suggested.

We demonstrate how a nanomechanical test identifies areas of mechanical field concentration as being comparable to areas where optical fields are known to be concentrated, in the special context of laser-induced damage testing (LIDT) of diffractive gratings of silica deposited on optical multilayers. The nano-indentation response of the diffraction gratings is measured in a new mode that allows for the extraction of a measurable metric characterizing the brittleness of the gratings, as well as their ductility. We show that lower LIDTs are positively correlated with an increased grating brittleness, and therefore identify a nanomechanical approach to describe LIDTs. We present extensive numerical simulations of nano-indentation tests and identify different deformation modes including stretching, shear concentration, and bending as precursors to mechanical failure in the nano-indentation test. The effects of geometrical inhomogeneities on enhanced stress generation in these gratings are specifically examined and addressed, and we show the agreement between nanomechanical testing and analytical interpretation of these inhomogeneities.

RESUMO

Based on the study of 43 patients with acute psychosis due to the use of synthetic cannabinoids, the authors showed that the inclusion of neuroleptic drugs in the complex therapy increases the efficacy of therapy. In choosing a neuroleptic it is important to take into account not only the psychopathological structure of psychosis, but also the severity of somatic and neurological disorders associated with psychosis.

RESUMO

299 patients with spontaneous pneumothorax were treated. All patients were divided in two groups. Patients of the first group (n=182) received thoracic puncture and/or drainage. The second group (n=117) has surgery, directed at liquidation of the source of pneumothorax, i.e., they received either atypical lung resection or subtotal parietal pleurectomy. The recurrent pneumothorax was registered in 24 (13.2%) patients of the first group and in 4 (3.4%) patients of the second. Authors state that radical surgical procedure for the spontaneous pneumothorax is an atypical lung resection with parietal pleurectomy. The use of active surgical tactics allows to decrease the number of recurrencies on 9.8%.

The study was undertaken to assess commercial thromboplastins for compliance to the WHO guidelines and to substantiate the validity of the results of a prothrombin test carried out using these thromboplastins. The test thromboplastins were shown to meet the WHO guidelines for assessment of thromboplastins. Over 5-8 years of the authors'participation in two external quality control programs (Federal External Quality Control System, Russia; 72 trials; NEQAS, United Kingdom; 60 trials), the international normalized ratio derived through the use of assessed thromboplastins did not differ from that established due to the interlaboratory consensus value of both external quality control systems. It is concluded that correct thromboplastin assessment provide accurate results of determination of prothrombin time.

102 tissue samples, resected during treatment of the perforated duodenal ulcers. The most pronounced fibroplastic and acute inflammatory tissue changes were registered in the immediate perforation zone and 0,5 sm above. At a distance of 1,0 sm these changes become less evident. Therefore, in patients with the perforated duodenal ulcer and palpable surrounding infiltrate less than 3,0 sm in diameter, the resection line should be no shorter than 1,0 sm away from the perforation.
