Optic characteristics of solutions of aromatic amino acids containing fluorine products were examined by adding iodine solution. Iodine exerted variously directed effects on the intensity of photochemiluminescence of tryptophan, thyrosine, and beta-indolacetic acid solutions. Extinction of the luminescence of beta-indolacetic acid accumulating in an organism during tumors may be used as an additional test for the differential diagnosis of cancer.

Investigations of the state of processes of lipid peroxidation (PLP) and the antioxidant system (AOS) of the organism performed in 267 elderly and senile patients have shown destabilization of the system "PLP-AOS". The correction of processes of lipid peroxidation with antioxidants improved the course of the postoperative period, decreased the amount of complications and lethality. It allowed a conclusion of the necessity to use antioxidants in the complex treatment of such patients.

Chemiluminescent characteristics of the antigen-antibody reaction, effects of gamma-globulin, iodine, hydrogen peroxide, and temperature on the type of the fluorescence of the complex were examined with the use of biomedical chemiluminometer and fluorescent spectrophotometer (Japan). The findings evidence that fluorescence is connected mainly with the tryptophan amino acid residues and with conformational restructuring of protein molecules. Changes in the intensity of chemiluminescence during the formation of a complex may be used for the detection of antibodies in the examinee's body.

The activity of free radical oxidation in patients with diabetes mellitus was investigated with respect to a type of diabetes using chemiluminescence. Clinical, laboratory and instrumental investigation of 80 patients with diabetes mellitus was conducted. The level of free radical oxidation in the patients changed as compared to that in the controls. Direct correlation between an increase in a degree of severity of disease and a rise of the level of chemiluminescence was discovered. Changes of lipid peroxidation in patients with diabetes mellitus permitted sound recommendation of drugs with antioxidant and membrane-stabilizing properties.
