RESUMO

Objectives: To develop a spiritual nursing care model to improve the quality of life of heart failure patients. Method: The cross-sectional study was conducted at two government hospitals in East Java, Indonesia, from August to November 2019, and comprised patients of either gender aged 30 years or above having classic heart failure symptoms of weariness, ankle swelling and dyspnoea. Standardised questionnaires were used to collect data regarding disease, psychosocial, spiritual, demographic and environmental factors as well as stressors, formation of meaning, coping strategy, spiritual wellbeing, and quality of life. Data was analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling. RESULTS: Of the 222 patients, 124(55.9%) were males and 98(44.1%) were females. The overall mean age was 57.7±9.96 years. Overall, 33(14.9) patients were suffering from heart failure for >5 years, 36(16.2) had been hospitalised >5 times, and 8(3.6%) had no health insurance cover. Psychosocial (T=2.110), spiritual (T=1,998) and environmental (T=2,019) factors had an effect on the ability to assess stressors. Disease (T=5.497), spiritual (T=3.596) and environmental (T=3.172) factors had an effect on spiritual wellbeing. Disease (T=7.553), psychosocial (T=2.230) and environmental (T=2.625) factors affected the quality of life. The ability to assess stressors affected meaning formation (T=3.293), which had an effect on coping strategies (T=3.863), which, in turn, had an effect on spiritual wellbeing (T=9.776), and that affected the quality of life (T=2.669). CONCLUSIONS: The spiritual nursing care model was found to be influenced by disease, psychosocial and environmental factors as well as by spiritual wellbeing.

RESUMO

Objectives: To review various quality of life questionnaires related to patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Method: The systematic review comprised search on SAGE, PubMed, ProQuest, Ebsco and Google Scholar databases for studies using quality of life questionnaires related to patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus published between January 2012 and January 2022 in either English or Bhasha language. Data extraction and assessment was done in line with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses checklist. RESULTS: Of the 25 studies reviewed, 23(92.2%) were in the English language. They were conducted in 17(51.5%) of the 33 provinces in Indonesia. The questionnaires used were 36-item Short Form 8(32%), EuroQol 5-dimension 5-level scale 6(24%), World Health Organisation Quality of Life-Brief version 6(24%), Diabetes Quality of Life 3(12%) and Diabetes Quality of Life Clinical Trial Questionnaire 2(8%). Variables associated with the quality of life of the diabetics included education, gender and age. The internal factors included glycaemic control, psychological condition, self-efficacy, perception of illness, self-care management, medication adherence, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and complications. The external factors included family support, medication counselling and pharmacists' intervention. CONCLUSIONS: Many instruments measure quality of life related to patients of diabetes mellitus. Countries with different socio-cultural forms have different quality of life perspectives, and the assessment tool should be picked accordingly.

Data obtained by giving questionnaires to respondents and analyzed using Regression Logistic Linier test with degree of significance of p < 0.05. RESULTS: The patients' perception of carative-caring behavior was influenced by their level of education (p = 0.019) and self-acceptance (p = 0.029). Interestingly, this study revealed that there was no relationship between patients' perceptions of nurse caring carative-caring behavior and patients' experience of hospitalization (p = 0.518) and there was no relationship between patients' perception and income (p = 0.407).
