RESUMO

Mycobacterium fortuitum group species is an atypical rapidly growing nontuberculous mycobacterium. It has been increasingly recognized as a potential pathogen mostly encountered in skin and soft tissue infections. Rarely, however, it has been associated with catheter-related infections, either central venous lines or peritoneal dialysis catheters. In this report we describe 2 patients maintained on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis who developed Mycobacterium fortuitum peritonitis and a catheter tunnel abscess, respectively. Molecular biology identification of the isolates was performed in both cases. The literature is reviewed regarding all similar cases.

RESUMO

The results of surgical treatment of 334 patients with diabetes mellitus with diabetic foot syndrome (DFS) were analyzed. The surgical intervention performance is based on analysis of pathogenetic form of affection, its depth and extension, type of microflora in the pyo-necrotic focus. We attempted to achieve surgical cleansing or partial foot amputation in every patient in order to preserve the support function of the foot. The use of differentiated approach to surgical treatment of DFS permitted to decrease the rate of high leg amputation from 17 to 7.2%, to decrease the duration of surgical treatment by 11.2 days.

RESUMO

In 31 patients with obliterating atherosclerosis of the lower limbs the heat irradiation changes under the influence of sound vibration with 2.5 kHz and 0.66 W/cm2 intensity were studied. The durable effect of the combined application of therapeutic treatment and "vibrotherapy" was noted.

RESUMO

By means of a polarographic method, the peculiarities of blood distribution in the tissues of the lower extremities in 34 patients with obliterative atherosclerosis and in 29--with obliterative endarteritis after sympathectomy were studied. In successful intervention, the prognostically significant increase in oxygen tension in the muscles at the level of crura and feet was noted. It is suggested to use this test under conditions of medicinal ganglionectomy with the aim of prognostication of the effectiveness of the forthcoming lumbar sympathectomy.

RESUMO

The authors studied the flow of heat and skin temperature of the legs and feet in 73 patients with atherosclerosis obliterans before and after lumbar sympathectomy. A regularity was revealed according to which numerical determination of heat emission in combination with thermometry in characteristic points of the leg and foot was a good test in determining the stage of the disease and a prognostic index of the efficacy of lumbar sympathectomy and rehabilitation of the patient in the immediate and late-term postoperative period.

RESUMO

A study of plasmocellular reactions of the bone marrow in alcoholism and alcoholic psychoses demonstrated an increase in the amount of plasmatic cells, a prevalence of mature plasmatic elements with distinctly marked basophilia and a reaction of clasmatosis. These facts indicate the functional preservation in alcoholism of the system of B cells, the derivatives of which are plasmatical elements; of an increase in the protein synthesis (including antibodies) as well as a prevalence of the so-called productive phase of immunogenesis over the adaptive.
