RESUMO

o-Hydroxy analogues, 1a-g, of the green fluorescent protein chromophore have been synthesized. Their structures and electronic properties were investigated by X-ray single-crystal analyses, electrochemistry, and luminescence properties. In solid and nonpolar solvents 1a-g exist mainly as Z conformers that possess a seven-membered-ring hydrogen bond and undergo excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) reactions, resulting in a proton-transfer tautomer emission. Fluorescence upconversion dynamics have revealed a coherent type of ESIPT, followed by a fast vibrational/solvent relaxation (<1 ps) to a twisted (regarding exo-C(5)-C(4)-C(3) bonds) conformation, from which a fast population decay of a few to several tens of picoseconds was resolved in cyclohexane. Accordingly, the proton-transfer tautomer emission intensity is moderate (0.08 in 1e) to weak (∼10(-4) in 1a) in cyclohexane. The stronger intramolecular hydrogen bonding in 1g suppresses the rotation of the aryl-alkene bond, resulting in a high yield of tautomer emission (Φ(f) ≈ 0.2). In the solid state, due to the inhibition of exo-C(5)-C(4)-C(3) rotation, intense tautomer emission with a quantum yield of 0.1-0.9 was obtained for 1a-g. Depending on the electronic donor or acceptor strength of the substituent in either the HOMO or LUMO site, a broad tuning range of the emission from 560 (1g) to 670 nm (1a) has been achieved.

RESUMO

In an aim to harvest UV-near-visible (360-440 nm) photons as well as to increase the morphology in the bulk heterojunction solar cells, we report herein the strategic design, synthesis, and characterization of a novel excited-state intramolecular proton-transfer dye, 3-hydroxy-2-(5-(5-(5-(3-hydroxy-4-oxo-4H-chromen-2-yl)thiophen-2-yl)thiophen-2-yl)thiophen-2-yl)-4H-chromen-4-one (FT), which bears two key functional groups, namely 3-hydroxychromone chromophore and trithiophene backbone and is then exploited into the blends of regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene) (RR-P3HT) and phenyl-C(61)-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM). FT acts as an excellent UV-near visible absorber, which then undergoes excited-state intramolecular proton transfer, giving rise to an orange-red proton-transfer emission that was reabsorbed by P3HT via a Forster type of energy transfer. Introduction of FT to P3HT/PCBM blend films also improves the morphology of phase separated structure, in particular, enhances the interaction of P3HT chains and the hole mobility. In this work, under the optimized condition of P3HT: PCBM:FT of 15:9:2 in weight ratio, the best performance of the device B-FT2 revealed consistent enhancements in the efficiency (eta) 4.28% and short-circuit current (J(sc)) 12.53 mAcm(-2), which are higher than that (3.68% and 10.28 mAcm(-2)) of the best performance of the control device B (P3HT:PCBM 15:9 in weight ratio) by 16 and 22%, respectively.

RESUMO

Treatment of 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)-2-(2'-pyridyl)pyrrole (fpyroH) with Pt(DMSO)2Cl2 and Na2CO3 in THF solution gave a light-yellow complex denoted as [Pt(fpyro)2] (1). A single-crystal X-ray diffraction study on 1 revealed a large conformational distortion around the platinum(II) center, which is attributed to interligand repulsion between the pyridyl groups and the CF3 substituents of the nearby pyrrolides. Reaction of 1 with N- and C-donor ligands such as acetonitrile, pyridine, isocyanide, and CO affords the adducts [Pt(fpyro)2(L)], L = NCMe (2), pyridine (3), CNBut (4), and CO (5), showing formation of one monodentate fpyro ligand by release of the strain energy. The variable-temperature 1H NMR studies showed a static structure for the N-substituted adducts 2 and 3, whereas the C-adducts 4 and 5 are shown to be more labile, displaying a pairwise exchange of bidentate and monodentate fpyro ligands in solution. Addition of ethanol to the coordinated CO in 5 during recrystallization is also established, affording an ethoxycarbonyl complex [Pt(fpyro)(fpyroH)(CO2Et)] (6), which was isolated as a crystalline solid and can be readily converted back to 5 and free ethanol upon dissolution at room temperature.

RESUMO

The tailoring reaction of the two adjacent nitrile ligands in cis-[PtCl(2)(RCN)(2)] (R = Me, Et, CH(2)Ph, Ph) and [Pt(tmeda)(EtCN)(2)][SO(3)CF(3)](2) (8.(OTf)(2); tmeda = N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine) upon their interplay with N,N'-diphenylguanidine (DPG; NH=C(NHPh)(2)), in a 1:2 molar ratio gives the 1,3,5-triazapentadiene complexes [PtCl(2){NHC(R)NHC(R)=NH}] (1-4) and [Pt(tmeda){NHC(Et)NHC(Et)NH}][SO(3)CF(3)](2) (10.(OTf)(2)), respectively. In contrast to the reaction of 8.(OTf)(2) with NH=C(NHPh)(2), interaction of 8.(OTf)(2) with excess gaseous NH(3) leads to formation of the platinum(II) bis(amidine) complex cis-[Pt(tmeda){NH=C(NH(2))Et}(2)][SO(3)CF(3)](2) (9.(OTf)(2)). Treatment of trans-[PtCl(2)(RCN)(2)] (R = Et, CH(2)Ph, Ph) with 2 equiv of NH=C(NHPh)(2) in EtCN (R = Et) and CH(2)Cl(2) (R = CH(2)Ph, Ph) solutions at 20-25 degrees C leads to [PtCl{NH=C(R)NC(NHPh)=NPh}(RCN)] (11-13). When any of the trans-[PtCl(2)(RCN)(2)] (R = Et, CH(2)Ph, Ph) complexes reacts in the corresponding nitrile RCN with 4 equiv of DPG at prolonged reaction time (75 degrees C, 1-2 days), complexes containing two bidentate 1,3,5-triazapentadiene ligands, i.e. [Pt{NH=C(R)NC(NHPh)=NPh}(2)] (14-16), are formed. Complexes 14-16 exhibit strong phosphorescence in the solid state, with quantum yields (peak wavelengths) of 0.39 (530 nm), 0.61 (460 nm), and 0.74 (530 nm), respectively. The formulation of the obtained complexes was supported by satisfactory C, H, and N elemental analyses, in agreement with FAB-MS, ESI-MS, IR, and (1)H and (13)C{(1)H} NMR spectra. The structures of 1, 2, 4, 11, 13, 14, 9.(picrate)(2), and 10.(picrate)(2) were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

RESUMO

A series of blue phosphorescent iridium(III) complexes 1-4 with nonconjugated N-benzylpyrazole ligands were synthesized and their structural, electrochemical, and photophysical properties were investigated. Complexes 1-4 exhibit phosphorescence with yields of 5-45 % in degassed CH2Cl2. Of the compounds, 1 showed emission that was nearly true blue at 460 nm with a lack of vibronic progression. These photophysical data clearly demonstrate that the methylene spacer of the cyclometalated N-benzylpyrazole chelate effectively interrupts the pi conjugation upon reacting with a third L X chelating chromophore. This gives a feasible synthesis for the blue phosphorescent complexes with a sufficiently large energy gap. In another approach, these complexes were investigated for their suitability for the host material in phosphorescent OLEDs. The device was synthesized by using 1 as the host for the green-emitting [Ir(ppy)3] dopant, which exhibits an external quantum conversion efficiency (EQE) of up to 11.4 % photons per electron (and 36.6 cdA(-1)), with 1931 Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.30, 0.59), a peak power efficiency of 21.7 lmW(-1), and a maximum brightness of 32000 cdm(-2) at 14.5 V. At the practical brightness of 100 cdm(-2), the efficiency remains above 11 % and 18 lmW(-1), demonstrating its great potential as the host material for phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes.

RESUMO

Highly uniform Fe3O4/SiO2 core/shell nanoparticles functionalized by phosphorescent iridium complexes (Ir) have been strategically designed and synthesized. The Fe3O4/SiO2(Ir) nanocomposite demonstrates its versatility in various applications: the magnetic core provides the capability for magnetic resonance imaging and the great enhancement of the spin-orbit coupling in the iridium complex makes it well suited for phosphorescent labeling and simultaneous singlet oxygen generation to induce apoptosis.
