RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cetobacterium somerae rarely causes infection in humans. Most studies on C. somerae have analyzed its role in the intestinal system of freshwater fish. METHODS: Herein, we report a case of septic shock caused by C. somerae in an elderly patient. RESULTS: Blood culture revealed growth of a gram-negative, rod-shaped anaerobic bacterium, which was identified as C. somerae through MALDI-TOF analyses. Although C. somerae is a resident species in the gut, it can cause systemic infection, which can be fatal. CONCLUSIONS: When C. somerae is identified, consideration should be given to the possibility of the infection originating from the intestinal tract.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the treatment efficacy, anatomical outcomes, and refractive outcomes of laser photocoagulation (LPC) and intravitreal ranibizumab (IVR) in the treatment of type I retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) at one-year follow-up. METHODS: This is a retrospective study on the treatment of type I ROP and aggressive ROP (A-ROP) using LPC or IVR in three Malaysian hospitals providing pediatric ophthalmology services from January 2019 to December 2021. Information on gestational age, birth weight, ROP zone and stage, and underlying comorbidities was collected. Parameters for evaluating treatment efficacy include the time taken to achieve complete regression, the regression rate, and the reactivation rate. The anatomical and refractive outcomes were evaluated at one year of adjusted age. RESULTS: This study included 92 eyes from 46 infants. Of these, 42 eyes received LPC as the initial treatment, while 50 eyes underwent IVR. A higher percentage of infants with cardiovascular disease were treated with IVR (66.7%) compared to LPC (40%) (p<0.05). However, there were no significant differences in gestational age, birth weight, respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, or intraventricular hemorrhage between the two treatment groups (p>0.05). Infants treated with LPC had a higher regression rate than those treated with IVR, but they were also significantly more myopic and had worse best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA). Conversely, infants treated with IVR experienced a significantly higher reactivation rate compared to those treated with LPC. Logistic regression analysis showed no significant associations between gestational age, birth weight, plus disease, zone 1 ROP, and the choice of initial treatment with the reactivation of ROP. CONCLUSIONS: Both LPC and IVR effectively treat type I ROP in infants, with IVR yielding superior anatomical and refractive outcomes and LPC offering a lower reactivation rate. Understanding individual patient characteristics is crucial for treatment selection.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Cabozantinib and nivolumab (CaboNivo) alone or with ipilimumab (CaboNivoIpi) have shown promising efficacy and safety in patients with metastatic urothelial carcinoma (mUC), metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC), and rare genitourinary (GU) tumors in a dose-escalation phase I study. We report the final data analysis of the safety, overall response rate (ORR), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) of the phase I patients and seven expansion cohorts. METHODS: This is an investigator-initiated, multicenter, phase I trial. CaboNivo doublet expansion cohorts included (1) mUC, (2) mRCC, and (3) adenocarcinoma of the bladder/urachal; CaboNivoIpi triplet expansion cohorts included (1) mUC, (2) mRCC, (3) penile cancer, and (4) squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder and other rare GU tumors (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT02496208). RESULTS: The study enrolled 120 patients treated with CaboNivo (n = 64) or CaboNivoIpi (n = 56), with a median follow-up of 49.2 months. In 108 evaluable patients (CaboNivo n = 59; CaboNivoIpi n = 49), the ORR was 38% (complete response rate 11%) and the median duration of response was 20 months. The ORR was 42.4% for mUC, 62.5% for mRCC (n = 16), 85.7% for squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder (n = 7), 44.4% for penile cancer (n = 9), and 50.0% for renal medullary carcinoma (n = 2). Grade ≥ 3 treatment-related adverse events occurred in 84% of CaboNivo patients and 80% of CaboNivoIpi patients. CONCLUSION: CaboNivo and CaboNivoIpi demonstrated clinical activity and safety in patients with multiple GU malignancies, especially clear cell RCC, urothelial carcinoma, and rare GU tumors such as squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder, small cell carcinoma of the bladder, adenocarcinoma of the bladder, renal medullary carcinoma, and penile cancer.

RESUMO

In this study,we developed and validated the clinical significance of senescence SASP related gene signature and explored its association with radiation therapy (RT) in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). First, we searched the three published review literature associated with senescence associated secretory phenotype (SASP) and selected all 81 genes to develop SASP related gene signature. Then, 81 SASP related genes were adapted to gene expression dataset from TCGA. HNSCC patients of TCGA were classified into clusters 1 and 2 via unsupervised clustering according to SASP related gene signature. Kaplan-Meier plot survival analysis showed that cluster 1 had a poorer prognosis than cluster 2 in 5-years overall survival and recurrence-free survival. Similarly, cluster 1 showed a worse prognosis than cluster 2 in three validation cohorts. (E-MTAB-8588, FHCRC and KHU). Cox proportional hazards regression observed that the senescence SASP related signature was an independent prognostic factor for HNSCC patients. We also established a nomogram using a relevant clinical parameter and a risk score. Time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was carried out to assess the accuracy of the prognostic risk model and nomogram. Senescence SASP related gene signature was associated with the response to RT. Therefore, subsequent, in vitro experiments further validated the association between senescence SASP related gene signature and RT in HNSCC. In conclusion, we developed a senescence SASP related gene signature, which could predict survival of HNSCC patients, and this gene signature provides new clinical evidence for the accurate diagnosis and targeted RT of HNSCC.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: Adenomatous polyposis (AP) is a genetic disorder characterized by the occurrence of numerous adenomatous polyps in the colon and rectum and can be classified into classical AP and attenuated AP (AAP). AAP is diagnosed when the number of observed adenomas is between 10 and 99. The detection of AAP is significantly increasing mainly due to the improvement of the imaging technique and application of the screening program for colorectal cancer detection. Currently, the germline variations of the APC and MUTYH genes are reported as the main cause of classical AP. However, the underlying genetic basis of AAP is not well understood. In this study, we report 2 cases of AAP with MSH6 variations. PATIENT CONCERNS: Both patients visited the hospital after multiple polyps were detected during colonoscopies conducted as part of their health checkups. DIAGNOSES: The 2 patients were diagnosed with AAP through colonoscopic examination at our hospital. INTERVENTIONS: The 2 received genetic consultation; and, for follow-up purposes, both patients agreed to be tested for an underlying genetic condition through next generation sequencing. And germline MSH6 variations were detected in both AAP patients. OUTCOMES: There was no recurrence for both patients for 3 years follow-up. LESSONS: Minor portion of AAP can cause by genetic mutation in MSH6, and further research is needed.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT: Local ablation therapy, encompassing radiofrequency ablation (RFA), microwave ablation, and cryoablation, has emerged as a crucial strategy for managing small hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs), complementing liver resection and transplantation. This review delves into the clinical significance of tumor size, location, and biology in guiding treatment decisions for HCCs undergoing local ablation therapy, with a focus on tumors smaller than 3 cm. Tumor size significantly influences treatment outcomes, with larger tumors associated with poorer local tumor control due to challenges in creating sufficient ablative margins and the likelihood of microvascular invasion and peritumoral satellite nodules. Advanced ablation techniques such as centripetal or no-touch RFA using multiple electrodes, cryoablation using multiple cryoprobes, and microwave ablation offer diverse options for HCC treatment. Notably, no-touch RFA demonstrates superior local tumor control compared with conventional RFA by achieving sufficient ablative margins, making it particularly promising for hepatic dome lesions or tumors with aggressive biology. Laparoscopic RFA proves beneficial for treating anterior subphrenic HCCs, whereas artificial pleural effusion-assisted RFA is effective for controlling posterior subphrenic HCCs. However, surgical resection generally offers better survival outcomes for periportal HCCs compared with RFA. Cryoablation exhibits a lower incidence of vascular or biliary complications than RFA for HCCs adjacent to perivascular or periductal regions. Additionally, aggressive tumor biology, such as microvascular invasion, can be predicted using magnetic resonance imaging findings and serum tumor markers. Aggressive HCC subtypes frequently exhibit Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System M features on magnetic resonance imaging, aiding in prognosis. A comprehensive understanding of tumor size, location, and biology is imperative for optimizing the benefits of local ablation therapy in managing HCCs.

RESUMO

Smoking remains a significant health problem in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study compared intracellular Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i) in microglia, neurons, and astrocytes in the presence of high glucose (HG) and nicotine and evaluated the effects of Lavandula angustifolia Mill. essential oil (LEO) on this process. [Ca2+]i concentrations were measured by monitoring the fluorescence of Fura-2 acetoxymethyl ester. Treatment with HG and nicotine significantly increased [Ca2+]i in both microglia and neurons through Ca2+ influx from extracellular sources. This increased Ca2+ influx in microglia, however, was significantly reduced by LEO, an effect partially inhibited by the Na+/Ca2+ exchanger (NCX) inhibitor Ni2+. Ca2+ influx in neuron-like cells pretreated with HG plus nicotine was also significantly decreased by LEO, an effect partially inhibited by the L-type Ca2+ channel blocker nifedipine and the T-type Ca2+ channel blocker mibefradil. LEO or a two-fold increase in the applied number of astrocytes attenuated Ca2+ influx caused by high glucose and nicotine in the mixed cells of the microglia, neuron-like cells and astrocytes. These findings suggest that LEO can regulate HG and nicotine-induced Ca2+ influx into microglia and neurons through two distinct mechanisms.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) pose significant risks to both maternal and fetal health, contributing to global morbidity and mortality. Management of HDP is complex, particularly because of concerns regarding potential negative effects on utero-placental circulation and limited therapeutic options due to fetal safety. Our study investigates whether blood pressure monitoring through a mobile health (mHealth) application can aid in addressing the challenges of blood pressure management in pregnant individuals with HDP. Additionally, we aim to assess whether this intervention can improve short-term maternal and fetal outcomes and potentially mitigate long-term cardiovascular consequences. METHODS: This prospective, randomized, single-center trial will include 580 pregnant participants who meet the HDP criteria or who have a heightened risk of pregnancy-related hypertension due to factors such as multiple pregnancies, obesity, diabetes, or a history of HDP in prior pregnancies leading to preterm birth. Participants will be randomized to either the mHealth intervention group or the standard care group. The primary endpoint is the difference in systolic blood pressure from enrollment to 1 month after childbirth. The secondary endpoints include various blood pressure parameters, obstetric outcomes, body mass index trajectory, step counts, mood assessment, and drug adherence. CONCLUSIONS: This study emphasizes the potential of mHealth interventions, such as the Heart4U application, to improve blood pressure management in pregnant individuals with HDP. By leveraging technology to enhance engagement, communication, and monitoring, this study aims to positively impact maternal, fetal, and postpartum outcomes associated with HDP. This innovative approach demonstrates the potential of personalized technology-driven solutions for managing complex health conditions. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The medial canthal region features a complex three-dimensional and internal anatomical structure. When reconstructing a defect in this area, it is crucial to consider both functional and aesthetic aspects, which presents significant challenges. Generally, local flaps are preferred for reconstruction; however, skin grafts can be used when local flaps are not feasible. Therefore, we conducted a comparative analysis of surgical outcomes skin grafts when local flaps were not feasible, to determine which surgical method is more effective for medial canthal region reconstruction. METHODS: Twenty-five patients who underwent medial canthal region reconstruction using skin grafts or local flaps from 2002 to 2021 were enrolled. Patient information was obtained from medical records. Five plastic surgeons evaluated the surgical outcomes based on general appearance, color, contour, and symmetry. RESULTS: Skin grafts were used in eight patients and local flaps were used in 13. Combined reconstructions were employed in four cases. Minor complications arose in four cases but improved with conservative treatment. No major complications were reported. Recurrence of the skin cancer was noted in two cases. All categories showed higher scores for the local flap compared to both skin graft and combined reconstruction; however, the differences were not statistically significant respectively. CONCLUSION: The choice of appropriate surgical methods for reconstructing defects in the medial canthal region depends on various factors, including the patient's overall health, the size and depth of the defect, and the degree of involvement of surrounding structures. When a local flap is not feasible, a skin graft may provide favorable surgical outcomes. Therefore, a skin graft can serve as a viable alternative for reconstructing the medial canthal region.

RESUMO

We present the design, synthesis, and evaluation of novel metal-free photosensitizers based on D-π-A structures featuring tri-arylamine as an electron donor, cyanoacrylic acid as an anchoring group, and substituted derivative π-bridges including 9,9-dimethyl-9H-fluorene, benzo[b]thiophene, or naphtho [1,2-b:4,3-b']dithiophene. The aim of the current research is to unravel the relationship between chemical structure and photovoltaic performance in solar cell applications by investigating the properties of these organic sensitizers. The newly developed photosensitizers displayed variations in HOMO-LUMO energy gaps and photovoltaic performances due to their distinct π-bridge structures and exhibited diverse spectral responses ranging from 343 to 490 nm. The t-shaped and short linear photosensitizers demonstrated interesting behaviors in dye-sensitized solar cells, such as the effect of the molecular size in electron recombination. The study showed that a t-shaped photosensitizer with a bulky structure reduced electron recombination, while short linear photosensitizers with a smaller molecular size resulted in a higher open-circuit voltage value and enhanced photovoltaic performance. Impedance analysis further supported the findings, highlighting the influence of dye loading and I3- ion surface passivation on the overall performance of solar cells. The molecular design methodology proposed in this study enables promising photovoltaic performance in solar cells, addressing the demand for highly efficient, metal-free organic photosensitizers.

RESUMO

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) have been a significant advancement in cancer therapy, particularly for urothelial cancer (UC). These innovative treatments, originally developed for hematological malignancies, use target-specific monoclonal antibodies linked to potent cytotoxic agents. This rational drug design efficiently delivers cancer cell-killing agents to cells expressing specific surface proteins, which are abundant in UC owing to their high antigen expression. UC is an ideal candidate for ADC therapy, as it enhances on-target efficacy while mitigating systemic toxicity. In recent years, considerable progress has been made in understanding the biology and mechanisms of tumor progression in UC. However, despite the introduction of immune checkpoint inhibitors, advanced UC is characterized by rapid progression and poor survival rates. Targeted therapies that have been developed include the anti-nectin 4 ADC enfortumab vedotin and the fibroblast growth factor receptor inhibitor erdafitinib. Enfortumab vedotin has shown efficacy in prospective studies in patients with advanced UC, alone and in combination with pembrolizumab. The anti-Trop-2 ADC sacituzumab govitecan has also demonstrated effectiveness in single-armed studies. This review highlights the mechanism of action of ADCs, their application in mono- and combination therapies, primary mechanisms of resistance, and future perspectives for their clinical use in UC treatment. ADCs have proven to be an increasingly vital component of the therapeutic landscape for urothelial carcinoma, filling a gap in the treatment of this progressive disease.

RESUMO

Pituitary adenoma-induced excess endocrine growth hormone (GH) secretion can lead to breast cancer development and metastasis. Herein, we used an acromegaly mouse model to investigate the role of excess endocrine GH on triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) growth and metastasis. Additionally, we aimed to elucidate the molecular mechanism of transcription factor 20 (TCF20)/nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) signaling-mediated aggressiveness and metastasis of TNBC. Excess endocrine GH induced TCF20 activates the transcription of NRF2 and NRF2-target genes to facilitate TNBC metastasis. Inhibition of GH receptor (GHR) and TCF20 activity using the GHR antagonist or small-interfering RNA-induced gene knockdown resulted in reduced tumor volume and metastasis, suggesting that excess endocrine GH stimulates TCF20/NRF2 pathways in TNBC and promotes metastasis to the lung. GHR inhibitors present an effective therapeutic strategy to prevent TNBC cell growth and metastasis. Our findings revealed functional and mechanistic roles of the GH-TCF20-NRF2 signaling axis in TBNC progression.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Wheat allergy is one of the most prevalent allergens in Korea, decreasing quality of life and causing nutritional repercussions. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of the home-based wheat oral immunotherapy (OIT) using wheat noodles in children with a wheat allergy. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study involving 72 children aged 3 to 17 years diagnosed with a wheat allergy. Patients received wheat OIT using wheat noodles (n = 50) and were compared with a historical control group (n = 22). Baseline characteristics, adverse events, and immunological changes were assessed. Predictors of successful desensitization were identified using logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Among 50 patients completing the up-dosing phase, 82.0% achieved desensitization to 2,400 mg of wheat protein, compared to 4.5% in the control group (p < 0.001). During the up-dosing period, the median number of adverse reactions per person was 2, and anaphylaxis occurred in 30.0% (15/50). However, there were no life-threatening adverse events. In multivariable analysis, the presence of asthma (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 8.88; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.10-71.97; p = 0.041) and a higher ratio of specific IgE (sIgE) to ω-5-gliadin and total IgE (aOR 19.09, 95%CI 1.21-300.80, p = 0.036) were significantly associated with treatment outcomes of wheat OIT. CONCLUSION: Our study showed the safety and efficacy of home-based wheat OIT using boiled noodles in Korean children with wheat allergies. Careful consideration is warranted for patients with elevated baseline sIgE to ω-5-gliadin to total IgE ratio and a history of asthma.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In 2023, the concept of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) was introduced as an alternative to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). We aimed to assess the quantity and quality of skeletal muscle using each of these diagnostic classifications. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 18 154 participants (11 551 [63.6%] men and 6603 [36.4%] women, mean age 53.0 ± 8.8). The participants were classified into four categories: neither steatotic liver disease (SLD), NAFLD only, MASLD only or both SLDs. An appendicular skeletal muscle mass adjusted for body mass index of <0.789 for men and <0.512 for women was defined as sarcopenia. The total abdominal muscle area (TAMA) at the L3 vertebral level was segmented into normal-attenuation muscle area (NAMA), low-attenuation muscle area and intermuscular/intramuscular adipose tissue. Myosteatosis was defined by a T-score < -1.0 of the NAMA/TAMA index, which was calculated by dividing the NAMA by the TAMA and multiplying by 100. RESULTS: Using subjects with neither SLD as a reference, the multivariable-adjusted odds ratios (ORs) for sarcopenia were significantly increased in those with MASLD, with adjusted ORs (95% confidence interval [CI]) of 2.62 (1.94-3.54) in the MASLD-only group and 2.33 (1.92-2.82) in the both SLDs group, while the association was insignificant in those with NAFLD only (adjusted OR [95% CI]: 2.16 [0.67-6.94]). The OR for myosteatosis was also elevated in the MASLD groups, with an OR (95% CI) of 1.75 (1.52-2.02) in subjects with MASLD only and 1.70 (1.57-1.84) in those with both SLDs, while it was slightly decreased in subjects with NAFLD only (0.52 [0.29-0.95]). CONCLUSIONS: Employing the MASLD concept rather than that of the NAFLD proved to be more effective in distinguishing individuals with reduced muscle mass and compromised muscle quality.

RESUMO

A low-cost and indium-tin-oxide (ITO)-free electrode-based flexible perovskite solar cell (PSC) that can be fabricated by roll-to-roll processing shall be developed for successful commercialization. High processing temperatures present a challenge for the PSC fabrication on flexible substrates. The most efficient planar n-i-p PSC structures, which utilize a metal oxide as an electron transport layer (ETL), necessitate high annealing temperatures. In addition, the device performance deteriorates owing to the migration of halogen ions, which causes the oxidation of the metal electrodes. These drawbacks conflict with the development of highly efficient flexible PSCs fabricated on ITO-free transparent electrodes. Herein, an efficient ETL material that enables low-temperature processing is presented. Tin dioxide (SnO2) is modified by (sulfobetaine-N,N-dimethylamino)propyl naphthalene diimide (NDI-B) and used as an ETL. The NDI-B effectively reduces the interfacial nonradiative recombination between the ETL and perovskite and suppresses the ion migration by passivating oxygen-vacancy defects in SnO2 and strongly interacting with halogen ions, respectively. Based on the NDI-B-blended SnO2 ETL, a record PCE of 17.48% is achieved in the ITO-free flexible PSC fabricated at low temperature.

RESUMO

Porous silicon dioxide (SiO2)/poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVdF), SiO2/PVdF, and fibrous composite membranes were prepared by electrospinning a blend solution of a SiO2 sol-gel/PVdF. The nanofibers of the SiO2/PVdF (3/7 wt. ratio) blend comprised skin and nanofibrillar structures which were obtained from the SiO2 component. The thickness of the SiO2 skin layer comprising a thin skin layer could be readily tuned depending on the weight proportions of SiO2 and PVdF. The composite membrane exhibited a low thermal shrinkage of ~3% for 2 h at 200 °C. In the prototype cell comprising the composite membrane, the alternating current impedance increased rapidly at ~225 °C, and the open-circuit voltage steeply decreased at ~170 °C, almost becoming 0 V at ~180 °C. After being exposed at temperatures of >270 °C, its three-dimensional network structure was maintained without the closure of the pore structure by a melt-down of the membrane.

RESUMO

Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the educational needs of interns and residents in Korean medicine as the first step in developing an education program to improve their research competencies. Methods: A mixed-method design, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, was used to investigate the educational needs for research competencies among interns and residents working in Korean medicine hospitals nationwide. Data were collected through online surveys and online focus group discussions (FGDs), and processed using descriptive statistical analysis and thematic analysis. The study results were derived by integrating survey data and FGD outcomes. Results: In total, 209 interns and residents participated in the survey, and 11 individuals participated in two rounds of FGDs. The majority of participants felt a lack of systematic education in research and academic writing in postgraduate medical education and highlighted the need for nationally accessible education due to significant disparities in the educational environment across hospitals and specialties. The primary barrier to learning research and academic writing identified by learners was the lack of knowledge, leading to time constraints. Improving learners' research competencies, relationship building, autonomy, and motivation through a support system was deemed crucial. The study also identified diverse learner types and preferred educational topics, indicating a demand for learner-centered education and coaching. Conclusion: This study provides foundational data for designing and developing a program on education on research competencies for interns and residents in Korean medicine and suggests the need for initiatives to strengthen these competencies.

RESUMO

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the leading causes of blindness. AMD is currently incurable; the best solution is to prevent its occurrence. To develop drugs for AMD, it is crucial to have a model system that mimics the symptoms and mechanisms in patients. It is most important to develop safer and more effective anti-AMD drug. In this study, the dose of A2E and the intensity of blue light were evaluated to establish an appropriate atrophic in vitro model of AMD and anti-AMD effect and therapeutic mechanism of Codonopsis lanceolata. The experimental groups included a control group an AMD group treated with A2E and blue light, a lutein group treated with 25 µM lutein after AMD induction, and three groups treated with different doses of C. lanceolata (10, 20, and 50 µg/mL) after AMD induction. Intrinsic apoptotic pathway (Bcl-2 family), anti-oxidative system (Keap1/Nrf2/HO-1 antioxidant response element), and anti-carbonyl effect (4-hydroxynonenal [4-HNE]) were evaluated using immunofluorescence, MTT, TUNEL, FACS, and western blotting analyses. A2E accumulation in the cytoplasm of ARPE-19 cells depending on the dose of A2E. Cell viability of ARPE-19 cells according to the dose of A2E and/or blue light intensity. The population of apoptotic or necrotic cells increased based on the A2E dose and blue light intensity. Codonopsis lanceolata dose-dependently prevented cell death which was induced by A2E and blue light. The antiapoptotic effect of that was caused by activating Keap1/Nrf2/HO-1 pathway, suppressing 4-HNE, and modulating Bcl-2 family proteins like increase of antiapoptotic proteins such as Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL and decrease of proapoptotic protein such as Bim. Based on these findings, 30 µM A2E and 20 mW/cm2 blue light on adult retinal pigment epithelium-19 cells was an appropriate condition for AMD model and C. lanceolata shows promise as an anti-AMD agent.

RESUMO

Kimchi cabbage, the key ingredient in kimchi, is cultivated year-round to meet high production demands. This study aimed to examine the effects of seasonal harvesting (spring, summer, fall, and winter) on the microbial and metabolic profiles of kimchi during 30 days of fermentation. Lactic acid bacteria distribution is notably influenced by seasonal variations, with Latilactobacillus dominant in fall-harvested kimchi group and Weissella prevailing in spring, summer, and winter. The microbial communities of spring and fall group exhibited similar profiles before fermentation, whereas the microbial communities and metabolic profiles of spring and summer group were similar after 30 days of fermentation. Seasonal disparities in metabolite concentrations, including glutamic acid, serine, and cytosine, persist throughout fermentation. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the substantial impact of seasonal harvesting of kimchi cabbage on the microbial and metabolic characteristics of kimchi, providing valuable insights into producing kimchi with diverse qualities.
