RESUMO

A novel Catellani-type conversion is reported using aryl-thianthreniums (aryl-TTs) instead of aryl halides. Three classes of ortho-dual C-H functionalization involving alkylation, amination, and deuterated methylation and five types of ipso-operation including alkenylation, cyanation, methylation, hydrogenation, and alkynylation all proceed well in this procedure. In this conversion, aryl-TTs exhibit satisfactory reactivity and feature the advantage that the leaving TT unit can be recovered. More strikingly, this finding represents a new chemistry conversion of aryl-TTs, wherein contiguous tri-functionalization in a single chemical manipulation is realized.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study is to observe LP45 (Lactobacillus plantarum 45) to investigate the mechanism by which LP45 attenuates oxidative stress-induced damage and regulates the osteoblast-osteoclast balance. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The oxidative stress level and osteoblast- and osteoclast-related proteins were detected by immunofluorescence staining, Western blotting, ROS fluorescent probe and ELISA. Osteoblast cell proliferation capacity was determined by the CCK-8 assay. X-ray observation and HE staining were used to detect the effect of LP45 on osteoporosis. RESULTS: The expression level of SHP2 and Src was significantly increased, and the expression levels of NOX4, P22, P47, IL-1ß, NLRP3, IRF3, RANK, ß-catenin and INF-ß were inhibited in LP45 group and LPS + LP45 group as compared to those in LPS group. Compared with that in LPS group, the concentration of SOD was increased and the concentration of MDA was decreased in LPS + LP45 group. The protein expressions of OPG, RANKL, RUNX3, RANK and ß-catenin in LP45 group and LPS + LP45 group increased. The protein expressions of NF-κB, CREB and AP-1 in LP45 group and LPS + LP45 group decreased significantly. The results were also confirmed by immunofluorescence staining and ROS fluorescent probe. X-ray observation and HE staining showed that LP45 could inhibit the progression of osteoporosis. CONCLUSION: LP45 can exert its antioxidant effect by inhibiting the production of oxidative stress to activate the SHP2 signaling pathway, thus promoting osteoblast differentiation and repressing osteoclast formation to maintain bone homeostasis and improve bone metabolism.

This study aims to investigate the potential regulatory network responsible for the meat quality using multi-omics to help developing better varieties. Slaughter performance and meat quality of Shuxing No.1 rabbit outperformed IRA rabbit according to the tested rabbit parameters. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and differentially abundance proteins (DAPs) were involved in meat quality-related pathways, such as PI3K - Akt and MAPK signaling pathways. Only SMTNL1 and PM20D2 shared between DEGs and DAPs. Olfactory-sensitive undecanal, a differentially abundant metabolite (DAM) in volatilomics (vDAMs), correlated with all of the remaining 11 vDAMs, and most of 12 vDAMs were associated with amino acid metabolism. Integration revealed that 829 DEGs/DAPs were associated with 15 DAMs in four KEGG pathways, such as melatonin (a DAM in widely targeted metabolomics) was significantly positively correlated with ALDH and negatively correlated with RAB3D and CAT in the tryptophan metabolism pathway. This study sheds light on the potential mechanisms that contribute to the improved meat quality and flavor. SIGNIFICANCE: Shuxing No.1 rabbit is a new breed of meat rabbit in the Chinese market. In meat marketing, meat quality usually determines the purchase intention of consumers. Determining the biological and molecular mechanisms of meat quality in meat rabbit is essential for developing strategies to improve meat quality. According to the tested rabbit parameters, this study ascertained that the slaughter performance and meat quality of Shuxing No.1 rabbit surpasses that of IRA rabbit. The present study profiled the transcriptome, proteome, widely targeted metabolome, and volatilome of longissimus dorsi from Shuxing No.1 rabbit and IRA rabbit. The study found that meat quality and flavor-related tryptophan metabolism pathway is enriched with many DEGs/DAPs (including ALDH, RAB3D, and CAT), as well as a DAM, melatonin. This study sheds light on the potential mechanisms that contribute to the improved meat quality and flavor.

The Bailing Capsule is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, its therapeutic effects and pharmacological mechanisms have not been fully explored. In this study, we integrated meta-analysis and network pharmacology to provide scientific evidence for the efficacy and pharmacological mechanism of Bailing Capsule in treating CKD. We conducted searches for randomized controlled studies matching the topic in PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, and the Wanfang Database, and screened them according to predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Dates from the included studies were extracted for meta-analysis, including renal function indicators, such as 24-h urinary protein (24UP), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and serum creatinine (Scr), as well as inflammatory indicators like high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). Network pharmacology was employed to extract biological information, including active drug ingredients and potential targets of the drugs and diseases, for network construction and gene enrichment. Our findings indicated that 24UP, BUN, and Scr in the treatment group containing Bailing Capsule were lower than those in the control group. In terms of inflammatory indicators, hs-CRP, IL-6, and TNF-α, the treatment group containing Bailing Capsule also exhibited lower levels than the control group. Based on network pharmacology analysis, we identified 190 common targets of Bailing Capsule and CKD. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses suggested that the pharmacological mechanism of Bailing Capsule might be related to immune response, inflammatory response, vascular endothelial damage, cell proliferation, and fibrosis. This demonstrates that Bailing Capsule can exert therapeutic effects through multiple targets and pathways, providing a theoretical basis for its use.

OBJECTIVE: Intravenous non-volatile anaesthetics like propofol are commonly used in cardiac surgeries across several countries. Volatile anaesthetics like isoflurane may help in protecting the myocardium and minimize ischaemia-reperfusion injury. Hence, we did this review to compare the cardioprotective effect of isoflurane and propofol among patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). METHODS: We conducted a search in the databases Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (or MEDLINE), Embase, PubMed Central®, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Cochrane Library from inception until April 2021. We carried out a meta-analysis with random-effects model and reported pooled risk ratio (RR) or standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI) depending on the type of outcome. RESULTS: We analysed 13 studies including 808 participants. Almost all were low-quality studies. For cardiac index, the pooled SMD was 0.14 (95% CI: -0.22 to 0.50); for cardiac troponin I, pooled SMD was 0.10 (95% CI: -0.28 to 0.48). For mortality, the RR was 3.00 (95% CI: 0.32 to 28.43); for MI, pooled RR was 1.58 (95% CI: 0.59 to 4.20); and for inotropic drug use, pooled RR was 1.04 (95% CI: 0.90 to 1.21). For length of intensive care unit stay, the pooled SMD was 0.13 (95% CI: -0.29 to 0.55), while pooled SMD for mechanical ventilation time was -0.02 (95% CI: -0.54 to 0.51). CONCLUSION: Isoflurane did not have significant cardioprotective effect compared to propofol following CABG. Hence, the anaesthetists need to check some viable alternatives to manage these patients and reduce the rate of postoperative complications.

BACKGROUND: Atrial septal defect (ASD) is a common form of congenital heart disease. Although several genes related to ASD have been found, the genetic factors of ASD remain unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between 10 candidate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and sporadic atrial septal defects. METHODS: Based on the results of 34 individual whole exome sequences, 10 candidate SNPs were selected. In total, 489 ASD samples and 420 normal samples were collected. The 10 SNPs in the case group and the control group were identified through Snapshot genotyping technology. The χ2-test and unconditional regression model were used to evaluate the relationship between ASD and each candidate SNP. Haploview software was used to perform linkage disequilibrium and haplotype analysis. RESULTS: The χ2 results showed that the FLT4 rs383985 (P = 0.003, OR = 1.115-1.773), HYDIN rs7198975 (P = 0.04621, OR = 1.003-1.461), and HYDIN rs1774266 (P = 0.04621, OR = 1.003-1.461) alleles were significantly different between the control group and the case group (P < 0.05). Only the association with the FLT4 polymorphism was statistically significant after adjustment for multiple comparisons. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that a possible molecular pathogenesis associated with sporadic ASD is worth exploring in future studies.

Depending on the source of the blastophore, there are various subtypes of laryngeal cancer, each with a unique metastatic risk and prognosis. The forecasting of their prognosis is a pressing issue that needs to be resolved. This study comprised 5953 patients with glottic carcinoma and 4465 individuals with non-glottic type (supraglottic and subglottic). Five clinicopathological characteristics of glottic and non-glottic carcinoma were screened using univariate and multivariate regression for CoxPH (Cox proportional hazards); for other models, 10 (glottic) and 11 (non-glottic) clinicopathological characteristics were selected using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis, respectively; the corresponding survival models were established; and the best model was evaluated. We discovered that RSF (Random survival forest) was a superior model for both glottic and non-glottic carcinoma, with a projected concordance index (C-index) of 0.687 for glottic and 0.657 for non-glottic, respectively. The integrated Brier score (IBS) of their 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year time points is, respectively, 0.116, 0.182, 0.195 (glottic), and 0.130, 0.215, 0.220 (non-glottic), demonstrating the model's effective correction. We represented significant variables in a Shapley Additive Explanations (SHAP) plot. The two models are then combined to predict the prognosis for two distinct individuals, which has some effectiveness in predicting prognosis. For our investigation, we established separate models for glottic carcinoma and non-glottic carcinoma that were most effective at predicting survival. RSF is used to evaluate both glottic and non-glottic cancer, and it has a considerable impact on patient prognosis and risk factor prediction.

Purpose: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is considered as one of the risk factors for cognitive impairment. DPP4 inhibitors are effective drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. However, the relationship between DPP4 inhibitors and cognitive dysfunction remains unclear. Therefore, we used a meta-analysis to determine the association between DPP4 inhibitors and cognitive impairment in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, CNKI, and the Cochrane Library at the time of establishment, 2022, and then made inclusion criteria and screened strategies to identify studies with more precise correlations. Results: We included 10 studies with 5,583 participants. The data showed that DPP4 inhibitors significantly reduced the incidence rate of cognitive impairment in type 2 diabetes mellitus (SMD: 0.99; 95% CI [0.59, 1.38]). Furthermore, there was a linear correlation found between cognitive impairment in type 2 diabetes mellitus and fasting blood glucose, 2-hour postprandial blood glucose, and glycosylated hemoglobin. DPP4 inhibitors decreased fasting blood glucose (FPG) (SMD: 0.52; 95% CI [-0.68, -0.37]), blood glucose (2hPPG) at 2 hours after the meal (SMD: 0.82; 95% CI, [-1.2, -0.43]), and HbA1c (SMD: 0.34; 95% CI [-0.48, -0.21]). All data were statistically significant (P < 0.0001). Furthermore, we conducted subgroup analyses of the following measures at various treatment durations and ages: cognitive scores, fasting blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, and two-hour postprandial blood glucose. Conclusion: DPP4 inhibitors significantly improved type 2 diabetic mellitus individuals' cognitive impairment and reduced fasting blood glucose, 2-hour postprandial blood glucose, and glycosylated hemoglobin. Subgroup analysis showed that people aged 60 to 70 years had better treatment effects at 0-180 days. This trial is registered with CRD42023399473.

BACKGROUND: While cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) have been extensively described, few reports have described the imaging appearance of giant CCMs (GCCMs). OBJECTIVE: To describe the imaging characteristics of GCCMs and study the reasons for preoperative misdiagnosis. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the data of 12 patients (5 men, 7 women; mean age, 35.23 ± 12.64 years) with histopathologically confirmed GCCMs. Two radiologists analyzed the CT (n = 12) and MRI (n = 10) features: location, number, size, shape, boundary, signal intensity, and enhancement. RESULTS: The sellar region, cerebral hemisphere, skull bone, and ventricle were involved in 5, 4, 2, and 1 patients, respectively. Three tumors were irregularly shaped, while nine were oval. Eleven lesions showed slightly high- and/or high-density on CT; 1 lesion appeared as a low-density cyst. Calcifications were found in 11 lesions. Four tumors showed uniform hypointensity on T1-weighted imaging (T1WI) and hyperintense signals on T2-weighted imaging (T2WI). Six tumors showed mixed low-, equal-, and high-intensity signals on T1WI and T2WI. Noticeable contrast enhancement and gradual strengthening were noted on T1WI. Ten lesions showed hemorrhage and hemosiderin deposition. The GCCMs were wrongly diagnosed as cartilage-derived tumors/ meningioma (3 patients); tumor and hematoma (2 patients each); and pituitary tumor/ meningioma, chondroma, chordoma, ependymoma, and macroadenoma (1 patient each). CONCLUSIONS: GCCMs present as an oval mass with slightly high- and/or high-density calcifications on CT and show hemorrhage and hemosiderin accumulation on MRI. Therefore, slightly high- and/or high-density calcification and hemosiderin accumulation are critical clinical characteristics of GCCMs.

BACKGROUND: Being the most common type of arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation (AF) is progressively increasing with an annual rate of 5 million new cases. Recent guidelines highlight the importance of using collaborative multidisciplinary teams in order to improve outcomes during management of patients with AF. A nurse-led program including a nurse-directed education, counselling and intervention has shown to improve patients' outcomes in candidates with AF. In this analysis, we aimed to systematically compare the clinical outcomes observed in patients with AF who were assigned to a nurse-led interventional program versus a usual care group. METHODS: EMBASE, MEDLINE, Http://www. CLINICALTRIALS: gov , Web of Science; Google Scholar and Cochrane databases were the data sources. The clinical outcomes were considered as the endpoints in this study. This is a meta-analysis, and the statistical analysis was conducted by the RevMan software (version 5.4). Risk ratios (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used to represent the data after statistical analysis. RESULTS: Six studies with a total number 2916 participants were included whereby 1434 participants were assigned to a nurse-led intervention and 1482 participants were assigned to the usual care group. Our results showed that participants with AF who were assigned to the nurse-led interventional group had a significantly lower risk of composite endpoints (RR: 0.82, 95% CI: 0.70-0.96; P = 0.01), heart failure (RR: 0.66, 95% CI: 0.47-0.92; P = 0.02), atrial fibrillation (RR: 0.77, 95% CI: 0.63-0.94; P = 0.01) and re-admission (RR: 0.78, 95% CI: 0.62-0.99; P = 0.04). However, the risks of all-cause mortality (RR: 0.86, 95% CI: 0.68-1.09; P = 0.21), cardiac death (RR: 0.67, 95% CI: 0.33-1.39; P = 0.28), myocardial infarction (RR: 0.70, 95% CI: 0.35-1.42; P = 0.33), stroke (RR: 0.75, 95% CI: 0.44-1.26; P = 0.28), all bleeding events (RR: 1.11, 95% CI: 0.81-1.53; P = 0.51) and major bleeding events (RR: 0.91, 95% CI: 0.56-1.49; P = 0.71) were not significantly different. CONCLUSIONS: The nurse-led interventional program significantly improved composite endpoints including heart failure and the recurrence of AF, resulting in a significantly lower admission rate compared to the usual care group. However, nurse-led interventional program did not affect mortality, stroke, myocardial infarction and bleeding events. Based on our current results, a nurse-led interventional programs apparently could be beneficial in patients with AF. Future larger trials would be able to confirm this hypothesis.

The Asian ladybeetle, Coccinella septempunctata, is an important insect of predatory natural enemy, which has a strong control effect and application prospects for aphids, whiteflies, mealybugs, and other small-sized pests of agriculture and forestry crops. Gut microbiota composition posed impacts on development of insects. In order to clarify the effect of artificial feed feeding on the intestinal microbial species and structure of C. septempunctata, we compared the intestinal microbial flora of C. septempunctata reared on bean aphids and artificial food for 15 days. Results show that Proteobacteria was the dominant component in all groups at phylum level, Rhodobacter, Methylovigula, Burkholderia, and Bradyrhizobium were the dominant bacteria among all groups at genus level. As to the differences in bacterial community structure and diversity, there is no significant difference between Shannon index and Simpson index, the principal components analysis of the bacterial communities, and the samples were roughly distributed in different regions. After 15 days of feeding, artificial diet did not significantly reduce the microbial diversity of the gut of C. septempunctata compared to the aphid group, and there was no significant effect on the abundance of dominant flora in the gut of C. septempunctata, C. septempunctata gut has a similar core microbiota. This study clarifies the effects in intestinal microbial diversity and composition structure of the C. septempunctata with artificial diet, and provides a theoretical basis for understanding the intestinal microorganisms and optimizating the artificial diet of C. septempunctata.

BACKGROUND: Energy deficiency is the characteristic of chemotherapy-induced cachexia (CIC) which is manifested by muscle wasting. glycolysis, tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, and lipid metabolism are central to muscle bioenergy production, which is vulnerable to chemotherapy during cancer treatment. Recent investigations have spotlighted the potential of Shenqi Fuzheng injection (SQ), a Chinese proprietary medicine comprising Radix Codonopsis and Radix Astragali, in alleviating CIC. However, the specific effects of SQ on muscle energy metabolism remains less explored. PURPOSE AND METHODS: Here, we integrated transcriptomics, spatial metabolomics, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry targeted quantitative analysis, and transmission electron microscopy techniques, combined with Seahorse live-cell metabolic analysis to reveal the changes in genes and pathways related to energy metabolism in the CIC model and SQ's protective effects at molecular and functional levels. RESULTS: Our data showed that chemotherapeutic agents caused glycolysis imbalance, which further leads to metabolic derangements of TCA cycle intermediates. SQ maintained glycolysis balance by facilitating pyruvate fluxing to mitochondria for more efficient bioenergy production, which involved a dual effect on promoting functions of mitochondrial pyruvate dehydrogenase complexes and inhibiting lactate dehydrogenase for lactate production. As a result of the sustained pyruvate level achieved by SQ administration, glycolysis balance was maintained, which further led to the preservation of mitochondrial integrity and function of electron transport chain, thereby, ensuring the normal operation of the TCA cycle and the proper synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The above results were further validated using the Seahorse live-cell assay. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, our study highlights SQ as a promising strategy for CIC management, emphasizing its ability to harmonize the homeostasis of the muscle bioenergetic profile. Beyond its therapeutic implications, this study also offers a novel perspective for the development of innovative treatments in the realm of herbal medicine.

Cognitive impairment is increasingly recognized as an important comorbidity of diabetes progression; however, the underlying molecular mechanism is unclear. Dapagliflozin, an inhibitor of sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2), has shown promising effects against diabetes in rodent experiments and human clinical assays. This study aimed to determine the underlying mechanism and examine the effect of dapagliflozin on diabetic cognitive impairment. To create an in vivo model of diabetic cognitive impairment, streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice were used. Dapagliflozin was administered to mice for 8 weeks. The context fear condition and Morris water maze test was used to evaluate mice's behavioral change. Western blotting was used to evaluate protein expression. Hematoxylin and eosin (HE) and Nissl staining were applied to monitor morphological and structural changes. Congo red staining was performed to identify the formation of senile plaques. Mitochondria morphology was examined using a transmission electron microscope, and blood flow in the mouse cerebral cortex was measured using a laser Doppler imaging assay. Comparison to the diabetes mellitus (DM) group, the dapagliflozin group had lower glucose levels. Behavioral studies have shown that dapagliflozin can restore memory deficits in diabetic mice. The murky cell membrane edges and Nissl bodies more difficult to identify in the DM group were revealed by HE and Nissl staining, which were both improved by dapagliflozin treatment. Dapagliflozin inhibited the progression of Aß generation and the reduced cerebral blood flow in the DM group was rescued. After dapagliflozin treatment, damaged mitochondria and lack of SGLT2 in the hippocampus and cortex of diabetic mice were repaired. Diabetes-induced cognitive dysfunction was attenuated by dapagliflozin and the effect was indirect rather than direct.

During the coronavirus reproduction process, 3-chymotrypsin-like protease (3CLpro) and papain-like protease (PLpro) are accountable for the fragmentation of two polyprotein precursors (pp1a/pp1ab) into substructural proteins. These two proteins are vital for the replication and transcription of the viral genome. Therefore, 3CLpro is a key protein and target for the design of coronavirus inhibitors. In previous studies, we found that betulinic acid has an inhibitory effect on 3CLpro, with 51.5 % inhibition of 3CLpro at 20 µM. Then, series of betulinic acid derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their inhibition activities. The results showed that BA02 and BA05 showed significant inhibitory activity on 3CLpro with inhibitory rates of 78.1 % and 82.5 % at 20 µM, respectively. Further evaluation of these two compounds shows that their IC50 values are 7.22 ± 0.14 µM and 6.40 ± 0.14 µM, respectively.

The ovary ages earlier than most other tissues, yet the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Here a comprehensive analysis of transcriptomic landscapes in different organs in young and middle-aged mice revealed that the ovaries showed earlier expression of age-associated genes, identifying increased NADase CD38 expression and decreased NAD+ levels in the ovary of middle-aged mice. Bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing revealed that CD38 deletion mitigated ovarian aging, preserving fertility and follicle reserve in aged mice by countering age-related gene expression changes and intercellular communication alterations. Mechanistically, the earlier onset of inflammation induced higher expression levels of CD38 and decreased NAD+ levels in the ovary, thereby accelerating ovarian aging. Consistently, pharmacological inhibition of CD38 enhanced fertility in middle-aged mice. Our findings revealed the mechanisms underlying the earlier aging of the ovary relative to other organs, providing a potential therapeutic target for ameliorating age-related female infertility.

A new polysaccharide (AAP) was extracted from Auricularia auricula by water extraction and alcohol precipitation. The antioxidant activity in vitro showed that AAP had a good scavenging effect on ABTS free radicals. Then AAP was purified by DEAE-52 ion exchange chromatography to obtain the purified component pAAP. The structure analysis showed that the molecular weight (Mw) of pAAP was 96.768 kDa, which was composed of rhamnose (Rha), arabinose (Ara), fucose (Fuc), xylose (Xyl), mannose (Man), glucose (Glu) and galactose (Gal), with the ratio of 0.1:0.157:0.33:2.797:2.881:2.988:0.587, and contained α-pyranose configuration and ß-pyranose configuration. Field emission scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy revealed the special conformation of pAAP in the ring and chain shape.

Evidence from clinical research and animal studies indicates that inflammation is an important factor in the occurrence and development of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Emerging evidence shows that nucleic acids serve as crucial pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) or non-infectious damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), are released and then recognized by pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), which activates immunological signaling pathways for host defense. Mechanistically, the released nucleic acids activate cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) and its downstream receptor stimulator of interferon genes (STING) to promote type I interferons (IFNs) production, which play an important regulatory function during the initiation of an innate immune response to various diseases, including CVD. This pathway represents an essential defense regulatory mechanism in an organism's innate immune system. In this review, we outline the overall profile of cGAS-STING signaling, summarize the latest findings on nucleic acid release and trafficking, and discuss their potential role in CVD. This review also sheds light on potential directions for future investigations on CVD.

The efficient removal of radioactive uranium from aqueous solution is of great significance for the safe and sustainable development of nuclear power. An ultrathin 2D metal-organic framework (MOF) nanosheet with cavity structures was elaborately fabricated based on a calix[4]arene ligand. Incorporating the permanent cavity structures on MOF nanosheet can fully utilize its structural characteristics of largely exposed surface area and accessible adsorption sites in pollutant removal, achieving ultrafast adsorption kinetics, and the functionalized cavity structure would endow the MOF nanosheets with the ability to achieve preconcentration and extraction of uranium from aqueous solution, affording ultrahigh removal efficiency even in ultra-low concentrations. Thus, more than 97% uranium can be removed from the concentration range of 50-500 µg L-1 within 5 min. Moreover, the 2D nano-material exhibits ultra-high anti-interference ability, which can efficiently remove uranium from groundwater and seawater. The adsorption mechanism was investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) analysis, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, which revealed that the cavity structure plays an important role in uranium capture. This study not only realizes highly efficient uranium removal from aqueous solution but also opens the door to achieving ultrathin MOF nanosheets with cavity structures, which will greatly expand the applications of MOF nanosheets.

Clinical and epidemiological research shows that people with diabetes mellitus frequently experience diabetic cognitive impairment. Schisandrin A (SchA), one of the lignans found in the dried fruit of Schisandra chinensis, has a variety of pharmacological effects on immune system control, apoptosis suppression, anti-oxidation and anti-inflammation. The goal of the current investigation was to clarify the probable neuro-protective effects of SchA against streptozotocin-induced diabetes deficiencies of the spatial learning and memory in rats. The outcomes show that SchA therapy effectively improved impaired glucose tolerance, fasting blood glucose level and serum insulin level in diabetic rats. Additionally, in the Morris water maze test, diabetic rats showed deficits in spatial learning and memory that were ameliorated by SchA treatment. Moreover, giving diabetic rats SchA reduced damage to the hippocampus structure and increased the production of synaptic proteins. Further research revealed that SchA therapy reduced diabetic-induced hippocampus neuron damage and the generation of Aß, as demonstrated by the upregulated phosphorylation levels of insulin signaling pathway connected proteins and by the decreased expression levels of inflammatory-related factors. Collectively, these results suggested that SchA could improve diabetes-related impairments in spatial learning and memory, presumably by reducing inflammatory responses and regulating the insulin signaling system.
