RESUMO

Existing research has suggested a predominantly negative view of dependency-oriented help. In contrast, the current research aims to test the positive function of dependency-oriented help in intimate relationships where interpersonal dependency is valued. We hypothesized that dependency-oriented help-seeking could function in communicating liking and romantic interests and, therefore, can be instrumental in attracting mates. Our hypothesis was confirmed across nine studies (N = 2,535). For help-seekers, a mate-seeking motivation could positively predict (Study 1) and lead to (Studies 2A-4) dependency-oriented help-seeking behavior tendencies (Studies 1-2B) and actual behavior (Studies 3 and 4). For help-providers, after activating a mating goal, imagining (Studies 5A and 5B) and actually receiving (Study 6) dependency-oriented (vs. autonomy-oriented) help-seeking requests from a potential mate increased help-providers' romantic interests in that mate. Study 7 further showed the function of dependency-oriented help from the perspective of romantic competitors. As such, people in romantic relationships were more likely to see a potential competitor as a mate poacher when this person asked for dependency-oriented help from their partner. Theoretical and practical implications have been discussed. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved).

RESUMO

The poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)/thermoplastic starch (PBAT/TPS) active packaging films containing cinnamon essential oil (CEO) were fabricated by melting blending and extrusion casting method. The effects of TPS content (0 %, 10 %, 20 %, 30 %, 40 % and 50 %) on the properties of the films and their application in largemouth bass preservation were studied. As TPS content increased from 0 % to 50 %, the water vapor permeability increased from 7.923 × 10-13 (g•cm/(cm2•s•Pa)) to 23.967 × 10-13 (g•cm/(cm2•s•Pa)), the oxygen permeability decreased from 8.642 × 10-11 (cm3•m/(m2•s•Pa)) to 3.644 × 10-11 (cm3•m/(m2•s•Pa)), the retention of CEO in the films increased. The release rate of CEO from the films into food simulant (10 % ethanol) accelerated with increasing TPS. The films exhibited different antibacterial activity against E. coli, S. aureus, and S. putrefaciens. It was closely related with the release behavior of the CEO. The films containing CEO could efficiently inhibit the decomposition of protein and the growth of microorganisms in largemouth bass. It showed that the higher TPS in the films, the better inhibitory effect. This study provided a new idea for developing PBAT/TPS active films with different release behavior of active agents and different antibacterial activity for food packaging.

RESUMO

Q fever is a significant zoonotic disease caused by Coxiella burnetii, an obligate intracellular gram-negative bacterium. Although C. burnetii infection has been identified in various animal species, domestic ruminants serve as the primary reservoirs and main sources of human infection. Understanding of the epidemiology of C. burnetii in domestic ruminants is crucial for preventing and controlling of C. burnetii infection in humans. In this study, spleen tissues from sheep and goats were collected in Hennan province, China. Through PCR screening, C. burnetii was detected in sheep and goats in Henan province with an overall infection rate of 6.8 %. Sequence comparison and phylogenetic analysis revealed that all newly identified C. burnetii strains shared a close genetic relationship with those found in humans worldwide. These findings highlight the high risk of C. burnetii infection among slaughterhouse workers and emphasize the importance of epidemiological studies that investigate samples from both humans and animals within the "One Health" framework. Such surveillance will contribute to a better understanding of the epidemic situation and aid in the development of effective prevention and control strategies for C. burnetii infections in humans.

RESUMO

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most aggressive subtype of breast cancer and current therapeutic strategies are limited in their effectiveness. The expressions of Rab5 and the M2 tumor-associated macrophage marker CD163 in tissues were detected by Western blot. The migration and invasion of cells were determined using a Transwell assay. The expressions of the exosome markers were evaluated by Western blot. The polarization of human macrophages (THP-1) was determined by incubation of THP-1 cells with conditioned medium or exosomes collected from MDA-MB-231 cells with indicated transfections or by a coculture system of THP-1 and MDA-MB-231 cells. The M1 and M2 macrophage markers were evaluated by qRT-PCR. The expression of Rab5 in TNBC was significantly higher than that in normal breast tissue. Rab5 expressions in triple-negative and luminal A breast cancer were higher than those in other molecular subtypes. Higher CD163 expression was observed in triple-negative breast cancer and in triple-negative and luminal B subtypes. Rab5 knockdown suppressed but Rab5 overexpression promoted the migration and invasion capacity of MDA-MB-231 cells. The levels of CD63 and CD9 in the medium of Rab5 knockdown cells were lower than those in control cells, whereas higher levels of CD63 and CD9 were observed in Rab5 overexpression cells. Rab5 knockdown decreased the excretion but did not alter the diameter of the exosomes. Knockdown of Rab5 facilitated the anti-tumor polarization of macrophages, which was partially reversed by Rab5 overexpression. Therefore, Rab5 is expected to be a potential therapeutic target for triple-negative breast cancer.

RESUMO

Paclitaxel (PTX) is a broad-spectrum chemotherapy drug employed in the treatment of a variety of tumors. However, the clinical applications of PTX are limited by its poor water solubility. Adjuvants are widely used to overcome this issue. However, these adjuvants often have side effects and poor biodistribution. The smart drug delivery system is a promising strategy for the improvement of solubility, permeability, and stability of drugs, and can promote sustained controlled release, increasing therapeutic efficacy and reducing side effects. Polymeric prodrugs show great advantages for drug delivery due to their high drug loading and stability. There has been some groundbreaking work in the development of PTX-based stimulus-sensitive polymeric prodrug micelles, which is summarized in this study. We consider these in terms of the four main types of stimulus (pH, reduction, enzyme, and reactive oxygen species (ROS)). The design, synthesis, and biomedical applications of stimulus-responsive polymeric prodrugs of PTX are reviewed, and the current research results and future directions of the field are summarized.

RESUMO

Objective:To observe the effect of customized orthotic insoles on the gait and balance of hemiplegic stroke survivors. Methods:Sixty stroke survivors with gait abnormalities were randomly divided into a group fitted with ankle foot orthoses (AFO) ( n=30) and a group who received customized orthotic insoles ( n=30). All received conventional rehabilitation training for 4 weeks. Before the fitting, as well as 8 hours and 4 weeks afterward, both groups were evaluated using the Tinetti gait scale (TGS), the plantar pressure balance index, the difference in length between their right and left step, step width, the Timed Up and Go test (TUGT), the Fugl-Meyer lower extremity assessment (FMA-LE), the 6-minute walk test (6MWT), a trunk impairment scale (TIS), the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and the Barthel Index (BI). Results:At 8 hours after the fitting all of the insole group′s measurements were better than those of the AFO group, on average, but the differences were not statistically significant. After 4 weeks the average TGS, balance index barefoot and wearing the orthosis, step length difference, BBS and BI of the insoles group were significantly better than the AFO group′s averages. The other indicators were not significantly different. Conclusions:Customized orthotic insoles are more effective than an AFO in relieving the biomechanical abnormalities in hemiplegic patients′ feet and ankles, and enhancing their balance and gait.

RESUMO

Objective:To observe and analyze the correlation between macular microvascular parameters and urinary albumin to creatinine ratio (UACR) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).Methods:A cross-sectional study. From October 2017 to April 2018, 100 eyes of 100 patients (T2DM) and 27 eyes of 27 healthy controls (the control group) were enrolled in Xuzhou First People’s Hospital. All subjects underwent anterior segment examination via slit-lamp biomicroscopy, dilated fundus examination, 7-field fundus photographs, OCT angiography (OCTA), the fasting glucose test, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), urinary albumin, urinary creatinine and UACR levels determination. Height and weight measurement were taken for calculating body mass index (BMI). Diabetic retinopathy was ruled out by fundoscopic examinations and 7-field fundus photographs in T2DM patients. According to the UACR, patients in the T2DM group were subdivided into A1 group (UACR< 30 mg/g), A2 group (UACR 30-300 mg/g), and A3 group (UACR>300 mg/g), with 38 cases and 38 eyes respectively , 40 cases with 40 eyes, 22 cases with 22 eyes. A 6 mm×6 mm scanning area centered on the macular fovea were scanned for right eye using a frequency domain OCTA instrument, which were divided into three concentric circles centered on the macular fovea by the software automatically. The foveal zone was defined as a circular area measuring 1 mm in diameter, the parafoveal zone was described as a middle circle area measuring 1-3 mm in diameter, and the perifoveal zone was an outer circle area measuring 3-6 mm in diameter. The vessel density of superficial capillary plexus (SCP) and deep capillary plexus (DCP), foveal avascular area (FAZ) and perimeter (PERIM), non-circularity index (AI) were measured. The correlation between the macular vessel density, FAZ and UACR was analyzed by Spearman correlation analysis.Results:A1 group, A2 group, A3 group, and normal control group. The macular area SCP and DCP ( F=13.722, 5.644), foveal area ( F=4.607, 4.719), parafoveal area ( H=23.142, F=2.904), the blood flow density of the area around the fovea ( F=12.292, H=10.946), the difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05); with the increase of UACR, the blood flow density of each area of SCP and DCP showed a downward trend. The results of correlation analysis showed that the blood flow density of the whole SCP, parafoveal area, and surrounding area of T2DM patients was negatively correlated with UACR ( r=-0.376, -0.240, -0.364,-0.347, P<0.05). There were no correlation among fasting plasma glucose, HbAlc and UACR ( r=0.179, 0.085, P>0.05). There were no correlation among blood flow density in BMI, SCP foveal area, DCP and UACR (| r|<0.3, P>0.05). Conclusion:The whole, parafovea and perifovea vessel density values of SCP in T2DM eyes without DR are negatively correlated with UACR.

RESUMO

Although cyanogen ion (CN-) plays important role in industry which also bring acute environmental pollution. More serious, trace CN- enters the human body can cause serious consequences and even death. Therefore, it is of great significance to detect trace CN- with high sensitivity. Herein, a novel aggregation-induced emission (AIE) probe C-BH was synthesized based on coumarin matrix. Probe C-BH showed high selectivity and sensitivity toward CN- by dual channel response due to the excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT). The low detection limit was calculated to be 0.05 µM. Moreover, probe C-BH was successfully used for imaging CN- in living cells and zebrafish due to its low toxicity and excellent optical properties.

RESUMO

Objective:To investigate the characteristics of gastrointestinal (GI) symptom spectrum in patients with Parkinson′s disease (PD), and to help the early identification of gastrointestinal symptoms and management of PD.Methods:One hundred PD patients in the Department of Neurology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2017 to August 2017 were enrolled in this study. They were assessed by face-to-face GI dysfunction questionnaire, including eight common symptoms involved in oropharynx, upper and lower digestive tract. The Spearman correlation analysis was performed. Results:The age of PD patients was (61.9±10.5) years, the ratio of male to female was 53∶47 and the disease duration was 4.0 (2.0, 6.0) years. There were 42 cases of Hoehn-Yahr (H-Y) stage 1, 30 cases of H-Y stage 2 and 28 cases of H-Y stage 3 and above (24 cases of H-Y stage 3, three cases of H-Y stage 4 and one case of H-Y stage 5). Totally 58% (58/100) of PD patients had one or more GI symptoms. Constipation (42%, 42/100), dysdefecation (38%, 38/100) and salivation (28%, 28/100) were the top three of most common GI symptoms. Lower GI symptoms were the most common (57%, 57/100), followed by oropharyngeal symptoms (33%, 33/100), and upper GI symptoms (27%, 27/100). GI symptoms could appear in H-Y stage 1 patients, 26.1% (11/42) of which had 1-2 kinds of GI symptoms and over 20% of which had more than three kinds of GI symptoms. A total of 39.3% (11/28) of PD patients with H-Y stage ≥3 had more than three kinds of GI symptoms. The Gastroparesis Cardinal Symptom Index (GCSI) score in patients with upper GI symptoms was 3.0 (2.0,6.5). The constipation symptom score in patients with constipation and dysdefecation was 19.0 (12.0,27.3). As for the clinical type of constipation, 66.7% (38/57) of them were mixed, 21.0% (12/57) were slow transit and 12.3% (7/57) were dysdefecation. In 38.6% (22/57) of the constipated patients, constipation symptoms occurred earlier than PD motor symptoms. Correlation analysis showed that H-Y stage was positively correlated with the course of PD, the number of GI symptoms, salivation, constipation, dysdefecation and constipation symptom scores. Conclusions:Constipation, dysdefecation and salivation were the most common GI symptoms in PD patients. PD patients had at least one GI symptom in the early stage (H-Y stage 1). Lower GI symptoms were more common than oropharyngeal symptoms and upper GI symptoms. With the development of PD, the number of GI symptoms, salivation, constipation and dysdefecation were aggravated, which were important for early symptomatic identification and disease management.

RESUMO

Objective:To explore the predictability cytokines in aqueous humor affecting optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) parameters after anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment in patients with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV).Methods:A cross-sectional study was carried out.Twenty eyes of 20 patients with PCV were included in Xuzhou First People's Hospital from July 2017 to July 2020.All PCV eyes were treated by intravitreal injection of conbercept (IVC) following 3+ PRN regimen. One hundred μl of aqueous humor was collected before treatment and before the third injection, respectively.Thirteen kinds of cytokines in the aqueous humor were detected with Luminex bead-based multiplex array. The aqueous humor of 16 eyes of 16 cataract patients with age and gender matched were collected in the same way during phacoemulsification surgery as control. The values of center macular thickness (CMT), subretinal fluid height (SRFH), pigment epithelial detachment height (PEDH) and pigment epithelial detachment diameter (PEDD) of the eyes in the PCV group were examined with OCTA system. The target cytokines in aqueous humor affecting OCTA parameter change values (the difference between before and after treatment) was analyzed. This study protocol was approved by an Medical Ethic Committee of Xuzhou First People's Hospital (No.xyyll[2020]27) and complied with Declaration of Helsinki.Written informed consent was obtained from each patient prior to any medical invention. Results:The concentration of interleukin-8 (IL-8), Leptin, hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2), angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2), endothelin-1 and vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) were significantly higher in aqueous humor of the PCV group before treatment than those in the cataract group (all at P<0.05). After treatment, the concentration of VEGF-A in aqueous humor of the PCV group was significantly lower than that before treatment ( P<0.001). The values of CMT, SRFH, PEDH and PEDD were significantly reduced in comparison with before treatment, showing statistical significances (all at P<0.05). The concentration of VEGF-A in aqueous humor was positively correlated and endothelin-1 in aqueous humor was negatively correlated with the change value of CMT ( r=0.592, -0.485, both at P<0.05). The concentration of IL-8 and HGF were positively correlated with SRFH change value ( r=0.492, 0.466, both at P<0.05). VEGF-A and IL-8 concentraions of aqueous humor before treatment were the risk factor of the change value of CMT and SRFH.Every 1pg/ml increase of baseline VEGF-A, the CMT change value reduced 0.836 μm ( P=0.006), and every 1pg/ml increase of baseline IL-8, the SRFH change value reduced 12.522 μm ( P=0.028). Conclusions:The concentrations of VEGF-A and IL-8 in aqueous humor might predict the CMT and SRFH improvement in PCV eyes after anti-VEGF therapy.

RESUMO

Objective:To comparatively analyze for the fundus characteristics of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) with cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMVR) between first-visit and non-first-visit in ophthalmology. Methods:A retrospective study was performed for 22 patients (41 eyes) diagnosed as CMVR with AIDS by ophthalmology in the Affiliated Municipal Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from July 2004 to September 2017. The patients were divided into two groups: one with the first-visit in ophthalmology (FVO) and the other with the first-visit in non-ophthalmology (FVNO). All patients underwent visual acuity, intraocular pressure, slit lamp microscope and indirect ophthalmoscope examinations. Thirty-nine eyes of 21 patients with clear refractive media were examined by color fundus photography, of which 5 patients were examined by FFA. Five patients examined by OCT and B-mode ultrasound. The CMVR were characterized as fulminant type or indolent type. All the 22 patients (41 eyes) except 2 patients (4 eyes) accepted highly active antiroviral therapy, and all patients were treated with ganciclovir intravenously. Nine patients (12 eyes) received intravitreal injection of ganciclovir, 7 patients (10 eyes) underwent vitrectomy because of retinal detachment, 6 patients (7 eyes) gave up surgery because of extensive retinal detachment, and the other 12 eyes did not undergo any eye surgery. All patients were followed for 6-58 months (average 23±39 months). The incidences and fundus characteristics of the patients with fulminant or indolent CMVR were compared and analyzed. Between the two groups, the difference of visual acuity and CD4 +T cell count at the first vist and the last follow-up were analyzed by a t-test, and the macular involvement and spread of the two groups were compared by a chi-square test. Results:Fulminant CMVR showed dense yellow-white necrotic lesions along the great vessels with or without satellite lesions, while indolent CMVR showed sparse yellow-white granular lesions with a little bleeding. The concomitant signs included frost-like dendritic vascular sheath, retinal artery occlusion and optic disc edema. Fourteen eyes of 7 patients in FVO group were fulminant, including 2 patients (2 eyes) with retinal artery occlusion and 1 patient (two eyes) with optic disc edema. In FVNO group, there were 27 eyes of 15 patients, including 21 eyes of 13 cases identified as fulminant type and 6 eyes of 4 patients as indolent type. In the fulminant type, there were 4 patients (6 eyes) with frost-like dendritic vascular sheath, 10 patients (12 eyes) with retinal artery occlusion and 4 patients (4 eyes) with optic disc edema. There was no significant difference in initial visual acuity ( t=-1.534, P=0.133), but there was a significant difference in visual acuity at the last follow-up ( t=-3.420, P=0.001). There was no significant difference in CD4 + T cells between the two groups at the first visit ( t=-0.902, P=0.378). The proportions of macular involvement and 3-4 quadrant involvement in FVO group were significantly higher than those in FVNO group ( χ 2=7.552, 7.865; P=0.006, 0.005). Conclusion:For AIDS patients with CMVR, the first-visit in ophthalmology showed more dense necrotic lesions involving macular and a wider range of lesions than the first-visit in non-ophthalmology.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Continuous infusion of doxorubicin has been a strategy to reduce cardiotoxicity. Epirubicin is another anthracycline in common clinical use. However, evidence is lacking regarding whether this strategy can reduce cardiotoxicity of epirubicin without compromising antineoplastic efficacy. DESIGN AND METHODS: Healthy rats were randomized into groups: epirubicin (8 mg/kg) delivered intraperitoneally via micro osmotic pumps (MOP), epirubicin (8 mg/kg) by intraperitoneal (IP) bolus injection, and placebo control. Blood samples were collected for analyzing biomarkers of myocardial injury and pharmacokinetics. At chosen times, sub-groups of animals were sacrificed for histopathology. A mouse breast cancer cell line (4T1), stably transfected with luciferase, was orthotopically allografted in female mice, and treated in three groups as described above for the rats. Tumor growth was monitored by measuring tumor size as well as bioluminescence. RESULTS: Delivery by IP bolus and by MOP achieved essentially the same area under the curve of epirubicin plasma concentration time profile. Blood biomarkers showed that the degree of myocardial injury in MOP group was lower than that of IP group. Histopathology showed that there was less eosinophilic enhancement, interstitial hemorrhage and necrotizing muscle atrophy in MOP group than IP group. In the orthotopic breast cancer allograft mouse model, the antineoplastic effect of epirubicin by MOP was not different from that by IP as measured by tumor weights or by in vivo bioluminescence. CONCLUSION: Slow delivery of epirubicin by MOP reduced cardiotoxicity without compromising the antineoplastic effect compared to IP bolus delivery. These in vivo data support our previous clinical data that continuous intravenous infusion of epirubicin using micro infusion pumps over 48-96 hours had less cardiotoxicity than intravenous bolus injections. However, whether multiple doses of epirubicin given by MOP result in a lower magnitude of long term cardiomyopathy remains to be further investigated.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to qualify the network properties of the brain networks between two different mental tasks (play task or rest task) in a healthy population. METHODS AND MATERIALS: EEG signals were recorded from 19 healthy subjects when performing different mental tasks. Partial directed coherence (PDC) analysis, based on Granger causality (GC), was used to assess the effective brain networks during the different mental tasks. Moreover, the network measures, including degree, degree distribution, local and global efficiency in delta, theta, alpha, and beta rhythms were calculated and analyzed. RESULTS: The local efficiency is higher in the beta frequency and lower in the theta frequency during play task whereas the global efficiency is higher in the theta frequency and lower in the beta frequency in the rest task. SIGNIFICANCE: This study reveals the network measures during different mental states and efficiency measures may be used as characteristic quantities for improvement in attentional performance.

RESUMO

The WPI-NaCas-GLY antimicrobial film takes full advantage of the controlled release of active or antimicrobial agents as well as demonstrates a great potential for functioning as an alternative biodegradable polymer in practical applications. The moisture sorption kinetics of the film as an important carrier of active agents was investigated at various relative humidities (RH). The results indicated that the moisture sorption characterization and procedure of this film can be described well by the empirical Peleg model with higher confidence and concordance. The model could predict the film's moisture content at any time (Mt), the time to reach any given level of R (tR), the equilibrium moisture at any RH condition (Me), and isotherm trend based upon experimental data and modeled constants k(1), k(2), a, b, c, and d without giving consideration to their physical meaning. The water vapor transmission rate of the WPI-NaCas-GLY antimicrobial film increased exponentially with increasing RH due to its hydrophilicity, which was primarily caused by the presence of glycerol in a higher content. The results also suggested that aw predominately affects the film's Me values compared with the temperature factor by fixed nonlinear multiple regression analyses.

RESUMO

Although researchers generally concur that creativity involves the production of novel and useful products, the neural basis of creativity remains elusive due to the complexity of the cognitive processes involved. Recent studies have shown that highly creative individuals displayed more cognitive flexibility. However, direct evidence supporting the relationship between creativity and cognitive flexibility has rarely been investigated using both structural and functional neuroimaging techniques. We used a combined voxel-based morphometry and resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) analysis to investigate the relationship between individual creativity ability assessed by the creative achievement questionnaire (CAQ), and regional gray matter volume (GMV), as well as intrinsic functional connectivity. Results showed that CAQ scores negatively correlated with GMV in the rostral anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and the bilateral dorsal ACC (dACC) extending to supplementary motor area, but positively correlated with GMV in the bilateral superior frontal gyrus and ventral medial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC). Further functional connectivity analysis revealed that higher creative achievement was inversely associated with the strength of rsFC between the dACC and medial superior frontal gyrus (mSFG), right middle frontal gyrus, and left orbito-frontal insula. Moreover, the association between the dACC-mSFG connectivity and CAQ scores was mediated by cognitive flexibility, assessed by a task-switching paradigm. These findings indicate that individual differences in creative achievement are associated with both brain structure and corresponding intrinsic functional connectivity involved in cognitive flexibility and deliberate creative processing. Furthermore, dACC-mSFG connectivity may affect creative achievement through its impact on cognitive flexibility.
