RESUMO

Sixteen specimens of cadaveric intertoe folds of patients who had suffered from intertrichinous mycoses of the soles (miners who died in accidents or because of traumas) were examined by histologic and histochemical methods. For control intertoe fold specimens from 10 suddenly dead workers without mycoses were examined. Examinations of skin specimens from mycosis foci have revealed fungus mycelium in the epidermis and superficial layers of the derma, focal perivascular infiltrates consisting mainly of T-lymphocytes (a positive reaction to alpha-naphthylacetate esterase), macrophages, sensitized lymphocytes (high acid phosphatase activity); this necessitates administration, along with mycocidal agents, of angioprotectors, proteolysis inhibitors, immunostimulants. Histoenzymologic studies have revealed impairments of the principal components of metabolism and activation of glycolysis processes. Less manifest changes were revealed in apparently intact skin, this being an evidence of a systemic involvement of the skin in a prolonged mycotic process.

RESUMO

A mathematical model is presented, intended to help in the solution of some problems related to analysis and prediction of the time course of trichophytosis morbidity. This model has been employed in analysis of the incidence rates of both the anthroponotic and zoonotic forms of trichophytosis and of the ratio between the rates of these two forms in the whole country and in each of the republics, among the urban and rural residents. This model helped predict trichophytosis morbidity.

RESUMO

Clinical trials evidence the efficacy of laser treatment as a component of multiple-modality therapy of nail diseases of various etiology. The coagulating effect of highly intensive laser radiation may be used for nail plate removal, and that of low-intensity lasers for stimulation of the reparative processes in the nail plate.

RESUMO

Three cases of chromomycosis, a disease rare in this country, are described. The authors analyze the difficulties associated with the diagnosis of this disease and review the methods of its treatment. All the patients reported in this paper have been administered polychemotherapy including intrafocal injections of amphotericin B (an antimycotic drug), iodine preparations, vitamin D2, and nizoral. This therapy has been effective in all the cases. The employed mode of administration of amphotericin B (injections round the infection focus) helps create a high concentration of the drug in the involved skin sites, resolve the nearby foci, and rules out the general reactions. Combined therapy cuts down the length of treatment.

RESUMO

Changed glycogen levels in the neutrophils and monocytes is a pathogenetic component contributing to the development of mycoses of the soles and a characteristic feature of nonspecific immune reactivity. The neutrophilic phagocytic activity is depressed in such patients, and the monocytes are functionally inert. Furazolidonum, potassium orotate, and riboflavin are effective stimulants of the cell-mediated defense in such patients.

RESUMO

Examinations of 18 patients with mycoses of the foot complicated by allergic processes, have revealed elevated blood serum concentrations of histamine, serotonin, cathepsin D, and acid phosphatase, and a lowered activity of monoamine oxidase, as compared to 22 patients with mycoses not complicated with allergic manifestations. This fact reflects one of the aspects of a pathogenetic difference between these patients and necessitates combined therapy to correct the detected abnormalities.

RESUMO

Oral therapy with nizoral and griseofulvin influences the system of cytochrome P = 450-dependent monoxygenases of the liver, this resulting in the depression of antipyrine microsomal oxidation. Recommendations are given on how to regard the data of antipyrine test over the course of therapy with oral antimycotic drugs.

RESUMO

A total of 201 patients suffering from trichophytosis induced by T. rubrum have been effectively treated with nizoral combined with external management: removal of the nail plates, keratolytic and fungicidal therapy. Treatment with this drug should be preceded by a comprehensive clinical and laboratory examination.
