RESUMO

Bimetallic metal-organic frameworks (BMOFs) have garnered significant attention in the field of environmental remediation due to their more diverse adsorption sites compared to monometallic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Different energy barriers must be overcome for different metal ions and organic linkers to form MOFs. However, the impact of the synthesis temperature on the crystallization and porosity structure of BMOFs has been rarely studied. In this work, PCN-333 series-based BMOFs with different Fe/Al ratios were prepared by a solvothermal method at temperatures of both 135 and 150 °C. The synthesis temperature and Fe/Al ratio have significant effects on the crystal structure and specific surface area of bimetallic PCN-333, leading to the different adsorption performance of the PCN-333 for Congo red (CR). The Fe/Al-PCN-333-135(3:1) and Fe-PCN-333-150 exhibited the maximum CR adsorption capacities of 3233 and 3933 mg/g, respectively, surpassing the capacities of most previously documented adsorbents. The Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order kinetics can well describe the adsorption process of CR on Fe/Al-PCN-333-135(3:1) and Fe-PCN-333-150. Combining the isotherm adsorption behavior with the thermodynamic parameters, CR adsorption on BMOFs is a single-layer endothermic chemical adsorption. Furthermore, Fe/Al-PCN-333-135(3:1) and Fe-PCN-333-150 exhibited regenerability and reusability for three cycles with reasonable efficiency. This work is of great significance in the field of engineering BMOF materials to treat dye wastewater.

RESUMO

Cyanide extraction dominates the gold smelting industry, which leads to the generation of large amounts of cyanide-containing wastewater. In this study, Aneurinibacillus tyrosinisolvens strain named JK-1 was used for cyanide wastewater biodegradation. First, we tested the performance of JK-1 in degrading cyanide under different conditions. Then, we screened metabolic compounds and pathways associated with cyanide degradation by JK-1. Finally, we explored the potential JK-1-mediated cyanide degradation pathway. Our results showed that the optimal pH and temperature for cyanide biodegradation were 7.0 and 30 °C, respectively; under these conditions, a degradation rate of >98% was achieved within 48 h. Untargeted metabolomics results showed that increased cyanide concentration decreased the abundance of metabolic compounds by 71.1% but upregulated 32 metabolic pathways. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment results revealed significant changes in amino acid metabolism pathways during cyanide degradation by JK-1, including cyanoamino acid metabolism, ß-alanine metabolism, and glutamate metabolism. Differential metabolic compounds included acetyl-CoA, l-asparagine, l-glutamic acid, l-phenylalanine, and l-glutamine. These results confirmed that cyanide degradation by JK-1 occurs through amino acid assimilation. This study provides new insights into the mechanism of cyanide biodegradation, which can be applied in the treatment of cyanide wastewater or tailings.

RESUMO

Battery energy storage systems (BESSs) are generally used as a buffer stage for photovoltaic (PV) power generation to tolerate the output power unpredictability in DC microgrids, in which the State-of-Charge (SoC) balance is a necessary and urgent issue to be solved. To this end, an integral feedforward sliding mode controller (SMC) is adopted to replace the traditionally proportional integral (PI) controller such that the voltage response speed of the converter in each BESS can be significantly enhanced. Further, a novel adaptive droop control strategy for SoC balance with three different working modes is proposed, in which all batteries can be cooperated through three different stages corresponding to their different SoC degrees. Compared with most existing SoC balancing approaches, the proposed SoC strategy can improve the transient performance for the BESSs and their robustness against the volatility of PV output powers. The effectiveness of the proposed SoC balancing strategy is verified through a simulation in a DC microgrid network consisting of several PV generators, batteries, and loads utilizing Simulink/SimPower Systems.

RESUMO

Bacterial morphology is largely determined by the spatial and temporal regulation of peptidoglycan (PG) biosynthesis. Ovococci possess a unique pattern of PG synthesis different from the well studied Bacillus, and the mechanism of the coordination of PG synthesis remains poorly understood. Several regulatory proteins have been identified to be involved in the regulation of ovococcal morphogenesis, among which DivIVA is an important one to regulate PG synthesis in streptococci, while its mechanism is largely unknown. Here, the zoonotic pathogen Streptococcus suis was used to investigate the regulation of DivIVA on PG synthesis. Fluorescent d-amino acid probing and 3D-structured illumination microscopy found that DivIVA deletion caused abortive peripheral PG synthesis, resulting in a decreased aspect ratio. The phosphorylation-depleted mutant (DivIVA3A) cells displayed a longer nascent PG and became longer, whereas the phosphorylation-mimicking mutant (DivIVA3E) cells showed a shorter nascent PG and became shorter, suggesting that DivIVA phosphorylation is involved in regulating peripheral PG synthesis. Several DivIVA-interacting proteins were identified, and the interaction was confirmed between DivIVA and MltG, a cell wall hydrolase essential for cell elongation. DivIVA did not affect the PG hydrolysis activity of MltG, while the phosphorylation state of DivIVA affected its interaction with MltG. MltG was mislocalized in the ΔdivIVA and DivIVA3E cells, and both ΔmltG and DivIVA3E cells formed significantly rounder cells, indicating an important role of DivIVA phosphorylation in regulating PG synthesis through MltG. These findings highlight the regulatory mechanism of PG synthesis and morphogenesis of ovococci. IMPORTANCE The peptidoglycan (PG) biosynthesis pathway provides a rich source of novel antimicrobial drug targets. However, bacterial PG synthesis and its regulation is a very complex process involving dozens of proteins. Moreover, unlike the well studied Bacillus, ovococci undergo unusual PG synthesis with unique mechanisms of coordination. DivIVA is an important regulator of PG synthesis in ovococci, while its exact role in regulating PG synthesis remains poorly understood. In this study, we determined the role of DivIVA in regulating lateral PG synthesis of Streptococcus suis and identified a critical interacting partner, MltG, in which DivIVA influenced the subcellular localizations of MltG through its phosphorylation. Our study characterizes the detailed role of DivIVA in regulating bacterial PG synthesis, which is very helpful for understanding the process of PG synthesis in streptococci.

RESUMO

Mechanically robust and macro-porous hydrogels are urgently required for the dynamic removal of heavy metals in wastewater purification field. Herein, a novel microfibrillated cellulose/polyethyleneimine hydrogel (MFC/PEI-CD) with high compressibility and macro-porous structures was fabricated via the synergy of cryogelation and double-network for Cr(VI) adsorption from wastewater. MFCs were pre-cross-linked by bis(vinyl sulfonyl)methane (BVSM) and then formed double-network hydrogels with PEIs and glutaraldehyde below freezing. The SEM showed that the MFC/PEI-CD possessed interconnected macropores with an average pore diameter of 52 µm. Mechanical tests indicated a high compressive stress of 116.4 kPa at 80 % strain, which was 4 times higher than the corresponding MFC/PEI with a single-network. The Cr(VI) adsorption performance of MFC/PEI-CDs was systematically investigated under different parameters. Kinetic studies indicated that the adsorption process was well described by the pseudo-second-order model. Isothermal adsorption behaviors accorded well with Langmuir model with the maximum adsorption capacity of 545.1 mg/g, which was superior to most adsorption materials. More importantly, the MFC/PEI-CD was applied to dynamically adsorb Cr(VI) with the treatment volume of 2070 mL/g. Therefore, this work demonstrates that the synergy of cryogelation and double-network is a novel method for preparing macro-porous and robust materials with promising heavy metal removal from wastewater.

RESUMO

Solvated electrons are powerful reducing agents capable of driving some of the most energetically expensive reduction reactions. Their generation under mild and sustainable conditions remains challenging though. Using near-ultraviolet irradiation under low-intensity one-photon conditions coupled with electrochemical and optical detection, we show that the yield of solvated electrons in water is increased more than 10 times for nanoparticle-decorated electrodes compared to smooth silver electrodes. Based on the simulations of electric fields and hot carrier distributions, we determine that hot electrons generated by plasmons are injected into water to form solvated electrons. Both yield enhancement and hot carrier production spectrally follow the plasmonic near-field. The ability to enhance solvated electron yields in a controlled manner by tailoring nanoparticle plasmons opens up a promising strategy for exploiting solvated electrons in chemical reactions.

RESUMO

This study examines the relationship between chief executive officers (CEOs)' collectivistic cultural background and corporate pollution abatement behavior among industrial firms in China. Using hand-collected data on birthplaces of CEOs of the industrial firms, we provided robust evidence that CEOs born in provinces with a higher level of collectivistic culture promote corporate pollution abatement performance. This study further shows that firms exhibit significant differences in their emission reduction behavior when firms are subjected to environmental regulation shocks: firms with collectivistic CEOs tend to reduce more pollution than firms with individualistic CEOs without sacrificing their firms' production.

RESUMO

In the past few decades, biosensors have been gradually developed for the rapid detection and monitoring of human diseases. Recently, functional nucleic-acid (FNA) biosensors have attracted the attention of scholars due to a series of advantages such as high stability and strong specificity, as well as the significant progress they have made in terms of biomedical applications. However, there are few reports that systematically and comprehensively summarize its working principles, classification and application. In this review, we primarily introduce functional modes of biosensors that combine functional nucleic acids with different signal output modes. In addition, the mechanisms of action of several media of the FNA biosensor are introduced. Finally, the practical application and existing problems of FNA sensors are discussed, and the future development directions and application prospects of functional nucleic acid sensors are prospected.
