RESUMO

The aim of this research was to explore the potential of treadmill exercise in preventing brain aging and neurodegenerative diseases caused by oxidative stress, by studying its effects on D-galactose-induced mice and the mechanisms involved. The results showed that C57BL/6 mice induced with D-gal exhibited cognitive impairment and oxidative stress damage, which was ameliorated by treadmill exercise. The Morris water maze also showed that exercise improved cognitive performance in aging mice and alleviated hippocampal and mitochondrial damage. The study also found that treadmill exercise increased the expression of nuclear factor Nrf2, p-GSK3ß, HO-1, NQO1, BDNF, and Bcl-2 proteins while decreasing the expression of Bax. Furthermore, there was a substantial increase in the levels of CAT, GSH-PX and SOD in the serum, along with a decrease in MDA levels. The outcomes propose that aerobic exercise has the potential to hinder oxidative stress and cell death in mitochondria through the modulation of the Nrf2/GSK3ß signaling pathway, thus improving cognitive impairment observed in the aging model induced by D-galactose. It appears that treadmill exercise could potentially serve as an effective therapeutic approach to mitigating brain aging and neurodegenerative diseases triggered by oxidative stress.

BACKGROUND: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has gradually drawn the attention of clinicians as an alternative choice for insomniacs and TCM Yangxin Anshen Therapy (TYAT) is a crucial therapy of treating insomniacs. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TYAT for insomnia. METHODS: Seven electronic databases were searched from inception to July 2019. Two authors independently identified Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs), extracted data and assessed risk of bias by Cochrane risk bias assessment tool. Comprehensive meta-analysis was conducted with the Review Manager for eligible and appropriate studies. RESULTS: Fourteen trials (1549 participants) were finally included in this study. The included studies were of moderate-to-high quality. Twelve trials reported the specific methods of random sequence generation, and 4 of them used the allocation concealment. Blinding of participants and personnel were used in 7 studies, and blinding of outcome assessment was performed in 3 studies. The main meta-analysis showed: CONCLUSION:: TYAT is an effective alternative therapy for insomnia, and its clinical application appears safe. The conclusions of this paper have a certain reference value for further research and clinical practice. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: PROSPERO CRD 42019135115.

BACKGROUND: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) non-pharmaceutical therapies are frequently used for chronic insomnia in China, but in clinical practice, most practitioners choose appropriate treatments based on personal experience. In our study, Bayesian network meta-analysis will be used to identify differences in efficacy and safety between diverse non-pharmaceutical therapies for chronic adult insomnia. METHODS: The authors will totally retrieve seven electronic databases from their establishment to August 2019 in accordance with relevant strategies. After a series of screening, the 2 researchers will employ the Aggregate Data Drug Information System (ADDIS) and R software to analyze the data extracted from enclosed Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs). Ultimately, the evidentiary grade of the results will be evaluated. RESULTS: This study will provide reliable evidence for different non-pharmaceutical therapies on chronic insomnia in adults. CONCLUSIONS: The findings will be an available reference to evaluate the efficacy and safety of different non-pharmaceutical therapies on chronic insomnia in adults and may provide decision-making reference on which method to choose for clinicians. BACKGROUND: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has gradually drawn the attention of clinicians as an alternative choice for insomniacs and TCM yangxin anshen therapy (TYAT), as a crucial therapy of treating insomniacs, is based on the theory of syndrome differentiation. However, owing to the lack of evidence-based medical evidence, the authors intend to carry out this study to evaluate TYAT's effectiveness and safety. METHODS: Seven electronic databases will be searched from inception to July 2019. Two authors will independently identify randomized controlled trials, fetch data and assess the risk of bias with tools provided by Cochrane. A comprehensive meta-analysis will be conducted with the Cochrane Collaboration software (Review Manager 5.3) for eligible and appropriate studies. Further, the evidence will be assessed with the grading of recommendations assessment, development, and evaluation approach. RESULTS: This article will be dedicated to assessing TYAT's efficacy and safety for insomniacs. CONCLUSION: This systematic review and meta-analysis may provide persuasive evidence for the clinical application of TYAT in treating insomnia. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: PROSPERO CRD 42019135115.
