RESUMO

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is the predominant grain crop and plays a pivotal role in grain production in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR), China. Its cultivated area constitutes approximately half of the total sown area of grain crops in XUAR, with 1.14 million hectares in 2021. Fusarium crown rot (FCR) of wheat, caused by Fusarium culmorum (W.G. Smith) Sacc., is one of the most devastating soil-borne diseases known to seriously reduce grain yield (Ma et al. 2024; Saad et al. 2023). In 2016, FCR of wheat, caused by F. culmorum, was firstly identified in Henan Province, China (Li et al. 2016). In June 2023, during the investigation of FCR of wheat in Aksu Prefecture, XUAR, FCR on winter wheat (cv. Xindong 20) was found (82.761349°E, 41.612202°N). The grain-filling period for winter wheat in early June coincided with a period of high temperatures and water demand in Aksu Prefecture. Approximately 8% of the Xindong 20 wheat plants exhibited symptoms of white heads and browning at the stem base, with the disease present in 82% of the wheat fields surveyed. To identify the pathogens, 20 samples of diseased stem basal tissue, each 0.5 cm in length, were collected and sterilized with 75% alcohol for 30s and 5% NaOCl solution for 2 min, followed by three rinses with sterile water. These samples were then plated onto potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium at 25°C for 5 days. A total of 17 isolates with consistent morphological characteristics were obtained using single-spore technique, with an isolation rate of 85%. The isolated strains exhibited rapid growth on PDA, producing fluffy, pale-yellow hyphae, and accumulating a pale-yellow to dark red pigment on the bottom of the medium. On carnation leaf agar (CLA), these strains formed orange colonies due to the aggregation of a large number of macroconidia. The macroconidia were short and thick, with three to four septa and rounded apical cell, averaging 31.94 to 40.96 × 5.62 to 6.71 µm (Magnification of ×400). Microconidia were not observed. These morphological characters were consistent with those of F. culmorum (Leslie and Summerell. 2006). Two isolates (D-9 and D-11) were selected for molecular identification. The EF-1α gene fragment was amplified using primers EF1/EF2 (5'-ATGGGTAAGGARGACAAGAC-3'/5'-GGARGTACCAGTSATCATG-3') as previously described by O'Donnell et al. (1998). The two 665 bp PCR products were sequenced and submitted to GenBank (GenBank Accession No: PP763247 and PP763248) with 99. 7% identity to the published F. culmorum sequences (e.g., OP985478, OP985477, MG195126, KX702638). The molecular identification was further confirmed by F. culmorum species-specific PCR primers FcOIF/FcOIR (Nicholson et al. 1998). The expected PCR products of 553 bp were produced only in F. culmorum. Strains D-9 and D-11 were used to conduct the pathogenicity experiment on 7-day-old winter wheat (cv. Xindong 20) using drip in the lower stem inoculation method with a 10-µl of 106 macroconidia ml-1 suspension, and the control 7-day-old winter wheat were treated with sterile water (Xu et al. 2017). The experiments were replicated five times in a greenhouse at temperatures ranging from 20℃ to 25℃. After 4 weeks, all inoculated wheat seedlings showed stem base browning or even death. No symptoms were observed on the control plants. The fungus was reisolated from all inoculated wheat plants by the method described above and identified by morphological and PCR amplification using F. culmorum species-specific primers FcOIF/FcOIR. No F. culmorum was isolated from the control wheat plants, fulfilling Koch's postulates. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of F.culmorum causing FCR on winter wheat in XUAR, China. Considering wheat is the predominant grain crop and plays a pivotal role in grain production in China, necessary measures should be taken to prevent the spread of F. culmorum to other regions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is the gold standard for treating symptomatic gallstones but carries inherent risks like bile duct injury (BDI). While critical view of safety (CVS) is advocated to mitigate BDI, its real-world adoption is limited. Additionally, significant variations in surgeon performance impede procedural standardization, highlighting the need for a feasible, innovative, and effective training approach. The aim of this study is to develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted coaching program for LC to enhance surgical education and improve surgeon's performance. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a multi-center, randomized controlled trial from May 2022 to August 2023 to assess the impact of an AI-based coaching program, SmartCoach, on novice performing LC. Surgeons and patients meeting specific inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to either a coaching group with AI-enhanced feedback or a self-learning group. The primary outcome was assessed using the Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Rating Form (LCRF), with secondary outcomes including surgical safety, efficiency, and adverse events. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS, with significance set at P-value less than 0.05. RESULTS: Between May 2022 and August 2023, 22 surgeons were initially enrolled from 10 hospitals, with 18 completing the study. No demographic differences were noted between coaching and self-learning groups. In terms of surgical performance (LCRF scores), the coaching group showed significant improvement over time (31 to 40, P=0.008), outperforming the self-learning group by study end (40 vs 38, P=0.032). Significant improvements in CVS achievement were also noted in the coaching group (11% to 78%, P=0.021). Overall, the coaching program was well-received, outpacing traditional educational methods in both understanding and execution of CVS and participants in the intervention group expressed strongly satisfaction with the program. CONCLUSIONS: The AI-assisted surgical coaching program effectively improved surgical performance and safety for novice surgeons in LC procedures. The model holds significant promise for advancing surgical education.

RESUMO

Wheat stripe rust is globally one of the most important diseases affecting wheat. There is an urgent need to develop environmentally safe and durable biological control options to supplement the control that is achieved with breeding and fungicides. In this study, endophytic bacteria were isolated from healthy wheat through the tissue separation method. Antagonistic endophytic bacteria were screened based on the control effect of urediniospore germination and wheat stripe rust (WSR). The taxonomic status of antagonistic strains was determined based on morphological, physiological, and biochemical characteristics and molecular biological identification (16S rDNA and gyrB gene sequence analysis). Finally, the potential growth-promoting effect of different concentrations of antagonists on wheat seedlings and the biological control effect of WSR were studied. A total of 136 strains of endophytic bacteria belonging to 38 genera were isolated. Pseudomonas was the most common bacterial genus, with 29 isolates (21%). The biological control effect of different isolates was assessed using an urediniospore germination assay. The isolate XD29-G1 of Paenibacillus polymyxa had the best performance, with 85% inhibition of spore germination during primary screening. In the deep screening, the control effect of XD29-G1 on wheat stripe rust was 60%. The antagonist XD29-G1 promoted the germination of wheat seeds and the growth of wheat seedlings at a solution dilution of 10-7 cfu/mL. The pot experiment results showed that different dilution concentrations of the strain had different levels of antibacterial activity against WSR, with the concentration of 10-1 cfu/mL having the best control effect and a control efficiency of 61.19%. XD29-G1 has better biological control potential against wheat stripe rust.

RESUMO

Fusarium pseudograminearum is an important plant pathogen that invades many crops (Zhang et al. 2018). Since it was first discovered in Australia in 1951, F. pseudograminearum has been reported in many countries and regions and caused huge economic losses (Burgess et al. 2001). In 2012, crown rot of wheat caused by F. pseudograminearum was discovered for the first time in Henan Province, China (Li et al. 2012). Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is one of the most important food crops in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR), with 1.07 million hectares cultivated in 2020. In June 2023, a survey of crown rot disease was carried out in winter wheat cv. Xindong 20 in Hotan area, XUAR, China (80.148907°E, 37.051474°N). About 5% of wheat plants showed symptoms of crown rot such as browning of the stem base and white head. The disease was observed in 85% of wheat fields. In order to identify the pathogens, 36 pieces of diseased stem basal tissue, 0.5 cm in length, were collected and sterilized with 75% alcohol for 30s and 5% NaOCl solution for 2 min, then rinsed three times with sterile water and placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium at 25°C. A total of 27 isolates with consistent morphological characteristics were obtained using single-spore technique (Leslie and Summerell. 2006), and the isolation rate was 75%. The isolates grew rapidly on PDA, produced large numbers of fluffy white hyphae, and pink pigment accumulated in the medium. The isolates were grown on 2% mung bean flour medium and identified by morphological and molecular methods. Macroconidia were abundant, relatively slender, curved to almost straight, commonly two to seven septate, and averaged 22 to 72 × 1.8 to 4.9 µm. Microconidia were not observed. The morphological characters are consistent with Fusarium (Aoki and O'Donnell. 1999). Two isolates (LP-1 and LP-3) were selected for molecular identification. Primers EF1/EF2 (5'-ATGGGTAAGGARGACAAGAC-3'/5'-GGARGTACCAGTSATCATG-3') were used to amplify a portion of the EF-1α gene (O'Donnell et al. 1998). The two 696 bp PCR products were sequenced and submitted to GenBank. The EF-1α gene sequences (GenBank Accession No: PP062794 and PP062795) shared 99.9% identity (695/696) with published F.pseudograminearum sequences (e.g., OP105187, OP105184, OP105179, OP105173). The identification was further confirmed by F. pseudograminearum species-specific PCR primers Fp1-1/Fp1-2 (Aoki and O'Donnell. 1999). The expected PCR products of 518 bp were produced only in F. pseudograminearum. Pathogenicity tests of LP-1 and LP-3 isolates were performed on 7-day-old seedlings of winter wheat cv. Xindong 20 using the drip inoculation method with a 10-µl of a 106 macroconidia ml-1 suspension near the stem base (Xu et al. 2017). The experiment was repeated five times in a 20 to 25°C greenhouse. Control seedlings were treated with sterile water. After 4 weeks, wheat seedling death and crown browning occurred in the inoculated plants with over 90% incidence. No symptoms were observed in the control plants. The pathogen was reisolated from the inoculated plants by the method described above and identified by morphological and PCR amplification using F. pseudograminearum species-specific primers Fp1-1/Fp1-2. No F. pseudograminearum was isolated from the control plants, fulfilling Koch's postulates. To our knowledge, this is the first report of F. pseudograminearum causing crown rot of winter wheat in XUAR of China. Since F. pseudograminearum can cause great damage to wheat, one of the most important food crops in China, necessary measures should be taken to prevent the spread of F. pseudograminearum to other regions.

RESUMO

Background: Stripe rust, caused by the fungus Puccinia striiformis f.sp. tritici (Pst), poses a significant threat to global wheat production. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the distribution of stripe rust resistance genes, characterize resistance phenotypes at the seedling stage of 137 spring and 149 winter wheat varieties in Xinjiang, China, and discern differences in resistance between spring and winter wheat varieties. Design: We used various Pst races (CYR23, CYR29, CYR31, CYR32, CYR33, CYR34) to characterize seedling resistance of spring and winter wheat varieties and to correlate resistance to the presence of wheat resistance genes (Yr5, Yr9, Yr10, Yr15, Yr17, Yr18, Yr26, Yr41, Yr80, Yr81) using molecular markers. Results: Among spring wheat varieties, 62, 60, 42, 26, 51, and 24 varieties exhibited resistance to CYR23, CYR29, CYR31, CYR32, CYR33, and CYR34, respectively, with four varieties resistant to all varieties. Among winter wheat varieties, 66, 32, 69, 26, 83, 40 varieties demonstrated resistance to CYR23, CYR29, CYR31, CYR32, CYR33, and CYR34, respectively, with four varieties resistant to all varieties. Molecular testing revealed that, in spring wheat, 2, 17, 21, 61, 10, 0, 10, 79, and 32 varieties carried Yr9, Yr10, Yr15, Yr17, Yr18, Yr26, Yr41, Yr80, and Yr81 genes, respectively. In winter wheat, 40, 20, 7, 143, 15, 1, 6, 38, and 54 varieties carried Yr9, Yr10, Yr15, Yr17, Yr18, Yr26, Yr41, Yr80, and Yr81 genes, respectively. Notably, winter wheat exhibited a significantly higher resistance frequency than spring wheat, particularly in the incidence of Yr9, Yr10, Yr17, Yr18, and multi-gene combinations. Conclusion: In summary, this study provides information on seedling stage resistance to stripe rust 286 Xinjiang wheat varieties, elucidates the distribution of resistance genes in this population, and offers a mechanistic basis for breeding durable resistance in wheat. varieties from Xinjiang.

RESUMO

Stripe rust, caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst), is a foliar disease that affects both winter and spring wheat crops in Xinjiang, China, which is linked to Central Asia. Race identification of Pst from spring wheat in Xinjiang was not done before. In this study, a total of 216 isolates were recovered from stripe rust samples of spring wheat in the region in 2021 and multiplied using the susceptible cultivar Mingxian 169. These isolates were tested on the Chinese set of 19 wheat differential lines for identifying Pst races. A total of 46 races were identified. Races Suwon-11-1, Suwon11-12, and CYR32 had high frequencies in the spring wheat region. The frequencies of virulence factors on differentials "Fulhard" and "Early Premium" were high (>95%), whereas the virulence factor to differential "Triticum spelta var. Album" (Yr5) was not detected, while virulence to other differentials showed variable frequency within different counties. The predominant races in winter wheat in the same season were also detected from spring wheat cultivars, indicating Pst spreading from winter wheat to spring wheat crops. Deploying resistance genes in spring and winter wheat cultivars is critical for control stripe rust.

RESUMO

Silicon nitride (SiN) integrated optical waveguides have found a wide range of applications due to their low loss, broad wavelength transmission band and high nonlinearity. However, the large mode mismatch between the single-mode fiber and the SiN waveguide creates a challenge of fiber coupling to these waveguides. Here, we propose a coupling approach between fiber and SiN waveguides by utilizing the high-index doped silica glass (HDSG) waveguide as the intermediary to smooth out the mode transition. We achieved fiber-to-SiN waveguide coupling efficiency of lower than 0.8 dB/facet across the full C and L bands with high fabrication and alignment tolerances.

RESUMO

Wheat stripe rust caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici is a destructive disease. Its pathogen frequently adapts to newly invaded regions and overcomes resistance in wheat cultivars. This disease is especially important in China due to its favorable conditions for the stripe rust epidemic and the recombination population structure of pathogens. Xinjiang is a vast epidemic region in China, but very limited research on this disease has been performed in this region. In this study, we identified 25 races from 129 isolates collected from winter wheat fields from five different regions (Nileke, Xinyuan, Gongliu, Huocheng, and Qapqal) of Yili, Xinjiang, using the Chinese set of 19 differential wheat lines. All isolates were virulent on the differentials Fulhad and Early Premium, but no isolates were virulent on Yr5. Among the 25 races, Suwon11-1 was the most prevalent, followed by CYR34. Both races were found in four out of the five locations. It is important to continue monitoring stripe rust and its pathogen races in this region, as it forms a pathway between China and Central Asia. Collaborative research is essential for controlling stripe rust in this region, other regions in China, and neighboring countries.

RESUMO

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the standard treatment for cholelithiasis. A very rare condition named situs inversus should not be considered as a contraindication for laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Here, we reported a case of successful laparoscopic cholecystectomy in a patient with situs inversus totalis. We also described the technical advantages of this treatment and reviewed the literature.

RESUMO

Introduction: Over the past decade, several studies on the microvascular invasion (MVI) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have been published. However, they have not quantitatively analyzed the remarkable impact of MVI. Therefore, a more comprehensive understanding of the field is now needed. This study aims to analyze the evolution of HCC-MVI research and to systematically evaluate the scientific outputs using bibliometric citation analysis. Methods: A systematic search was conducted on the Web of Science Core Collection on 2 May 2022 to retrieve studies on HCC-MVI published between 2013 and 2022. Then, a bibliometric analysis of the publications was performed using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and other visualization tools. Results: A total of 1,208 articles on HCC MVI were identified. Of these, China (n = 518) was the most prolific country, and Fudan University (n = 90) was the most notable institution. Furthermore, we observed that Lau Wan Yee participated in most studies (n = 26), and Frontiers in Oncology (IF2020:6.24) published the highest number of documents (n = 49) on this subject, with 138 publications. The paper "Bray F, 2018, CA-CANCER J CLIN, V68, P394" has the highest number of co-cited references, with 119 citations. In addition, the top three keywords were "survival", "recurrence", and "microvascular invasion". Moreover, the research hot spots and frontiers of HCC-MVI for the last 3 years included imaging characteristics and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) therapy studies. Conclusions: This study comprehensively summarized the most significant HCC-MVI documents from past literature and highlighted key contributions made to the advancement of this subject and the advancement of this field over the past decade. The trend of MVI research will gradually shift from risk factors and prognosis studies to imaging characteristics and TACE therapy studies.

RESUMO

Sugar beet cyst nematode (SBCN, Heterodera schachtii) is an important nematode that causes significant yield losses of 25-50% or more in most areas of sugar beet production worldwide. Rapid and accurate identification of this species is essential to support decisions on pest management. However, the difference between H. schachtii and other Heterodera spp. based on morphology is a challenging task. In the present study, a SCAR-PCR assay was developed to identify and differentiate H. schachtii in infected root and soil samples. H. schachtii-species-specific SCAR-PCR primers OPA06-HsF and OPA06-HsR were designed from the randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) marker amplified with random primer OPA06. The developed primers specifically amplify a 922-bp fragment from the target populations but did not amplify DNA from non-target cyst nematodes including Heterodera, Globodera, Cactodera, and other related species tested in this study. The sensitivity detection indicated that 5 × 10-4 of a single cyst, 1/320 of a single second-stage juvenile (J2), or 10 pg of genomic DNA could be detected. The assay accurately identifies the different stages of H. schachtii in sugar beet and oilseed rape roots as well as a single J2 in 10 g of soil. Finally, the SCAR-PCR assay detected H. schachtii in seven samples out of the fifteen field samples. The assay will not only be useful for differentiating H. schachtii from mixed populations of Heterodera spp. but also for effective detection of the species directly from infested samples. The assay also requires no expertise in the taxonomy and morphology of the species but serves to improve the diagnosis of H. schachtii in infested fields.

RESUMO

Heterodera schachtii is a well-known cyst nematode that causes serious economic losses in sugar beet production every year. Rapid and visual detection of H. schachtii is essential for more effective prevention and control. In this study, a species-specific recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) primer was designed from a specific H. schachtii sequence-characterized amplified region (SCAR) marker. A band was obtained in reactions with DNA from H. schachtii, but absent from nontarget cyst nematodes. The RPA results could be observed by the naked eye, using a lateral flow dipstick (LFD). Moreover, we combined CRISPR technology with RPA to identify positive samples by fluorescence detection. Sensitivity analysis indicated that 10-4 single cysts and single females, 4-3 single second-stage juveniles, and a 0.001 ng genomic DNA template could be detected. The sensitivity of the RPA method for H. schachtii detection is not only higher than that of PCR and qPCR, but can also provide results in <1 h. Consequently, the RPA assay is a practical and useful diagnostic tool for early diagnosis of plant tissues infested by H. schachtii. Sugar beet nematodes were successfully detected in seven of 15 field sugar beet root samples using the RPA assay. These results were consistent with those achieved by conventional PCR, indicating 100% accuracy of the RPA assay in field samples. The RPA assay developed in the present study has the potential for use in the direct detection of H. schachtii infestation in the field.

RESUMO

Crop resistance plays a role in preventing aphid damage, benefiting food production industries, but its effects are limited due to aphid adaptation and phenotypic plasticity. Therefore, furthering understanding of aphid-crop interactions will improve our ability to protect crops from aphids. To determine how aphids adapt to resistant varieties of wheat, Triticum aestivum L. over time, we performed a laboratory experiment to assess the multi-generational effects of three wheat varieties, Batis, Ww2730, and Xiaoyan22, with different resistance levels on the fitness of Sitobion avenae (Fab.) (Hemiptera: Aphididae). The results showed that Ww2730 and Xiaoyan22 were more resistant than Batis to S. avenae, regardless of whether the aphids were newly introduced or had been acclimated before being introduced to the three wheat varieties. However, the effect of resistance on aphid life-history traits was time dependent. Aphid weigh gain increased and they development faster of the acclimated generation compared to the newly introduced generation on all three varieties. And the fecundity on the three varieties and net reproduction rates on Batis and Xiaoyan22 significantly decreased. Aphid fitness in terms of individual life-history parameters improved, whereas aphid fitness in terms of reproductive decreased, and a convergence effect, the difference gaps and standard errors of all life-history traits among the three acclimated populations had narrowed and were less than those in the three first-generation populations, was observed during the 3-mo experimental period. We suggested that S. avenae could rapidly respond to wheat resistance through life-history plasticity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) and a partial agonist of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor γ (PPARγ). It has been shown to significantly enhance insulin sensitivity in clinical studies and in vitro experiments. However, the effect of telmisartan on PPARγ in adipocytes remains unknown. METHODS: 3T3-L1 adipocytes were incubated with tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα) to simulate growth under an inflammatory condition. On this basis, adipocytes were treated with telmisartan at different concentrations for 1 h. Then, the phosphorylation level of PPARγ, glucose uptake, mRNA levels of PPARγ downstream genes and adiponectin secretion of adipocytes were analyzed. RESULTS: Telmisartan reduced the phosphorylation level of PPARγ, altered mRNA expressions of adiponectin, adipsin, leptin, FABP4, GLUT4 and CAP, and promoted the secretion of adiponectin. Furthermore, telmisartan treatment restored the decrease of cellular glucose uptake due to TNFα stimulation. CONCLUSIONS: Telmisartan regulated PPARγ phosphorylation and its downstream gene expressions, promoted glucose uptake and acted as an overall insulin sensitizing agent in adipocytes. The specific phosphorylation site of PPARγ affected by telmisartan, the mechanism of telmisartan in regulating PPARγ phosphorylation, and whether the effects of telmisartan in adipocytes is responsible for its whole-body insulin sensitizing effect require further exploration.

RESUMO

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of combined hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) and chondroitinase ABC (ChABC) enzyme therapy in a rat model of spinal cord injury (SCI) and to explore the underlying mechanisms. A total of 48 healthy male Wistar rats were randomly divided into six groups: Sham, SCI, vehicle, HBO, ChABC enzyme and HBO + ChABC. Excluding the sham group, SCI was established in rats by a clip compression injury and rats subsequently received HBO treatment for 2 weeks with or without an intraspinal injection of 0.1 U/µl ChABC. Neuromotor functions were examined using the BassoBeattieBresnahan locomotor rating scale and the inclined plane assessment at baseline and for 4 weeks following SCI establishment. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were also measured, in addition to the expression of glycogen synthase kinase3ß (GSK3ß) and aquaporin 4 (AQP4). Results revealed that combined HBO and ChABC treatment significantly improved neuromotor function compared with the HBO or ChABC treatments alone. HBO and/or ChABC treatment significantly increased SOD and decreased MDA levels, as well as GSK3ß expression, compared with the sham and SCI rats. The combined HBO and ChABC treatment significantly inhibited SCIinduced AQP4 expression, but ChABC alone did not. Functional recovery in the HBO + ChABC group was significantly increased compared with the HBO or ChABC groups. These results indicate that combined HBO and ChABC treatment is more effective in treating SCI than either therapy alone.

RESUMO

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified as novel biomarkers for the diagnosis, staging and prognosis for gastric cancer. However, various studies have reported a series of significances based on different diagnostic values. Therefore, the current study performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of lncRNAs for gastric cancer, and to discuss lncRNA types and sources of heterogeneity. The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE, the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, the China Academic Journals Full-text Database and the Chinese Scientific Journals Database were systematically searched for potential studies. Studies were included if they were associated with lncRNAs, gastric cancer and reported diagnostic outcomes. Analysis of diagnostic values was used to summarize the overall test performance of lncRNAs. Ten studies were included in this meta-analysis. The ranges of the diagnostic value of lncRNAs for gastric cancer were as follows: Sensitivity was 0.45-0.83, and pooled sensitivity was 0.63; specificity was 0.60-0.93, and pooled specificity was 0.75; positive likelihood ratio was 1.80-6.92, and pooled positive likelihood ratio was 2.51; negative likelihood ratio was 0.23-0.67, and pooled negative likelihood ratio was 0.50; diagnostic odds ratio was 3.33-13.75, and pooled diagnostic odds ratio was 5.47. An overall area under the curve value of the summary receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.7550. LncRNAs did not have a high accuracy for identifying gastric cancer at present, but may be a useful screening tool for diagnosing gastric cancer due to their correlation with gastric cancer biological features. LncRNAs are potential biomarkers for gastric cancer if the screening strategy is altered, or they are combined with other biomarkers to diagnose gastric cancer.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the impact of secondary pancreatic infection (SPI) on the prognosis of patients with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). METHODS: Clinical data of 60 patients with SAP (January 1, 1980-December 31, 1999), especially the data at the onset of SPI, were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: Sixty patients were divided into two groups: SPI group (29 cases) and non-SPI group (31 cases). There was no significant difference in gender, average age, scores of Ranson and of high risk factors of China Medical Association between two groups, but the average stay days in hospital, payment, acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II (APACHE II) scores, days of fever, prehospital days, days of high white blood cell (WBC) count, the duration of constipation after the onset of SAP and average times of operation were significantly higher in SPI group than that of non-SPI group. Fatality rate of SPI group (7/29, 24.14 percent) was higher than that of non-SPI (1/31, 3.23 percent). There were 14 cases of infection with single microorganism (48.3 percent) and 15 cases of mixed infection (51.7 percent) in SPI group. Twenty-seven patients were infected with bacteria of Enterobacteriaecae (Escherichia 25, Klebsiella pneumoniae 1, Proteus morgani 1, 8 with bacteria of Pseudomonas (P. aeruginosa 7, P. stanieri 1), 2 with fungus, 5 with other bacteria (Bacillus subtilis 2, Tetracoccus 1, Acetobacteraceae 1, Staphylococcus epidermidis 1) in SPI group. Only in 2 patients with infective pancreatic necrosis the blood culture was positive (Escherichia coli). CONCLUSION: These results showed that the major source of SPI is entergenous, and SPI would affect the prognosis of SAP patients. With the present therapeutic regimes it was hard to prevent entergenous infections. It is necessary to find a new strategy.
