RESUMO

The urgency to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions from maritime vessels has intensified due to the increasingly stringent directives set forth by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). These directives specifically address energy efficiency enhancements and emissions reduction within the shipping industry. In this context, hydrogen is the much sought after fuel for all the global economies and its applications, for transportation and propulsion in particular, is crucial for cutting down carbon emissions. Nevertheless, the realization of hydrogen-powered vessels is confronted by substantial technical hurdles that necessitate thorough examination. This study undertakes a comprehensive analysis encompassing diverse facets, including distinct variations of hydrogen fuel cells, hydrogen internal combustion engines, safety protocols associated with energy storage, as well as the array of policies and commercialization endeavors undertaken globally for the advancement of hydrogen-propelled ships. By amalgamating insights from these multifaceted dimensions, this paper adeptly encapsulates the myriad challenges intrinsic to the evolution of hydrogen-fueled maritime vessels, while concurrently casting a forward-looking gaze on their prospective trajectory.

RESUMO

Due to the complexity of the chemical plant area at night and the harsh lighting environment, the images obtained by monitoring equipment have issues such as blurred details and insufficient contrast, which is not conducive to the subsequent target detection work. A low illumination image enhancement model based on an improved Retinex algorithm is proposed to address the above issues. The model consists of a decomposition network, an adjustment network, and a reconstruction network. In the decomposition network, a new decomposition network USD-Net is established based on U-Net, which decomposes the original image into illumination and reflection maps, enhancing the extraction of image details and low-frequency information; Using an adjustment network to enhance the decomposed lighting image, and introducing a Mobilenetv3 lightweight network and residual structure to simplify the network model and improve the contrast of the image; In the reconstruction network, the BM3D method is used for image denoising to enhance the ability to restore image detail features; The enhanced illumination and reflection images were fused based on the Retinex algorithm to achieve low illumination image enhancement in the chemical plant area. This article uses five image quality evaluation indicators, namely Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio, Structural Similarity Index, Natural Image Quality Evaluator, Interpolation Error, and Level of Effort, to compare eight traditional or modern algorithms and evaluate three different types of datasets. The experimental results show that the improved algorithm enhances the texture details of the image, improves the contrast and saturation of the image, and has good stability and robustness, which can effectively meet the needs of low illumination image enhancement in chemical plant areas.

RESUMO

This study aimed to investigate the effects of fumarate and nitroglycerin on rumen fermentation, methane and hydrogen production, and microbiota. In vitro rumen fermentation was used in this study with four treatment groups: control (CON), fumarate (FA), nitroglycerin (NG) and fumarate plus nitroglycerin (FN). Real-time PCR and 16S rRNA gene sequencing were used to analyze microbiota. The results showed that nitroglycerin completely inhibited methane production and that this resulted in hydrogen accumulation. Fumarate decreased the hydrogen accumulation and improved the rumen fermentation parameters. Fumarate increased the concentration of propionate and microbial crude protein, and decreased the ratio of acetate to propionate in FN. Fumarate, nitroglycerin and their combination did not affect the abundance of bacteria, protozoa and anaerobic fungi, but altered archaea. The PCoA showed that the bacterial (Anosim, R = 0.747, p = 0.001) and archaeal communities (Anosim, R = 0.410, p = 0.005) were different among the four treatments. Compared with CON, fumarate restored Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Spirochaetae, Actinobacteria, Unclassified Ruminococcaceae, Streptococcus, Treponema and Bifidobacterium in relative abundance in FN, but did not affect Succinivibrio, Ruminobacter and archaeal taxa. The results indicated that fumarate alleviated the depressed rumen fermentation caused by the inhibition of methanogenesis by nitroglycerin. This may potentially provide an alternative way to use these chemicals to mitigate methane emission in ruminants.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Canine mammary tumors (CMTs) have a poor prognosis, along with tumor recurrence and metastasis. Cell lines are vital in vitro models for CMT research. Many CMT epithelial cell lines were reported. However, canine mammary myoepithelial cells, the contractile component of the canine mammary tissue were overlooked. This study aimed at establishing such a cell line. CMT-1 cell line was obtained from a canine mammary tumor CMT-1 and characterized molecularly through qPCR, western blotting, immunochemistry and immunofluorescence. Its doubling time, cytogenetic analysis and migration rate were evaluated using growth study, karyotype analysis and wound healing assay respectively. To determine its tumorigenesis, xenograft transplantation was performed. RESULTS: CMT-1 tumor was a complex canine mammary carcinoma that stained negative to estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR), but positive to human epidermal growth receptor-2 (HER2), defined as HER2-enriched subtype. In this study, a CMT-1 cell line obtained from CMT-1 tumor was immune-positive to vimentin, α-SMA, p63 and negative to E-cadherin (E-cad), indicating CMT-1 cells were myoepithelial cells. It was successfully cultured for more than 50 passages showing the same immunoreactivity to ER, PR, and HER2 as the primary canine tumor. The doubling time of CMT-1 cell line was 26.67 h. The chromosome number of CMT-1 cells ranged from 31 to 64. A potential spontaneous epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) was noticed during cell cultures. Potential EMT-induced CMT-1 cells showed no significance in migration rate compared to the original CMT-1 cells. CMT-1 cells was able to grow on a 3D culture and formed grape-like, solid, and cystic mammospheres at different time period. Inoculation of CMT-1 cells induced a complex HER2-enriched mammary tumor with metastasis in mice. CONCLUSIONS: A canine cancerous HER2-enriched myoepithelial cell line was successfully established and a canine mammosphere developed from myoepithelial cells was documented in this study. We are expecting this novel cell line and its associated mammospheres could be used as a model to elucidate the role of myoepithelial cells in CMT carcinogensis in the future.

RESUMO

Our increasing dependence on infrastructure networks leads to growing concerns over the protection of these networks. Many methods have been proposed to select protective strategies by combining complex network theory and game theory. However, the misleading effect of hidden links is not considered in previous methods. This work creates an information gap between attackers and defenders by partly hiding network links to mislead the attacker in the game. We first introduce the rule of link hiding that depends on the nodes' property, where the number of hidden links has a maximum value. Additionally, based on the Stackelberg game model, we establish an attack-defense game model with link hiding strategies considering node property and cost constraints. Finally, we conduct experiments in a scale-free network and an existing power grid. The experimental results show that the defender tends to combine first-mover advantage and link hiding to get a better payoff under more different costs of the nodes. Hiding half of the links in the existing power grid can effectively reduce network damage by about 22.8% on average, with the two sides investing the same resources. The effect of link hiding could be more obvious when the attacker owns more resources than the defender. When an attacker employs the high-degree attacking strategy, the proposed link hiding method can help the defender reduce the damage to the network by 12.2% compared to the link reconnecting method.

RESUMO

This study aimed to assess the effects of feeding with different forage sources and starter concentrations on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, ruminal fermentation, and the microbial community in weaned Holstein calves. A total of 54 Holstein calves (body weight (BW) = 77.50 ± 5.07 kg; age = 70 ± 2.54 days) were assigned to 1 of 3 treatment groups (n = 18/group) that were offered diets with different forages: (1) peanut vine (PV), (2) oat hay (OH), or (3) an alfalfa hay + oat hay combination (alfalfa hay:oat hay =1:1, AO). Starter and forage intakes were recorded daily, while BW and growth parameters were assessed at 15-day intervals. The apparent digestibility of nutrients was determined. Ruminal fluid samples were collected and used to detect relevant indicators. A difference was observed for the forage × age interaction for all feed, nutrient intake, BW, ADG, and body structure parameters (P < 0.05). The final BW, average daily feed intake (ADFI), and average daily gain of the PV calves were higher than those of calves from the other groups (P < 0.05). The ruminal propionate concentration evidently increased in calves of the AO group (P < 0.05). The abundances of Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group and Shuttleworthia showed distinct responses to feeding with different forages (P < 0.05) at the genus level. The relative abundance of Shuttleworthia was negatively related to rumen pH and acid detergent fiber digestibility (P < 0.05) and strongly positively related to propionate concentration (P < 0.01). A positive correlation was found between Ruminococcus_1 abundance and butyrate concentration and neutral detergent fiber digestibility (P < 0.05). The relative abundances of Succiniclasticum and Prevotella_7 were negatively related to butyrate concentration (P < 0.05). In conclusion, there was an interaction between the factors (forage × age). The peanut vine used as a forage source promoted a higher starter concentrate intake compared to other diets and increased with the calves' age. The growth performance and rumen bacterial community of the calves were further improved. These results indicate that peanut vine can be used as the main source of forage in the diets of weaned calves.

RESUMO

The aim of the present study was to explore the effects of dietary non-fibrous carbohydrate to neutral detergent fiber (NFC/NDF) ratios on rumen development of calves, and to investigate the mechanisms by integrating of lncRNA and mRNA profiling. Forty-five weaned Charolais hybrid calves [body weight = 94.38 ± 2.50 kg; age = 70 ± 2.69 d] were randomly assigned to 1 of 3 treatment groups with different dietary NFC/NDF ratios: 1.10 (H group), 0.94 (M group) and 0.60 (L group), respectively. The ventral sac of the rumen was sampled for morphological observation and transcriptional sequencing. The average daily gain of calves in the high NFC/NDF ratio group was significantly higher than that in other groups (p < 0.05). Papillae width was largest in high NFC/NDF ratio group calves (p < 0.05). Identified differentially expressed genes that were significantly enriched in pathways closely related to rumen epithelial development included focal adhesion, Wingless-int signaling pathway, thyroid hormone signaling pathway, regulation of actin cytoskeleton and cGMP-PKG signaling pathway. The lncRNA-mRNA network included XLOC_068691 and MOAB, XLOC_023657 and DKK2, XLOC_064331 and PPP1R12A which we interpret to mean they have important regulatory roles in calve rumen development. These findings will serve as a theoretical basis for further analysis of the molecular genetic mechanism of dietary factors affecting rumen development in calves.

RESUMO

Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) functionalized with benzimidazole-derived fluorescent molecules (DHBM) are fabricated via a feasible interfacial superassembly strategy for the highly sensitive and selective detection of Cu2+ . DHBM-MSN exhibits an obvious quenching effect on Cu2+ in aqueous solutions, and the detection limit can be as low as 7.69×10-8  M. The DHBM-MSN solid-state sensor has good recyclability, and the silica framework can simultaneously improve the photostability of DHBM. Two mesoporous silica nanoparticles with different morphologies were specially designed to verify that nanocarriers with different morphologies do not affect the specific detectionability. The detection mechanism of the fluorescent probe was systematically elucidated by combining experimental results and density function theory calculations. Moreover, the detection system was successfully applied to detect Cu2+ in bovine serum, juice, and live cells. These results indicate that the DHBM-MSN fluorescent sensor holds great potential in practical and biomedical applications.

RESUMO

Today, people rely heavily on infrastructure networks. Attacks on infrastructure networks can lead to significant property damage and production stagnation. The game theory provides a suitable theoretical framework for solving the problem of infrastructure protection. Existing models consider only the beneficial effects that the defender obtains from information gaps. If the attacker's countermeasures are ignored, the defender will become passive. Herein, we consider that a proficient attacker with a probability in the game can fill information gaps in the network. First, we introduce the link-hiding rule and the information dilemma. Second, based on the Bayesian static game model, we establish an attack-defense game model with multiple types of attackers. In the game model, we consider resource-consistent and different types of distributions of the attacker. Then, we introduce the solution method of our model by combining the Harsanyi transformation and the bi-matrix game. Finally, we conduct experiments using a scale-free network. The result shows that the defender can be benefited by hiding some links when facing a normal attacker or by estimating the distribution of the attacker correctly. The defender will experience a loss if it ignores the proficient attacker or misestimates the distribution.

RESUMO

Electro-responsive actuators (ERAs) hold great promise for cutting-edge applications in e-skins, soft robots, unmanned flight, and in vivo surgery devices due to the advantages of fast response, precise control, programmable deformation, and the ease of integration with control circuits. Recently, considering the excellent physical/chemical/mechanical properties (e.g., high carrier mobility, strong mechanical strength, outstanding thermal conductivity, high specific surface area, flexibility, and transparency), graphene and its derivatives have emerged as an appealing material in developing ERAs. In this review, we have summarized the recent advances in graphene-based ERAs. Typical the working mechanisms of graphene ERAs have been introduced. Design principles and working performance of three typical types of graphene ERAs (e.g., electrostatic actuators, electrothermal actuators, and ionic actuators) have been comprehensively summarized. Besides, emerging applications of graphene ERAs, including artificial muscles, bionic robots, human-soft actuators interaction, and other smart devices, have been reviewed. At last, the current challenges and future perspectives of graphene ERAs are discussed.

RESUMO

Osteoarthritis (OA) is mainly manifested by joint pain, stiffness and mobility disorder, which is the main cause of pain and disability in middle-aged and elderly people. In this study, we aimed to explore the role and mechanism of 8-Methoxypsoralen (8-MOP) in the OA model both in vitro and in vivo. The rat chondrocytes were treated with IL-1ß, and the proliferation, apoptosis, inflammatory reactions and oxidative stress responses were determined after treatment with different concentrations of 8-MOP. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and/or Western blot were implemented to check the AMPK/SIRT1/NF-κB expression in chondrocytes. The NF-κB activity was determined by dual luciferase experiment. The pain threshold of OA rat model dealt with 8-MOP and/or the SIRT1 inhibitor EX527 was measured. Our results revealed that 8-MOP evidently reduced IL-1ß-mediated apoptosis and inhibition of proliferation, and mitigated the expression of inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress factors in chondrocytes. Additionally, 8-MOP promoted phosphorylated level of AMPKα, enhanced SIRT1 expression and inhibited the phosphorylation of NF-κB. After treatment with EX527, 8-MOP-mediated protective effects on chondrocytes were mostly reversed. In vivo, 8-MOP obviously improved the pain threshold in the OA rat model and reduced the injury and apoptosis of chondrocytes in the joints. In addition, 8-MOP relieved inflammatory and oxidative stress responses in the articular cartilage via enhancing SIRT1 and repressing NF-κB activation. After the treatment with EX527, the 8-MOP-mediated protective effects were distinctly weakened. In summary, our study testified that 8-MOP alleviates pain, inflammatory and oxidative stress responses in OA rats through the SIRT1/NF-κB pathway, which is expected to become a new reagent for clinical treatment of OA.

RESUMO

Arthritis of joints remains a hard-to-treat disease due to the low drug exposure to the articular cavity. Present study was intended to develop a Tripterine (TRI) and all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA)-loaded lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticles (ATLP) for enhanced antiarthritic efficacy in arthritis conditions. We have showed that two drugs could be loaded with high loading capacity and control the release kinetics in a pH-responsive manner. The ATLP showed strong inhibitory effects on the expressions of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1ß in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 cells at the in vitro conditions. Compared to individual drugs (TRI and ATRA), ATLP significantly reduced the paw thickness exhibiting potent inhibition of inflammation. Consistently, ATLP resulted in lowest clinical score compared to that of individual drug indicating the remarkable improvement in the recession of inflammation. We have clearly demonstrated that the nanoparticulate based co-delivery of drugs could abolish the adverse effects of free drug as indicated by the body weight changes. Importantly, ATLP resulted in significant reduction of mRNA of TNF-α, IL-6, IFN-ϒ and IL-17 compared to either free drugs or CIA mice. Overall, ATLP represent a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatment of arthritis conditions.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness of arthroscopic reinforced reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) with autologous hamstring tendon combined with anchor suture band. METHODS: Between February 2016 and March 2018, 60 patients who were to be treated with arthroscopic ACL reconstruction and met the selection criteria were selected in the study. Among them, 30 cases were reconstructed with autologous hamstring tendon combined with anchor suture band (trial group), and 30 cases were reconstructed with simple autologous hamstring tendon (control group). There was no significant difference in gender, age, disease duration, cause of injury, injury side, and preoperative Lysholm score, Tegner score, and International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score between the two groups ( P>0.05). After reconstruction, the patients in the trial group were allowed to start knee flexion and extension activities early without wearing an adjustable brace, while the patients in the control group were required to wear an adjustable brace for 12 weeks. The knee joint function (Lysholm score, Tegner score, IKDC score) and stability (Lachman test and pivot shift test) were compared between the two groups after operation. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in graft diameter between the two groups ( t=1.061, P=0.115). Compared with the control group, the operation time of the trial group was significantly different ( t=4.924, P=0.000). All incisions healed primarily. In the control group, the intramuscular venous thrombosis occurred in 2 cases after operation. Both groups were followed up 18 months. The Lysholm score, Tegner score, and IKDC score of the two groups at each time point after operation were significantly higher than those before operation ( P<0.05); the above scores in the trial group were significantly higher than those in the control group at 3, 6, and 9 months after operation ( P<0.05); there was no significant difference between the two groups at 18 months after operation ( P>0.05). There was no significant difference in Lachman test results between the two groups at each time point after operation ( P>0.05). There was a significant difference in pivot shift test results at 6 months after operation between the two groups ( P<0.05); but there was no significant difference at other time points ( P>0.05). CONCLUSION: The effectiveness of ACL reinforcedreconstruction with autologous hamstring tendon combined with anchor suture band is satisfactory. Compared with using autologous hamstring tendon alone, it has better initial strength and joint stability, and is more conducive to early postoperative functional exercise and functional recovery of knee joint.

RESUMO

Flexible optical sensors are widely studied and applied in many fields. However, developing highly stable and washable wearable sensors in optics is still facing significant challenges. Here, we demonstrate an AIEgen-organosilica framework (TPEPMO) hybrid nanostructure-based flexible optical sensor, which is prepared by a two-step co-condensation and electrospinning superassembly process. Organosilica precursors with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) features are covalently linked into periodic mesoporous organosilica (PMO) frameworks with high fluorescent efficiency due to the restriction of intramolecular motion. The three-dimensional space of ordered porous materials provides abundant reaction sites, allowing rapid and sensitive monitoring of analytes. TPEPMOs exhibit good properties as acidic pH fluorescent sensors with a pKa of 4.3. A flexible film is obtained by dispersing TPEPMO nanospheres in a poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) and polyacrylonitrile (PAN) hybrid fibrous matrix (TPEPMO-CFs) using the electrospinning superassembly technique and is successfully served as an efficient fluorescent probe for the naked eye detection of ammonia gas and HCl vapor by emission changes. The fluorescence of TPEPMO-CFs can be reversed in the presence of volatile acidic/alkaline gas for more than five cycles, exhibiting excellent recyclability. In addition, TPEPMO-CF sensors show excellent washability and long-term photostability (fluorescence was maintained above 94% after washing 10 times). These stimuli-responsive AIEgen-organosilica frameworks featuring diversified forms and superstability for wearable and washable solid-state fluorescence exhibit great potential for smart gas sensors, wearable devices, and solid-state lighting applications.

RESUMO

Testis is the primary organ of the male reproductive tract in mammals that plays a substantial role in spermatogenesis. Improvement of our knowledge regarding the molecular mechanisms in testicular development and spermatogenesis will be reflected in producing spermatozoa of superior fertility. Evidence showed that N6-Methyladenosine (m6A) plays a dynamic role in post-transcription gene expression regulation and is strongly associated with production traits. However, the role of m6A in bovine testis has not been investigated yet. In this study, we conducted MeRIP-Seq analysis to explore the expression profiles of the m6A and its potential mechanism underlying spermatogenesis in nine bovine testes at three developmental stages (prepuberty, puberty and postpuberty). The experimental animals with triplicate in each stage were chosen based on their semen volume and sperm motility except for the prepuberty bulls and used for testes collection. By applying MeRIP-Seq analysis, a total of 8,774 m6A peaks and 6,206 m6A genes among the studied groups were identified. All the detected peaks were found to be mainly enriched in the coding region and 3'- untranslated regions. The cross-analysis of m6A and mRNA expression exhibited 502 genes with concomitant changes in the mRNA expression and m6A modification. Notably, 30 candidate genes were located in the largest network of protein-protein interactions. Interestingly, four key node genes (PLK4, PTEN, EGR1, and PSME4) were associated with the regulation of mammal testis development and spermatogenesis. This study is the first to present a map of RNA m6A modification in bovine testes at distinct ages, and provides new insights into m6A topology and related molecular mechanisms underlying bovine spermatogenesis, and establishes a basis for further studies on spermatogenesis in mammals.

RESUMO

The objectives of this study were to compare the growth performance, ruminal fermentation, and bacterial community of young bulls fed with diets including dried or ensiled peanut vines and to investigate whether the combination of dry peanut vine and corn silage could exhibit better feeding effects. Forty-five young Holstein bulls were selected and fed for 60 days. The total mixed ration (TMR) was formulated as follows: (1) a dry peanut vine-based diet (DPV), (2) a peanut vine silage-based diet (PVS), and (3) a whole-plant corn silage mixed with the DPV (WPCS-DPV). The ratio of dietary concentrate to forage was 50:50. The results showed that the dried and ensiled peanut vines used in beef diet exhibited no difference in the average daily gain of bulls (p = 0.490). The pH of rumen fluid in bulls fed with the WPCS-DPV and PVS diets was lower than that in bulls fed with the DPV diet (p < 0.001). The bulls fed with the DPV diet had increased Ace and Chao1 values of rumen bacterial community compared with bulls fed with the PVS diet (p < 0.05). This study confirmed the feasibility of ensiling as a preservation procedure for peanut vines and provides a reference for its utilization schemes.

RESUMO

The construction industry is extremely high risk, and safety checklist analysis is a widely used approach for safety assessment. To overcome its limitations, this article proposes an improved safety checklist analysis approach using intelligent video surveillance to replace on-site inspection. Then, a case study on metro tunnel construction is adopted to illustrate the process. First, the checklist is prepared. Second, the inspection items are correlated with construction areas, and intelligent cameras are positioned to cover the major areas of the construction site to guarantee that all the items can be checked. Thus, problems with inspection items are automatically identified and recorded. Third, the inspection items are marked by a remote scoring mechanism for safety assessment. Finally, the efficiency of the improved approach is tested by a comparative analysis among three groups. The application results indicate the feasibility of the improved approach for evaluating the safety management performance at construction sites.

RESUMO

Solar interfacial evaporation has been recognized as a versatile energy conversion protocol for cutting-edge applications such as water treatment and power generation (e.g., hydro voltaic effect). Recently, to enhance water evaporation rates, water temperature and evaporation area have been considered as essential ingredients, and thus photothermal materials and three-dimensional hierarchical structures have been developed to promote light-to-heat conversion efficiency and enhance interfacial evaporation. However, less attention has been paid to the airflow effect, because the interfacial floatability of photothermal membranes should be considered under air blast. Here, inspired from the stable interfacial floatability of lotus leaves, we report the airflow enhanced solar interfacial evaporation approach using a graphene-based Janus membrane. Laser-induced graphene (LIG) film was treated unilaterally by O2 plasma, forming a LIG/oxidized LIG (LIG-O) Janus membrane with distinct wettability on two sides. Higher water evaporation rate of 1.512 kg m-2 h-1 is achieved. The high solar interfacial evaporation performance can be attributed to the two advantages: (i) the combination of microscale capillary water transporting and nanoscale light trapping; (ii) hydrophobic/hydrophilic Janus membrane for stable interfacial floatability under airflow. Our approach is feasible for developing high-performance solar interfacial evaporation devices for practical clean energy utilization.

RESUMO

Throughout history, a relatively small number of individuals have made a profound and lasting impact on science and society. Despite long-standing, multi-disciplinary interests in understanding careers of elite scientists, there have been limited attempts for a quantitative, career-level analysis. Here, we leverage a comprehensive dataset we assembled, allowing us to trace the entire career histories of nearly all Nobel laureates in physics, chemistry, and physiology or medicine over the past century. We find that, although Nobel laureates were energetic producers from the outset, producing works that garner unusually high impact, their careers before winning the prize follow relatively similar patterns to those of ordinary scientists, being characterized by hot streaks and increasing reliance on collaborations. We also uncovered notable variations along their careers, often associated with the Nobel Prize, including shifting coauthorship structure in the prize-winning work, and a significant but temporary dip in the impact of work they produce after winning the Nobel Prize. Together, these results document quantitative patterns governing the careers of scientific elites, offering an empirical basis for a deeper understanding of the hallmarks of exceptional careers in science.
