RESUMO

The gut microbiota is the largest and most complex microecosystem in animals. It is influenced by the host's dietary habits and living environment, and its composition and diversity play irreplaceable roles in animal nutrient metabolism, immunity, and adaptation to the environment. Although the gut microbiota of red deer has been studied, the composition and function of the gut microbiota in Gansu red deer (Cervus elaphus kansuensis), an endemic subspecies of red deer in China, has not been reported. In this study, the composition and diversity of the gut microbiome and fecal metabolomics of C. elaphus kansuensis were identified and compared for the first time by using 16S rDNA sequencing, metagenomic sequencing, and LC-MS/MS. There were significant differences in gut microbiota structure and diversity between wild and farmed C. elaphus kansuensis. The 16S rDNA sequencing results showed that the genus UCRD-005 was dominant in both captive red deer (CRD) and wild red deer (WRD). Metagenomic sequencing showed similar results to those of 16S rDNA sequencing for gut microbiota in CRD and WRD at the phylum and genus levels. 16S rDNA and metagenomics sequencing data suggested that Bacteroides and Bacillus might serve as marker genera for CRD and WRD, respectively. Fecal metabolomics results showed that 520 metabolites with significant differences were detected between CRD and WRD and most differential metabolites were involved in lipid metabolism. The results suggested that large differences in gut microbiota composition and fecal metabolites between CRD and WRD, indicating that different dietary habits and living environments over time have led to the development of stable gut microbiome characteristics for CRD and WRD to meet their respective survival and reproduction needs. Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) combined with gastric coronary vein embolization (GCVE) for cirrhotic portal hypertensive variceal bleeding and compare outcomes of first-line with second-line treatment, coil with glue, and single-covered with double stents.Methods: Fifteen patients received TIPS plus GCVE as the first-line treatment for secondary prophylaxis of variceal bleeding, and 45 received it as second-line treatment. Preoperative and postoperative quantitative variables were compared using a paired t test. The incidence of survival rate, re-bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, and shunt dysfunction were analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method.Results: The portal venous pressure was significantly decreased from 39.0 ± 5.0 mm Hg to 22.5 ± 4.4 mm Hg (P≤0.001) after TIPS treatment. After 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months re-bleeding rates were 1.6%, 3.3%, 6.6%, 13.3%, 0%, and 0%, respectively. Shunt dysfunction rates were 5%, 0%, 10%, 16.6%, 1.6%, and 5%, respectively. Hepatic encephalopathy rates were 3.3%, 1.6%, 3.3%, 6.6%, 0%, and 0%, respectively. And survival rates were 100%, 100%, 100%, 96.6%, 93.3%, and 88.3% respectively. In comparative analysis, statistically significant differences were seen in re-bleeding between the first-line and second-line treatment groups (26.6% vs 24.4%, log-rank P=0.012), and survival rates between single-covered and double stent (3.7% vs 16.1%, log-rang (P=0.043).Conclusion: The results suggest that TIPS combined with GCVE is effective and safer in the treatment of cirrhotic portal hypertensive variceal bleeding. The use of TIP plus GCVE as first-line treatment, may be preferable for high-risk re-bleeding, and more than 25 mm Hg portal venous pressure with repeated variceal bleeding. However, the sample size was small. Therefore, large, randomized, controlled, multidisciplinary center studies are needed for further evaluation.

Light emitted by an object placed in a transparent protective cover will change its original propagation direction before entering a fringe projection profilometry (FPP) system due to the influence of light refraction. This Letter proposes refractive FPP for accurate three-dimensional (3D) shape measurement. The method derives a coordinate mapping between a 3D measurement space and a 2D space formed by an incident ray, a normal of a refractive interface, and an emergent ray. Based on the coordinate mapping, the equation of the emergent ray in the 3D space can be directly determined with the equation of the incident ray and used for 3D measurement without refraction error. For validation, an FPP system through a planar glass was established and used for 3D shape measurements of a ring board, a regular sphere, and two objects with complex surfaces. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed refractive FPP.

Malignant central airway obstruction (MCAO) resulting from tumor metastasis and compression severely impairs respiration, posing life-threatening risks. To address this, we employed a synergistic modification strategy, combining cisplatin (CIS) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Polycaprolactone (PCL) served as a drug carrier, enabling the preparation of a functional CIS@AgNPs@PCL fiber membrane-covered airway stent via electrospinning. This approach aimed to enhance the patency rate of MCAO. Characterization via ATR-FTIR, scanning electron microscope-energy-dispersive spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscope confirmed successful immobilization of CIS and AgNPs onto the stent surface. CIS@AgNPs@PCL substantially suppressed non-small cell lung cancer cells (A549), causing DNA damage, ultrastructural disruption, and over 50% apoptosis in 48 h. It also displayed potent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans biofilms. A mouse subcutaneous tumor recurrence model assessed anti-cancer efficacy. CIS@AgNPs@PCL fiber-covered stents significantly inhibited lung cancer tissue and enhanced anti-cancer effects by up-regulating caspase-3 and Bax, while down-regulating Bcl-2. This study's functional airway stent provides a proof-of-concept for an integrated anti-cancer and antibacterial strategy. It promptly restores the lumen, inhibits biofilm formation, prevents tumor progression, and improves postoperative MCAO patency.

PURPOSE: An assessment is being conducted to determine the safety and effectiveness of using Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)-guided transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) and microwave ablation (MWA) sequentially to treat small hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) located in the hepatic dome. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-three patients with small HCCs in the hepatic dome who underwent TACE combined with simultaneous CBCT-guided MWA were studied. Inclusion criteria were a single HCCs ≤ 5.0 cm or a maximum of three. The safety and interventional-related complications were monitored, and local tumor progression (LTP), overall survival (OS), and prognostic factors for LTP/OS were evaluated. RESULTS: The procedures were successfully accomplished in all patients. According to Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE), adverse reactions and complications are mainly Grade 1 or 2 (mild symptoms, no or local/noninvasive intervention indicated). Liver and kidney function and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels remained within a reasonable range after 4 weeks of treatment (both p < 0.001). The mean LTP was 44.406 months (95% CI: 39.429, 49.383) and the mean OS rate was 55.157 months (95% CI: 52.559, 57.754). The combination treatment achieved 1-, 3-, and 5-year LTP rates of 92.5%, 69.6%, and 34.5%, respectively; and 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS rates of 100.0%, 88.4%, and 70.2%, respectively. Results from both univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses showed that the tumor diameter (< 3 cm) and the distance to the hepatic dome (≥ 5 mm, < 10 mm) had a significant impact on the patient's LTP and OS, and were related to better survival. CONCLUSION: CBCT-guided TACE combined with simultaneous MWA was a safe and successful treatment of HCCs located under the hepatic dome.

A significant variety of cell growth factors are involved in the regulation of antler growth, and the fast proliferation and differentiation of various tissue cells occur during the yearly regeneration of deer antlers. The unique development process of velvet antlers has potential application value in many fields of biomedical research. Among them, the nature of cartilage tissue and the rapid growth and development process make deer antler a model for studying cartilage tissue development or rapid repair of damage. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the rapid growth of antlers are still not well studied. MicroRNAs are ubiquitous in animals and have a wide range of biological functions. In this study, we used high-throughput sequencing technology to analyze the miRNA expression patterns of antler growth centers at three distinct growth phases, 30, 60, and 90 days following the abscission of the antler base, in order to determine the regulatory function of miRNA on the rapid growth of antlers. Then, we identified the miRNAs that were differentially expressed at various growth stages and annotated the functions of their target genes. The results showed that 4319, 4640, and 4520 miRNAs were found in antler growth centers during the three growth periods. To further identify the essential miRNAs that could regulate fast antler development, five differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) were screened, and the functions of their target genes were annotated. The results of KEGG pathway annotation revealed that the target genes of the five DEMs were significantly annotated to the "Wnt signaling pathway", "PI3K-Akt signaling pathway", "MAPK signaling pathway", and "TGF-ß signaling pathway", which were associated with the rapid growth of velvet antlers. Therefore, the five chosen miRNAs, particularly ppy-miR-1, mmu-miR-200b-3p, and novel miR-94, may play crucial roles in rapid antler growth in summer.

BACKGROUND: Transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) is one of the first-line treatments for advanced hepatocellular cancer. The pain caused by TAE is a stark complication, which remains to be prevented by biomedical engineering methods. METHODS: Herein, a commercial embolic agent CalliSpheres® bead (CB) was functionally modified with lidocaine (Lid) using an electrostatic self-assembly technique. The products were coded as CB/Lid-n (n = 0, 5, 10, corresponding to the relative content of Lid). The chemical compositions, morphology, drug-loading, and drug-releasing ability of CB/Lid-n were comprehensively investigated. The biocompatibility was determined by hemolysis assay, live/dead cell staining assay, CCK8 assay, immunofluorescence (IHC) staining assay and quantitative real-time PCR. The thermal withdrawal latency (TWL) and edema ratio (ER) were performed to evaluate the analgesia of CB/Lid-n using a plantar inflammation model. A series of histological staining, including immunohistochemistry (IL-6, IL-10, TGF-ß and Navi1.7) and TUNEL were conducted to reveal the underlying mechanism of anti-tumor effect of CB/Lid-n on a VX2-tumor bearing model. RESULTS: Lid was successfully loaded onto the surface of CalliSpheres® bead, and the average diameter of CalliSpheres® bead increased along with the dosage of Lid. CB/Lid-n exhibited desirable drug-loading ratio, drug-embedding ratio, and sustained drug-release capability. CB/Lid-n had mild toxicity towards L929 cells, while triggered no obvious hemolysis. Furthermore, CB/Lid-n could improve the carrageenan-induced inflammation response micro-environment in vivo and in vitro. We found that CB/Lid-10 could selectively kill tumor by blocking blood supply, inhibiting cell proliferation, and promoting cell apoptosis. CB/Lid-10 could also release Lid to relieve post-operative pain, mainly by remodeling the harsh inflammation micro-environment (IME). CONCLUSIONS: In summary, CB/Lid-10 has relatively good biocompatibility and bioactivity, and it can serve as a promising candidate for painless transcatheter arterial embolization.

PURPOSE: To analyze the clinical safety and efficacy of 3.0-T closed MR-guided microwave ablation (MWA) for the treatment of HCC located under the hepatic dome. METHODS: From May 2018 to October 2020, 49 patients with 74 HCCs located under the hepatic dome underwent MWA using 3.0-T closed MR guidance. The technical success rate, operative time, complete ablation (CA) rate, complications, local tumor progression (LTP), tumor-free survival (TFS) and overall survival (OS) were examined. Routine blood analysis, liver/kidney function and alpha fetoprotein (AFP) and protein induced by vitamin k absent or antagonist (PIVKA) levels were compared before and 2 months after MWA. RESULTS: All patients underwent MWA successfully, including 10 patients who underwent general anesthesia. The technical success rate was 100% without major complications. The CA rate was 95.9% (71/74) at the 2-month evaluation. The LTP rate was 2.7% during the median follow-up of 17.8 months (range: 4-43 months); the 6-, 12-, 18-month TFS rates were 97.8, 90.6, 68.1%, respectively, and the 6-, 12-, 18-month OS rates were 100, 97.6, 92.1%, respectively. There were no significant changes in routine blood tests and liver/kidney function (p > 0.05), while the AFP and PIVKA level decreased significantly at 2 months (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: 3.0-T MR-guided MWA is safe and feasible for HCC lesions located under the hepatic dome.

To investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of 3.0 T wide-bore magnetic resonance (MR)-guided microwave ablation (MA) of liver metastases (LM). From October 2018 to May 2020, 39 patients with 63 LM were treated with 3.0 T wide-bore MR-guided 2450-MHz MA therapy. The procedure parameters, technical success, complications, biochemical index changes, local tumor response, local tumor progression (LTP), 12-month disease-free survival (DFS) and 12-month overall survival (OS) were recorded and analyzed. The mean tumor maximum diameter and total procedure time were 3.0 cm and 55.2 min, respectively. Technical success was 100%, but 5 cases (12.8%) had grade-1 complications. Alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase and total bilirubin showed a slight transient increase on day 3 (P < 0.05) and returned to normal by day 30 (P > 0.05). The complete ablation rates for ≤ 2.5 and > 2.5 cm lesions were 100% and 92.5%, respectively. During the median follow-up of 12.0 months, the LTP rate was 4.8% (3/63), and the 12-month DFS and OS rates were 61.3% and 92.2%, respectively. 3.0 T wide-bore MR-guided MA for LM is a safe and effective approach, especially for small LM.

Background: Angiographic computed tomography (CT) is useful in various medical contexts, but little research has been presented regarding the application of cone beam CT (CBCT) in airway stenting. This study set out to evaluate the clinical feasibility of using CBCT in airway stent placement in a single-center retrospective cohort. Methods: A total of 228 patients with stenosis or fistula diseases were treated with metallic airway stents in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 1, 2015, to December 31, 2018. Of them, 128 patients underwent fluoroscopy-guided airway stenting. CBCT scanning was performed on the other 100 patients during and after treatment, and their images were compared with those from postoperative multidetector CT (MDCT). The outcomes and complications in the CBCT-guided and fluoroscopy-guided groups were also assessed via Pearson's χ2 test or Fisher's exact test. Results: Tracheal stenting was performed successfully on the first attempt for 90 patients in the CBCT-guided group and 123 patients in the fluoroscopy-guided group. The mean measured diameters of the central airway in the CBCT images and MDCT images were 18.2±2.81 and 19.0±2.33 mm, respectively, and the mean lengths were 58.7±16.82 and 58.5±17.06 mm, respectively. In the CBCT-guided group and the fluoroscopy-guided group, the mean scores for visibility of the distal bronchus were 3.7±0.49 and 3.9±0.34, respectively; the mean scores for the pulmonary parenchyma were 3.3±0.71 and 3.9±0.31, respectively; and the mean scores for the airway above the upper stent graft were 1.8±0.41 and 4.0±0.20, respectively. Two of the three anatomical areas were reproduced in a diagnostically relevant way. The major complications rate was 7% and 19% in the CBCT-guided and fluoroscopy-guided groups, respectively. Conclusions: CBCT produces images with sufficient quality to replace MDCT as a reasonable control measure after stent implantation, and its use during surgery reduces complications relating to airway stent placement.

The velvet antler is a unique model for cancer and regeneration research due to its periodic regeneration and rapid growth. Antler growth is mainly triggered by the growth center located in its tip, which consists of velvet skin, mesenchyme and cartilage. Among them, cartilage accounts for most of the growth center. We performed an integrative analysis of the antler cartilage transcriptome and proteome at different antler growth stages. RNA-seq results revealed 24,778 unigenes, 19,243 known protein-coding genes, and 5535 new predicted genes. Of these, 2722 were detected with differential expression patterns among 30 d, 60 d, and 90 d libraries, and 488 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened at 30 d vs. 60 d and 60 d vs. 90 d but not at 30 d vs. 90 d. Proteomic data identified 1361 known proteins and 179 predicted novel proteins. Comparative analyses showed 382 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs), of which 16 had differential expression levels at 30 d vs. 60 d and 60 d vs. 90 d but not at 30 d vs. 90 d. An integrated analysis conducted for DEGs and DEPs showed that gene13546 and its coding protein protein13546 annotated in the Wnt signaling pathway may possess important bio-logical functions in rapid antler growth. This study provides in-depth characterization of candidate genes and proteins, providing further insights into the molecular mechanisms controlling antler development.

AIM: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of balloon occlusion at the Zone II aorta for the management of morbidly adherent placenta. METHODS: From September 2015 to October 2018, a total of 80 consecutive patients who were prenatally diagnosed with morbidly adherent placenta were assigned into two groups: the balloon occlusion group (n = 40) and the non-balloon occlusion group (n = 40).The intraoperative estimated blood loss, blood transfusion, urine output, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen and hysterectomy rate were recorded and compared between the two groups. RESULTS: The estimated blood loss in the balloon occlusion group was significantly lower than that in the non-balloon occlusion group (811.75 ± 299.93 ml vs 1529.75 ± 808.01 ml, P < 0.001). The median amount of packed RBCs transfused in the balloon occlusion group and non-balloon occlusion group was 0 U and 2 U, respectively (P = 0.001). The women in the former group had a lower blood transfusion rate than those in the latter group (30% vs 57.5%, P = 0.013). Hysterectomy occurred in none in the balloon occlusion group but in six patients in the non-balloon occlusion group (P = 0.011). CONCLUSION: The middle abdominal aorta (Zone II) is not a forbidden zone for occlusion as long as the single occlusion time is limited to 15 min. Balloon occlusion at the Zone II aorta can effectively reduce blood loss, transfusion requirements and hysterectomy rates in patients with morbidly adherent placenta.

A tiny and compact implantable antenna for wireless cardiac pacemaker systems is designed. The antenna works in the Industrial Scientific Medical (ISM) frequency band (2.4-2.48 GHz). The size of the antenna is greatly reduced with the adoption of a high dielectric constant medium and a folded meander structure. The volume of the antenna is 4.5 mm3, and the size is only 3 mm × 3 mm × 0.5 mm. Based on the literature research, it was found that the design was the smallest among the same type of implanted antenna. The antenna is optimized and loaded with a defective slotted structure, which improves the efficiency of the overall performance of the antenna and thus the gain thereof. The antenna maintains good impedance matching in the ISM frequency band, covering the entire ISM frequency band. The actual bandwidth of the antenna is 22%, with the peak gain of - 24.9 dBi. The antenna is processed and manufactured in such a manner that the simulation keeps consistent with the actual measurement. In addition, the specific absorption rate of the antenna is also evaluated and analyzed. The result shows that this kind of antenna is the best choice to realize the wireless biological telemetry communication in the extremely compact space of the wireless cardiac pacemaker system.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of increasing zone II resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) occlusion times on physiological, end-organ and inflammatory responses in rabbits to assess the safe aortic occlusion time in a normovolemic rabbit model. METHODS: The zone ll aorta was occluded with a balloon in 32 rabbits (8 animals each for 15, 30, 60, and 90 min). 8 rabbits served as a control. ELISAs were used to examine the serum levels of ALT, AST, Cr, BUN, MDA, SOD, IL-8, IL-6, and TNF-α; HE staining was used to identify the morphological changes in the kidney; RT-PCR was used to detect the mRNA levels of IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α and NF-κB in the kidney and uterus; and Western blotting was used to measure the protein expression levels of IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α and NF-κB in the kidney and uterus. RESULTS: Plasma concentrations of liver markers, kidney markers, inflammatory factors and oxidative stress indicators were significantly increased at the end of reperfusion in the 30 min, 60 min and 90 min groups. Damage to the kidney occurred in the 30 min, 60 min and 90 min groups. The mRNA and protein expression levels of IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α and NF-κB in the kidney and uterus were significantly increased at the end of reperfusion in the 30 min group, and as the time of occlusion extended, these levels continued to increase. CONCLUSION: Activation of systemic inflammation and ischaemia-reperfusion injury of end-organs occurred when the occlusion time reached 30 min. Therefore, 15 min should be regarded as a safe period of REBOA in zone II.

125I seeds can effectively inhibit the growth of a variety of cancer cells. It has been used in the treatment of a variety of cancers, and has achieved certain curative effect. However, to the best of our knowledge, no report has described the effects of 125I seeds on the biological functions of cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) and the mechanisms underlying the effects of the seeds on this cancer. In this study, we demonstrated that 125I seeds could inhibit the proliferation, migration and invasion of CCA cells, as well as promoting apoptosis and blocking the cell cycle in these cells. Moreover, 125I seeds inhibited the growth of CCA xenografts and promoted the apoptosis of CCA cells in vivo. Furthermore, transcriptome sequencing showed that 125I seeds could inhibit the growth of CCA by inhibiting the expression of AGR2 and regulating p38 MAPK pathway. Finally, this finding indicated that 125I seeds can inhibit proliferation and promote apoptosis in CCA cells by inhibiting the expression of AGR2 and DUSP1 and increasing the expression of p-p38 MAPK and p-p53. This study provides a new research direction for studies investigating the mechanisms underlying the effects of 125I seeds on CCA.

Anti-inflammatory and antihyperplasia activities are essential requirements for the successful use of airway stents. In this work, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and cisplatin (DDP) were combined in a synergistic modification strategy to improve the surface function of airway stents. Using polycaprolactone (PCL) as a drug carrier, a dual-functional PCL-AgNPs-DDP fiber film-coated airway stent was fabricated by electrospinning. The physicochemical and biological properties of the obtained fiber films were examined. The ATR-FTIR, XPS, SEM-EDS and TEM results suggested that AgNPs and DDP could be successfully immobilized onto the airway stent surface. The drug release and surface degradation results revealed that AgNPs and DDP can undergo sustained release from films for 30 d, and the weight loss was approximately 50% after 35 d. In addition, the dual-functional fiber film suppressed human embryonic lung fibroblast growth and exhibited excellent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the dual-functional fiber film-coated airway stent was evaluated by application to the trachea of New Zealand rabbits. The in vivo results indicated that PCL-AgNPs-DDP fiber film-coated airway stent can significantly inhibit granulation tissue formation and collagen deposition, reduced the expression of IL-8, TNF-α, IL-1α, PCNA, α-SMA and CD68, and ultimately achieved anti-inflammatory and antihyperplasia effects. Hence, this study provides a dual-functional surface-coated airway stent to address the clinical complications associated with respiratory tract inflammation and granulation tissue hyperplasia, thus inhibiting tracheal stenosis.

Site-specific release of therapeutics at the infected trachea remains a great challenge in clinic. This work aimed to develop a series of vancomycin (VA)-loaded polycaprolactone (PCL) composite nanofiber films (PVNF-n, n = 0, 1, and 5, respectively) via the electrospinning technique. The physiochemical and biological properties of PVNF-n were evaluated by a series of tests, such as FT-IR, XRD, SEM-EDS, and antibacterial assay. The PVNF-n samples displayed a typical network structure of fibers with random directions. VA was successfully introduced into the PCL nanofibers and could be sustained and released. More importantly, PVNF-5 showed relatively good antibacterial activity against both methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Streptococcus pneumoniae (SPn). Thus, PVNF-5 was covered onto the self-expandable metallic stent and then implanted into a New Zealand rabbit model to repair tracheal stenosis. Compared to a metallic stent, a commercial pellosil matrix-covered stent, and a PVNF-0-covered metallic stent, the PVNF-5-covered airway stent showed reduced granulation tissue thickness, collagen density, α-SMA, CD68, TNF-α, IL-1, and IL-6 expression. In conclusion, this work provides an anti-infection film-covered airway stent that in site restrains tracheal stenosis.

To compare stent-induced granulation tissue hyperplasia of bare (SEMS), polyurethane-covered (PU-SEMS) and electrospun nanofibre-covered (EN-SEMS) self-expandable metallic stents in the rabbit trachea. Twenty-seven rabbits were randomly assigned to 3 groups that received SEMS, PU-SEMS or EN-SEMS. Computed tomography and sacrifice were performed as scheduled. Haematoxylin-eosin and Masson's trichrome staining protocols were performed for pathological analysis. The data for tracheal ventilation area ratio, qualitative histological scoring, number of epithelial layers, and thicknesses of papillary projection and submucosa were documented and statistically analysed. All stents were successfully placed under the guidance of fluoroscopy without complications. Post-stenting 3 and 7 days, computed tomography revealed that the fully expandable EN-SEMS was similar to the SEMS and PU-SEMS. The mean stented tissue score in the SEMS group was higher than those of both the PU-SEMS and EN-SEMS groups at 3 days post-stenting. The pathological findings suggested that there was no papillary projection formation 3 days after stent placement. The thickness of papillary projection in the SEMS group was significantly higher than those of the PU-SEMS and EN-SEMS groups at 7 days post-stenting. After stenting 4 weeks, the tracheal ventilation area ratio of SEMS, PU-SEMS and EN-SEMS was 0.214 ± 0.021, 0.453 ± 0.028 and 0.619 ± 0.033, respectively. There were significant between-group differences. In conclusion, the stent-induced granulation tissue formation in EN-SEMS is less severe than that of PU-SEMS and SEMS. EN-SEMS has smaller radial force, and the tracheal ventilation ratio after stent placement better than that of PU-SEMS.
