RESUMO

In order to obtain high-performance all-small-molecule organic solar cells (ASM-OSCs), it is crucial to exploit the available strategy for molecular design and to further understand key structure-property relationship that can rationally control the blend nanomorphology and influence the physical process. In this work, we design two small molecule donors FBD-S1 and TBD-S2 with identical electron-withdrawing units but various asymmetric central cores, which exhibit differing phase separation in Y6-based blend films. It is found that TBD-S2 with increased phase separation between donor and acceptor can lead to more favorable interpenetrating networks, effective exciton dissociation, and enhanced and more balanced charge transport. Importantly, a remarkable PCE of 13.1% is obtained for TBD-S2:Y6 based ASM-OSCs, which is an attractive photovoltaic performance for ASM-OSCs. This result demonstrates that the central core modification at the atomic level for small molecule donors can delicately control the phase separation and optimize photophysical processes, and refines device performance, which facilitate development in the ASM-OSC research field.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is an infrequent, highly lethal skin infection that spreads rapidly, marked by fascia and subcutaneous tissue necrosis. It occurs in the absence of a known causative factor. Its emergence after sterile orthopedic fixation with unexpected spread to the abdomen may turn to be challenging both as a medical and surgical emergency. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 56-year-old diabetic female presented with multiple fractures. After open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with iliac crest grafting of hip fracture, she developed incisional NF which later spread to the abdomen. DIAGNOSIS: Post-ORIF of hip fracture complicated with idiopathic NF and abdominal spread. INTERVENTIONS: She underwent emergency débridements with negative pressure wound therapy and broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotic therapy. After granulation, the wounds were closed with skin flaps and grafts with antibiotic beads. When the NF spread to the abdomen, additional débridements during abdominal explorations were performed. OUTCOMES: The patient was initially stable with promising healings of the wounds. Later, the patient suddenly developed a high fever and severe abdominal pain. Ultrasound revealed that NF emerged unexpectedly in the right lower abdomen. The causative agent of the NF remained undetected. Despite all the extensive treatments, the patient's condition deteriorated rapidly. She died of septic shock and multiple organ failure. CONCLUSION: The idiopathic NF may still potentially occur after a clean ORIF of the hip region. The implementation of intensive guideline-based treatments may show improvements, but the risk of unexpected NF spread to the abdomen should be anticipated, which may increase the mortality rates in diabetic or immunocompromised patients.

RESUMO

A series of new boron-containing benzoxaborole compounds was designed and synthesized for a continuing structure-activity relationship (SAR) investigation to assess the antimalarial activity changes derived from side-chain structural variation, substituent modification on the benzene ring and removal of boron from five-membered oxaborole ring. This SAR study demonstrated that boron is required for the antimalarial activity, and discovered that three fluoro-substituted 7-(2-carboxyethyl)-1,3-dihydro-1-hydroxy-2,1-benzoxaboroles (9, 14 and 20) have excellent potencies (IC(50) 0.026-0.209 µM) against Plasmodium falciparum.

RESUMO

A series of boron-containing benzoxaborole compounds was designed and synthesized for a structure-activity relationship investigation surrounding 7-(HOOCCH(2)CH(2))-1,3-dihydro-1-hydroxy-2,1-benzoxaborole (1) with the goal of discovering a new antimalarial treatment. Compound 1 demonstrates the best potency (IC(50)=26nM) against Plasmodium falciparum and has good drug-like properties, with low molecular weight (206.00), low ClogP (0.86) and high water solubility (750µg/mL at pH 7).

RESUMO

We report the first catalytic Sakurai reaction of N-alkoxycarbonylamino sulfones with allylsilanes. The allylation reaction of N-alkoxycarbonylamino phenylsulfones with allyltrimethylsilane proceeded smoothly with low catalyst loading of bismuth triflate (2.0 mol%) to afford the corresponding protected homoallylic amines in moderate to very good yields (up to 96%).
