RESUMO

Lithium-titanium-sulfur cathodes have gained attention because of their unique properties and have been studied for their application in lithium-ion batteries. They offer different advantages such as lower cost, higher safety, and higher energy density with respect to commonly adopted transition metal oxides. Moreover, this family of compounds is free from critical raw materials such as cobalt and nickel. For cathode materials, a crucial aspect is evaluating the evolution and behavior of the structure and properties during the cycling process, which means simulating the system under lithium extraction and insertion. Structural optimization, electronic band structures, density of states, and Raman spectra were simulated, looking for fingerprints and peculiar aspects related to the delithiation and overlithiation process. Lithium transport properties were also investigated through the nudged elastic band methodology. This allowed us to evaluate the diffusion coefficient of lithium, which is a crucial parameter for cathode performance evaluation.

RESUMO

Percolation behavior of a copper (Cu) layer on a multi-walled carbon nanotube/polypropylene (MWCNT/PP) nanocomposite substrate after laser-direct-structuring (LDS) and subsequent autocatalytic Cu deposition (ACD) is presented. The inverse sheet resistance showed percolation type dependence on the area fraction of Cu on MWCNT/PP measured by digital image processing of specimen photos.

RESUMO

In this work a novel colour-difference measurement method for the quality evaluation of copper deposited on a polymer is proposed. Laser-induced selective activation (LISA) was performed onto the surface of the polycarbonate/acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (PC/ABS) polymer by using nanosecond laser irradiation. The laser activated PC/ABS polymer was copper plated by using the electroless copper plating (ECP) procedure. The sheet resistance measured by using a four-point probe technique was found to decrease by the power law with the colour-difference of the sample images after LISA and ECP procedures. The percolation theory of the electrical conductivity of the insulator conductor mixture has been adopted in order to explain the experimental results. The new proposed method was used to determine an optimal set of the laser processing parameters for best plating conditions.

RESUMO

Colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals are promising luminophores for creating a new generation of electroluminescence devices. Research on semiconductor nanocrystal based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) has made remarkable advances in just one decade: the external quantum efficiency has improved by over two orders of magnitude and highly saturated color emission is now the norm. Although the device efficiencies are still more than an order of magnitude lower than those of the purely organic LEDs there are potential advantages associated with nanocrystal-based devices, such as a spectrally pure emission color, which will certainly merit future research. Further developments of nanocrystal-based LEDs will be improving material stability, understanding and controlling chemical and physical phenomena at the interfaces, and optimizing charge injection and charge transport.
