RESUMO

We investigated the ultrasonic imaging characteristics of transplanted kidneys with delayed graft function (DGF). Ultrasonography was performed in 44 patients after kidney transplantation, and a time-intensity analysis was performed to compare the differences between patients with normal graft function (NGF) and those with DGF. Compared with the NGF group, the DGF group had earlier arrival time, shorter time to peak, and higher arrival intensity and peak intensity (P < 0.05). The variation-of-intensity parameters in different renal cortices increased, whereas the variation-of-time parameter decreased, in those with DGF (P < 0.05). In conclusion, compared with the NGF group, the microcirculation perfusion of transplanted kidneys in the DGF group showed higher perfusion with earlier arrival time, shorter time to peak, and higher arrival intensity and peak intensity. In addition, the intensity variations of contrast agent in different renal cortices from patients with DGF were greater, whereas the variations in perfusion time were smaller than those in patients with NGF.

RESUMO

Parenchyma vascular malformation (VM) is a common disease in modern society. Here, we investigated the clinical effects and safety of interventional therapy (IT) on the treatment of parenchyma VM. From January 1998 to December 2010, 31 patients with VM who elected IT were investigated, including 11 cases of venous VM and 20 cases of arteriovenous malformation. There were 19 males and 12 females, ranging from 12 to 51 years in age. VM often occurred in the four limbs and other areas, such as the trunk and reproductive organs. Under the guidance of digital subtraction angiography, vascular hardener was injected into the VM spot via percutaneous puncture. Then, embolotherapy was conducted via the transcatheter feeding artery. We found that, in all cases, the malformed vessels were completely or partially blocked. After treatment, the local swelling of vessels was alleviated and the diabrosis and bleeding ceased. The soft tissue lump shrank, then stiffened and became fixed. There was no occurrence of severe intraoperative or postoperative complications in any patient. In summary, IT is an effective method for treating parenchyma VM, causes only a minor operative wound, and should be viewed as the first choice intervention.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: A multivariate logistic regression analysis model for predicting ectopic pregnancy in women with pregnancy of unknown location was designed and evaluated clinically. METHODS: Endometrial thickness, symmetry, resonance, pattern of echogenicity, helicine artery blood flow and blood flow resistance index (RI) in 129 patients with suspected early ectopic pregnancy were assessed by transvaginal power Doppler ultrasonography. Variables significant in univariate logistic regression analysis were included in a multivariate predictive logistic regression analysis model. RESULTS: The final predictive model included three factors: endometrial thickness≤9 mm; a multilayered endometrial echogenicity pattern with prominent outer and midline hyperechogenic lines and an inner hypoechogenic region; and visible endometrial arterial blood flow. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the model was 0.980. When RI was >0.65 and the predictive probability>0.50, diagnostic accuracy was high. The model correctly diagnosed 52/55 (94.5%) clinically confirmed ectopic pregnancy cases. CONCLUSION: This multivariate predictive logistic regression analysis model has clinical value for the differential diagnosis of early ectopic pregnancy when the pregnancy location is unknown.

RESUMO

The dependence of angular distributions of fast electrons generated in the interaction of p-polarized femtosecond laser pulses with foil targets on laser intensities is investigated. A novel fast electron beam along the front target surface is observed for high laser intensity. It is found that the electron acceleration along the target surface is more efficient than those in other directions.

RESUMO

The complete nucleotide sequence of a Beijing isolate of Wisteria vein mosaic virus was determined to be 9695 nucleotides in length excluding the poly(A) tail. Sequence analysis predicted a single large open reading frame of 9279 nucleotides potentially encodes a polyprotein of 3092 amino acids. Phylogenetic analysis based on the genomic and deduced amino acid sequences support the current status of Wisteria vein mosaic virus (WVMV) as a distinct virus of the genus Potyvirus and a member of the Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) subgroup. Sequence comparisons of WVMV and other members of the BCMV subgroup showed that WVMV is most closely related to both soybean mosaic virus and watermelon mosaic virus.

RESUMO

A novel fast electron beam emitting along the surface of a target irradiated by intense laser pulses is observed. The beam is found to appear only when the plasma density scale length is small. Numerical simulations reveal that the electron beam is formed due to the confinement of the surface quasistatic electromagnetic fields. The results are of interest for potential applications of fast electron beams and deep understanding of the cone-target physics in the fast ignition related experiments.

RESUMO

The pharmacological treatment of bronchial asthma is based on the inhalation of bronchodilative beta2 agonists and steroid hormones. In view of the therapeutic successes obtained with evening primrose oil in the treatment of neurodermatitis in children, the question arises whether this phytotherapeutic substitution therapy could at least partly replace symptomatic pharmacotherapy in bronchial asthma. It is shown that this will only be successful if one dispenses with the anti-inflammatory effect of the treatment with steroid hormones.

RESUMO

Persistent activation of the neuroendocrine stress axis is the major cause of a continuous catabolic alteration of the metabolism. This often causes an oxidative stress situation with increased release of O2 and NO radicals and pro-inflammatory cytokines. For the correction of these metabolic states, an adequate supply of plant-based antioxidants, especially flavonoids and tannins, is indicated. These are plant-based polyphenols which, like vitamins cannot be synthesized by the animal organism. Vitamin E in combination with vitamin C and beta-carotene are currently considered worldwide as the standard antioxidative therapy. However, it has recently been shown that, depending on the iron status of the recipient, pharmacological doses of these vitamins sometimes have beneficial, but often also no effect or harmful effects, so that, for a more reliable antoxidative action, adequate dietary supply of a mixture of flavonoids and tannins seems preferable.

RESUMO

The task of the immune system is the continuous elimination of endogenous cellular debris and the elimination, when necessary, of exogenous structures. It therefore seems useful and practical to add to the paradigms 'self' and 'not self' the term 'altered self'. The concept of stress, introduced by W. B. Cannon and H. Selye in the 1930s, covers the wide range of aggressive environmental influences which for their part result in a uniform shift of the metabolism in the direction of catabolism. This results from the activation of the neuroendocrine stress axis, hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenals, and causes an increased release of catecholamines and glucocorticoids. These latter substances limit life-threatening acute-phase reactions by endogenous inflammation mediators. The purpose of the shift of the cytokine profiles of the CD4 lymphocytes from Th-1 to Th-2 is, with the return of a raised cortisol level to normal values, to temporarily take over the anti-inflammatory functions of the cortisol. A sustained Th-2 shift is an expression of a persistent hypercortisolism in autoimmune states. The suppression of the anti-inflammatory effects of cortisol as a result of states of excessive stress leads to hypercatabolic diseases such as AIDS, sepsis and toxic shock syndrome and protein calorie malnutrition (NAIDS). In the prevention and treatment of AIDS and NAIDS, besides the elimination of the causes of stress, the prophylactic and therapeutic efforts are based mainly on the activation of the mesenchymal production of anabolic matrix components, mainly glycosaminoglycans, and the neutralization of O2 and NO radicals and inflammation mediators from macrophages by polyanions and polyphenols. In our opinion, in sepsis and toxic shock syndromes, lasting reduction of the mortality rates for these diseases is best achieved through the early administration of high intravenous doses of gammaglobulins.

RESUMO

This study reports the phenotype frequencies (PF) and gene frequencies (GF) of a homogeneous Sichuan Han Chinese population by typing of unrelated 229 individuals and 16 families for HLA-A, B, C, DR and DQ antigens. The frequencies of Bw67, Bw71, DRw12, DRw13 and DRw14 are the first to be reported in Chinese. Two two-locus haplotypes with significant linkage disequilibrium among the Sichuan have also been listed.
