RESUMO

Previous studies have found that the occurrence of maritime accidents often lacks a sound environment management mechanism. The reason is that maritime safety needs management functions to promote each other. This study aims to assess the risk analysis of maritime accidents, applying balanced scorecard (BSC) concepts integrating decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) with analytic network process (ANP). The empirical results are that the balanced scorecard could be applied as a maritime procedure management method in maritime risk analysis. A total of 30 questionnaires were collected via scholar questionnaire, and five criteria or key factors for strengthening risk assessment of marine accidents were determined. According to the application of BSC, the risk analysis criteria constructed can assist maritime authorities to reduce the maritime accidents.

BACKGROUND: d-glutamate, which is involved in N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor modulation, may be associated with cognitive ageing. AIMS: This study aimed to use peripheral plasma d-glutamate levels to differentiate patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) from healthy individuals and to evaluate its prediction ability using machine learning. METHODS: Overall, 31 healthy controls, 21 patients with MCI and 133 patients with AD were recruited. Serum d-glutamate levels were measured using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Cognitive deficit severity was assessed using the Clinical Dementia Rating scale and the Mini-Mental Status Examination (MMSE). We employed four machine learning algorithms (support vector machine, logistic regression, random forest and naïve Bayes) to build an optimal predictive model to distinguish patients with MCI or AD from healthy controls. RESULTS: The MCI and AD groups had lower plasma d-glutamate levels (1097.79 ± 283.99 and 785.10 ± 720.06 ng/mL, respectively) compared to healthy controls (1620.08 ± 548.80 ng/mL). The naïve Bayes model and random forest model appeared to be the best models for determining MCI and AD susceptibility, respectively (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve: 0.8207 and 0.7900; sensitivity: 0.8438 and 0.6997; and specificity: 0.8158 and 0.9188, respectively). The total MMSE score was positively correlated with d-glutamate levels (r = 0.368, p < 0.001). Multivariate regression analysis indicated that d-glutamate levels were significantly associated with the total MMSE score (B = 0.003, 95% confidence interval 0.002-0.005, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Peripheral plasma d-glutamate levels were associated with cognitive impairment and may therefore be a suitable peripheral biomarker for detecting MCI and AD. Rapid and cost-effective HPLC for biomarkers and machine learning algorithms may assist physicians in diagnosing MCI and AD in outpatient clinics.

The H9N2 avian influenza virus has been widely spread in poultry around the world. It is proved to the world that the avian influenza virus can directly infect human beings without any intermediate host adaptation in "1997 Hong Kong avian influenza case," which shows that the avian influenza virus not only causes significant losses to the poultry industry but also affects human health. In this study, we aimed to address the problem of low protection of avian H9N2 subtype influenza virus vaccine against H9N2 wild-type virus. We have rescued the H9.4.2.5 branched avian influenza virus isolated in South China by reverse genetics technology. We have recombined these virus (rHA/NA-GD37 and rHA/NA-GD38) which contain hemagglutinin and neuraminidase genes from the H9N2 avian influenza virus (MN064850 or MN064851) and 6 internal genes from the avian influenza virus (KY785906). We compared the biological properties of the virus for example virus proliferation, virus elution, thermostability, and pH stability. Then, we evaluated the immune effects between rHA/NA-GD37 and GD37, which show that the recombinant avian influenza virus-inactivated vaccine can stimulate chickens to produce higher antibody titers and produce little inflammatory response after the challenge. It is noticeable that the recombinant virus-inactivated vaccine had better immune impact than the wild-type inactivated vaccine. Generally speaking, this study provides a new virus strain for the development of a H9N2 vaccine.

Encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV) is as a potential zoonotic agent with a wide host range. Here, we describe an EMC virus isolate, identified as EMCV C15, which was successfully obtained from the serum of dogs from animal hospitals. Virus production in cell culture was confirmed by EMCV-specific real-time RT-PCR, indirect immunofluorescence assays and electron microscopy. In addition, the open reading frame sequence (ORF) of the EMCV C15 virus was determined. From sequence comparison and phylogenetic analysis among 24 reference EMCV strains, it appears that the EMCV C15 strain is closely genetically related to strain BEL2887A/91 (>99.0% nucleotide identity). In artificially challenged dogs, the heart and brain were important targets of EMCV C15. This study provides genetic and pathogenic characterization of the EMCV C15 strain isolated in Beijing and calls for sustained surveillance of EMCV infection in China to support better prevention and control of the disease.

Duck Tembusu virus (DTMUV) has spread to the major duck-farming region in China, causing acute egg-production drop in Chinese duck population. In this study, we characterized a DTMUV strain (named GD2014) isolated from an egg-production drop duck farm in Guangdong province, South China. The virus was pathogenic to Muscovy duck embryos and caused severe egg production drop for laying Muscovy ducks. The genome sequence of GD2014 shared 97-99% homologies with other waterfowl-origin Tembusu viruses, and shared 89% identities with MM1775 strain isolated from mosquito. Phylogenetic analysis of entire open reading frame (ORF), E gene and NS5 gene indicated that GD2014 belonged to Ntaya group. These results have implications for understanding the orgin, emergence and pathogenicity of DTMUV as well as for the development of vaccines and diagnostics based on epidemiological data.
