RESUMO

Three pargyline-phosphine copper(I) clusters, [Cu4(CC-C9H12N)3(PPh3)4](PF6) (1) and [Cu6(CC-C9H12N)4(dppy)4](X)2 (dppy = diphenyl-2-pyridylphosphine; X = PF6 for 2 and X = ClO4 for 3), were synthesized. Their structures were fully characterized using various spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography, which showed that the stoichiometry and nature of pargyline and phosphine ligands play an important role in tuning the structure and photophysical features of Cu(I) clusters. Interestingly, clusters 1, 2 and 3 exhibited red, orange and yellow phosphorescence with high quantum yields of 88.5%, 22.0% and 40.2%, respectively, at room temperature. Moreover, clusters 1-3 show distinct temperature-dependent emissions. The excellent luminescence performance of 1 and 3 was designed and employed for the construction of monochrome and white light-emitting devices (LEDs).

BACKGROUND: Extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma sarcoma is extremely rare in clinical practice. These cells consist of both epithelial and mesenchymal cells. Patient-derived cell lines that maintain tumor characteristics are valuable tools for studying the molecular mechanisms associated with carcinosarcoma. However, cholangiocarcinoma sarcoma cell lines are not available in cell banks. AIM: To establish and characterize a new extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma sarcoma cell line, namely CBC2T-2. METHODS: We conducted a short tandem repeat (STR) test to confirm the identity of the CBC2T-2 cell line. Furthermore, we assessed the migratory and invasive properties of the cells and performed clonogenicity assay to evaluate the ability of individual cells to form colonies. The tumorigenic potential of CBC2T-2 cells was tested in vivo using non-obese diabetic/severe combined immunodeficient (NOD/SCID) mice. The cells were injected subcutaneously and tumor formation was observed. In addition, immunohistochemical analysis was carried out to examine the expression of epithelial marker CK19 and mesenchymal marker vimentin in both CBC2T-2 cells and xenografts. The CBC2T-2 cell line was used to screen the potential therapeutic effects of various clinical agents in patients with cholangiocarcinoma sarcoma. Lastly, whole-exome sequencing was performed to identify genetic alterations and screen for somatic mutations in the CBC2T-2 cell line. RESULTS: The STR test showed that there was no cross-contamination and the results were identical to those of the original tissue. The cells showed round or oval-shaped epithelioid cells and mesenchymal cells with spindle-shaped or elongated morphology. The cells exhibited a high proliferation ratio with a doubling time of 47.11 h. This cell line has migratory, invasive, and clonogenic abilities. The chromosomes in the CBC2T-2 cells were polyploidy, with numbers ranging from 69 to 79. The subcutaneous tumorigenic assay confirmed the in vivo tumorigenic ability of CBC2T-2 cells in NOD/SCID mice. CBC2T-2 cells and xenografts were positive for both the epithelial marker, CK19, and the mesenchymal marker, vimentin. These results suggest that CBC2T-2 cells may have both epithelial and mesenchymal characteristics. The cells were also used to screen clinical agents in patients with cholangiocarcinoma sarcoma, and a combination of paclitaxel and gemcitabine was found to be the most effective treatment option. CONCLUSION: We established the first human cholangiocarcinoma sarcoma cell line, CBC2T-2, with stable biogenetic traits. This cell line, as a research model, has a high clinical value and would facilitate the understanding of the pathogenesis of cholangiocarcinoma sarcoma.

INTRODUCTION: Pulsed dye laser (PDL) is currently considered to be the first-line treatment for port-wine stains (PWSs) on the extremities despite its less than satisfactory therapeutic efficacy. Hemoporfin-mediated photodynamic therapy (HMME-PDT) is a vascular-targeted therapy that has rarely been used to treat PWSs on the extremities. Here, we evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of HMME-PDT for the treatment of PWSs on the extremities. METHODS: Clinical data and dermoscopic images of PWSs on the extremities were obtained from 65 patients who underwent HMME-PDT between February 2019 and December 2022. The clinical efficacy of HMME-PDT was analyzed by comparing the pre- and post-treatment images. The safety of HMME-PDT was evaluated through observation during the treatment period and post-treatment follow-up. RESULTS: The efficacy rate of a single HMME-PDT session was 63.0% and that of two and three to six sessions was 86.7% and 91.3%, respectively. A positive correlation was found between therapeutic efficacy and the number of HMME-PDT sessions. The therapeutic efficacy of HMME-PDT was better on the proximal extremities than on other parts of the extremities (P = 0.038), and the efficacy of treating PWSs in each site was relatively improved with an increase of treatment time. The clinical efficacy of HMME-PDT differed across four PWS vascular patterns identified by dermoscopy (P = 0.019). However, there was no statistical difference in the therapeutic efficacy based on age, sex, type of PWS, and treatment history (P > 0.05), which may be partly attributed to the relatively small sample size or poor cooperation of infant patients. No obvious adverse reactions were observed during the follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS: HMME-PDT is a very safe and effective treatment for PWSs on the extremities. Multiple HMME-PDT treatments, lesions located in proximal limbs, and PWSs with type I and IV vascular patterns under dermoscopy were associated with higher efficacy of HMME-PDT. Dermoscopy may help predict the clinical efficacy of HMME-PDT. TRIAL REGISTRATION NO: 2020KJT085.

Introduction: The incidence of cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) has increased worldwide in recent years. Given the poor prognosis associated with the current management approach of CCA, new therapeutic agents are warranted to improve the prognosis of this patient population. Methods: In this study, we extracted five cardiac glycosides (CGs) from natural plants: digoxin, lanatoside A, lanatoside C, lanatoside B, and gitoxin. Follow-up experiments were performed to assess the effect of these five extracts on cholangiocarcinoma cells and compounds with the best efficacy were selected. Lanatoside C (Lan C) was selected as the most potent natural extract for subsequent experiments. We explored the potential mechanism underlying the anticancer activity of Lan C on cholangiocarcinoma cells by flow cytometry, western blot, immunofluorescence, transcriptomics sequencing, network pharmacology and in vivo experiments. Results: We found that Lan C time-dependently inhibited the growth and induced apoptosis of HuCCT-1 and TFK-1 cholangiocarcinoma cells. Besides Lan C increased the reactive oxygen species (ROS) content in cholangiocarcinoma cells, decreased the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and resulted in apoptosis. Besides, Lan C downregulated the protein expression of STAT3, leading to decreased expression of Bcl-2 and Bcl-xl, increased expression of Bax, activation of caspase-3, and initiation of apoptosis. N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) pretreatment reversed the effect of Lan C. In vivo, we found that Lan C inhibited the growth of cholangiocarcinoma xenografts without toxic effects on normal cells. Tumor immunohistochemistry showed that nude mice transplanted with human cholangiocarcinoma cells treated with Lan C exhibited decreased STAT3 expression and increased caspase-9 and caspase-3 expression in tumors, consistent with the in vitro results. Conclusion: In summary, our results substantiates that cardiac glycosides have strong anti-CCA effects. Interestingly the biological activity of Lan C provides a new anticancer candidate for the treatment of cholangiocarcinoma.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors combined chemotherapy (ICIC) are widely used for various types of lung cancer in the past decade. However, ICIC related adverse events (AEs) are more serious than immune-related adverse events (irAE) or cytotoxic chemotherapy alone. Objective: This prospective interventional study aimed to evaluate the impact of the pharmaceutical care program in reducing adverse events and analyze pharmacy interventions in patients with NSCLC who receive ICIC therapies. Method: NSCLC patients were enrolled in this study, the pharmaceutical care program was introduced after patients received the second cycle ICIC therapies, and were followed by the pharmacist for 6 months after hospital discharge. The percentages of adverse events between patients in and after the first two cycles were analyzed and compared. Results: After the first two treatment cycles, the clinical pharmacist proposed 67 interventions in 30 patients. The most frequent types of intervention were drug discontinuation (40.3%, 27/67) followed by drug modification (14.9%, 10/67). There were significant decreases in AEs after the second cycle with respect to nausea (≥grade-2, 14% vs. 28.3%, p = 0.039), constipation (≥grade-2, 8.8% vs. 21.7%, p = 0.039), diarrhea (≥grade-2, 6% vs. 16.7%, p = 0.031), and myelosuppression (≥grade-2, 15.8% vs. 30.0%, p = 0.022). Conclusion: Provision of pharmaceutical care for NSCLC patients receiving ICIC therapies can optimize drug therapy and reduce adverse events.

AIM: To report on the clinical features, surgical outcomes and gene mutation analysis of three ectodermal dysplasia probands with ocular diseases. METHODS: A case-note review of three unrelated probands diagnosing with ectodermal dysplasia with ocular diseases was undertaken. Patient clinical features and the outcomes of surgery were analysed. The suspected pathogenic genes were analysed by whole exome sequencing from patients with ectodermal dysplasia and Sanger sequencing from family members. RESULTS: The ocular clinical features of ectodermal dysplasia with ocular diseases mainly include eyelid ectropion, lagophthalmos and absence of lacrimal punctum. All the probands underwent surgeries of full-thickness free skin flap grafting to correct ectropion. They achieved good recovery, and there were no obvious complications during the follow-up. The gene sequencing results did not show any meaningful genetic mutations. CONCLUSION: Lid ectropion is one of the key clinical traits of ectodermal dysplasia with ocular diseases. Ectropion correction with full-thickness free skin flap grafting is an effective procedure to correct ectropion for ectodermal dysplasia patients with ichthyosis-like tissue. The suspected pathogenic genes of ectodermal dysplasia with ectropion should be further verified or confirmed by large samples of the family.

Background: Post-stroke insomnia (PSI) affects the quality of life for stroke patients, reduces the likelihood of successful rehabilitation, and produces additional complications following stroke. Previous reports have provided some information regarding PSI risk factors, but little is known concerning protective factors for PSI. This study analyzed the relationship between acupuncture and insomnia in stroke patients and explored the use of acupuncture as a preventive treatment. Methods: Patients diagnosed with stroke from 2010 to 2019 were identified in the case database of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese These patients followed until 2020, and numerous factors were examined, including gender, age, stroke type, stroke location, and baseline comorbidities. A 1:1 propensity score was used to match an equal number of patients receiving acupuncture with stroke patients who did not receive acupuncture (N = 1,680 for each group). The purpose of the study was to compare the incidence of insomnia in these two stroke cohorts. We used the Cox regression model and Kaplan-Meier method to estimate the risk of insomnia as the outcome event. Results: Compared with the non-acupuncture cohort in general, stroke patients who received acupuncture treatment exhibited a lower risk of insomnia after adjusting for age, gender, stroke type, stroke location, and comorbidities (adjusted hazard ratio HR = 0.27, 95% confidential interval = 0.23 to 0.32). Acupuncture also reduced the risk of PSI for both genders. The respective risks were HR = 0.28 (adjusted) for males and HR = 0.26 (adjusted) for females. Acupuncture also lowered the risk for PSI for different age groups. The risks were HR = 0.22 (adjusted) for individuals 18 to 39 years of age, HR = 0.31 (adjusted) for individuals 40 to 59 years of age, HR = 0.28 (adjusted) for those 60 to 79 years of age, and HR = 0.18 (adjusted) for individuals 80 years of age and older. Concerning the stroke type, regardless of whether the stroke was ischemic, hemorrhagic, or a combination of the two stroke types, patients who received acupuncture exhibited lower risk (adjusted HR = 0.28, 0.17, and 0.49, respectively). Concerning stroke location, except for the cerebral hemispheres (adjusted HR = 1.10, 95% confidential interval = 0.12 to 1.01), the risk of PSI after receiving acupuncture was lower for the frontal lobe (adjusted HR = 0.42), the basal ganglia (adjusted HR = 0.22), the radiation crown (adjusted HR = 0.42), the diencephalon (adjusted HR = 0.20), or multiple partial strokes (adjusted HR = 0.26), the risk of PSI after receiving acupuncture was lower. For all baseline complications, acupuncture reduced the risk of insomnia. The cumulative incidence of insomnia in the acupuncture cohort was significantly lower than the non-acupuncture cohort (log-rank test, P = 0.000). Limitations: First, our research only included patients from a single center. Second, we did not classify the post-stroke insomnia severity. Second, the information was extracted manually. Overall, the sample size was small, and we needed to increase the sample size to strengthen the conclusions. Conclusion: Acupuncture treatment reduced the risk of insomnia in stroke patients. Future research be conducted with increased sample sizes and further elaboration on the specific acupuncture protocols that were used.

AIM: To investigate the suitability of a modified Hughes procedure, which consists of conjunctival flap with auricular cartilage grafting in reconstructing large full thickness upper and lower eyelid defect. METHODS: Patients with full thickness eyelid carcinoma involving more than 50% margin length who underwent surgical resection were retrospectively reviewed in the study. The defects were reconstructed using conjunctival flap with auricular cartilage grafting, covered with myocutaneous flap above. Followed-up time ranged from 12 to 24mo. Outcomes were classified as "good", "fair", and "poor" by evaluating the margin appearance, eyelid appearance, and complications. RESULTS: A total of 42 patients were enrolled in the study (26 males, 16 females, mean age, 68.6±7.7y, range: 53 to 82y). The mean defect widths measured 23.2±2.9 mm (range, 17 to 28 mm). The mean posterior lamellar defect height was 5.5±1.3 mm (4 to 8 mm). Thirty-seven patients had a "good" outcome (88.1%), 5 patients had a "fair" outcome (11.9%), and no one had a "poor" outcome. CONCLUSION: Conjunctival flap with auricular cartilage grafting and myocutaneous flap grafting is an effective procedure in reconstructing large full thickness upper and lower eyelid defect. It can not only achieve satisfied reconstruction, but also preserve intact tarsal plate of the opposite eyelid, avoiding retraction or entropion.

AIM: To retrospectively compare postoperative outcomes after primary enucleation and placement of a hydroxyapatite (HA) implant without wrapping, wrapped with auricular cartilage or donor sclera. METHODS: Medical records of patients presented as intraocular tumor or severe ocular injury were identified from the electronic medical record system. Cases underwent enucleation and HA orbital implantation were enrolled in this study and were divided into 3 groups according to the wrapping material of HA implant. Cases with autogenous cartilage caps were enrolled in group A (n=11), with donor sclera caps in group B (n=12), and without any wrapping material in group C (n=9). Follow-ups were set at 1, 2wk, 1, 3, 6, and 12mo after surgery. RESULTS: Altogether 32 cases finished the follow-up and were enrolled in this study. Three cases (27.27%) in group A, 4 cases (33.33%) in group B, and 4 cases (44.44%) in group C developed one complication each after surgery. In group A, no HA exposure occurred, but conjunctival inclusion cyst occurred in one and severe conjunctive chemosis in two cases. In group B, one HA exposure occurred, conjunctive inclusion cysts occurred in one, severe conjunctive chemosis occurred in one, and conjunctival granuloma occurred in one case. In group C, one HA exposure occurred, severe conjunctive chemosis occurred in two cases, and conjunctival granuloma occurred in one case. The case of exposure of none-wrapped implant was noted in the first 6mo after placement of the orbital implant. The case of exposure of donor sclera-wrapped implant was noted at the 12mo after placement of the orbital implant. Both exposure cases were treated successfully with conservative treatment. CONCLUSION: With low incidence of implant exposure and mild complications, auricular cartilage can be a good choice of alternative wrapping material of orbit implant with satisfied outcome.

BACKGROUND: A previous study showed that irrigation with 100 mL saline reduced residual common bile duct (CBD) stones, which potentially cause recurrent stones after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. AIM: To determine whether saline irrigation can improve CBD clearance after lithotripsy. METHODS: This prospective self-controlled study enrolled patients receiving mechanical lithotripsy for large (> 1.2 cm) CBD stones. After occlusion cholangiography confirmed CBD stone clearance, peroral cholangioscopy (POC) was performed to determine clearance scores based on the number of residual stones. The amounts of residual stones spotted via POC were graded on a 5-point scale (score 1, worst; score 5, best). Scores were documented after only stone removal (control) and after irrigation with 50 mL and 100 mL saline, respectively. The stone composition was analyzed using infrared spectroscopy. RESULTS: Between October 2018 and January 2020, 47 patients had CBD clearance scores of 2.4 ± 1.1 without saline irrigation, 3.5 ± 0.7 with 50 mL irrigation, and 4.6 ± 0.6 with 100 mL irrigation (P < 0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that CBD diameter > 15 mm [odds ratio (OR) = 0.08, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.01-0.49; P = 0.007] and periampullary diverticula (PAD) (OR = 6.51, 95%CI: 1.08-39.21; P = 0.041) were independent risk factors for residual stones. Bilirubin pigment stones constituted the main residual stones found in patients with PAD (P = 0.004). CONCLUSION: Irrigation with 100 mL of saline may not clear all residual CBD stones after lithotripsy, especially in patients with PAD and/or a dilated (> 15 mm) CBD. Pigment residual stones are soft and commonly found in patients with PAD. Additional saline irrigation may be required to remove retained stones.

BACKGROUND: Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism. Previous studies have found that serum uric acid (SUA) levels are associated with the total cancer risk. However, due to the dual effect of uric acid on cancer, the relationship between the SUA levels and most specific-site cancer remains unclear. AIM: To investigate the associations between the SUA levels and incidence of hepatobiliary-pancreatic cancer. METHODS: In this prospective cohort study, 444462 participants free of cancer from the UK Biobank were included. The SUA levels were measured at baseline, and the incidence of hepatobiliary-pancreatic cancer was determined by contacting the cancer registry. The hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) between the SUA levels and hepatobiliary-pancreatic cancer were investigated using multiple adjusted Cox regression models adjusted for potential confounders. RESULTS: In total, 920 participants developed liver, gallbladder, biliary tract or pancreatic cancer during a median of 6.6 yrs of follow-up. We found that the HR of pancreatic cancer in the highest SUA group was 1.77 (95%CI: 1.29-2.42) compared with that in the lowest group. After stratifying by gender, we further found that SUA was associated with an increased risk of pancreatic cancer only among the females (highest quartile vs lowest quartile HR 2.04, 95%CI: 1.35-3.08). Among the males, the SUA levels were positively associated with the gallbladder cancer risk (highest quartile vs lowest quartile HR 3.09, 95%CI: 1.28-7.46), but a U-shaped association with the liver cancer risk was observed (P-nonlinear = 0.03). CONCLUSION: SUA is likely to have gender-specific effects on hepatobiliary-pancreatic cancer. High SUA levels are a risk factor for pancreatic cancer in females and gallbladder cancer in males. A U-shaped association with the liver cancer risk was identified.

BACKGROUND: Chronic hepatitis B virus infection remains a major global public health problem. Peginterferon-alpha-2a (PEG-IFN) has direct antiviral and immunoregulatory effects, and it has become one of the first choice drugs for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Cytokines play an important role in immunity, and they directly inhibit viral replication and indirectly determine the predominant pattern of the host immune response. AIM: To determine the correlation between cytokine/chemokine expression levels and response to PEG-IFN treatment in patients with CHB. METHODS: Forty-six kinds of cytokines were analyzed before PEG-IFN therapy and at 24 wk during therapy in 26 CHB patients. RESULTS: The monokine induced by INF-γ (CXCL9) and serum interferon-inducible protein 10 ( IP-10) levels at baseline were higher in virological responders than in non-virological responders (NRs) and decreased during treatment, whereas the NRs did not exhibit significant changes. The macrophage inflammatory protein 1d (MIP-1d) levels at baseline and during treatment were significantly higher in the virological responders than in the NRs, while thymus and activation-regulated chemokine (TARC) levels at baseline and during treatment were significantly lower in the virological responders than in the NRs. The CXCL9, IP-10, MIP-1d, and TARC baseline levels exhibited the expected effects for interferon treatment. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values of CXCL9, IP-10, MIP-1d, and TARC for predicting virological responses were 0.787, 0.799, 0.787, and 0.77 (P = 0.01, 0.013, 0.01, and 0.021), respectively. CONCLUSION: We found that cytokine levels before and during treatment may represent potential biomarkers to select CHB patients who can respond to PEG-IFN. Therefore, cytokines can be used as an indicator of antiviral drug selection before CHB treatment.

Diabetic nephropathy is a major complication of diabetes mellitus (DM). Recent studies suggest that immunological mechanisms have a key role in the pathogenesis of DM, therefore these mechanisms may be important targets for diabetes therapy. The present study evaluated the effects of anti-α1-adrenergic receptor antibody (α1-R Ab) mediation and doxazosin treatment in a rat model of DM. It was observed that levels of 24-h urinary protein, serum creatinine and transforming growth factor-ß1 in DM were significantly increased after α1-R Ab mediation (all P<0.05). In addition, electron microscopy identified severe damage in the renal tissue microstructures of DM rats following α1-R Ab mediation, while only mild abnormalities were observed in that of healthy rats mediated with α1-R Ab and of untreated DM rats. No marked abnormalities were observed in the renal tissue of healthy blank controls. Furthermore, in DM rats treated with α1-R Ab mediation + doxazosin intervention, the expression of TGF-ß1 significantly decreased, and renal functions and renal matrix remodeling were significantly improved, relative to untreated DM controls (P<0.01). These results suggest that α1-R Ab may be involved in renal matrix remodeling during DM, and that kidney protection during DM may be achieved through treatment with corresponding receptor antagonists.

Objective To evaluate the role of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in treatment for biliary complications of hepatic hydatid disease. Methods From October 2010 to October 2016 , 27 patients who were admitted for hepatic hydatid disease underwent therapeutic ERCP pre- or post-operation, then we retrospectively analyzed the clinical manifestations, laboratory tests, imaging examinations, ERCP methods and therapeutic effects in perioperative period of ERCP. Results All the 27 patients who underwent ERCP pre-or post-operations because of biliary complications of hepatic hydatid disease obtained good treatment effect. There were some reasons for ERCP, 12 cases for acute suppurative cholangitis and obstructive jaundice caused by intrabiliary rupture and 7 for severe jaundice compress by large hepatic hydatid cyst, whereas 6 cases for biliary fistula and 2 for biliary stricture after operation. 6 indexes including white blood cell count (WBC), aspertate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), total bilirubin (TBIL), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) were significantly different between 24 hours pre- and 48 hours post- ERCP (P < 0.05), all the patients were improved after operation. Conclusion ERCP which is performed at pre- or post- operation may be an effective treatment for biliary complications of hepatic hydatid disease such as acute suppurative cholangitis, biliary fistula and stricture.

Microalbuminuria is associated with higher cardiovascular mortality, especially in diabetics. But the direct association between microalbuminuria and vascular wall properties is still not clear. We investigated quantitative carotid stiffness (QCS) index in relation to microalbuminuria in 260 Chinese diabetic patients. In categorical analyses, patients with elevated urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR) had higher QCS than those with normal uACR (P < 0.001). The corresponding values for QCS values were 4.4 and 5.9, respectively. In multiple stepwise regression analyses, QCS was significantly associated with age, uACR, plasma glycosylated hemoglobin A(1C) (HbA(1C)), and current smoking (P < 0.05 for all). In conclusion, carotid stiffness as measured by QCS, a local functional measurement of the arterial wall, is increased in type 2 diabetes with microalbuminuria.

We investigated carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) and quantitative carotid stiffness (QCS) index in relation to plasma glycosylated hemoglobin A(1C) (HbA(1C)) and duration of diabetes mellitus in 337 Chinese diabetic patients. In categorical analyses, carotid IMT was 710 mum in subjects with a duration of diabetes mellitus < or = 2 years, 760 micorm in subjects with a duration of diabetes mellitus more than two years and with plasma HbA(1C) < 6.5% (P < 0.05), and 790 microm in subjects with a duration of diabetes mellitus more than two years but with plasma HbA(1C) > or = 6.5% (P < 0.01). The corresponding values for QCS values were 4.5, 4.6 and 5.1 (P < 0.05), respectively. In multiple stepwise regression analyses carotid IMT was significantly associated with the duration of diabetes mellitus, systolic blood pressure and serum concentration of total cholesterol, whereas QCS was significantly associated with age, HbA(1C), systolic and diastolic blood pressure (P < 0.05). In conclusion, carotid IMT as a structural measure of arterial wall is increased in patients with a longer history of diabetes mellitus, whereas QCS as functional index is mainly influenced by the quality of blood glucose control.
