RESUMO

The chicken industry, in which broiler chickens are bred, is the largest poultry industry in Taiwan. In a traditional poultry house, breeders must usually observe the health of the broilers in person on the basis of their breeding experience at regular times every day. When a breeder finds unhealthy broilers, they are removed manually from the poultry house to prevent viruses from spreading in the poultry house. Therefore, in this study, we designed and constructed a novel small removal system for dead chickens for Taiwanese poultry houses. In the mechanical design, this system mainly contains walking, removal, and storage parts. It comprises robotic arms with a fixed end and sweep-in devices for sweeping dead chickens, a conveyor belt for transporting chickens, a storage cache for storing chickens, and a tracked vehicle. The designed system has dimensions of approximately 1.038 × 0.36 × 0.5 m3, and two dead chickens can be removed in a single operation. The walking speed of the chicken removal system is 3.3 cm/s. In order to enhance the automation and artificial intelligence in the poultry industry, the identification system was used in a novel small removal system. The conditions of the chickens in a poultry house can be monitored remotely by using a camera, and dead chickens can be identified through deep learning based on the YOLO v4 algorithm. The precision of the designed system reached 95.24% in this study, and dead chickens were successfully moved to the storage cache. Finally, the designed system can reduce the contact between humans and poultry to effectively improve the overall biological safety.

RESUMO

College of American Pathologists recommended that at least 12 lymph nodes should be harvested for adequate staging of colorectal carcinoma. Lymph node harvesting is routinely performed by a manual technique of inspection and palpation, which is laborious and time-consuming. The study assessed the influence of the improved fat-clearing technique on the number of lymph nodes retrieved from colorectal cancer specimens and the clinical efficacy. Seventy colorectal cancer resection specimens were examined and assessed by 4 pathology residents. Thirty-five specimens were handled with the conventional manual technique by inspection and palpation, and the other 35 specimens with the improved fat-clearing technique to retrieve lymph nodes. As a result, compared with the conventional manual technique, the numbers of lymph nodes retrieved with the improved fat-clearing technique were significantly increased from 14.7 ± 6.2 lymph nodes to 20.8 ± 9.0 lymph nodes per specimen (P < .05). Besides, the percentage of cases with at least 12 lymph nodes retrieved increased from 80% to 91%. The result of this study pointed out that using the improved fat-clearing technique to process colorectal specimens could increase the lymph node yield effectively, and was effective, practical, and suitable for routine gross examination.

RESUMO

Pulmonary artery intimal sarcoma is a rare disorder arising from the intima of the pulmonary artery. Histopathology reveals that it is a tumour cell of mesenchymal origin. The signs and symptoms include chronic shortness of breath and other features of right ventricular failure, which mimic chronic pulmonary thromboembolism. The definitive diagnosis can rarely be made based on the symptoms and signs alone, and other investigations including echocardiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and positron emission tomography (PET) are often required. The gold standard for diagnosis is tissue biopsy. The mainstay for treatment is surgery, and complete surgical resection with endarterectomy provides survival benefit. According to recent evidences, however, multimodal treatment provides better survival outcomes than monotherapy such as surgery alone. Despite the newer upcoming treatment strategies, patients with pulmonary intimal sarcoma continue to have a poor prognosis. We present a case of pulmonary artery intimal sarcoma and review the literature associated with the disease.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Uveal melanoma is the most common primary intraocular malignancy in adults, but its incidence is low in Asian populations. Spontaneous corneal perforation and intratumoral calcification are rare presentations of choroidal melanoma (CM) , and reports regarding these presentations have been limited. Even after complete surgical treatment, the prognosis of CM patients is usually poor if distant metastasis is present. We here present a case of CM with unique presentations and early distant metastasis to the liver. CASE SUMMARY: A 63-year-old Asian woman presented to our hospital with complaint of pain and brownish discharge from her left eye for 3 d. Imaging studies revealed intratumoral calcification within the left eye with eyeball rupture. Enucleation of the left eye was performed and pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of CM. Systemic surveillance revealed no metastatic diseases. However, the patient was lost to follow-up 3 mo after surgery. At 1.5 years after the operation, she presented to our emergency department with complaint of dull epigastric pain that radiated to the back for 1 d. Imaging studies revealed a large mass at the upper abdomen abutting the pancreatic neck and body as well as several nodular lesions in the liver. Fine needle biopsy was performed and findings confirmed liver and pancreatic metastases. CONCLUSION: This case highlights the importance of continued follow-up of patients with CM.

RESUMO

We simultaneously employed grazing incidence small-angle and wide-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS and GIWAXS) techniques to quantitatively study the structural evolution and kinetic behavior of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) crystallization, [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) aggregation and amorphous P3HT/PCBM domains from a bulk heterojunction (BHJ) to a thermally unstable structure. The independent phase separation regimes on the nanoscale (∼10 nm), mesoscale (∼100 nm) and macroscale (∼µm) are revealed for the first time. Bis-PCBM molecules as inhibitors incorporated into the P3HT/PCBM blend films were adopted as a case study of a control strategy for improving the thermal stability of P3HT/PCBM solar cell. The detailed information on the formation, growth, transformation and mutual interaction between different phases during the hierarchical structural evolution of P3HT/PCBM:xbis-PCBM (x = 8-100%) blend films are presented herein. This systematic study proposes the mechanisms of thermal instability for a polymer/fullerene-based solar cell. We demonstrate a new fundamental concept that the structural evolution and thermal stability of mesoscale amorphous P3HT/PCBM domains during heating are the origin of controlling thermal instability rather than those of nanoscale thermally-stable BHJ structures. It leads to a low-cost and easy-fabrication control strategy for effectively tailoring the hierarchical morphology against thermal instability from molecular to macro scales. The optimum treatment achieving high thermal stability, control of mesoscale domains, can be effectively designed. It is independent of the original BHJ nanostructure design of a polymer/fullerene-based solar cell with high performance. It advances the general knowledge on the thermal instability directly arising from the nanoscale structure.

RESUMO

The near-field images of interferences generated by the reflection or by the interactions of four evanescent fields of two different wavelengths are obtained. The near-field interactions of the evanescent fields are studied.
