RESUMO

Carbon nanotubes/polyaniline (CNTs/PANI) composites have attracted significant attention in thermoelectric (TE) conversion due to their excellent stability and easy synthesis. However, their TE performance is far from practical demands, and few flexible yarns/fibers have been developed for wearable electronics. Herein, we developed flexible CNTs/PANI yarns with outstanding TE properties via facile soaking of CNT yarns in a PANI solution, in which the PANI layer was coated on the CNT surface and served as a bridge to interconnect adjacent CNT filaments. With optimizing PANI concentration, immersing duration, and doping level of PANI, the power factor reached 1294 µW m-1 K-2 with a high electrical conductivity of 3651 S cm-1, which is superior to that of most of the reported CNTs/PANI composites and organic yarns. Combining outstanding TE performance with excellent bending stability, a highly integrated and flexible TE generator was assembled consisting of 40 pairs of interval p-n segments, which generate a high power of 377 nW at a temperature gradient of 10 K along the out-of-plane direction. These results indicate the promising application of CNTs/PANI yarns in wearable energy harvesting.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether quantification of lung GGN shape is useful in predicting pathological categorization of lung adenocarcinoma and guiding the clinic. METHODS: 98 patients with primary lung adenocarcinoma were pathologically confirmed and CT was performed preoperatively, and all lesions were pathologically ≤ 30 mm in size. On CT images, we measured the maximum area of the lesion's cross-section (MA). The longest diameter of the tumor (LD) was marked with points A and B, and the perpendicular diameter (PD) was marked with points C and D, which was the longest diameter perpendicular to AB. and D, which was the longest diameter perpendicular to AB. We took angles A and B as big angle A (BiA) and small angle A (SmA). We measured the MA, LD, and PD, and for analysis we derived the LD/PD ratio and the BiA/SmA ratio. The data were analysed using the chi-square test, t-test, ROC analysis, and binary logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Precursor glandular lesions (PGL) and microinvasive adenocarcinoma (MIA) were distinguished from invasive adenocarcinoma (IAC) by the BiA/SmA ratio and LD, two independent factors (p = 0.007, p = 0.018). Lung adenocarcinoma pathological categorization was indicated by the BiA/SmA ratio of 1.35 and the LD of 11.56 mm with sensitivity of 81.36% and 71.79%, respectively; specificity of 71.79% and 74.36%, respectively; and AUC of 0.8357 (95% CI: 0.7558-0.9157, p < 0.001), 0.8666 (95% CI: 0.7866-0.9465, p < 0.001), respectively. In predicting the pathological categorization of lung adenocarcinoma, the area under the ROC curve of the BiA/SmA ratio combined with LD was 0.9231 (95% CI: 0.8700-0.9762, p < 0.001), with a sensitivity of 81.36% and a specificity of 89.74%. CONCLUSIONS: Quantification of lung GGN morphology by the BiA/SmA ratio combined with LD could be helpful in predicting pathological classification of lung adenocarcinoma.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: POEMS (polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, monoclonal paraproteinemia, and skin changes) syndrome is a rare clinical syndrome characterized by multiple peripheral neuropathies, hepatosplenomegaly, endocrine disorders, monoclonal paraproteinemia, and dermatosis. The main manifestations of POMES were nerve and skin changes, and bone disease was not reported. Here, we report a case of POEMS syndrome with the main manifestation of bone lesions. PATIENT CONCERNS: POMES is rare and its clinical manifestations are complex, making it difficult for patients to find the department they should visit. It is easy to miss diagnosis and misdiagnosis, delay the treatment time of patients, and affect the prognosis. DIAGNOSIS INTERVENTIONS: The patient was admitted to the gastroenterology department due to hepatic insufficiency. Multiple osteogenic changes were found by improved enhanced CT due to screening for causes of hepatic insufficiency, and spleen enlargement was indicated by abdominal ultrasound. Due to the involvement of multiple system problems, and follow-up of medical history, it was found that there was a history of discoloration of the distal limb in cold weather in the past 5 years. All things considered, it may be POMES. Further refinement of the bone marrow examination revealed active proliferation of granulocytes and erythrocytes. Bone marrow biopsy showed active hyperplasia, dominated by granulocytes. IFE showed IgA (type λ) and monoclonal myeloma (M) protein bands. To sum up, POMES diagnosis is considered. OUTCOMES: After the diagnosis is clear and the informed consent of the patient and his family is obtained, prednisone acetate is anti-inflammatory, lenalidomide is used to regulate immune function, liver and stomach protection treatment and bile secretion promotion are given. The patient reported improvement in liver function, significant improvement in overall and limb stiffness, and was discharged with improvement. LESSONS: Although bone lesions are not typically the main manifestation of POEMS syndrome, this diagnosis should be considered when this manifestation is combined with organ enlargement, skin changes, and peripheral neuropathy. In addition, the collection of medical history is crucial, when there is a clinical manifestation and auxiliary examination does not match, the idea should be expanded according to the relevant evidence, and finally make the corresponding diagnosis.

RESUMO

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is one kind of chronic and uncurable diseases that can cause heart failure. Immune microenvironment plays a significant role in PAH. The aim of this study was to assess the role of immune cell infiltration in the pathogenesis of PAH. Differentially expressed genes based on microarray data were enriched in several immune-related pathways. To evaluate the immune cell infiltration, based on the microarray data sets in the GEO database, we used both ssGSEA and the CIBERSORT algorithm. Additionally, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data was used to further explicit the specific role and intercellular communications. Then receiver operating characteristic curves and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator were used to discover and test the potential diagnostic biomarkers for PAH. Both the immune cell infiltration analyses based on the microarray data sets and the cell proportion in scRNA-seq data exhibited a significant downregulation in the infiltration of monocytes in PAH. Then, the intercellular communications showed that the interaction weighs of most immune cells, including monocytes changed between the control and PAH groups, and the ITGAL-ITGB2 and ICAM signaling pathways played critical roles in this process. In addition, ITGAM and ICAM2 displayed good diagnosis values in PAH. This study implicated that the change of monocyte was one of the key immunologic features of PAH. Monocyte-associated ICAM-1 and ITGAL-ITGB2 signaling pathways might be involved in the pathogenesis of PAH.

RESUMO

Objective: The relevant literatures in the field of pulmonary neuroendocrine tumor were analyzed to understand the lineage, hot spots and development trends of research in this tumor. Method: The Web of Science core collection was searched for English-language literature about neuroendocrine tumors of the lung published between 2000 and 2022. CiteSpace software was imported for visualization analysis of countries, institutions, co-cited authors and co-cited journals and sorting of high-frequency keywords, as well as co-cited references and keyword co-occurrence, clustering and bursting display. Results: A total of 594 publications on neuroendocrine tumours of the lung were available, from 2000 to 2022, with an overall upward trend of annual publications in the literature. Authors or institutions from the United States, Italy, Japan and China were more active in this field, but there was little cooperation among the major countries. Co-cited references and keyword co-occurrence and cluster analysis showed that research on diagnostic instruments, pathogenesis, ectopic ACTH signs, staging and prognosis and treatment was a current research hotspot. The keyword bursts suggested that therapeutic approaches might be a key focus of future research into the field for pulmonary neuroendocrine tumors. Conclusion: Over these 20 years, research related to neuroendocrine tumors of the lung has increased in fervour, with research on diagnostic instruments, pathogenesis, ectopic ACTH signs, staging and prognosis, and treatment being the main focus of research. Therapeutic treatments may be the future research trend in this field.

RESUMO

This prospective cohort study aimed to determine the impact of thyroid autoimmunity and total 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration on early pregnancy outcomes in women undergoing in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection who had intact thyroid function. The study included 1,297 women who underwent in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection cycles, although only 588 patients received fresh embryo transfer. The study endpoints were clinical pregnancy, ongoing pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy, and early miscarriage rates. Our study found that the total 25-hydroxyvitamin D serum concentrations (P<0.001) and anti-Mullerian hormone levels (P=0.019) were lower among patients in the TAI group (n=518) than among those in the non-TAI group (n=779). Additionally, the study population in each group was divided into three subgroups according to the total vitamin D status based on clinical practice guidelines (deficient, <20 ng/mL; insufficient, 21-29 ng/mL; and sufficient, ≥30 ng/mL), TAI group: sufficient, n=144; insufficient, n=187; and deficient, n=187; non-TAI group: sufficient, n=329; insufficient, n=318, and deficient, n=133. In the TAI group, the number of good-quality embryos decreased in patients with vitamin D deficiency (P=0.007). Logistic regression analysis indicated that aging prevented women from achieving clinical (P=0.024) and ongoing pregnancy (P=0.026). The current findings suggest that patients with TAI had reduced serum vitamin D concentration. Furthermore, in the TAI group, the number of good-quality embryos decreased in patients with vitamin D deficiency. Finally, aging adversely impacted achieving clinical and ongoing pregnancy.

RESUMO

Organic thermoelectric (TE) materials have been widely investigated due to their good stability, easy synthesis, and high electrical conductivity. Among them, polyaniline/carbon nanotubes (PANI/CNTs) composites have attracted significant attention for pursuing enhanced TE properties to meet the demands of commercial applications. In this review, we summarize recent advances in versatile PANI/CNTs composites in terms of the dispersion methods of CNTs (such as the addition of surfactants, mechanical grinding, and CNT functional group modification methods), fabrication engineering (physical blending and in-situ polymerization), post-treatments (solvent treatments to regulate the doping level and microstructure of PANI), and multi-components composites (incorporation of other components to enhance energy filtering effect and Seebeck coefficient), respectively. Various approaches are comprehensively discussed to illustrate the microstructure modulation and conduction mechanism within PANI/CNTs composites. Furthermore, we briefly give an outlook on the challenges of the PANI/CNTs composites for achieving high performance and hope to pave a way for future development of high-performance PANI/CNTs composites for sustainable energy utilization.

RESUMO

Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) has been proposed as a promising orthopedic implant material, whereas insufficient mechanical strength, unsatisfied biocompatibility and inappropriate degradation rate restrict its further application. In this work, self-reinforced poly (lactic acid)-b-poly(lactide-co-caprolactone) (PLA-b-PLCL) block copolymer with long-chain branches was fabricated through two-stage orientation. Compared with smooth and hydrophobic PLA surface, the surface of PLA-b-PLCL presented micro-phase separated structure with improved hydrophilicity, and cells seeded on it showed improved adhesion/proliferation and high alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity. After the 1st stage orientation at temperature higher than Tg1 (glass transition temperature of PLA phase), the amount of CH3 and CO groups on surface of PLA-b-PLCL increased, while "groove-ridge" structure formed, resulting in enhancement of surface hydrophobicity. After the 2nd stage orientation at Tg1 ~ Tg2 (glass transition temperature of PLCL phase), surface hydrophobicity/amount of CO groups further increased and "groove-ridge" structure became more significant. Due to suitable wettability and enhanced material-cell mechanical interlocking, cell proliferation/ALP activity were improved and a continuous cell layer formed on sample surface. During in vitro degradation in phosphate buffered saline solution, by introduction of PLCL segments, the crystallinity decreased and solution absorption increased, resulting in a rapid deterioration of mechanical properties. After the 1st stage orientation, a dense microfibrillar structure with high crystallinity formed, which hindered diffusion of solution and delay hydrolytic degradation. After the 2nd stage orientation, PLCL segments were arranged more closely, resulting in a further inhibition of degradation, which was helpful for controlling the strength decay rate of PLA as bone fixation materials.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional metal-organic nanosheets (2D MONs) are an emerging class of ultrathin, porous, and crystalline materials. The organic/inorganic hybrid nature offers MONs distinct advantages over other inorganic nanosheets in terms of diversity of organic ligands and metal notes. Compared to bulk three-dimensional metal-organic frameworks, 2D MONs possess merits of high density and readily accessible catalytic sites, reduced diffusion pathways for reactants/products, and fast electron transport. These features endow MONs with enhanced physical/chemical properties and are ideal for heterogeneous catalysis. In this Review, state-of-the-art synthetic methods for the fabrication of 2D MONs were summarized. The advances of 2D MONs-based materials for electrocatalysis and photocatalysis, including hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2 RR), and electro-/photocatalytic organic transformations were systematically discussed. Finally, the challenges and perspectives regarding future design and synthesis of 2D MONs for high-performance electrocatalysis and photocatalysis were provided.

RESUMO

This prospective cohort study aimed to determine the effects of thyroid autoimmunity, serum/follicular fluid vitamin D levels, and vitamin D receptor expression in granulosa cells on laboratory outcomes of in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection. The study included 206 women with or without thyroid autoimmunity undergoing in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection ovarian stimulation cycles. The primary outcomes in thyroid autoimmunity and non-thyroid autoimmunity patients with high or low follicular fluid vitamin D levels (high vitamin D level, ≥20 ng/mL; low vitamin D level, <20 ng/mL) were the number of oocytes retrieved and quality of embryos. The secondary outcomes were the association between serum and follicular fluid vitamin D levels and vitamin D receptor expression in granulosa cells. Our study revealed that thyroid autoimmunity was associated with fewer good-quality embryos but not oocytes (p = 0.010). The vitamin D level in the follicular fluid was significantly correlated with that in the serum (p < 0.001, r > 0.5). The study populations in the thyroid autoimmunity and non-thyroid autoimmunity groups were divided into two subgroups based on high/low serum/follicular fluid vitamin D levels. There was no significant difference in the number of retrieved oocytes and good-quality embryos between the subgroups with high or low vitamin D levels (p > 0.05), and the incidence of thyroid autoimmunity was comparable between the subgroups (p > 0.05). Linear regression analysis indicated that thyroid autoimmunity had a negative effect on the number of healthy embryos (p = 0.038). Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction results indicated that vitamin D receptor expression in granulosa cells was positively correlated with follicular vitamin D levels in the thyroid autoimmunity (p = 0.0002) and non-thyroid autoimmunity (p < 0.0001) groups. The current findings suggest that thyroid autoimmunity may have a more detrimental effect on in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection laboratory outcomes than vitamin D.

RESUMO

Here, we put forward an effective strategy to regulate the interface structure of carbon nanotubes/polyaniline (CNTs/PANI) composite films and improve their thermoelectric (TE) properties by sequential dedoping-redoping treatment. Dedoping induces conductive resistance-undoped PANI to enhance the energy barrier between CNTs and PANI, leading to a greatly increased Seebeck coefficient and deteriorated conductivity. Subsequently, upon the redoping process, the electrical conductivity is dramatically improved owing to the generated conductive PANI chains, while Seebeck coefficient is maintained at 90% of the dedoped composites. This yields a significantly improved power factor of 407 µW m-1 K-2 from the as-prepared composites (234 µW m-1 K-2), which is the highest value among those of all the reported CNTs/PANI composites. The outstanding TE performanceis probably ascribed to the multiple interface structure of the PANI composite generated from incomplete dedoping and redoping processes, contributing to the enhanced carrier-filtering effect to retain a relatively high Seebeck coefficient and efficient charge transport to improve conductivity. Furthermore, the flexible TE device generates a high power of 1.5 µW at ΔT = 50 K, demonstrating the applicability of this composite for energy-harvesting electronic devices.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most prevalent joint disease, and there are still no effective therapeutic agents or clinical methods for the cure of this disease to date. The degradation of cartilage extracellular matrix (ECM) is a major cause of OA. METHOD: IL-1ß was used to induce chondrogenic degradation. Q-PCR and Western blotting were used to detect mRNA and protein level, respectively. ELISA was used to detect the secreted TNF-α and IL-6 level. Immunofluorescence was used to detect the protein level of Aggrecan, Collagen II and ki67. TUNEL and flow cytometry were used to examine cell apoptosis of chondrocytes. ChIP and luciferase assay were used to study molecular gene regulation. Osteoarthritic animal model and Safranin-O staining were used to determine the in vivo OA phenotype. RESULTS: The expression of ADAM8 was up-regulated in osteoarthritic chondrocytes. Knockdown of ADAM8 suppressed the OA phenotype in the in vitro OA cell model. ADAM8 regulated OA progression through the activation of EGFR/ERK/NF-κB signaling pathway. Inhibition of Notch signaling suppressed OA phenotype in the in vitro OA cell model. Notch signaling regulated the gene expression of ADAM8 directly via Hes1. Notch1-ADAM8 positive feedback loop promoted the progression of OA in vivo. CONCLUSION: Notch1-ADAM8 feed-back loop regulates the degradation of chondrogenic extracellular matrix and osteoarthritis progression.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the advantages of minimally invasive surgery-transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion(MIS-TLIF) under Quadrant channel in the treatment of grade I and II degree degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis. METHODS: The clinical data of 100 patients with grade I and II degree degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis treated from March 2014 to March 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, 50 patients were treated with MIS-TLIF, including 19 males and 31 females, aged from 44 to 73 years old with an average of (49.83±15.46) years old; course of disease from 6 months to 7 years with the mean of (22.18±4.74) months; L4 slippage was in 30 cases and L5 slippage was in 20 cases, the slippage vertebral pedicles were intact; according to Meyerding classification, 29 cases of I degree slip and 21 cases of II degree slip. Other 50 patients were treated with open-transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion(OPEN-TLIF), including 23 males and 27 females, aged from 40 to 77 years old with an average of(50.67±14.36) years old; course of disease from 6 months to 10 years with the mean of (20.56±5.37) months; L4 slippage was in 33 cases and L5 slippage was in 17 cases, the slippage vertebral pedicles were intact; according to Meyerding classification, 34 cases of I degree slip and 16 cases of II degree slip. The operation time, length of surgical incision, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage, and serum creatine kinase(CK-MM) levels before surgery and 1 day after surgery were observed. Visual analogue scale(VAS), Japanese Orthopedic Association Score (JOA), and Oswestry dysfunction index (ODI) were compared between the two groups before and after surgery. According to the imaging data, the slip rate, intervertebral space height and slip angle of the two groups before and 12 months (last follow-up) were compared. Intervertebral fusion was evaluated according to lumbar X-ray and CT at 6 and 12 months postoperatively. The clinical effect was evaluated according to the MacNab criteria at 12 months after surgery. RESULTS: All the patients were followed up for 12 months. In MIS-TLIF group, operation time, length of surgical incision, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage were (118.48±21.97) min, (3.74±0.74) cm, (148.78±32.32) ml, (84.85±16.37) ml, respectively, CK-MM level was (72.31±9.79) µ/L before surgery and (415.12±25.89) µ/L at the first day after surgery. In OPEN-TLIF group, operation time, length of surgical incision, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage were (115.40±11.94) min, (8.46±0.69) cm, (219.27±48.33) ml, (157.69±31.61) ml, respectively, CK-MM level was (75.48±10.73) µ/L before surgery and (506.69±37.86) µ/L at the first day after surgery. The intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage volume, length of surgical incision, and CK-MM level on the first postoperative day were lower in MIS-TLIF group than in OPEN-TLIF group(P<0.05), but the operation time and preoperative CK-MM levels were compared between two groups, the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). There were no significant differences in ODI, VAS, and JOA scores before surgery(P>0.05). The ODI, VAS, and JOA scores were significantly improved after surgery(P<0.05), and the scores of MIS-TLIF group were better than those of OPEN-TLIF group(P<0.05). At the last follow-up, the slip rate, slip angle and intervertebral space height were significantly improved in the same group(P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between two groups(P>0.05). There was no significant difference in intervertebral fusion between groups at 6 and 12 months after operation(P>0.05). According to the MacNab standard, 40 cases got excellent results, 7 good, 3 fair in MIS-TLIF group, and 35 cases got excellent results, 10 good, 5 fair in OPEN-TLIF group. One patient had incision exudation and delayed healing in MIS-TLIF group. And in OPEN-TLIF group, 1 patient had local muscle necrosis on the right side of L5 and the bacterial culture of the secretions was negative in the different three times and the right internal fixation device was taken out after the second operation completely debridement, and finally obtained delayed healing. CONCLUSIONS: The MIS-TLIF under Quadrant channel has advantage of minimally invasive trauma, less bleeding, faster function recovery and better effect in surgical treatment of grade I and II degree degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUNDS: Osteoactivin (OA) is a key regulator promoting bone marrow stromal cells osteogenesis progress, while Dexamethasone (Dex) could inhibit OA induced osteogenesis and lead to osteoporosis. miR-26b increased during BMSC osteogenesis but whether it participates in this progress is enigma. Osteogenesis is under regulation of canonical Wnt signaling pathway which could serve as potential target for miR-26b. It bears therapeutic potential if miR-26b could regulate osteogenesis and antagonize Dex induced Osteoporosis (OP). METHODS: BMSC were isolated from bone marrow of rats and induced for osteogenesis by OA administration. We detected miR-26b mRNA level together with osteogenesis related genes or Wnt signal pathway related genes by qRT-PCR. BMSC cells with miR-26b inhibitor or mimics revealed the effect of miR-26b on osteogenesis. The osteogenesis efficiency was detected by Alizarin Red staining and ALP activity. Protein level of canonical Wnt signal pathway and other proteins were detected by Western blot. The interaction between miR-26b and GSK3ß was detected by dual luciferase reporter assay. RESULTS: We found that miR-26b was increased during OA induced BMSC osteogenesis. Inhibiting miR-26b could lead to osteogenesis inhibition while miR-26b mimics could promote this progress. The key regulator of Wnt signal pathway GSK3ß is down-regulated when miR-26b was overexpressed, resulting in ß-catenin activation. Since Dex could promote GSK3ß expression and inhibit Wnt signal, miR-26b could also alleviate Dex induced osteogenesis inhibition. CONCLUSION: Our findings indicate that miR-26b promoted BMSC osteogenesis by directly targeting GSK3ß and activating canonical Wnt signal pathway, suggesting miR-26b might be serve as potential therapeutic candidate of osteoporosis.

RESUMO

Rare-earth ions (RE = La3+, Nd3+, and Er3+) substituted BiFeO3 (BFO) ceramics were synthesized by a conventional solid-state sintering procedure. X-ray diffraction patterns and Raman spectra confirm a rhombohedral R3c symmetry in all samples with significant distortion in FeO6 octahedron, as well as the occurrence of remarkable spin-phonon coupling and notable change in magnetic transition temperature induced by RE dopants. The enhanced magnetization was observed in all RE-doped BFO ceramics, unveiling that the spatial spin structure of BFO should be perturbed by RE dopants. Diffuse reflectance spectra show a conspicuous evolution of interband electronic transitions in RE-doped BFO ceramics. Especially, the two crystal-field d-d band transitions (6A1g→4T1 and 6A1g→4T2g) exhibit a linear red-shift behavior with the reduction in the cell volume, which is well-linked with a linear tendency of increased magnetization. On the basis of these investigations, a possible mechanism was proposed in this paper to demonstrate the correlation between the structural distortion, interband electronic transitions, and magnetic properties in RE-doped BFO ceramics.

Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) hierarchical microstructures were synthesized by using a facile and nontoxic hydrothermal route, which were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Raman spectra, and UV-Vis absorption spectra. The results and analysis show that surfactants used in the hydrothermal process have significant effect on the phase structures, morphologies, and photocatalytic activities of CZTS powders. Especially, the well-crystallized and pure kesterite CZTS hierarchical microstructures were synthesized with the addition of high-concentration tartaric acid (TA) in the hydrothermal process. A nucleation-dissolution-recrystallization mechanism was discussed, and the photocatalytic activities of CZTS hierarchical microstructures for the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) were also evaluated. We argue that the crystalline structure and particle morphology have played key roles on the photocatalytic properties of CZTS crystals. A considerably high photocatalytic efficiency of 51.66% after 4 h irradiation was obtained in pure kesterite CZTS hierarchical microstructures, which suggests that CZTS would be a promising candidate of photocatalyst.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: To verify the interaction mechanism between sericin and Escherichia coli, especially the morphological and structural changes in the bacterial cells, the antimicrobial activity of sericin against E. coli as a model for Gram-negative bacteria was investigated. The antibacterial activity of sericin on E. coli and the interaction mechanism were investigated in this study by analyzing the growth, integrity, and morphology of the bacterial cells following treatment with sericin. The changes in morphology and cellular compositions of bacterial cells treated with sericin were observed by an inverted fluorescence microscope, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Changes in electrical conductivity, total sugar concentration of the broth for the bacteria, and protein expression of the bacteria were determined to investigate the permeability of the cell membrane. A sericin-based hydrogel was prepared for an in vivo study of wound dressing. The results showed that the antibacterial activity of the hydrogel increased with the increase in the concentration of sericin from 10 g/liter to 40 g/liter. The introduction of sericin induces membrane blebbing of E. coli cells caused by antibiotic action on the cell membrane. The cytoplasm shrinkage phenomenon was accompanied by blurring of the membrane wall boundaries. When E. coli cells were treated with sericin, release of intracellular components quickly increased. The electrical conductivity assay indicated that the charged ions are reduced after exposure to sericin so that the integrity of the cell membrane is weakened and metabolism is blocked. In addition, sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis demonstrated that sericin hinders the expression of bacterial protein. Sericin may damage the integrity of the bacterial cell membrane, thereby eventually inhibiting the growth and reproduction of E. coli Compared to sterile gauze, the sericin-based hydrogel promoted fibroblast cell proliferation and accelerated the formation of granulation tissues and neovessels. IMPORTANCE: The specific relationship and interaction mechanism between sericin and E. coli cells were investigated and elucidated. The results show that after 12 h of treatment, sericin molecules induce membrane blebbing of E. coli cells, and the bacteria show decreases in liquidity and permeability of biological membrane, resulting in alterations in the conductivity of the culture medium and the integrity of the outer membrane. The subsequent in vivo results demonstrate that the sericin-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-N,N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide [NIPAm-MBA]) hydrogel accelerated wound healing compared to that with sterile gauze, which is a beneficial result for future applications in clinical medicine and the textile, food, and coating industries.

RESUMO

Soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration with enhanced stable carbon storage has been widely accepted as a very important ecosystem property. Yet, the link between carbon stability and bio-activity for ecosystem functioning with OC accumulation in field soils has not been characterized. We assessed the changes in microbial activity versus carbon stability along a paddy soil chronosequence shifting from salt marsh in East China. We used mean weight diameter, normalized enzyme activity (NEA) and carbon gain from straw amendment for addressing soil aggregation, microbial biochemical activity and potential C sequestration, respectively. In addition, a response ratio was employed to infer the changes in all analyzed parameters with prolonged rice cultivation. While stable carbon pools varied with total SOC accumulation, soil respiration and both bacterial and fungal diversity were relatively constant in the rice soils. Bacterial abundance and NEA were positively but highly correlated to total SOC accumulation, indicating an enhanced bio-activity with carbon stabilization. This could be linked to an enhancement of particulate organic carbon pool due to physical protection with enhanced soil aggregation in the rice soils under long-term rice cultivation. However, the mechanism underpinning these changes should be explored in future studies in rice soils where dynamic redox conditions exist.

RESUMO

A new algorithm called Huber-based iterated divided difference filtering (HIDDF) is derived and applied to cooperative localization of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) supported by a single surface leader. The position states are estimated using acoustic range measurements relative to the leader, in which some disadvantages such as weak observability, large initial error and contaminated measurements with outliers are inherent. By integrating both merits of iterated divided difference filtering (IDDF) and Huber's M-estimation methodology, the new filtering method could not only achieve more accurate estimation and faster convergence contrast to standard divided difference filtering (DDF) in conditions of weak observability and large initial error, but also exhibit robustness with respect to outlier measurements, for which the standard IDDF would exhibit severe degradation in estimation accuracy. The correctness as well as validity of the algorithm is demonstrated through experiment results.

RESUMO

A bacterial strain, designated J6(T), was isolated from activated sludge, collected from a chemical wastewater treatment system in Zhejiang Province of China. The cells stained Gram-negative, were aerobic, pale-yellow, and non-motile short rods. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that the closest relative of this organism was Paracoccus aminophilus KACC 12262(T) = JCM 7686(T) (97.4 % sequence similarity). Strain J6(T) grew at 10-37 °C (optimum 30 °C), at pH 6.0-8.0 (optimum pH 7.0) and with 0-5 % NaCl (optimum 3 %, w/v). The predominant cellular fatty acid found was summed feature 8(C18:1 ω7c and/or C18:1 ω6c; 82.8 %). The major respiratory quinone-detected was Q-10 and the DNA G+C content was 61.9 mol %. The polar lipid profile consisted of phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine and several unknown polar lipids. Strain J6(T) showed low DNA-DNA relatedness values with P. aminophilus KACC 12262(T) (28 ± 3 %). The phylogenetic analysis, DNA-DNA hybridization, whole-cell fatty acid composition as well as biochemical characteristics allowed clear differentiation of the isolate from the other type strains of already described Paracoccus species. It is evident from the genotypic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic analyses that strain J6(T) should be classified as a novel species of the genus Paracoccus, for which the name P. zhejiangensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is J6(T) (KACC 16703(T) = CCTCC AB 2012031(T)).
