RESUMO

Highly selective removal of residual cephalosporin antibiotics from complex systems is crucial for human health and ecological environment protection. Herein, a newly molecularly imprinted polymer adsorbent (CPDs-NH2@MIP) with enhanced selectivity for ceftiofur sodium (CTFS) was developed by using the special carbonized polymer dots (CPDs-NH2) as functional monomer. The CPDs-NH2 has a nano-spherical structure and functionalized groups (CC, -NH2) via the incomplete carbonization polymerization of citric acid, acrylamide and ethylenediamine, which can accurately interact with CTFS by overcoming steric hindrance, resulting in more precisely imprinted sites and reducing non-imprinted regions in MIP. The presented CPDs-NH2@MIP exhibited excellent adsorption capacity for CTFS (68.62 mg g-1), achieving equilibrium within 10 min, and highly selectivity in mixed solution containing five coexisting substances, with an imprinted factor (5.61). Compared with commercial adsorbents and MIPs prepared with traditional chain functional monomers, the CPDs-NH2@MIP showed significant advantage in selective recognition and separation of target. Analysis of microstructure and mechanism proved that usage of the spherical functional monomer generated precise imprinting sites and dense structure in CPDs-NH2@MIP, which effectively enhanced the selectivity in complex system combined with hydrogen bonding interaction. The idea of designing and using spherical functional monomer will promote the practicality of molecularly imprinted polymer adsorbents.

RESUMO

Researchers have increasingly considered approaches to learning (ATL) a key indicator of school readiness. Our study purposed to examine the impacts of parental warmth on children's approaches to learning, and the mediating role of self-efficacy, as well as the moderating role of teacher-child closeness in this relationship. Using a whole-group sampling method, 414 Chinese children aged 5-6 years participated this research together with their parents and teachers. Parents of those children were asked to fill out in person questionnaires on parental warmth, children's approaches to learning, and self-efficacy. Children's teachers completed the questionnaire regarding teacher-child closeness. Results indicated that children with high parental warmth were more likely to get high approaches to learning and their self-efficacy played a partial mediating role in this link. In addition, teacher-child closeness moderated the correlation between parental warmth and children's self-efficacy. Specifically, the association between parental warmth and children's self-efficacy was stronger for children with high teacher-child closeness than those with low teacher-child closeness. The results extend our understanding of how parental warmth affects children's approaches to learning, revealing that strategies that could enhance self-efficacy would be effective in improving children's approaches to learning.

RESUMO

Adenomyosis (AM) is a common gynecological disorder characterized by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma within the uterine myometrium. It is associated with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB), dysmenorrhea, and infertility. Although several mechanisms have been proposed to elucidate AM, the exact cause and development of the condition remain unclear. Recent studies have highlighted the significance of macrophage polarization in the microenvironment, which plays a crucial role in AM initiation and progression. However, a comprehensive review regarding the role and regulatory mechanism of macrophage polarization in AM is currently lacking. Therefore, this review aims to summarize the phenotype and function of macrophage polarization and the phenomenon of the polarization of adenomyosis-associated macrophages (AAMs). It also elaborates on the role and regulatory mechanism of AAM polarization in invasion/migration, fibrosis, angiogenesis, dysmenorrhea, and infertility. Furthermore, this review explores the underlying molecular mechanisms of AAM polarization and suggests future research directions. In conclusion, this review provides a new perspective on understanding the pathogenesis of AM and provides a theoretical foundation for developing targeted drugs through the regulation of AAM polarization.

RESUMO

To address the dilemma of the stiffness and toughness properties of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) composites, titanate coupling agent-treated CaCO3 nanoparticles (nano-CaCO3) and ethylene-octene copolymer (POE) were utilized to blend with HDPE to prepare ternary nanocomposites via a two-sequence-step process. Meanwhile, a one-step process was also studied as a control. The obtained ternary nanocomposites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Advanced Rheometrics Expansion System (ARES), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA), wide-angle X-ray diffraction analysis (WXRD), and mechanical test. The SEM results showed one or two CaCO3 nanoparticles were well-encapsulated by POE and were uniformly dispersed into the HDPE matrix to form a core-shell structure of 100-200 nm in size by the two-step process, while CaCO3 nanoparticles were aggregated in the HDPE matrix by the one-step method. The result of the XRD showed that the nano-CaCO3 particle played a role in promoting crystallization in HDPE nanocomposites. Mechanical tests showed that the synergistic effect of both the POE elastomer and CaCO3 nanoparticles should account for the balanced performance of the ternary composites. In comparison with neat HDPE, the notched impact toughness of the ternary nanocomposites of HDPE/POE/nano-CaCO3 was significantly increased. In addition, the core-shell structure absorbed the fracture impact energy and prevent further propagation of micro-cracks, thus obtaining a higher notched Izod impact strength.

RESUMO

Adding trace calcium peroxide and magnetite into a semi-continuous digester is a new method to effectively improve the anaerobic digestion of food waste. However, the microbial mechanism in this system has not been fully explored. Metaproteomics further revealed that the most active and significantly regulated genus u_p_Chloroflexi had formed a good cooperative relationship with Methanomicrobiales and Methanothrix in the system. u_p_Chloroflexi decomposed more organic compounds into CO2, acetate, amino acids, and other substances by alternating between short aerobic-anaerobic respiration. It perceived and adapted to the surrounding environment by producing biofilm, extracellular enzymes, and accelerating substrate transport, formed a respiratory barrier, and enhanced iron transport capacity by using highly expressed cytochrome C. The methanogens formed reactive oxygen species scavengers and reduced iron transport to prevent oxidative damage. This study provides new insight for improving the efficiency of anaerobic digestion of food waste and identifying key microorganisms and their regulated functional proteins in the calcium peroxide-magnetite digestion system.IMPORTANCEPrevious study has found that the combination of calcium peroxide and magnetite has a good promoting effect on the anaerobic digestion process of food waste. Through multiple omics approaches, information such as microbial population structure and changes in metabolites can be further analyzed. This study can help researchers gain a deeper understanding of the digestion pathway of food waste under the combined action of calcium peroxide and magnetite, further elucidate the impact mechanisms of calcium peroxide and magnetite at the microbial level, and provide theoretical guidance to improve the efficiency and stability of anaerobic digestion of food waste, as well as reduce operational costs. This research contributes to improving energy recovery efficiency, promoting sustainable management and development of food waste, and is of great significance to environmental protection.

RESUMO

The application of soil infiltration systems (SISs) in rural domestic sewage (RDS) is limited due to suboptimal denitrification resulting from factors such as low C/N (<5). This study introduced filler-enhanced SISs and investigated parameter impacts on pollutant removal efficiency and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction. The results showed that Mn sand-pyrite SISs, with hydraulic load ratios of 0.003 m3/m2·h and dry-wet ratios of 3:1, achieved excellent removal efficiency of COD (92.7 %), NH4+-N (95.8 %), and TN (76.4 %). Moreover, N2O and CH4 emission flux were 0.046 and 0.019 mg/m2·d, respectively. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that the relative concentrations of Mn(Ⅱ) in Mn sand and Fe(Ⅲ) and SO42- in pyrite increased after the experiment. High-throughput sequencing indicated that denitrification was mainly performed by Thiobacillus. This study demonstrated that RDS treatment using the enhanced SIS resulted in efficient denitrification and GHG reduction.

RESUMO

Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) synthesized from chain functional monomers are restricted by spatial extension and exhibit relatively poor affinity and selectivity; this results in unsatisfactory applications in complex media. In this study, we prepared unique spherical carbonized polymer dots (CPDs-OH) via the incomplete carbonization of 1-allyl-3-vinylimidazolium bromide and ethylene glycol, and used it as a functional monomer to prepare a newly imprinted polymer (CPDs-OH@MIP) in aqueous media. As a result, the CPDs-OH@MIP exhibited effective recognition of oxytetracycline with an impressive imprinting factor of 6.17, surpassing MIPs prepared with chain functional monomers (1-3). Furthermore, CPDs-OH@MIP exhibited excellent adsorption for oxytetracycline (278.52 mg g-1) and achieved equilibrium in 30 min, with stronger resistance to coexisting cations, anions, and humic acid. Compared to other MIPs and adsorbents, the recognition performance of CPDs-OH@MIP improved 2-4 times; this polymer could remove >92.1% of oxytetracycline in real water samples with at least 10 cycle times. CPDs-OH@MIP prepared using the special spherical monomer forms a denser structure with fewer nonimprinted regions and precisely imprinted sites, remarkably improving the affinity and selectivity of MIPs combined via hydrogen bonds and electrostatic and π-π interactions. Our proposed strategy provides an effective basis for breakthroughs in the practical application of MIPs.

RESUMO

Mercury ion (Hg2+) is a highly toxic and ubiquitous pollutant, whose effective detection has aroused widespread concern. A novel ratiometric fluorescent sensor has been designed to rapidly and efficiently detect Hg2+ based on blue/red carbon dots (CDs) with environmental friendliness. This sensor was well characterized via TEM, FTIR, XPS, UV-vis, and zeta potential analysis and displayed excellent fluorescence properties and stability. The fluorescence of blue CDs at 447 nm was significantly quenched with the addition of Hg2+ resulted from the static quenching, whereas that of red CDs at 650 nm remained invariable. A sensitive method for Hg2+ determination was constructed in the range of 0.05-7.0 nmol mL-1 with optimal conditions, and the detection limit was down to 0.028 nmol mL-1. Meanwhile, compared to other 17 metal ions, the ratiometric fluorescent sensor exhibited high selectivity for Hg2+. Furthermore, satisfied recoveries had also been obtained for measuring trace Hg2+ in practical environmental samples. This developed ratiometric fluorescent sensor provided a reliable, environmental-friendly, rapid, and efficient platform for the detection of Hg2+ in environmental applications.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To investigate the prognosis value of a combined model based on 18F-fluoro-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (18F-FDG PET-CT) baseline and interim parameters in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the PET metabolic parameters and clinical data of 154 DLBCL patients between December 2015 and October 2020. All of these patients underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT scan before treatment and after three or four courses of chemotherapy. The optimal cut-off values for quantitative variables were determined by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The baseline and interim PET/CT parameters, which respectively included maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax0), total metabolic tumor volume (TMTV0), standardized total metabolic tumor volume (STMTV0), and the distance between the two furthest lesions (Dmax) and total tumor lesion glycolysis (TTLG1), SUVmax1, TMTV1, and the rate of change of SUVmax (%ΔSUVmax), and clinical characteristics were analyzed by chi-squared test, Kaplan-Meier survival curve, and Cox regression analysis. RESULTS: Of 154 patients, 35 exhibited disease progression or recurrence. ROC analysis revealed that baseline 18F-FDG PET/CT metabolic parameters, including maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax0), total metabolic tumor volume (TMTV0), standardized total metabolic tumor volume (STMTV0), and the distance between the two furthest lesions (Dmax), along with interim 18F-FDG PET/CT metabolic parameters such as total tumor lesion glycolysis (TTLG1), SUVmax1, TMTV1, and the rate of change of SUVmax (%ΔSUVmax), were predictive of relapse or progression in DLBCL patients (P < 0.05). The chi-squared test showed that TMTV0, STMTV0, Dmax, SUVmax1, TMTV1, TTLG1, %ΔSUVmax, Deauville score, IPI, Ann Arbor stage, and LDH were associated with patient prognosis (P < 0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that Dmax (P = 0.021) and %ΔSUVmax (P = 0.030) were independent predictors of prognosis in DLBCL patients. There were statistically significant differences in PFS among the three groups with high, intermediate, and low risk according to the combination model (P < 0.001). The combination model presented higher predictive efficacy than single indicators. CONCLUSION: The combined model of baseline parameter Dmax and intermediate parameter %ΔSUVmax of 18F-FDG PET/CT improved the predictive efficacy of PFS and contributed to the risk stratification of patients, providing a reference for clinical individualization and precision treatment.

RESUMO

Skeletal muscle atrophy severely impacts one's quality of life. The effects and mechanism of polydatin on skeletal muscle atrophy are unclear. This study investigated the effects and mechanism of polydatin on TNF-α-induced skeletal muscle cells. The skeletal muscle cell atrophy model was established by inducing C2C12 cells with TNF-α. Cell viability, IL-1ß levels and cell apoptosis were assessed. The mRNA and protein expression levels of apoptosis-related proteins were measured. Meanwhile, the binding of polydatin to AKT was analyzed by molecular docking. TNF-α reduced cell fusion and viability while up-regulated IL-1ß level and promoted cell apoptosis. TNF-α activated AKT, NF-κB, and p38 MAPK signaling pathways. Polydatin reversed these effects induced by TNF-α, with a low concentration being more effective. Polydatin was predicted to bind to GLY162, PHE161, GLU198, THR195 and GLU191 sites of AKT protein through van der Waals force and conventional hydrogen bonds. Overexpression of AKT led to increased phosphorylation levels of AKT, p38, and p65 proteins, as well as IL-1ß levels and cell apoptosis. Polydatin inhibited TNF-α-induced apoptosis of C2C12 cells by regulating NF-κB and p38 MAPK signaling pathways through AKT. This suggests that polydatin shows promise as a new drug for the treatment of skeletal muscle atrophy.

RESUMO

In this paper, a novel EEG emotion recognition method based on residual graph attention neural network is proposed. The method constructs a three-dimensional sparse feature matrix according to the relative position of electrode channels, and inputs it into the residual network to extract high-level abstract features containing electrode spatial position information. At the same time, the adjacency matrix representing the connection relationship of electrode channels is constructed, and the time-domain features of multi-channel EEG are modeled using graph. Then, the graph attention neural network is utilized to learn the intrinsic connection relationship between EEG channels located in different brain regions from the adjacency matrix and the constructed graph structure data. Finally, the high-level abstract features extracted from the two networks are fused to judge the emotional state. The experiment is carried out on DEAP data set. The experimental results show that the spatial domain information of electrode channels and the intrinsic connection relationship between different channels contain salient information related to emotional state, and the proposed model can effectively fuse these information to improve the performance of multi-channel EEG emotion recognition.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Growing competition in tight job market and academic excellence as a social norm in Asian culture have made Chinese college students burdened with immense academic stress. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explore the associations between academic stress and depression, and the mediating roles of negative affect and sleep quality, as well as the moderating role of social support in the relationship between negative affect and sleep quality. METHODOLOGY: A convenience sample of 221 male and 479 female college students aged between 17 and 25 completed questionnaires on academic stress, depression, negative affect, sleep quality and social support. RESULTS: Results indicated that academic stress could not only directly affect depression (b = 0.31, p < 001), but also affect depression through the mediation role of negative affect and sleep quality. The chain mediating effects includes three paths, namely, the mediating role of negative affect (indirect effect = 0.21, percentage of total effect = 69.58 %), the mediating role of sleep quality (indirect effect = 0.06, percentage of total effect = 21.03 %), and the chain mediating role of negative affect and sleep quality (indirect effect = 0.06, percentage of total effect = 19.86 %). Social support moderated the adverse influence of negative affect on sleep quality. Social support decreases the impact of negative affect on sleep quality. Specifically, the association between negative affect and sleep quality was stronger for college students with low (bsimple = 0.44, p < 0.001) social support than those with high (bsimple = 0.32, p < 0.001) social support. IMPLICATIONS: The results advanced our understanding of how academic stress affects college students' depression. These findings provide implications on the cultivation of stress coping strategies, promotion of emotion regulation skills, exaltation of sleep quality, and improvement of the social support level aiming for future depression preventions and interventions. Specific measures include setting up psychological health courses, teaching emotion management strategies, and establishing web-based programme steming from acceptance and commitment therapy. It should be noted that the cross-sectional design means the causal associations among the variables could not be determined.

RESUMO

The objective of this study was to develop a nomogram including parameters assessed by 18F-FDG PET/CT and clinical parameters for patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) to predict progression-free survival (PFS). A total of 181 patients with pathologically diagnosed DLBCL at Sichuan Cancer Hospital and Institute from March 2015 to December 2020 were enrolled in this retrospective study. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) was used to calculate the optimal cutoff values of the semiquantitative parameters (SUVmax, TLG, MTV, and Dmax) for PFS. A nomogram was constructed according to multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression. The predictive and discriminatory capacities of the nomogram were then measured using the concordance index (C-index), calibration plots, and Kaplan-Meier curves. The predictive and discriminatory capacities of the nomogram and the International Prognostic Index of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN-IPI) were compared via the C-index and AUC. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that male gender and pretreatment Ann Arbor stage III-IV, non-GCB, elevated lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), number of extranodal organ involvement (Neo)>1, MTV≥152.8 cm3, and Dmax ≥53.9 cm were associated with unfavorable PFS (all p<0.05). The nomogram, including gender, Ann Arbor stage, pathology type, Neo, LDH levels, MTV, and Dmax, showed good prediction accuracy, with a C-index of 0.760 (95% CI: 0.727-0.793), which was higher than that of NCCN-IPI (0.710; 95% CI: 0.669-751). The calibration plots for 2-year demonstrated good consistency between the predicted and observed probabilities for survival time. We established a nomogram including MTV, Dmax, and several clinical parameters to predict the PFS of patients with DLBCL, and the nomogram showed better predictability and higher accuracy than NCCN-IPI.

RESUMO

Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a favorable way to convert organic pollutants, such as food waste (FW), into clean energy through microbial action. This work adopted a side-stream thermophilic anaerobic digestion (STA) strategy to improve a digestive system's efficiency and stability. Results showed that the STA strategy brought higher methane production as well as higher system stability. It quickly adapted to thermal stimulation and increased the specific methane production from 359 mL CH4/g·VS to 439 mL CH4/g·VS, which was also higher than 317 mL CH4/g·VS from single-stage thermophilic anaerobic digestion. Further exploration of the mechanism of STA using metagenomic and metaproteomic analysis revealed enhanced activity of key enzymes. The main metabolic pathway was up-regulated, while the dominant bacteria were concentrated, and the multifunctional Methanosarcina was enriched. These results indicate that STA optimized organic metabolism patterns, comprehensively promoted methane production pathways, and formed various energy conservation mechanisms. Further, the system's limited heating avoided adverse effects from thermal stimulation, and activated enzyme activity and heat shock proteins through circulating slurries, which improved the metabolic process, showing great application potential.

RESUMO

Municipal wastewater treatment often lacks carbon source, while carbon-rich organics in food waste are deficiently utilized. In this study, the food waste fermentation liquid (FWFL) was step-fed into a bench-scale step-feed three-stage anoxic/aerobic system (SFTS-A/O), to investigate its performance in nutrients removal and the response of microbial community as a supplementary carbon source. The results showed that the total nitrogen (TN) removal rate increased by 21.8-109.3% after step-feeding FWFL. However, the biomass of the SFTS-A/O system was increased by 14.6% and 11.9% in the two phases of the experiment, respectively. Proteobacteria was found to be the dominant functional phyla induced by FWFL, and the increase of its abundance attributed to the enrichment of denitrifying bacteria and carbohydrate-metabolizing bacteria was responsible for the biomass increase. Azospira belonged to Proteobacteria phylum was the dominant denitrifying genera when step-fed with FWFL, its abundance was increased from 2.7% in series 1 (S1) to 18.6% in series 2 (S2) and became the keystone species in the microbial networks. Metagenomics analysis revealed that step-feeding FWFL enhanced the abundance of denitrification and carbohydrates-metabolism genes, which were encode mainly by Proteobacteria. This study constitutes a key step towards the application of FWFL as a supplementary carbon source for low C/N municipal wastewater treatment.

RESUMO

The high turnover rate of kindergarten teachers has become a global problem. Job satisfaction is regarded as a contributing factor that can reduce turnover intention. We sought to examine the relationship between work-related use of information and communication technologies after hours (W_ICTs) and kindergarten teachers' job satisfaction, as well as the mediating role of emotional exhaustion and the moderating role of perceived organizational support in the link between W_ICTs and emotional exhaustion. A sample of 434 participants of kindergarten teachers completed questionnaires on W_ICTs, job satisfaction, perceived organizational support and emotional exhaustion. Results indicated that kindergarten teachers' emotional exhaustion played a partial mediating role in the relationship between W_ICTs and job satisfaction. In addition, perceived organizational support moderated the association between W_ICTs and emotional exhaustion. Specifically, W_ICTs had a greater impact on emotional exhaustion for kindergarten teachers with low perceived organizational support.

RESUMO

AIM: To review the literature related to symptom management, clinical significance and related theoretical framework systems in adult patients with brain tumours. BACKGROUND: As understanding of symptoms or symptom clusters and underlying biologic mechanisms has grown, it is apparent that symptom science is moving forward. Although some progress has been made in the symptom science of solid tumours such as breast and lung neoplasms, insufficient attention has been paid to symptom management for patients suffering from brain tumours. Further research is needed to achieve effective symptom management for these patients. DESIGN: A literature review with a systematic search of symptom management in adult brain tumours. METHODS: Electronic data bases were searched to obtain relevant published literature on symptom management in adults with brain tumours. This was then analysed and a synthesis of relevant findings is presented. FINDINGS: Four significant general themes relating to symptom management of brain tumours in adults were identified: (1) The potential theoretical foundation related to symptom management was revealed. (2) Widely accepted validated scales or questionnaires for the assessment of single symptoms or symptom clusters were recommended. (3) Several symptom clusters and the underlying biologic mechanisms have been reported. (4) Specific symptom interventions for adults with brain tumours were collected and classified as evidence-based or insufficient evidence. CONCLUSION: There are still many challenges in the effective management of symptoms in adults with brain tumours. The guiding role of theoretical frameworks or models related to symptom management should be utilized in future research. Using the concept of symptom clustering for research into symptoms found in patients with brain tumours, exploring common biological mechanisms for specific symptom clusters and making full use of modern big data resources to build a strong evidence base for an effective intervention or management program may inform the management of symptoms among these patients leading to better results. NO PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: This is a literature review. IMPLICATIONS FOR SYMPTOM MANAGEMENT: The ultimate goal is obviously not only improving the survival rate of patients with brain tumours, but also enhancing their quality of life. Several important findings from our review include the theoretical foundations, validated assessment tools, the assessment of symptom clusters and the underlying biologic mechanism, and the identification of the evidence base for symptom interventions. These are of relevance for managers, researchers and practitioners and may function as a reference to help the effective symptom management for adults with brain tumours.

RESUMO

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine disrupting chemical and poses a grave threat to the human health. Herein, a fluorescent probe constructed with molecularly imprinted polymers decorated carbon dots (CDs@MIPs) was proposed for determination of BPA with high selectivity. The CDs@MIPs were constructed using BPA, 4-vinylpyridine and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as template, functional monomer and cross linker, respectively. The obtained fluorescent probe not only owned a highly selective recognition function derived from MIPs but also displayed an excellent sensitivity for sensing BPA stemmed from CDs. The fluorescence intensity of CDs@MIPs was varied before and after the removal of BPA templates. The fluorescent decrease fraction of the fluorescent probe demonstrates a nice linearity in BPA concentration range of 10-2000 nM (r2 = 0.9998) and the detection limit is as low as 1.5 nM. The fluorescent probe was triumphantly utilized to sense the level of BPA in real aqueous and plastic samples with good results. Moreover, the fluorescent probe offered a wonderful means for fast identification and sensitive detection of BPA from environmental aqueous samples.
