RESUMO

Conventional integral imaging (InIm) three-dimensional (3D) display has the defect of a small viewing angle and usually presents a single 3D image. In this paper, we propose a viewing-angle-enhanced and dual-view compatible InIm 3D display system. The crosstalk pixel areas within the conventional elemental images (EIs) that result in image crosstalk were effectively utilized either for viewing angle enhancement or for dual-view 3D display. In the viewing-angle-enhanced 3D display mode, a composite elemental image (CEI) that consisted of a normal EI and two view-enhanced EIs was imaged by a dual pinhole array and formed an extended 3D viewing area. A precisely designed mask array was introduced to block the overlapped rays between adjacent viewing areas to eliminate image crosstalk. While in the dual-view 3D display mode, a CEI was composed of image information of two different 3D scenes. With the help of the dual pinhole array and mask array, two different 3D images were reconstructed for the left and right perspectives. Experiments demonstrated that both the left and right sides were increased by 6 degrees from the conventional 3D viewing angle, and also, a dual-view 3D display effect that retains the same viewing angle as the conventional system was achieved. The proposed system has a compact structure and can be freely switched between two display modes.

RESUMO

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a multifactorial chronic inflammation of the intestine and has become a global public health concern. A farnesoid X receptor (FXR) was recently reported to play a key role in hepatic-intestinal circulation, intestinal metabolism, immunity, and microbial regulation, and thus, it becomes a promising therapeutic target for IBD. In this study, we identified a series of nonbile acid FXR agonists, in which 33 novel compounds were designed and synthesized by the structure-based drug design strategy from our previously identified hit compound. Compound 33 exhibited a potent FXR agonistic activity, high intestinal distribution, good anti-inflammatory activity, and the ability to repair the colon epithelium in a DSS-induced acute enteritis model. Based on the results of RNA-seq analysis, we further investigated the therapeutic potential of the combination of compound 33 with 5-ASA. Overall, the results indicated that compound 33 is a promising drug candidate for IBD treatment.

RESUMO

S-nitrosoglutathione reductase (GSNOR) is a well-known regulator in controlling protein S-nitrosylation modification and nitric oxide (NO) homeostasis. Here, a GSNOR inhibitor N6022 and SlGSNOR silencing were applied to investigate the roles of SlGSNOR in tomato fruit postharvest ripening. We found that the application of N6022 and S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO, a NO donor), and SlGSNOR silencing delayed the transition of fruit skin color by improving total chlorophyll level by 88.57%, 44.78%, and 91.03%, respectively. Meanwhile, total carotenoid and lycopene contents were reduced by these treatments. Concurrently, the activity of chlorophyll biosynthesis enzymes and the expression of related genes were upregulated, and the transcript abundances of total carotenoid bioproduction genes were downregulated, by N6022 and GSNO treatments and SlGSNOR silencing. In addition, fruit softening was postponed by N6022, GSNO, and SlGSNOR silencing, through delaying the decrease of firmness and declining cell wall composition; structure-related enzyme activity; and gene expression levels. Furthermore, N6022, GSNO, and SlGSNOR silencing enhanced the accumulation of titratable acid; ascorbic acid; total phenol; and total flavonoid, but repressed the content of soluble sugar and soluble protein accompanied with the expression pattern changes of nutrition-related genes. In addition, the endogenous NO contents were elevated by 197.55%; 404.59%; and 713.46%, and the endogenous SNOs contents were enhanced by 74.65%; 93.49%; and 94.85%; by N6022 and GSNO treatments and SlGSNOR silencing, respectively. Altogether, these results indicate that SlGSNOR positively promotes tomato postharvest fruit ripening, which may be largely on account of its negative roles in the endogenous NO level.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To investigate the change in the distance between corneal apex and pupil center after small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) or implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation and its correlation with surgical-induced astigmatism (SIA). METHODS: This study included patients who had undergone SMILE (n = 112) or ICL implantation (n = 110) to correct myopia and myopic astigmatism. The angle kappa was measured using a Scheimpflug imaging device (Pentacam) and represented as Cartesian values between the pupil center and the corneal vertex (X, Y) and chord u ([Formula: see text]orientation), and was compared pre- and post-operative. RESULTS: Following SMILE, the magnitude of chord u[Formula: see text]) significantly increased in both eyes (Wilcoxon signed-rank test, OD: P<0.001; OS: P=0.007), while no significant change was observed in the orientation. A significant correlation was found between the J0 component of SIA and the change in the magnitude of chord u for both eyes (OD: R2=0.128, P<0.001; OS: R2=0.033, P=0.004). After ICL implantation, the orientation of the chord u was significantly different in the right eye (Wilcoxon signed-rank test, P = 0.008), and the Y-intercept significantly decreased in both eyes (Wilcoxon signed-rank test, P<0.001). A significant correlation was found between J0 of SIA and the change in the magnitude of chord u for the right eyes (R2=0.066, P=0.002). A significant correlation was found between J45 of SIA and the change in the magnitude of chord u for the left eyes (R2=0.037, P=0.044). CONCLUSIONS: The magnitude of the chord u increased following the SMILE procedure, whereas the Y-intercept significantly decreased after ICL implantation. SIA was related to the change in the magnitude of chord u.

RESUMO

Fatty acids and their derivatives play a variety of roles in living organisms. Fatty acids not only store energy but also comprise membrane lipids and act as signaling molecules. There are three main proteins involved in the fatty acid ß-oxidation pathway in plant peroxisomes, including acyl-CoA oxidase (ACX), multifunctional protein (MFP), and 3-ketolipoyl-CoA thiolase (KAT). However, genome-scale analysis of KAT and MFP has not been systemically investigated in tomatoes. Here, we conducted a bioinformatics analysis of KAT and MFP genes in tomatoes. Their physicochemical properties, protein secondary structure, subcellular localization, gene structure, phylogeny, and collinearity were also analyzed. In addition, a conserved motif analysis, an evolutionary pressure selection analysis, a cis-acting element analysis, tissue expression profiling, and a qRT-PCR analysis were conducted within tomato KAT and MFP family members. There are five KAT and four MFP family members in tomatoes, which are randomly distributed on four chromosomes. By analyzing the conserved motifs of tomato KAT and MFP family members, we found that both KAT and MFP members are highly conserved. In addition, the results of the evolutionary pressure selection analysis indicate that the KAT and MFP family members have evolved mainly from purifying selection, which makes them more structurally stable. The results of the cis-acting element analysis show that SlKAT and SlMFP with respect may respond to light, hormones, and adversity stresses. The tissue expression analysis showed that KAT and MFP family members have important roles in regulating the development of floral organs as well as fruit ripening. The qRT-PCR analysis revealed that the expressions of SlKAT and SlMFP genes can be regulated by ABA, MeJA, darkness, NaCl, PEG, UV, cold, heat, and H2O2 treatments. These results provide a basis for the involvement of the SlKAT and SlMFP genes in tomato floral organ development and abiotic stress response, which lay a foundation for future functional study of SlKAT and SlMFP in tomatoes.

RESUMO

The limited exciton lifetime (τ, generally <1 ns) leads to short exciton diffusion length (LD ) of organic semiconductors, which is the bottleneck issue impeding the further improvement of power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) for organic solar cells (OSCs). However, efficient strategies to prolong intrinsic τ are rare and vague. Herein, we propose a facile method to efficiently reduce vibrational frequency of molecular skeleton and suppress exciton-vibration coupling to decrease non-radiative decay rate and thus prolong τ via deuterating nonfullerene acceptors. The τ remarkably increases from 0.90 ns (non-deuterated L8-BO) to 1.35 ns (deuterated L8-BO-D), which is the record for organic photovoltaic materials. Besides, the inhibited molecular vibration improves molecular planarity of L8-BO-D for enhanced exciton diffusion coefficient. Consequently, the LD increases from 7.9 nm (L8-BO) to 10.7 nm (L8-BO-D). The prolonged LD of L8-BO-D enables PM6 : L8-BO-D-based bulk heterojunction OSCs to acquire higher PCEs of 18.5 % with more efficient exciton dissociation and weaker charge carrier recombination than PM6 : L8-BO-based counterparts. Moreover, benefiting from the prolonged LD , D18/L8-BO-D-based pseudo-planar heterojunction OSCs achieve an impressive PCE of 19.3 %, which is among the highest values. This work provides an efficient strategy to increase the τ and thus LD of organic semiconductors, boosting PCEs of OSCs.

RESUMO

Trehalose may improve plant stress tolerance by regulating gene expression under different abiotic stresses. DNA methylation is involved in plant growth and development, but also in response to abiotic stresses. 5-azacytidine is a widely used inhibitor of DNA methylation. In this study, tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L. 'Ailsa Craig') was used as experimental material to explore the effects of trehalose and DNA methylation on the growth and development in tomato seedlings under salt stress. 10 mM trehalose, 50 µM 5-azacytidine, and their combined treatments could significantly increase growth parameters in tomato under salt stress, indicating trehalose and 5-azacytidine might play crucial roles in alleviating salt stress both synergistically and independently. Additionally, trehalose significantly down-regulated the expression of DNA methylase genes (SlDRM5, SlDRM1L1, SlCMT3 and SlCMT2) and up-regulated the expression of DNA demethylases genes under salt stress, suggesting that trehalose might regulate DNA methylation under salt stress condition. Under salt stress, trehalose and 5-azacytidine treatments enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity and induced antioxidant enzyme gene expression in tomato seedlings. Meanwhile, trehalose and 5-azacytidine increased ABA content by regulating the expression of ABA metabolism-related genes, thereby enhancing salt tolerance in tomato. Altogether, these results suggest that trehalose conferred salt tolerance in tomato seedlings probably by DNA demethylation and enhancing antioxidant capability and ABA accumulation.

RESUMO

Removing noxious dyes and detecting excessive metal ions in water are both effective means to prevent damage from contaminants and ensure water safety. The emphasis problems were addressed by preparation a polyacrylamide chitosan (PAAM/CS) hydrogel. Polyacrylamide (PAAM) provides overall mechanical strength to carry loads and facilitate circulation, chitosan (CS) provides adsorption positions with high adsorption capacity. Which made that PAMM/CS hydrogel efficiently performed sorption of xylenol orange (XO). As the functional dye, XO binds to PAAM/CS and confers colorimetric properties on PAAM/CS hydrogels. XO sorbed hydrogel realized fluorescence dual-signal detection of Fe3+ and Al3+ in water. The significant swelling and adsorption potency of the hydrogel, combined with the dual-signal detection capability of XO sorbed hydrogel, make this hydrogel a versatile material for environmental applications.

RESUMO

Purpose: To compare bilateral differences in corneal biomechanics between keratoconus and normal eyes. Methods: In this case-control study, 346 eyes of 173 patients (aged 22.1 ± 6.1 years) with keratoconus (KC group) and 378 eyes of 189 patients (aged 26.7 ± 5.6 years) with ametropia (control group) were enrolled. Corneal tomography and biomechanical properties were examined using Pentacam HR and Corvis ST, respectively. The corneal biomechanical parameters were compared between eyes with forme fruste keratoconus (FFKC) and normal eyes. Bilateral differences in corneal biomechanical parameters were compared between the KC and control groups. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to assess discriminative efficacies. Results: The areas under the ROC curves (AUROCs) of stiffness parameter at the first applanation (SP-A1) and Tomographic and Biomechanical Index (TBI) for identifying FFKC were 0.641 and 0.694, respectively. The bilateral differential values of major corneal biomechanical parameters were significantly increased in the KC group (all p < 0.05), except for the Corvis Biomechanical Index (CBI). The AUROCs of the bilateral differential values of the deformation amplitude ratio at 2 mm (ΔDAR2), Integrated Radius (ΔIR), SP-A1 (ΔSP-A1), and the maximum inverse concave radius (ΔMax ICR) for discriminating keratoconus were 0.889, 0.884, 0.826, and 0.805, respectively. The Logistic Regression Model-1 (comprising of ΔDAR2, ΔIR, and age) and the Logistic Regression Model-2 (comprising of ΔIR, ΔARTh, ΔBAD-D, and age) had AUROCs of 0.922 and 0.998, respectively, for discriminating keratoconus. Conclusion: The bilateral asymmetry of corneal biomechanics was significantly increased in keratoconus compared with normal eyes, which may be helpful for the early detection of keratoconus.

RESUMO

Abscisic acid (ABA) is a plant hormone that plays an important regulatory role in plant growth and stress response. The AREB (ABA-responsive element binding protein)/ABF (ABRE-binding factor) are important ABA-signaling components that participate in abiotic stress response. However, genome-scale analysis of ABF/AREB has not been systemically investigated in tomato. This study was conducted to identify tomato ABF/AREB family members and analyze their response to ABA and abiotic stresses. The results show that a total of 10 ABF/AREB members were identified in tomato, which are randomly distributed on five chromosomes. Domain analysis showed that these members exhibit high protein similarity, especially in the basic leucine zipper (bZIP) domain region. Subcellular localization analysis indicated that all 10 ABF/AREB members are localized in the nucleus. Phylogenetic tree analysis showed that tomato ABF/AREB genes are divided into two groups, and they are similar with the orthologs of other plants. The analysis of cis-acting elements showed that most tomato ABF/AREB genes contain a variety of hormones and stress-related elements. Expression profiles of different tissues indicated that SlABF2 and SlABF10 play an important role in fruit ripening. Finally, qRT-PCR analysis revealed that 10 tomato ABF/AREB genes respond to ABA, with SlABF3 being the most sensitive. SlABF3, SlABF5 and SlABF10 positively respond to salt and cold stresses. SlABF1, SlABF3 and SlABF10 are significantly induced under UV radiation treatment. SlABF3 and SlABF5 are significantly induced in osmotic stress. Overall, this study may provide insight into the role of tomato ABF/AREB homologues in plant response to abiotic stresses, which laid a foundation for future functional study of ABF/AREB in tomato.

RESUMO

Hydrogen gas (H2) is an important molecular messenger in animal and plant cells and is involved in various aspects of plant processes, including root organogenesis induction, stress tolerance and postharvest senescence. This study investigated the effect of H2 fumigation on the quality of Lanzhou lily scales. The results indicated the H2 remarkably declined the color variation and browning degree in Lanzhou lily scales by suppressing the activity of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), peroxidase (POD) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO). Moreover, H2 significantly alleviated the degradation of soluble proteins and soluble sugars in Lanzhou lily scales during postharvest storage, mitigating the decline in nutritional quality. This alleviating effect of H2 might be achieved by increasing the endogenous H2 concentration. Collectively, our data provide new insights into the postharvest quality reduction of Lanzhou lily scales mitigated by H2 fumigation.

RESUMO

There exists a defect of the narrow viewing angle in the conventional integral imaging system. One reason for this is that only partial pixels of each elemental image contribute to the viewing angle and the others cause image flips. In this paper, a wide-viewing-angle integral imaging system with a full-effective-pixels elemental image array (FEP-EIA) was proposed. The correspondence between viewpoints and pixel coordinates within the elemental image array was built up, and effective pixel blocks and pixels leading to flipping images were deduced. Then, a pixel replacement method was proposed to generate the FEP-EIAs, which adapt to different viewing distances. As a result, the viewing angle of the proposed integral imaging system was effectively extended through the replacement of the pixels, which caused the image flips. Experiment results demonstrated that wide viewing angles are available for the proposed integral imaging system regardless of the viewing distances.

RESUMO

Efficient in situ deposition of metallic cocatalyst, like zero-valent platinum (Pt), on organic photovoltaic catalysts (OPCs) is the prerequisite for their high catalytic activities. Here we develop the OPC (Y6CO), by introducing carbonyl in the core, which is available to σ-π coordinate with transition metals, due to the high-energy empty π* orbital of carbonyl. Y6CO exhibits a stronger capability to anchor Pt species and reduce them to metallic state, resulting in more Pt0 deposition, relative to the control OPC without the central σ-π anchor. Single-component and heterojunction nanoparticles (NPs) employing Y6CO show enhanced average hydrogen evolution rates of 230.98 and 323.22 mmol h-1 g[OPC] -1 , respectively, under AM 1.5G, 100 mW cm-2 for 10 h, and heterojunction NPs yield the external quantum efficiencies of ca. 10 % in 500-800 nm. This work demonstrates that σ-π anchoring is one efficient strategy for integrating metallic cocatalyst and OPC for high-performance photocatalysis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Carbon monoxide (CO) has been reported to be participated in adventitious rooting. However, knowledge about the interrelationship between CO and phytohormones during rooting is obscure. The molecular mechanism of CO-induced rooting is currently unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS: The roles of CO in adventitious rooting in Cucumis sativus L. at the transcriptional level were investigated. The results show that 10 µM hematin (a CO donor) has a significant positive effect on adventitious rooting in cucumber. A total of 1792 differentially expressed genes (DEGs; 1103 up-regulated and 689 down-regulated) were identified in hematin treatment by RNA sequencing analysis. There were 37, 18 and 19 DEGs significantly enriched in plant hormone signal transduction, sucrose and starch metabolism, and phenylalanine metabolism, respectively. Both transcriptome and real-time quantitative PCR results showed that the expressions of AUX22D, IAA6, SAUR21, SAUR24, GH3.5, CYCD3-3, TIFY10a, TIFY10A and TIF9 promoted the accumulation of IAA, BR, JA and SA in plant hormone signal transduction. The up-regulation of HK3, TPPF, otsB, TPS7, TPS9 and the down-regulation of AGPS1, AGPS3 increased the content of starch and total sugar by mediating the activity of some critical enzymes, including HK, TPS, TPP and AGP. PER47, PER61, PER24, PER66, PER4 and CCR2 increased the lignin content. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that CO could promote the accumulation of plant hormones, starch, sugar and lignin during adventitious rooting by regulating the expression of some related genes, including AUX22D, IAA6, SAUR21, SAUR24, GH3.5, CYCD3-3, TIFY10a, TIFY10A, TIF9 HK3, otsB, TPS7, TPS9, AGPS1, AGPS3, PER47, PER61, PER24, PER66, PER4, and CCR2. Thus, we provides an interesting candidate gene list for further studies on the molecular mechanisms of adventitious rooting.

RESUMO

In this paper, graphene reinforced aluminum matrix composites are successfully prepared by high-energy ball milling. The results show that no graphene agglomeration is found in the mixed powder. The complex composites prepared by high energy ball milling and powder metallurgy have approximately 4-5 layers of graphene and the thickness of single-layer graphene is approximately 0.334 nm. The final experimental results confirm the formation of compound AlC3 in the microstructure, and its diffraction spot index is ([Formula: see text]00), ([Formula: see text]1[Formula: see text]) and (11[Formula: see text]). The maximum friction coefficient is 0.126, and the average friction coefficient is 0.027, suggesting good wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Additionally, the friction corrosion mechanism of the material is deeply analyzed. The results of strengthening mechanism analysis show that the main strengthening mechanism of the materials designed in this experiment is thermal mismatch strengthening. It can be concluded that the yield strength of the material calculated by the modified model is 227.75 MPa. This value is slightly lower than the calculated value of the general shear lag model (237.68 MPa). However, it is closer to the yield strength value of the actual material (211 MPa).

RESUMO

Serine hydroxymethyltransferase (SHMT) is one of the most important enzyme families in one-carbon metabolic pathway and photorespiration within plant cells. Recently studies reported the active roles of plant SHMTs in defending abiotic stresses. However, genome-scale analysis of SHMT in tomato is currently unknown. In this study, seven SHMT genes were identified in the tomato genome using a genome-wide search approach. In addition, their physicochemical properties, protein secondary structure, subcellular localization, gene structure, conserved motifs, phylogenetic and collinear relationships were analyzed. Our results demonstrated that tomato SHMT members were divided into two group and four subgroups, and they were conserved with the orthologs of other plants. Analysis of cis-acting elements showed that each of the SlSHMT genes contained different kinds of hormones and stress-related cis-acting elements in their promoter regions. Finally, qRT-PCR analysis indicated that SlSHMTs were expressed at different levels in different tissues, and they responded to UV, cold, heat, NaCl, H2O2, ABA and PEG treatments. These results provided definite evidence that SlSHMTs might involve in growth, development and stress responses in tomato, which laid a foundation for future functional studies of SlSHMTs.

RESUMO

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has recently been considered as a crucial gaseous transmitter occupying extensive roles in physiological and biochemical processes throughout the life of plant species. Furthermore, plenty of achievements have been announced regarding H2S working in combination with other signal molecules to mitigate environmental damage, such as nitric oxide (NO), abscisic acid (ABA), calcium ion (Ca2+), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), salicylic acid (SA), ethylene (ETH), jasmonic acid (JA), proline (Pro), and melatonin (MT). This review summarizes the current knowledge within the mechanism of H2S and the above signal compounds in response to abiotic stresses in plants, including maintaining cellular redox homeostasis, exchanging metal ion transport, regulating stomatal aperture, and altering gene expression and enzyme activities. The potential relationship between H2S and other signal transmitters is also proposed and discussed.

RESUMO

Today mitochondria are considered much more than a energy plant in cells. Mitochondrial transplantation therapy has been an active research area for treating mitochondria-associated diseases from animal studies to clinical trials. However, the specific mechanism involved in the anti-tumor activity of healthy mitochondria remain to be characterized. Here we investigate the signal mechanism and gender difference of mitochondrial transplantation therapy against malignant melanoma. In the study, we administrated intact mitochondria extracted from mouse livers respectively to the mice bearing malignantly subcutaneous and metastatic melanoma, and identified the signal mechanism responsible for the mitochondrial treatment through transcriptomic analysis. Meanwhile, the efficiency of female mitochondria and male mitochondria was compared in the cultured melanoma cells and transplanted melanoma in mice. The results suggested that the mitochondria significantly inhibited the tumor cell proliferation in vitro through cell cycle arrest and induction of cell apoptosis. In the melanoma-bearing mice, the mitochondria retard the tumor growth and lung migration, and the transcriptomic analysis indicated that general chromosome silencing was strongly associated with the mitochondria against melanoma after the mitochondrial transplantation on the metastasis melanoma. Moreover, the anti-tumor activity of mitochondria from female animals was more efficient in comparison to the males, and the female mitochondria could probably induce more persuasive mitochondria-nuclear communication than the mitochondria from male mice. The study identifies the anti-tumor mechanism of the mitochondrial transplantation therapy, and provides a novel insight into the effect of mitochondria from different gender.

RESUMO

We propose a dual-view integral imaging display using a polarizer. It consists of a display panel, a polarizer, a microlens array, and two pairs of polarizer glasses. The polarizer comprises the left and right subpolarizers whose polarization directions are orthogonal. Two kinds of elemental images are captured from different three-dimensional scenes and located on the left and right half of the display panel. The lights emitting from two kinds of elemental images are polarized by the left and right subpolarizers. The polarization directions of the two pairs of polarizer glasses used in the left and right viewing zones are the same as those of the right and left subpolarizers, respectively. Two different three-dimensional images are simultaneously viewed in the left and right viewing directions by wearing two pairs of polarizer glasses. A prototype of the proposed dual-view integral imaging display is developed, and the experimental results verify the hypothesis.

RESUMO

Tumor mitochondria alter their functions to reprogram cell metabolism and then allow tumor cells to rapidly proliferate in the hypoxic and acidic microenvironment. However, roles of normal mitochondria played in tumor progression are still unclear. Here we investigate the normal mitochondrial effect on abnormal metabolism of tumors, and to clarify why the mitochondria have to undergo functional changes in the tumor growth. The mitochondria isolated from healthy mouse livers were intravenously injected into melanoma model mice with lung metastasis, then the tumor growth, animal survival and associated metabolic changes were studied. The results reveal that the mitochondria significantly retard tumor growth and increase survival days of animals. The anti-tumor effect of the mitochondria is related to interfering the tumor cell metabolisms, such as reducing glycolysis and producing an oxidative intracellular environment, all of which are not suitable for tumor cell proliferation. In addition, the mitochondria increases cell apoptosis, necrosis, and mitophagy. These effects are more efficient with the mitochondria isolated from young mouse livers than those from aged mice. Our study not only provides a valuable approach to invest mitochondrial function associated with tumor growth but also offer new insight into tumor therapy through interfering the tumor cell metabolism by healthy mitochondria.
