RESUMO

Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia is a rare, benign, vaso-proliferative disease with a dense eosinophilic inflammatory infiltrate seen in the intradermal or subcutaneous region. It is also termed an epitheloid hemangioma, and it mostly affects females rather than males. It is seen as reddish to brown, fleshy, proliferative, papular, or nodular lesion affecting the head and neck region, most commonly the auricular and periauricular regions. The aetiology is unknown, but the most likely causes are trauma, infection, and hyperestrogenic condition like pregnancy or the use of oral contraceptive agents. It usually measures about 2-3 cm in size. It should be differentiated from Kimura disease, which is characterized by chronic inflammation and large subcutaneous nodules in the head and neck region. Here is a rare case report of angiolymphoid hyperplasia in a middle-aged male patient involving the external auditory canal of the left ear.

RESUMO

AIMS: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinicopathological profile of sinonasal masses and to identify features suggestive of neoplastic pathology. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective review of all sinonasal masses in patients attending a tertiary care hospital between April 2019 to Feb 2020 presenting at a tertiary care hospital were analysed. The demographic data, presenting symptoms, radiological and histopathological diagnosis were analysed. RESULTS: In the present study total 23 patients with age ranging from 8 to 72 years were analysed. The overall M:F ratio was 1.55:1. Most of the patients (56%) belong to 31-60 year age group. The main presenting symptoms were nasal obstruction and rhinorrhoea. Epistaxis and extranasal symptoms like facial pain, dental and orbital complaints were found to be higher in neoplastic conditions. The number of non-neoplastic lesions were more than neoplastic with 78.2% being reported to be antrochoanal polyp and ethmoidal polyps, 8.69% being inverted papillomas and 13% cases were histopathologically reported to be malignant. Neoplastic conditions were significantly commoner in males and in the age group 40-60 years. CONCLUSION: We concluded that clinical, radiologic, and histopathological evaluation is essential for proper diagnosis and stress the importance of immunohistochemistry which is the ultimate diagnostic technique in certain neoplastic lesions.

RESUMO

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common peripheral vestibular disorder, accounting for 20% of all vertigo cases. Idiopathic BPPV is most common between the ages of 50 and 70, although the condition is found in all age groups. The importance of early diagnosis and treatment can lead to a much improved quality of life for patients afflicted by this ailment. It is presently common for physicians to treat these patients mainly with benzodiazepines, antihistamines, and anticholinergic medications, especially if the history and physical is consistent with BPPV. This method of treatment has had questionable success. Several reviews of the management of vertigo have shown that no medication in current use has well established curative or prophylactic value or is suitable for long-term treatment. Epleys manoeuvre is also used in the treatment of BPPV. This manoeuvre relocates free floating particles from the affected semi-circular canals back into utricle, thus relieving the symptoms of vertigo. The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of Epleys manoeuvre with conventional drug therapy versus conventional therapy alone in patients who present with vertigo. The purpose of this study to evaluate and examine two methods of treatment.
