RESUMO

This study thoroughly explores the application of Ultraviolet (UV) water treatment technology in urban wastewater treatment and water supply in China, highlighting its crucial role in enhancing water quality safety. UV technology, with its environmentally friendly and low-carbon characteristics, is deemed more in line with the demands of sustainable development compared to traditional chemical disinfection methods. The widespread application of UV technology in urban wastewater treatment in China, particularly in the context of urban sewage treatment, is examined. However, to better promote and apply UV technology, there is a need to deepen the understanding of this technology and its application among a broad base of users and design units. The importance of gaining in-depth knowledge about the performance of UV water treatment equipment, the design calculation basis, and operational considerations, as well as the ongoing development of relevant standards, is underscored to ensure that the equipment used in projects complies with engineering design and production requirements. Furthermore, the positive trend of UV technology in the field of advanced oxidation, indicating a promising trajectory for engineering applications, is pointed out. Regarding the prospects of industrial development, a thorough analysis is conducted in the article, emphasizing the necessity for all stakeholders to collaborate and adopt a multi-level approach to promote the sustainable development and application of UV water treatment technology. This collaborative effort is crucial for providing effective safeguards for China's environment, ecology, and human health.

RESUMO

Background: Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is a prevalent condition in spinal surgery, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture has gained clinical attention as a potential treatment for LDH in recent years. Objective: This study aimed to assess the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture combined with acupoint massage in LDH patients. Methods: We enrolled a total of 135 LDH patients treated at our hospital from May 2021 to February 2023. Among them, 63 patients received acupuncture treatment (control group), while the remaining 72 received acupuncture combined with acupoint massage (observation group). We compared treatment efficacy and the time it took for lumbar stiffness, lower back and leg pain, bending and flexing difficulties, and other symptoms to disappear between the two groups. The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Japanese Orthopedic Association Scoring System (JOA) were used to evaluate patients' pain levels and lumbar vertebral function before and after treatment. Additionally, we assessed patients using the Generic Quality of Life Inventory-74 (GQOL-74) and recorded their treatment satisfaction. Results: The observation group exhibited a slightly higher total effective rate compared to the control group, with a shorter time for the resolution of lumbar stiffness, lower back pain, leg pain, and other symptoms (P < .05). Furthermore, the observation group had lower VAS scores and higher JOA scores (P < .05). They also achieved higher GQOL-74 scores and reported greater treatment satisfaction (P < .05). Conclusions: Acupuncture combined with acupoint massage effectively alleviated clinical symptoms and pain in LDH patients, demonstrating significant clinical utility.

RESUMO

Objectives: The most common subtype of renal cell carcinoma, clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), has a high heterogeneity and aggressive nature. The basement membrane (BM) is known to play a vital role in tumor metastasis. BM-related genes remain untested in ccRCC, however, in terms of their prognostic significance. Methods: BM-related genes were gleaned from the most recent cutting-edge research. The RNA-seq and clinical data of the ccRCC were obtained from TCGA and GEO databases, respectively. The multigene signature was constructed using the univariate Cox regression and the LASSO regression algorithm. Then, clinical features and prognostic signatures were combined to form a nomogram to predict individual survival probabilities. Using functional enrichment analysis and immune-correlation analysis, we investigated potential enrichment pathways and immunological characteristics associated with BM-related-gene signature. Results: In this study, we built a model of 20 BM-related genes and classified them as high-risk or low-risk, with each having its anticipated risk profile. Patients in the high-risk group showed significantly reduced OS compared with patients in the low-risk group in the TCGA cohort, as was confirmed by the testing dataset. Functional analysis showed that the BM-based model was linked to cell-substrate adhesion and tumor-related signaling pathways. Comparative analysis of immune cell infiltration degrees and immune checkpoints reveals a central role for BM-related genes in controlling the interplay between the immune interaction and the tumor microenvironment of ccRCC. Conclusions: We combined clinical characteristics known to predict the prognosis of ccRCC patients to create a gene signature associated with BM. Our findings may also be useful for forecasting how well immunotherapies would work against ccRCC. Targeting BM may be a therapeutic alternative for ccRCC, but the underlying mechanism still needs further exploration.

RESUMO

This century's most serious catastrophe, COVID-19, has been dubbed "the most life-threatening disaster ever". Asthmatic persons are even more prone to COVID-19's complex interplay with the underlying inflammatory condition. In order to protect themselves against COVID-19, asthmatic patients must be very vigilant in their usage of therapeutic techniques and drugs (e.g., bronchodilators, 5-lipoxygenase inhibitors), which may be accessed to deal with mild, moderate, and severe COVID-19 indications. People with asthma may have more severe COVID-19 symptoms, which may lead to a worsening of their condition. Several cytokines were found to be elevated in the bronchial tracts of patients with acute instances of COVID-19, suggesting that this ailment may aggravate asthma episodes by increasing inflammation. The intensity of COVID-19 symptoms is lessened in patients with asthma who have superior levels of T-cells. Several antibiotics, antivirals, antipyretics, and anti-inflammatory drugs have been suggested to suppress COVID-19 symptoms in asthmatic persons. Furthermore, smokers are more likely to have aggravated repercussions in COVID-19 infection. Being hospitalized to critical care due to COVID-19, needing mechanical breathing, and suffering from serious health repercussions, are all possible outcomes for someone who has previously smoked. Smoking damages airways and alveoli, which significantly raises the risk of COVID-19-related health complications. Patients with a previous record of smoking are predisposed to severe COVID-19 disease symptoms that essentially require a combination of bronchodilators, mucolytics, antivirals, and antimuscarinic drugs, to cope with the situation. The present review discusses the care and management of asthmatic and smoker patients in COVID-19 infection.

RESUMO

The Warburg effect is known as the hyperactive glycolysis that provides the energy needed for rapid growth and proliferation in most tumor cells even under the condition of sufficient oxygen. This metabolic pattern can lead to a large accumulation of lactic acid and intracellular acidification, which can affect the growth of tumor cells and lead to cell death. Proton-coupled monocarboxylate transporters (MCTs) belong to the SLC16A gene family, which consists of 14 members. MCT1-4 promotes the passive transport of monocarboxylate (e.g., lactate, pyruvate, and ketone bodies) and proton transport across membranes. MCT1-4-mediated lactate shuttling between glycolytic tumor cells or cancer-associated fibroblasts and oxidative tumor cells plays an important role in the metabolic reprogramming of energy, lipids, and amino acids and maintains the survival of tumor cells. In addition, MCT-mediated lactate signaling can promote tumor angiogenesis, immune suppression and multidrug resistance, migration and metastasis, and ferroptosis resistance and autophagy, which is conducive to the development of tumor cells and avoid death. Although there are certain challenges, the study of targeted drugs against these transporters shows great promise and may form new anticancer treatment options.

RESUMO

Background: Cell division cycle associated 3 (CDCA3) mediates the ubiquitination WEE1 kinase at G2/M phase. However, its contribution to cancer immunity remains uncertain. Methods: We first evaluated the effect of CDCA3 on the prognosis of patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The results of bioinformatics analysis were verified by the tissue microarray, immunofluorescence (IF) staining, CCK-8 assay, colony formation, cell cycle, and Western blot. Results: Bioinformatics analysis predicated CDCA3 was an independent predictor of poor prognosis in RCC and was associated with poor TNM stage and grade. CDCA3 was related to the infiltration of CD8+ T cells and Tregs. Tissue microarray demonstrated that CDCA3 was strongly associated with poor prognosis and positively relevant to CD8+ T infiltration. In vitro experiments showed that exgenomic interference of CDCA3 could attenuate cellular proliferation, arrest cell cycle, and blockade accumulation of CDK4, Bub3, and Cdc20 in mitosis process. Conclusion: CDCA3 presents as a good biomarker candidate to predict the prognosis of RCC patients and potentiates the immune tumor microenvironment (TME) of RCC.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Ileal neobladder fistula is a rare complication after radical cystectomy, with an incidence of approximately 0.7%. At present, there are scattered reports of vesicoileal fistula, but there are no reports of ileal neobladder fistula (INF) caused by bladder stones. In this paper, a case of ileal neobladder fistula caused by chronic stimulation of bladder stones was successfully diagnosed and treated. CASE PRESENTATION: A 68-year-old man who had undergone radical cystectomy and an orthotopic ileal neobladder procedure 10 years prior presented with refractory diarrhoea and oliguria and was diagnosed with ileal neobladder fistula caused by chronic stimulation of bladder stones. We performed fistulectomy, cystotomy, partial ileectomy, and end-to-end ileal anastomosis, and the patient recovered and was discharged after the operation. CONCLUSION: Urinary calculi are delayed complications of orthotopic neobladder construction after total cystectomy. Bladder stones are a rare complication of ileal neovesical fistula, which can cause neovesical cutaneous fistula. It is difficult to diagnose through routine examination and easily misdiagnosed as acute gastroenteritis. Surgery is an effective treatment for INF and can achieve a good prognosis.

RESUMO

In the high-gain photoelectric receiver circuit, the method based on the field-shunting effect is applied to improve the bandwidth of the transimpedance amplifier. This method is implemented by adding a ground trace under the gain resistor, which reduces the parasitic capacitance of the gain resistor and thus increases the bandwidth. To obtain the specific impact of this method on bandwidth, a series of simulations are carried out, including electromagnetic simulations of a three-dimensional structure of circuit gain part and simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE) simulations of the high-gain voltage-current feedback transimpedance amplifier. Finally, the optimal simulation result shows that selecting a 1206 size chip fixed resistor and setting the ground trace width to 1.1 mm can greatly reduce the influence of resistor parasitic effects on the circuit, thereby achieving the best performance of bandwidth extension. Further, the comparative experiment also verifies the effectiveness of the method for bandwidth enhancement.

RESUMO

Purpose: To investigate the expression of miR-125b and vitamin D receptor (VDR) in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and assess the biological function of miR-125b in RCC. Methods: We used quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to detect the expression of nucleic acids and western blotting to analyze the protein abundance in RCC cell lines. MiR-125b mimic and inhibitor were employed to investigate the function and behavior of miR-125b in RCC cell lines. The relationship between miR-125 and VDR was verified using luciferase assays. Results: Overexpression of miR-125b promoted migration and invasion and prevent cell apoptosis in ACHN cells. In contrast, miR-125b deficiency suppressed migration and invasion and induced cell apoptosis in 786-O cells. Luciferase assays indicated the interaction between miR-125b and VDR. In collected samples, miR-125b was significantly higher in RCC tissues and negatively correlated to VDR (r=-0.444, p=0.04). Conclusion: MiR-125b displays an oncogene profile in RCC, patients with high expression of miR-125b should be a more frequent follow-up. MiR-125B may be a potential therapeutic target for RCC.

RESUMO

Convenient and sensitive detection of active analytes in complex matrix is crucial in biological, medical, and environmental analysis. Silica nanochannel array film (SNF) equipped electrochemical sensors have shown excellent anti-fouling performance in direct analysis of complex samples. In this work, we demonstrated an electrochemical sensor with anti-fouling performance for highly sensitive detection of acetaminophen (APAP) based on SNF supported by ß-cyclodextrin-graphene (CDG) nanocomposite modified Au film electrode (AuF). Because of their rich surface hydroxyls and 2D lamellar structure, CDG on AuF can serve as the nanoadhesive for compact binding SNF, which can be grown by electrochemical assisted self-assembly method in a few seconds. Attributable to the electrocatalytic property of graphene and the synergistic enrichment from both CD and SNF nanochannels towards analyte, the SNF/CDG/AuF sensor demonstrates sensitive detection of acetaminophen ranged from 0.2 to 50 µM with an ultralow limit-of-detection of 14 nM. Taking advantage of the anti-fouling ability of SNF, the sensor is able to realize accurate and convenient analysis of APAP in commercially available paracetamol tablets.

RESUMO

This study set out to investigate the effect of massage on the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signalling pathway in the dorsal root ganglia of rats that had undergone spinal nerve ligation (SNL), with the hypothesis that massage could be used as an analgesic. Forty female SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: the control group, sham-operated group, model group, sham massage group, and massage group. There were 8 rats in each group. SNL rat models were established in the model group, sham massage group, and massage group. Rats in the sham-operated group underwent surgery to expose the vertebral nerves, but no further procedures were performed. The control group consisted of intact animals. The rats in the massage group underwent massage using a massage simulation machine once a day for 14 d in succession; the hind limbs of the rats in the sham massage group were gently touched with a cloth bag once a day for 14 continuous days. The rats in the control group, the sham-operated group, and the model group did not receive any intervention and were observed for 14 d. Paw withdrawal thermal latency (PWTL) and paw withdrawal mechanical threshold (PWMT) of rats in each group were detected 1 d before modelling and at 1, 3, 7, and 14 d after modelling. Fourteen days after modelling, the expression levels of TLR4, IRAK1, TRAF6, TNF-α, and IL-6 were detected in all rats. The PWTL and PWMT of SNL rats were decreased, while these parameters were elevated after massage. SNL rats showed higher levels of TLR4, IRAK1, TRAF6, IL-6, and TNF-α, and massage effectively lowered the expression levels of these molecules. Inhibiting activation of the TLR4 signalling pathway, which can reduce the release of inflammatory factors, may be one mechanism by which massage treats neuropathic pain.

RESUMO

Background: Epithelial sodium channels are disputed in renal cell carcinoma, but its functions and effects on clinical outcomes are not well understood. Materials and Methods: IHC and PT-PCR were used to detect ENaCα, ß, γ, AVPR2, AQP2, and MR expression in the primary tumor and peritumoral tissues. GEPIA online tool was used to analyze the relationship between epithelial sodium channels and clinical-pathological characteristics. Tumor IMmune Estimation Resource online tool was used to investigate the immune profile relevant to epithelial sodium channels expression. Results: Quantitative RT-PCR analysis revealed that ENaCα, ß, γ, AQP2, and AVPR2 mRNA were decreased in the RCC, but there was no difference in MR mRNA expression between kidney and RCC (p=0.238). The IHC analyses showed that the intensely positive staining of ENaCα, ß, γ, AVPR2, and AQP in the renal tubular and the attenuated in the RCCs. MR displayed moderate staining in both RCC and normal tissue. With the promotion of staging, the expression of AQP2, AVPR2, and MR reduced gradually and predicted a better prognosis. Although ENaCα, ß, and γ were unable to associate with staging, we still observed a high expression of ENaCß and γ displayed a poorer prognosis of RCC. Conclusions: ENaCs shows an oncogene profile in RCC, drugs targeting epithelial sodium channel should be a possible therapeutic way to treat RCC. AVPR2 and MR exhibit an encouraging immunomodulatory function; patients with low expression of AVPR2 and MR may obtain more benefit from immunotherapy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Dysmenorrhea is one of the most common symptoms in gynecology. It refers to people who experience lower abdominal pain, swelling, backache, or another discomfort before and after menstruation or during menstruation, which seriously affects the quality of life and work. Clinically, there are many methods to treat primary dysmenorrhea, among which acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) are beneficial. This work aimed to test the efficacy of acupuncture and TCM in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea and hope to supply more reliable evidence for clinical treatment. METHODS: We searched articles from the Wanfang database and China National Knowledge Infrastructure and collected the clinical, randomized, or quasi-randomized controlled trials of acupuncture compared with TCM for primary dysmenorrhea. We tested the quality and data of the included studies according to the Cochrane criteria and compiled detailed systematic reviews and meta-analysis. RESULTS: Seven articles (including 492 patients) on acupuncture and TCM for primary dysmenorrhea were included in the systematic review. Seven studies were included in the final analysis, and there was no heterogeneity among the studies (P=0.98, I2=0%). The results showed that the clinical effectiveness of acupuncture was better than TCM (OR: 4.86, 95% CI: 2.84-8.33, Z =5.75, P<0.00001). CONCLUSIONS: The efficacy of acupuncture is superior to TCM in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea.

RESUMO

In the pulsed light time-of-flight (ToF) measurement, the timing point generated in the receiver channel is very important to the measurement accuracy. Therefore, a differential hysteresis timing discrimination method is proposed to generate timing points of the receiver channel. This method is based on utilizing the unbalanced characteristics of the fully differential operational amplifier circuit as well as introducing extra hysteresis levels to achieve the stable generation of timing points. With this method, fewer circuit components are consumed and the dynamic range of the receiver channel is not limited by its linear range. The experiments demonstrate that a receiver channel applying the proposed discrimination reaches better single shot accuracy compared to that using leading-edge timing discrimination. This method is also suitable for the timing walk error compensation by means of pulse width. Finally, these results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method in pulsed light ToF measurement.

RESUMO

An efficient formal [4+2] annulation between 2-benzothiazolimines and allenoates mediated by an amino acid-derived bifunctional phosphonium salt catalyst is developed. This protocol provides a new and facile synthetic approach to create a broad range of isothiourea-based benzothiazolopyrimidine derivatives under mild reaction conditions with high isolated yields and excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities.

RESUMO

In the research on scattering polarimetry, a scattering mechanism is described by an internal degree of freedom called rotation invariant parameter α. Traditionally, α is calculated by the diagonal scattering matrix of the single scatterer. However, when the research object is a scatterer with complicated surface and microstructure, the traditional calculation of parameter α is biased, since the corresponding scattering matrix is a nondiagonal matrix. To address this problem, this paper proposes a scientific model based on Cameron decomposition to raise the accuracy of parameter α in the complicated scatterer. The rotation invariant parameter with higher accuracy is renamed as a nondiagonal rotation invariant angle. In the verified experiments, the experimental values of each nondiagonal rotation invariant angle are compared with the referenced values calculated by optical constant and incident angle. The results demonstrate that fewer residuals are achieved than by the traditional method. Based on the presented calculating model, the scattering mechanism difference interval between two different materials is proposed as a judging area to distinguish the differences between scattering mechanisms in application.

RESUMO

As an important part in the modern warfare, camouflage technology plays a critical role in the battlefield, and the results of detection of camouflage target directly affect the results of war. However, there is little paper to detect camouflage paint by depolarization characteristics, so it is of great significance to use the depolarization technology to study the distinguishment of camouflage paints. To address this issue, we studied the mechanism of the scattering of electromagnetic wave, and analysed the relationship between the characteristics of depolarization and mechanism of scattering. Jones Matrix and Mueller Matrix were used to set up the physical model, and the Mueller-Jones Matrix was decomposed with the characteristics of polarization, then the depolarization coefficients(ωd) of the surfaces of the samples was acquired. In this experiment, we measured soil and three kinds of camouflage yellow paints in seven different incident angles to analyze the characteristics of depolazation of the soil and three kinds of camouflage yellow paints' surfaces. Finally, we applied the theory of Fresnel formulas to verify the theoretical model. The results showed that: the depolarization coefficients of the samples' surfaces were related to the scattering, and with the increase of the incident angles, the depolarization coefficients were decline. But in the whole measurement process, the depolarization coefficients of the soil were far above the camouflage paints'. Research indicated that: this article was the first paper which used the depolarization coefficients as an important parameter to identify the camouflage targets, and could identify the camouflage yellow paints in the soil-background accurately and effectively. The processes of the experiments were simpler, and the time was shorter. In modern battlefield, it could identify the camouflage targets quickly and easily, and furnish the precious time for the victory of the war. Therefore, the depolarization technology had a great application value, and the paper had very important significance on the development of camouflage recognition technology.

RESUMO

The power consumption and latency of existing MAC protocols for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are high in heterogeneous convergecast, where each sensor node generates different amounts of data in one convergecast operation. To solve this problem, we present W-MAC, a workload-aware MAC protocol for heterogeneous convergecast in WSNs. A subtree-based iterative cascading scheduling mechanism and a workload-aware time slice allocation mechanism are proposed to minimize the power consumption of nodes, while offering a low data latency. In addition, an efficient schedule adjustment mechanism is provided for adapting to data traffic variation and network topology change. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed protocol provides a significant energy saving and latency reduction in heterogeneous convergecast, and can effectively support data aggregation to further improve the performance.
